They neglected to install the countertop up to Wisconsin's state code, and they tried to charge me $379 for them to come out and drill the $29 hole that it would take to make it up-to-code (which should have been done in the first place). We tried getting a new dishwasher installed and were told we need to have an air gap hole drilled to be up to Wisconsin state code as of 2020, and if we install the dishwasher anyways without having the air gap hole drilled, we would be voiding our home insurance in cases of fire/flood due to the dishwasher. When we got the countertops from Badger Granite, they had asked if we needed an air gap hole drilled. I said that our last countertop did not have one, so they told me we don't need it for the new countertop either. I am disappointed that we were given this false information. When I spoke to someone at Badger Granite on the phone about it a few days ago, they said "your contractor should have told you that", but Badger Granite was in fact our contractor, and did not tell us. The contractor from Badger Granite who came out to drill the hole now even said that we would need that done to sell the house. We should have been advised of this, and should not have been responsible for covering any fee except the $29 for the hole to be drilled (as it should have been done during initial set-up, had we been advised that it is Wisconsin state code). They did "reduce" the price to $150 instead of $379 after I explained how ridiculous the situation is, but it shouldn't have been more than the actual $29 price nor should I have had to go through this, if they had just followed and advised of Wisconsin state code.

There were really no initial signs that our experience would be less than positive but things went downhill quickly. There were a lot of missteps in this business relationship but the main being - 1. They overcharged us by $300+ and when my husband confronted them the manager argued. We later received a call back from Lani letting us know that Badger had made a mistake. If you work with this company, triple check your charges and think about what was installed. It then took 2+ weeks to get a refund check. 2. I had to wait 4 weeks to get someone out to repair mistakes and they no called, no showed for the initial appointment. When the fabricator finally showed up the second time he yelled at me and told me that my expectations were too high. He finally made the repairs after I listened to him rant for 15 minutes. 3. Overall the install job was fine. Not the best I've ever seen. Luckily we love the colors of our counters but this company was not one I would recommend nor are they a business I would choose to work with again.

It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

Virtually every drawer in our kitchen had to have to slides replaced after the cheap plastic brackets broke off. We built 20 years ago and virtually every one of our six panel doors is now FALLING APART, like they were never glued in the first place. We have had to take virtually every one of them down, take them apart and then glue and clamp them back together. When I called them they couldn't even tell me who they ordered the doors from so I could take my complaint to the actual manufacturer. Doors are supposed to last forever under normal use, not 15-20 years. DO NOT USE THEM.

So I texted the owner with the details of the most complicated of 4 items that I needed taken care of. All in all, probably a half day's work. The message was read about 3 hours after I sent it, but that didn't elicit a reply, not even a quick text to let me know that Roe's schedule is full and that they're not taking on new work. This was the 7th handyman I've contacted. It seems nobody wants or needs work. [sigh]

Marcus and his assistant, Devon, came out yesterday to repair our back deck. The deck was built 20…read moreyears ago without professional guidance, so some of the woodwork was kind of wonky. The top part of the deck, made from teak, is still fine, but all the rails (aside from the main supports) and bottom of the stairs were pine, so many of those parts needed replacement due to wood rot. Additionally, the slats that framed around the porch weren't attached properly, so Marcus took them all off and reattached them correctly and securely. He also removed an electrical outlet that wasn't working and capped off the wiring. The baseboards were also replaced with PVC. It was a full-day project, and these guys worked hard. I can't say enough for their professionalism--from the quality work they did (plus explaining everything to me), and beginning and ending the day with cordial words. Such politeness is not a give in these days. The day began with a friendly greeting and ended in the evening with, "Have a nice night," not to mention polite interactions throughout the day. They also cleaned up perfectly, removing all the old wood. Even though they went beyond what we discussed, and Marcus did the extra work (wooden slats that weren't attached properly and a piece of wood behind the stairs that was replaced with PVC which we hadn't talked about initially) Marcus stuck to his original estimate. ***I would recommend these guys without reservation.*** I will also add that their pricing was very fair with an estimate given ahead of time.
