The women at Emerge are amazing! We took Guina's birth class - a must for new moms and dads. She fully prepared us for the unexpected and that enabled me to stay calm when things didn't go as planned. Melanie and her team encapsulated my placenta. I did the smoothie add on and I am so thankful to have had that during recovery. The pills are clearly making a difference in my mood and I do not have the mood swings my friends have had post partum. My milk came in early and has been in abundance - our son gained over 2 pounds in his first 2 weeks! They were spot on with pick up and delivery and even included a chocolate treat. I recently gave birth and was paired with Melissa Colatosti as a labor Doula through my practice, Seebaby. I cannot say enough about how absolutely invaluable she was during my 30 hour labor and delivery process. Melissa was right by my side, my advocate, my cheerleader, my support. Without her, there was a lot of the time that we would have been alone in the hospital room. Instead, Melissa barely took a single break to use the bathroom. She helped us try different things during different points in the process, and she had all the tools on hand. She took just the right amount of initiative and balanced it with making sure she listened to whatever we felt was best. When my labor wasn't progressing and it came to make a difficult decision about how to proceed Melissa made sure that I was informed and felt heard. I would hire her again and again! Colleen our Doula was great. Labor would have been much more difficult without her. We meet her at one of the open houses and selected her, but there were many other great doulas there. We also took her breastfeeding class and meet with her at our home so by the time I went into labor we were very comfortable with her. Colleen was like the conductor of the labor room- she provided suggestions to the nurses to try different positions, coached my husband and even had aromatherapy when I was in final stages of labor to keep me relaxed. I was able to get a doula (Colleen was WONDERFUL) and take private classes with her, and have someone there encapsulate my placenta, complete with vegan capsules. It was aamazing information and well taught from women who are extremely pasionate about what they do as well as educating families on their birthing options. I also contracted one doua for our birth and it was a huge help. I can't say enough good things about Emerge! My husband and I had a WONDERFUL experience at the 16 hour birthing class at Emerge. We were fortunate to be taught by two lovely doulas, Colleen and Pam, with McCalla assisting Pam. As first time parents, we feel so much more informed about the whole process. They covered every topic we could think of, from stages of labor, coping with labor, interventions, parenting, breastfeeding, even baby wearing! I really wish I had the funds to hire one of these ladies as my doula--I can tell they do an incredible job because of their wealth of knowledge and caring, sweet personalities! The class was worth every penny. I didn't think I had the strength for natural birth & was so scared, but the class eased so many of those fears. I had an incredible experience in the Emerge Birthing From Within 16 hour class this month. Guina provided generous support and detailed information for all of the impending parents in the class. The pain management techniques (which I am continuing to practice) were invaluable as a eye opener to what is coming this fall.
