I heard first hand today the way they talk to their employees the driver was very nice. He asked to barrow a tape measure and I knew something wasn't right.when he brought our next bin. The bin that was dropped prior had smaller skids. Right away called the office. The person on the phone blamed him without taking accountability and something about a fuel load he said take it out my check! I told him f them your get this load we spent 2 hrs trying to get it right so if you're truck was dented that's on you guys! I'll be letting my manager know you will be getting the empty bin tomorrow and our business will be going elsewhere. Doesn't even deserve 1star! read more

Criminal organization. Per California Highway Patrol Handbook HPH 87.1 Chapter 4 section d. Abandoned Vehicle. A vehicle is considered to be "abandoned" if it is left on a highway, public property, or private property in such inoperable or neglected condition that the owner's intent to relinquish all further rights or interests in it maybe reasonably concluded. In reaching a reasonable conclusion, one must consider the amount of time the vehicle has not been moved, its condition, statements from the owner and witnesses, etc. My friend's stolen trailer mysteriously showed up at Empire Steel after hours. It is valued at $43,000 and in now way could any reasonable person conclude this to be abandoned as it is in impeccable condition. When Empire Steel's second attempted lien sale showed the trailer to be stolen, they appeared to be put out when the actual owner came to retrieve their stolen property. The lady in the office stated "Well, we're out a trailer now so here's your bill for $4,500 for storage fees". It's only a matter of time before accepting stolen property catches up with them. read more

I pick one because that is the lowest I can. Ripped off isn't the word. Taken to the cleaners makes these didos look good. Not only did the cheat me but they put 9 40 yard bins on one weight certificate and said I only had 337.00 coming. Do not get any answers from them so I went to attorney general and reported them for their scam to pay for their habit of stealing from don't gamble on these guys you will lose. They cheat you. And the person replying is so unprofessional about how she handles these complaints I'd call them. Instead of trying to help a possible return customer she is like well you and you could of went somewhere else. You know what I say. Well you know you dirty and I know some secrets. Soooo uh yeah. i have nothing good to say about this establishment, It was so bad I reached out to the BBB to file a complaint. As a licensed electrician in the state of California, I work closely with copper wire and understand the price as it fluctuates up and down daily. I returned about 23 lbs of copper, not too much but that particular day the price in California was $4.30 for #1. I got B&S #1 priced at $2.15 per lb. less than half the price. I asked the lady in the front about it when I went into pick up my measly $51, which I should have just left with them, as it was an insult. the worst part about the whole situation is when I was talking to the receptionist another gentleman interrupted our conversation and goes on to say that "if I want to drive to Oakland to return my copper I could get that price, and bear the fruit" dude I make more in one day working than you make in a week. I was not even asking for more money, I was simply asking how they configure getting the amount of less than half the state price. long story short the receptionists seems nice I didn't even get my question answered just a lecture on how to never come back to this establishment, I would not recommend it to anybody for anything, drive to Roseville or sac let these people go out of business. read more

When I do visit empire steel, the guys are always willing to help. The prices seem to always be reasonable, and I'm usually in and out pretty quick. Lady at office, nice n willing to help. Cute to read more

Got ripped off! Anywhere else they'll pay 3x as much as here. Call before you take your items. I learned my lesson!

I have used them several times to get rid of extra metal and to get a little cash in the process. They are always very friendly and helpful.
