(Oye vay, our house had needed a lot of work, so we did the inside, and landscaping first.. while the roof waited patiently) This month we FINALLY scheduled to have our - very old, badly maintained, bondoed.. duct taped.. (from WAY back) ..mess of a flat roof ... TOTALLY FIXED! We interviewed 3 companies and went with VANDERHOOF. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we have made since moving to the area. Vanderhoof came in with a swat team of capable roofers, and worked like a band of Army Engineers. They tore off DECADES of badly done roof work, layer after layer after layer. (What a mess of construction debris!) At the end of every work day, they left our yard immaculate. Then they built, and built, and restructured, and redesigned. (Flat roofs need expert attention). The work took a bit longer than they estimated due to the amazing number of layers to be removed, and their painstaking rebuilding process - but the Syracuse weather cooperated *(!!) and the work finished yesterday and it looks fantastic! (Photo shows NEW SPECTACULAR FLAT ROOF! Later I'll dig out the original roof.. it looked like a moonscape of bulbous waves and misguided historic attempts to mesh a labyrinth of disconnected ill selected materials. He never told me the downside of doing this. He had several roof panels off for two days. Lots of dirt, leaf litter and rain got into the attic. Would've been a good time to tell me we had insufficient insulation for the added ventilation. Also would've been easy for him to install the insulation with the panels off. But did he tell me? No. Our heating gas consumption DOUBLED, and of course he denied the ridge vent had anything to do with it. I never found an insulation contractor in the area. I thought about doing the job myself, but I can't squeeze through the tiny attic access port, and it's too dangerous for me, as there's no floor and I have balance issues. I'm running the heat 10 degrees below what we used to set, freezing my butt off, and still paying much higher bills. I called Goddard a couple times to address water spots that developed in a couple rooms. He wasn't nice about it. He claimed they were old spots and got angry with me. Both gutters stopped working properly. Water is falling on the front and back porches. Today I discovered one reason. He installed the drip edge tight to the fascia. The water curls around and onto the wood. It has rotted. He should know this would cause damage. I'm going to have to get someone to take off the gutters, replace the wood and then reinstall the old or new gutters. Maybe I'm judging him to harshly, but it seems to me that his job is not just to put on roofs, but also to keep his customer's homes comfortable and in good repair.

I told them I was not involved in their marketing and there was a pregnant pause as though I owed them an answer. It all went down hill from there. All proper questions were geared towards their company and not me the consumer. I found no interest in my needs. Finally, I was asked if I had other estimates...as a savvy shopper I said yes...at that point I was told we were not a fit. I see others had the same issue . I said I was not interested in doing business with them and she said in a huff that was fine as they were busy. Since when for an investment of that price a consumer should not procure many estimates and look at the warranties other companies provide? Business is business and I do not favour the way the initial phone call transpired.
