There are plenty of places to grab a sweet treat in Lake Placid but there's a reason Emma's constantly has a line. I have never seen a menu quite like Emma's anywhere. They got three of the four correct and completely substituted everything from the fourth out. I ordered a coffee-based milkshake with Heath bar in it. I received neither a coffee-based milkshake nor Heath bar in the shake. Our best guess is it was some premade ice cream flavor that they thought was similar and just substituted in. And me with two young children in line didn't realize that they subbed everything out of what I originally ordered. It was for my wife who wasn't there and it didn't get tried until a ten-minute walk back. We poured it down the drain. It was so disgusting. I had an ice cream in a cone and when it started to melt I needed a cup to support it, so I asked for one and the lady gave me a hotdog plate thing the bowl they put hotdogs in. And it was rusty and gross so I told her I wanted a cup, like a real one. She yelled at me and said "Well you got to pay for one if you REALLY want a cup, kid. Fantastic ice cream place. We had the soft serve maple and two of the hard ice creams. Each one was top notch. They have about 16 flavors of hard ice cream and a handful of soft serve flavors. Absolutely love this place and wish we had maple Crème soft serve near us. Such a fantastic flavor. It's not overwhelming sweet. Service moves fast. It's a small cozy spot with a few seats. We came twice during our trip for the maple crème soft serve with maple syrup drizzle on top and other toppings. Their soft serve is gluten free too and they give decent portions . My mom doesn't do dairy during lent and unfortunately they had nothing dairy free that she could have a sonic you are vegan there are no choices. Truly a disappointing experience, which is unfortunate for a highly rated shop. I was extremely excited to visit upon hearing that they served bubble tea. I understand that this place focuses on ice cream, but I expected the bubble tea to be somewhat decent considering how highly it is rated. I ordered the chai tea flavor in addition to brown sugar boba, which is a standard order that I have had before. However, upon getting it handed to me, I could already tell something was wrong. The first thing I noticed is that there was barely any boba pearls. I approximated 6-8 individual pearls in there, and I had to double take to see that they even put any in there. From the start, I was let down. Then, I go to try it, and it was nothing like a chai tea. It tasted like they put a bucket of cinnamon in it, which made it unsettling. But then, I try one of the few boba pearls, and it could not be any further from an actual boba pearl. It had the texture of gel, almost crumbly in texture, far from the chewy and soft texture of a real boba. This texture was so offputting that I had to throw out the drink after 2 sips, which was really unfortunate after paying like 8 bucks. Now, don't get me wrong, everything else was fine. Can't blame them for it being crowded, and actually the service was great and everyone seemed nice. Moral of the story is, stay away from the bubble tea here, or maybe get a fruit flavored one instead. Perhaps get ice cream, because the bubble tea was subpar. read more

We visited 3 times in the course of 2 days because the ice cream and even maple bacon was so good. Customers usually line up outside from what we've heard, but we got there around 3pm and were serviced almost immediately. The back wall is completely covered with their extensive menu; certainly impressive but definitely induced some choice fatigue for all of us! I settled for the Arctic Joe coffee for my late afternoon caffeine boost and sweet-tooth satiation. If you're going to get anything with ice cream in it, definitely go for their maple one - lives up to the hype! I found my Arctic Joe mind blowing. At the bottom of our Maple Monkey sundae were chunks of the most stale cinnamon monkey bread you'll ever encounter. The cannolis won't compete with those we get in other parts of New York. We had been eyeing this store for three days but the lines were always too long. Finally, on the third day we found only a couple of people outside on the street and made a dash for it. Got Maple walnut sundae and Caramel bourbon milkshake. Both were really good! Soft serve ice cream with the combination of sweet syrup and walnut goodness was just what we needed after a long bike ride. To recreate this goodness at home, I got their maple syrup too which was extremely delicious. I highly recommend checking out this place if you are in the area. Also, be warned of long lines cos this is the only ice cream store currently in operation in the Lake Placid main street area. read more

Big menu, lots of flavors and misc dessert options. They do a good job with keeping a limited amount of people inside the store. I was intimidated by the Oreo Crazy Shake but decided to go for it anyway. It was HUGE and makes for a great photo op. The milkshake itself was delicious but the rest of it (the oreo ice cream and sprinkles) was a bit over the top and too sweet. If you're looking for judging jealous eyes on the street, this is the item to get. impressive and definitely worth it if you have a big sweet tooth! the husband got the "local favorite", the Murphy's Maple Walnut (maple creme soft serve topped with pure maple syrup and wet walnuts.) which was also too sweet for me and a bit of a maple syrup overload. overall, both items were too sweet for me but maybe it's worth it to just go with the basics and get a scoop of ice cream without all the toppings. will try again if I ever visit lake placid again! read more

Stopped by on a Friday evening after dinner and the line was super long! Waited about 30 minutes before reaching the counter to place our order and then another 10 minutes before receiving our order but it was totally worth it! I got one scoop of the Cold Brew Coffee Caramocha on a waffle cone and looked like it was 2 huge scoops. Tasted amazing! Our friend ordered sno cone and it could be finished by 2 people! There are also other desserts available such as milkshakes, smoothies, cakes, cheesecakes, dole whip, etc. Just a heads up, the inside of the creamery was narrow and was scorching hot due to the refrigerator's compressor. Emma's Creamery is a hotspot in Lake Placid. As my friends and I were waiting to figure out what was for lunch, my fiancé and I decided to head over to Emma's to get boba. It was a hot summer day and the line was long. We were both thirsty and were craving boba so we decided to wait it out. I love the clever ice cream flavor names too! I opted for a scoop of Cold Brew Coffee Caramocha and a scoop of Graham Central Station in a Fruity Pebbles cone. The scoops are huuuge. Took me FOREVER to eat it, but I savored every bite! My boyfriend got a green tea bubble tea and enjoyed it. They have such a large variety of items on their menu that I feel bad reviewing, since we only tried two flavors. Keep that in mind when reading this review. Choco Chip Cookie Dough: This was extremely underwhelming. The ice cream itself was not very good. On top of that, the cookie dough was hard as well. Really not much to taste at all in this one. Dark Chocolate: This one was significantly better. It had mini-peanut butter cups inside, which is an awesome bonus. The ice cream itself was also rich. Not mindblowing, but I'd say it's slightly above average. Waffle Cone: Nothing extraordinary here. Tasted pretty normal. Would I come back? Probably! I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. However, given the taste of their cookie dough ice cream, I find it hard to round up to a 4 at the moment. Prices are reasonable for most items, expensive for some. read more

The most concise way I can describe an experience visiting Emma's on a busy summer evening is "decision overload in the most glorious way." With a queue wrapping around to the back of this tiny shop, out the door, and down the sidewalk, you'd think you'd be afforded plenty of opportunity to mull over your options and make an informed decision about which frozen confection to purchase; well, you'd be wrong. What I originally anticipated to be an ice creamery ended up being much much more. Emma's offers everything from Dole Whips to ice cream sandwiches to frozen cakes to elaborate milkshake monstrosities. And even that lengthy list of sweet treats is just scratching the surface. Then, you have your choice of various waffle cones or waffle cone bowls dipped in myriad combinations of crusts. The shelves opposite the serving counter are adorned with novelty mugs, fridge magnets, and candies to satisfy even the most aggressive sweet tooth. The shop is staffed to the gills -- I observed two cashiers and at least three or four other workers preparing orders. Even so, we waited at least twenty minutes just to order, then another five or ten minutes to pick up our desserts. It really is just that slammed. While I was very pleased with my caramocha coffee ice cream, I would have loved to sample some of the other options before making a decision. The frenetic pace of business precluded any sort of conversation, let alone a request for a taste. I'd lump this joint solidly into the bucket of Mirror Lake luxury destinations. Just keep reminding yourself that you're on vacation, buckle in for a wait, and anticipate a frosty reprieve on the other end of the journey. You'll be all right. read more
