Gotta love those hole in the wall places that turn out to be fantastic. Would have never found this place if not for a friends recommendation, but I'm so happy I did. Stepped out of the rain and into the delicious smell of the roasted garlic loaf being pulled out of the oven. It was heavenly. They are a tiny little space but they have a lot of variety. Bread, wine, cheeses baked goods, coffee, frozen house made pasta, pizza & more bread to take home for later. I visited on a rainy day but there was a small outdoor seating area that would probably be nice in better weather. I was really impressed with this little spot. I ended up with a Rosemary salted focaccia that melt in my mouth. And a Rosemary loaf sliced for sandwiches later that was also good. Happy to have found this place. Look forward to trying the coffee, cheese wine and other offerings in the future. read more

Back in the 60's I can still remember going over the dunes and onto the beach in Coos Bay, to eat fresh cooked crab. Just yesterday, we went back through North Bend where we lived on a radar site. Coming home we stopped at the open Market where they had Fresh Catch fish of the day, fresh produce, homemade preserves (I bought Rustic Red, Peters, cranberries w/Oregon pinot noir), homemade Lavender Lady, Lavender lotion and soap products, and the Empire Bakery's roasted garlic sourdough bread. After sudsing myself in a bath with lavender soap; before settling in, I slipped some of the Sourdough Bread slices into the toaster; then lightly buttered, and spread on a nice cover of cranberry jam w/pinot noir. All I can say is that I am looking foward to a repeat tonight! To the Oregonian coastal community marketplace, their growers, fisherman, vintners, and other vendors i.e. children's wood chairs, jewelry, chef worthy wood handled pizza cutters, and to everyone else who works hard to make and sell their products...I deeply appreciate being able to buy these things. After seeing all the reviews I decided to stop in here on my quest to find a cinnamon roll that was at least as good as I could make at home. I thought I was in luck as they only had 1 left when I stopped on my way to work but was sadly disappointed. I don't mind spending $4.25 for a pastry that is edible, but this cinnamon roll was probably one of the worst I have had in my entire life. It looked fine but when I tried to eat it, I soon realized that it was dried out and hard. My biggest surprise was that a bakery would even sell these to a customer. I won't be stopping there again. We ordered coffee drinks and grabbed a bag of granola as well. Both were delicious. The cheese selection was impressive. The gentleman who helped us was very courteous and knowledgeable. I work just up the road from this Bakery and let me tell you, my boss and I have become addicted to the AMAZING cinnamon rolls! I get sent once a week for the perfectly baked, cinnamon loaded, and amazing creek cheese frosted cinnamon rolls!!!!!! This small cozy bakery is one of the best I have ever been to. They make the most amazing fresh sour dough bread! We used to live near by and we completely stopped buying store bought bread because we found their sour dough to not only be a better taste and texture, but to be healthier for us as well! We moved out of town last year and miss being able to buy our weekly bread there. When we do go back to Coos Bay on occasion, we make sure to stop by and pick up 5 or 6 loaves to put in our freezer! Their pastries and other breads are awesome too! We tried their chocolate cheese cake with the Port they had, trust me. ..it was delicious! I can't say enough about the owner and her sob, they have always been super friendly, considerate and helpful, which keeps us coming back even with a 2 hr drive one way! Ordered 4 dozen dinner rolls for a special get together. Thinking "fresh" from a bakery and being told it would take 24 hrs and they would call me when ready - no problem, right? Wrong! 25 1/2 hrs later no call so I went to check only to find my order was ready - 3dozen "frozen" rolls and 1 dozen fresh made. Don't let the term "bakery" fool you - probably would've been better off at Safeway. Fool me once.... read more

I visit the Oregon coast at least once or twice a year and never miss the opportunity to buy bread, pastry, and wine from the Empire Bakery. I'm ABSOLUTELY amazed by the quality, flavor, and price of all their products, as well as their service. If this place was anywhere near a metropolitan area, the line would be down the street at triple the price. I love the creativity of their new Parisian store front, too. read more

Absolutely fan-damn-tastic breads, delectable pastries, and the individuals manning the ship are super cool! They also sell local wines and make a mean cup of coffee. Our family stopped in for a quick cuppa, but ended up lingering for delicious snacks and good conversation. A lovely little shop, and they really know what they're doing when it comes to bread.
