I tend to select the more advanced student option and the prices vary accordingly. You can book via phone or on the app. The estimated duration is listed which helps with planning. Sometimes it can take longer so just be aware of that. No matter what, everything is checked by their instructor so you can feel good about the service being done correctly! The prices are great and you have an option to contribute to the education fund rather than tipping. The space feels like a salon for the most part and you get to smell the lovely Aveda products. I was offered water or coffee (they used to have the Aveda tea) and the student greeted me shortly after I arrived. First and foremost, this is a beauty school and the prices reflect that. When I make an appointment, I don't make the appointment thinking I'll always get in and out on time because there are times when they run behind and patience is a must when you come here. More often than not though, appointments are on time and I'm greeted by a friendly student who is eager to do a great job! Second, all students check in with their instructors before and after the cut so there could be touch ups by a more seasoned hand if the cut doesn't quite meet the required standards. But, very rarely have a left here with a cut where I wasn't happy. Quite honestly, I've received better haircuts here for $13 than I have at some salons where I've paid more than $40! After a quick review with the instructor, every haircut includes a shampoo and conditioning. Occasionally, there will be a little head massage even. After cut is checked, the student asks what kind of style is preferred before we're sent out into the world with our new 'do. I've received a few services here and all are well worth the price tag and it's a win-win because you're giving students the opportunity to practice their craft before heading out into the real world. Salons offer a different environment but I'll continue to come here because the price and the quality can't be beat!

Some are more confident, engaged, and eager to learn than others--which makes a big difference in the overall service. The same student did both my pedicure and haircut. The pedicure was good overall--the lotions and massage were really nice--but I was a little disappointed they no longer remove dead skin, which is something I personally look for. Color selection is somewhat limited, but still decent. My haircut was pretty simple--just a cleanup with added layers. The instructor did step in to guide the student, and while it wasn't done exactly right at first, the instructor finished it off and it ended up looking good and much healthier. I also got a shampoo with a really nice scalp massage, which was a highlight. I do like supporting the students and the learning environment, but it's important to go in with realistic expectations. It's a great option for affordable services--you just have to remember they're still learning.

My cut took about an hour and 30 minutes, which is longer than expected for something so simple. However, since this is a training school, students need to pause for instructors to check their work, which explains the pace. When I finished the course she said the certificates would be mailed but I never received mine and had to call regarding it. The first time I had made an appointment, when I showed up, salon services were not even open! Today they said there was no appointment for me. I showed them my phone with the call on it. They didn't think it was the right number. When I hit redial, their phone rang. So that was the difficult part. The good news is Nareni did have time to cut my hair. She was kind, thoughtful, and did a great job. So in the end, everything did work out. She was so good that I already booked my next appointment. I am seeing a response to a negative review that says instructors keep a close eye on students. Not true in my case. There was no instructor to monitor my cut.
