We had been recommended to call Great Lakes Pet Emergencies. So that's what we did. As I was explaining the situation to the woman on the phone, she cut me off and said "well we're still seeing patients from 5:00 pm. we wouldn't have time to treat him". I said "okay I understand, do you have any recommendations for any other hospitals that I could call, because you are the 6th hospital we've tried." She stated "well honestly that just the reality of emergency medicine this close to a holiday so I can't help you" I work in a vet hospital myself. I understand having bad days where you're backed up like no other and everyone is upset with you. I'm not upset they couldn't see us. It was late and they had more than enough going on. However, the lack of empathy and professionalism that was used on this phone call was astounding to me, especially given that I had just explained to her that my cat was actively dying in my arms. I could never imagine addressing a crying pet parent with such a lack of compassion, even on the busiest of days. I certainly hope that they treat the patients who actually do receive care at their hospital with a gentler hand.

Our 17 year old cat Lilly had been diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. She was doing OK…read moreuntil four or five months ago when she started to decline more rapidly. We took her to the vet again who told us that Lilly had a tumor near her bladder. In the last couple weeks she declined even more and was not eating or drinking very much and had vomited bile a couple times. We took her to the vet again who said she was dehydrated and recommended that we bring her to AEC for treatment. When we got to AEC, they developed a treatment plan for IV fluids and the first step was bloodwork. We were hopeful that Lilly would improve with IV fluids and we would be able to take her home. Sadly, the bloodwork showed that IV fluids were not a viable path given Lilly's condition and that there were no other treatment options. We wanted to take her home, but the doctor advised against that because it would prolong Lilly's suffering. At the doctor's recommendation, we made the excruciating decision to put Lilly down. Although this experience was devastating and traumatizing for us, we can't say enough good things about AEC, from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctor. Everyone was so sincerely compassionate and caring and empathetic. Dr. Brink, was outstanding. She gave a detailed explanation of Lilly's condition and the blood test results. We were very impressed by her clinical knowledge and expertise and are very grateful that Lilly was in her care. We appreciated her genuine compassion. About a week after we were there, we received a lovely card signed by each staff member with individual personal notes expressing sympathy for the loss of Lilly. We are so touched by this gesture and have the card displayed on a shelf in our living room with other keepsake items and pictures of Lilly. We strongly recommend AEC if your pet needs care. Even though we lost Lilly, we do take comfort in knowing that we brought her to a place where she was cared for as well as possible in the last hours of her life by such an excellent team.

I got someone who had lost their beloved pet and got into the business because of the charges other charge. I let them know who Oscar's vet was and they told me that they have picked up from them before. The vet office had no problem and since I had to go in after work, they could pick Oscar up quickly. I picked up the ashes but they will deliver them also. You can even drop off your pet. They explained everything and even made extra copies of nose print and paws prints for Oscar's other mom. All for just under $200. Since I just adopted a 17 year old cat, I will probably need their services again. I will use them gladly.

It was our first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised they even offer Sunday appointments. We saw Dr. Garrett, who was incredibly kind, thorough, and genuinely attentive. She reviewed his entire file before meeting us and actually listened to the details we shared about his behavior. We discussed a clear path forward, and he's now scheduled for surgery to have most of his teeth removed. I appreciate that this location has 18 veterinarians, several of whom specialize in dental care, and that they handle everything in-house, including blood work. So far, I'm very happy with the quality of care and professionalism at this veterinary hospital. I'll post a separate review after his surgery.

He was in good health for being 9 years old which is still young for cats and their lifespan. While I was at work, the cat had a medical emergency and I needed to come home to take my cat in immediately. I called my vet and they said they could squeeze him in an hour and a half later, but my baby needed immediate attention. I called Blue Pearl because A) I've had emergency services with them before (at their Southfield location) and B) they could take him immediately. So, off to Blue Pearl I went. Walking in I was greeted by the receptionist who was familiar with me since I had spoken with her on the phone previously. They took Kopi back for an exam and sat me in an exam room while this happened. The vet tech took our information and eventually the doctor came in to give us the grim news. Kopi had an aortic thrombosis and there was no way to save him. Euthanasia was the route we were recommended, and after a TON of crying and questions, we prepared ourselves for the situation. The staff was super professional, considering the circumstances for us. We were escorted to a special room to spend our final moments with Kopi and say our goodbyes. Eventually, they brought him in all wrapped up and ready to go. Here's my only complaint: They said he was going to be sedated with morphine but it did not appear that he was well medicated and clearly in pain. If he was medicated, he was still extremely uncomfortable which made saying goodbye even more difficult. We couldn't really hold him because it hurt him to much. (the condition he passed from is painful for the cat.) I wish they had given him a little more sedation to make it easier for us and comfortable for the cat. We said our goodbyes and the doctor came in to administer the medication. We got a paw print and paid the bill and off we went. I know sometimes things don't go as planned with pets for both the medical professionals and the owners like me, but you have to do what's best for the pet. It hurts my heart to watch them suffer regardless of the circumstances. Will I use Blue Pearl again? absolutely. They have saved the day for me twice now, and even though it's a bit more expensive than my regular vet, they got me in right away and handled the business even when it's not the outcome anybody wants.

The person on the phone heard about the symptoms our cat was having, and expressed to us that they were currently pretty slammed. She said "but you know what if you can get here we'll get him on supportive care right away". We jumped in the car immediately. We arrived and were immediately seen. Every member of the staff treated our boy like their own. They were so gentle, compassionate, and sensitive to the difficulty of the situation. Unfortunately at the end of the evening we had to euthanize our boy. The doctor was direct with us about whether he thought hospitalization would actually give our boy comfort or if it would just be prolonging his pain. And again after making that awful but necessary decision, every staff member was kind, gentle, and sensitive despite also being very busy with other important emergencies. From the very beginning we were comforted and taken care of by these veterinary professionals. It was still one of the hardest moments of our lives, but the staff made it as easy and comfortable as they possibly could have.

Luna came into the vet lethargic, not being able to walk properly and she also had some tooth pain. we told the vet how she was acting and they brought her back and checked her out. we agreed on doing blood work and that took about 4 hours (that's fine) and we got a call when she was almost done to come back so we did. the receptionist kept telling us the doctor knew we were there and a hour and a half later the doctor brought us back and said "sorry, nobody told me you were here" so not sure wtf was going on there. the doctor told us they gave her pain medicine and checked her vitals and that everything looked good and normal and her bloodwork was normal. they gave us gabapentin for her and sent us home and said she will be lethargic but overall she will be fine. so tell me why, monday, april 13th we take her to another vet who looked at Luna for 5 minutes, noticed Lunas back legs were cold and finally said "yup, it most likely is blood clots" and we had to make a decision. spend 10k on treatment just for her to never be the same again or put her down right then and there. all day sunday we could have spent the entire day with Luna and cuddling her. instead she was stuck in a hospital who truly didn't care about her. if you have any concern for your animal please go to the Southside Animal Hospital. they were amazing

My dog had an MRI and has a tumor on his brain stem. There are treatments for a tumor on a dog's…read morebrain, stem, and Michigan state performs those treatments. I called Michigan State because they're supposed to be some of the best. The company that did the MRI prescribed steroids to shrink the tumor telling us it will probably extend his life by about two months without the treatment. There's other places that do it, but it would be about two weeks until the consultation. Michigan State said about two months. Two months when my dog's life expectancy is two months. By then, it will be way too late.
