Over the past 10 years, Dr. Tammy Chang has done more for me than I could ever fully express in words. Even with so many patients, she always takes the time to truly see each individual and treat them with genuine care and compassion. There were times in my life when I was going through very difficult periods. During those moments, visiting her clinic was never just a routine appointment. Her words and the way she treated me were never superficial--they were sincere and heartfelt. Every time I left, I felt encouraged, thinking, "I'll do my best until the next time I come back." She gave me hope exactly when I needed it most. Not only did my smile become more beautiful, but I also remember how my emotional well-being gradually improved throughout the orthodontic process, almost as if my mind was being aligned along with my teeth. Some people might feel that sharing something like this is too much. But I truly felt that her kindness came from a genuine place. After my recent visit, I felt a strong desire to do something for her, so I asked if I could write this review. I can't express enough the gratitude I have for the doctor and staff. We were there on vacation and my daughter had an issue with her wire. I called them and they took us right away. Guided us the entire way, and once we got there they were extremely friendly, patient with my daughter and went above and beyond to make sure she felt comfortable and did not experience anything uncomfortable during her vacation stay. They are definitely the best ortho clinic I have ever been to. Facilities are extremely clean, modern, and the staff it's what makes it a great experience. Dr. Tammy Chang-Motooka, DDS, MS / Hawaii Orthodontist I wanted to give an honest review of Dr. Tammy Chang-Motooka DDS - Hawaii Orthodontist offices. First of all after an initial consultation and receiving pricing, they were open to further negotiation on the final price. I want to emphasise that no other Orthodontist office ( I visited 4 other places, top reviewed offices before making my final decision) gave me this consideration. Secondly the staff was very kind and had the Aloha Spirit in a genuine way. Thirdly after receiving my invisalign trays they were always helpful if I had any issues or questions. They gave me a goodie bag of a power toothbrush, retainer container, mouth wash, packets to clean my retainers and rubber bands. My visits to the office to check on progress were always positive and they always gave me support and were excited for my transformation. The office is next to a restroom which is convenient and inside the office itself is very clean, bright and they have an amazing sweeping view of Ala Moana Beach Park which is very beautiful. The parking is easy since you just use Ala Moana Center parking which is covered and there are always spots available. My conclusion upon completing my invisalign trays was an absolute success. It was painless and actually a fun process. We were referred to this practice by my daughter's pediatric dentist. Unfortunately for her, her teeth did not grow in straight!She was very excited to get braces. My daughter was scheduled with Dr. Kawamoto who is Dr. Chang's colleague. They took the time to explain everything to us including the payment plan. Just recently my daughter was accidentally hit in PE class in her mouth. Her mouth was bleeding and there was concern about her braces as well as her teeth and mandible. She was taken to student health and they recommended that I take her to see her orthodontist right away. I called the office and they graciously were able to get her in within an hour! We were on vacation in Honolulu when my son had an emergency with his braces on Christmas morning. We weren't sure what to do since everything was closed for the next two days, so I left a voicemail at Hawaii Orthodontist hoping to get a call back the next day. To our surprise, we received a call within minutes from Dr. Chang-Motooka who walked us through some temporary relief procedures over the phone and even saw us in person just an hour later to fix the problem and wouldn't accept any payments. My son was very grateful with being able to function normally again. Dr. Chang was truly professional, friendly, and made us feel welcome despite taking her time away from her family on Christmas morning. My 3 kids and I have all came to Tammy's for our braces. Top notch service, well organized, and great and friendly staff! Located on the 5th floor of the Ala Moana Bldg. As you enter the office, straight ahead there is a computer that you or your kids sign into. You are put on a waiting list and you have a seat until you are called in. The office is normally pretty packed too, no matter week day or weekend. Filled with both parents and their kids, or family members as well. Tammy's office has a full staff filled with office coordinators and orthodontic assistants. The staff always smile and is always very friendly and welcoming! Every time I have gone in to work on my braces, it's been pretty fast! Most times an orthodontic assistant will work on you and then either Dr. Tammy Motooka-Chang or Dr Shelliann Kawamoto will the final check. My son is the last of the children to see them for braces and looks like he is on schedule and his teeth is looking pretty straight. They take photos and rate how well you are taking care of your teeth with the braces on and send that home with you or your kids. If needed the parent will be called in to go over a short review of what the orthodontic assistant has done or worked on for you child(ren). After done, you can make the next appointment with their receptionist. I would highly recommend those of you look for braces for yourself or your kids to go see Tammy and Shelliann. Dr. Tammy Chang-Motooka is, again, one of the most positive people you could ever want to meet. I came in to have a over bite problem corrected and she is gonna give me a Tom Brady (check out the choppers on that guy!) won't help my looks much, but hey, can't hurt! I used to just detest positive people! But then... I married one! Even then, she could kill me! After time, it has rubbed off, now all is 'Sun shine and lollipops, rainbows and everything!' They literally ALL welcome you collectively and make you feel really comfortable for maybe doing a procedure that is slightly uncomfortable. I'm so glad I found Dr. Tammy, she's professional and really sweet. I just want to thank the whole staff for excellent service, and look forward to returning in a week to pick up my new and improved retainer. I am in Honolulu for work and had a braces emergency (bottom wire shifted out of place and was poking me bad!) and my orthodontist is in Sacramento. I called Dr. Chang-Motooka's office on Friday morning (next morning after it happened and I was in pain), and the super friendly receptionist says come on in at 1:45. I was so floored, but also worried that it was going to cost an arm and a leg. I went in and the lovely tech straightened BOTH my top and bottom wire, fixed the poking issue, and placed some wire stoppers in so that it wouldn't happen again. She was also ready to change my bands so I could be flossy flossy. They really went above and beyond. It also cost me 25.00 bucks. Can't beat that. Highly recommend! Also, saw a nice mixture of kids and adults with orthodontia, which I liked. Being an adult the braces can be awkward! :) read more

AWESOME! I had started out with Invisalign even though Dr. Tammy did advise that in my case regular braces might be more effective, she wanted me to feel comfortable with my treatment. After a year and a half I humbly realized it would be a better idea to go with the braces. She was VERY understanding and within a year my treatment was done and I had straight teeth!! Dr Tammy Chang is one of the best orthodontists in Hawaii. Shes very positive and informs you of everything you need to know. It has been difficult to get appointments from the beginning since the staff shuffles between office locations and are usually pretty booked on both sides. However, since our very first consultation, which was during COVID-19 and went well with very friendly and informative staff, it has been downhill. From rushed office visits (parents told to stay in the car an not given any report or clear instructions on the visit, only to book the next appt.) to condescending and rude office personnel (on the phone and behind the desk), we are disappointed with this office that was recommended by a dentist. It feels like, once they received our "business," that was it... we were locked in, and there was no more need to offer quality service. read more

I decided to write this review as my daughter is in the final stage ready to reveal her perfectly alighted beautiful teeth! When I was looking for an orthodontist for my teenage daughter, my friend recommended Dr. Chang-Motooka, and I'm so glad I took her advise! I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since we walked into her very lively and friendly office. Her staff was all super friendly and working so proudly as if they owned the business. The happy staff is a reflection of Dr. Chang-Motooka's very sincere personality. I know my daughter's case was pretty severe with overlapping teeth on 2 sides so I was little skeptical, but she took her time in explaining the procedure and made sure all my questions were answered. Her computerized visual aids helped me understand the process, and I'm so pleased with how everything went as expected. More importantly, I'm so grateful for the no-interest payment plan which made it possible for a single Mom to afford. I absolutely LOVE Hawaii Orthodontist!! Everyone is so sweet and welcoming. I've had some really bad experiences with previous dentist so coming to see another dentist had me anxious. All my anxiety went away when Vena walked into the room. She had the biggest Aloha smile which made me smile. I have really bad TMJ pain and was referred to see a specialist for my issue. Vena listened and she was so attentive to what I was telling her and it showed that she really cared about my issue. When Dr. Shelliann Kawamoto came in to examine me, she was very sweet and also very attentive to my issue. She explained options and put me at ease knowing there were solutions to help my TMJ pain. Vena took molds of my teeth and explained to me about the process and when I should expect my retainers to be done. I then was escorted to the front desk where the receptionist throughly explained financial information with me and the options I had. She answered all my questions and was very sweet as well.
