Im visiting from AZ and stating with my Sister un Homewood. Her coffee wasn't giving me what I needed so after dropping her off at work I searched for best coffee in Homewood and chose this place. Amazing coffee, scrumptious smelling empanadas and tasty looking treats. I wasn't hungry (have eaten too much while here) and didn't grab anything but coffee. We ordered four different empanadas. I was really excited to try this place because it's rated really well, but our food was not good. We placed an order for pickup and within a few minutes our order said it was ready. I knew right away, these were not going to be fresh. Not to mention the guy working wasn't very friendly at all. The bacon and cheese empanada was absolutely disgusting. I don't even know what kind of eggs those were, but we hated it. It had a strange taste and something was off about it. The vegan Al Pastor wasn't bad for vegan. I could taste soy "meat" a little. It was ok. The chicken and Buffalo chicken was ok. All 4 seemed not fresh and almost reheated. Disappointing and would not return. I felt like we wasted $20. I think the only thing that was really delicious was the chimichurri sauce. I did really like that. read more

Also, the coffee was so good, not your usual store brand but imported. Service was quick and nice wait staff. All I can say is give this place a try folks if you're local to the area. Great food and restaurant. Ordered the salsa, Onion, Broccoli, Mushroom, and Chicken. None of them were stale. I know they have to make them ahead of time, but when we got there it seemed like they were made ahead a reasonable amount of time. We came back a second time. Lovely little place in downtown Homewood. Decided to go with a friend after working at the library. I ordered two empanadas and the woman working suggested I get the lunch combo (2 empanadas + a sauce + a drink) despite it being 3:30pm (not sure when they consider "lunch"). The chimichurri sauce was very yummy. So were the empanadas (chicken and 4 cheese). The amazing woman working also offered us extra cheese empanadas which was greatly appreciated! It's nice to have something like this in the area. The service was excellent. At the time of this review I unfortunately have forgotten the young man's name but he was very welcoming and informative. He walked us through the different options and even showed us how they were labeled in the box so we knew whose was whose. I really wanted the dessert empanadas but the case was empty at the time we came. We had corn, chicken, Turkey pot pie and vegan spinach and mushroom. They were all hot and fresh. The spinach was wayyyyy to overpowering in the spinach and mushroom so I ended up tossing that one away but they rest were all very tasty. I didn't try the dipping sauce it came with. Note: he mentioned it was one sauce per order and each extra was $.50 no matter how many people were sharing. As a speciality shop in Homewood I understand why these empanadas are $3+/each and to have them nice and fresh was nice but I do think they're a little pricey for the small size. Tried spinach, beef, pork, sausage, and apple empanadas. Liked the beef and pork best. Sausage and cheese tasted like pizza. Also got mango gelato and other flavors at our table. Gave us generous portions of each flavor. Small restaurant with two tables and chairs inside, as well as a taller bench along the wall. Wheelchair accessible. I wish they turned the a/c on. Empanadus does Affogatos! Seriously if you have not you are missing it. It's a scoop of gelato topped with a shot of espresso. The best thing happening to the Homewood coffee scene right now. Now for the Empanadas. They are tasty. Every flavor isn't my thing, but that's okay I'm sure they're all for someone. The vegan bean and potato is really good. And it's great to have options for my mixed diet household. And you can buy them frozen to bake at home. Seating is seriously lacking. It's good to just plan on it as a to go place. I have been trying to go to this place for a couple of months and never seem to have made it. Today I woke up early to get over here and check it out. It's a very nice local place very nice people working. I got there when they first opened it so I was unable to get the coffee drink that I wanted specifically because the person who makes the specialty drinks had not arrived to work yet. So that was definitely a let down so I had regular coffee cream and some flavored syrups the coffee was very good and like I said the atmosphere and the ladies were extremely nice. The owner gave me a apple tart on the house since it was my first time and it was delicious. We got some empanadas to go they were very good I will definitely go back here and try it again and I highly recommend if you like homemade empanadas you stop by and check it out. read more

We're giving this place a first try on Pi Day (3.14). They have a nice variety of empanadas. All of the combinations sound tasty. I'll have to let you know. Do not leave Homewood without stopping at Empanadus. The reason I say this, the empanadas are great, but they also have the best coffee and pastries in Homewood. If you don't feel like an empanada, try their cappuccino. I used to go to La Voute, down the street, for my coffee but they got rid of their espresso machine. Empanadas is my new caffeine spot. The coffee is fantastic at Empanadus, and they have these small fruit pies in a glass case. They were amazing!!!!!!! We ate one, looked at each other,and then bought two more to go. Hi I was excited to try this place. Howeer the Empanadas are ompletely undewhelming. I am comparing this to another Spanish place i visited in Blue Island, Theirs wee excellent. This place does offer the best gelato. So this is the most appealing item here. Seaiting well... Not what I expected. Its a nice addition to Homewood's downtown scene. Too bad it just does not score high on the with taste buds for most folks. Especially me!! I do wish them the best of luck.. OMG Delicious almost homemade! One thing they miss on is the repulgue seam edge on hand-made empanadas. I have a thing for nibbling off the corners, which aren't as puffy on pressed seam empanadas, but I nitpick. They also need tiny gelato tasting spoons for use w the little cups of chimichurri.
