My home is repeatedly receiving unsolicited junk mail from Empire Tax Reductions. I have repeatedly contacted them and asked to be removed from their junk mail mailing list, for annoying unsolicited junk mail, which they have not honored. The person I spoke with, was obnoxious, discourteous and unprofessional, when I asked to be removed from their mailing list. I indicated that I personally called several times about stopping their unsolicited junk mail, and the individual insisted that this was not the case. This person rudely interrupted me again and again when I attempted to explain that I do not want their business solicitations and tried to stop me from talking by shouting over me, in a very discourteous fashion. Totally inappropriate conduct. If you look at reviews for this company, there are many terrible complaints, as well as many 1 star reviews by customers. One service indicated a 1.6 stars rating out of 5 possible stars. Yelp alone has approximately 36 out of 40 1 star reviews!!! That's NOT good. Not where I would want to do business. There are much more "bad reviews" than "good reviews". When you read the dozens of terrible reviews and the serious allegations made against them, can they ALL be wrong???? I urge anyone who receives unwanted junk mail from Empire to contact the United States Postal Police or Inspectors to file a complaint. Enough is enough. I had used them for the 2014-2015 season for property tax reduction. I paid their fee and thought that they did absolutely nothing to reduce the taxes. As a matter of fact, I was the one who went the Nassau County officials to grieve my case. Hence, I did not even bother using them for the 2015-2016 season. But they are emailing and calling me saying that I still owe them money. They are a RIP OFF And now, in 2023 I get a call from them saying that they teamed with Maidenbaum on the taxes for 2020- 2021 WITHOUT MY KNOWING and that I owe them around $550 after I paid Maidenbaum!!!! Both companies a scams! This is what I wrote on the Maidenbaum page I got a serious question here. I just got a bill for $697.82 for my former house in Plainview. I was supposed to get a deduction from last year (2020) to this 1st half payment (2021). Now, my first half payment of 2020 was $6,117.58 and my first half payment of 2021 was $5,698.05. It was $419.53 less. Now, we have moved to Florida and am getting this GODDAM BILL OF $697.82 (WHICH IS ACTUALLY AN INCREASE OF $278.29 OVER LAST YEAR!!!!) After filing with them for 2023, they sent me a determination from Nassau County. Even though I told them I wanted to accept the reduction they had offered, they filed an appeal, against my wishes. This cost me an extra fee which I did not authorize. Go Elsewhere or do it yourself, every town has workshops to assist you. read more

This tax reduction company located in Glen Cove is very unethical (in my opinion), so please investigate before considering. They talked my 86 yr old father who has dementia into signing a Tax Grievance Reduction 2 year contract even though he told them his house was on the market to be sold at the time they had him sign the contract. He sold his house 6 months into this 2 yr contract and had to pay Empire Tax Reductions fee's for the next 2 years even though he had sold the house and was not living in it anymore. When I called them to explain the situation and offered to pay the first years fee of $2500.00 since they had already put in the work and expenses for it all I was told was that it was a 2yr contract, non negotiable. I told them the house has been sold and to please not apply for the 2yr of the contracts tax grievance reduction. I gave them 6 months notice prior to them filing for the next year and they applied for the reduction anyways and charged me another $2500.00. I called them several times to discuss the situation and I never got past the ignorant front desk staff. I was always told the owner would call me back but that never happened. Within 2 weeks of my phone calls to them without any return phone calls from them I received a letter from their attorney. I was told to either pay the full amount or they would sue for the entire amount plus late fee penalties. I paid the full amount for my father and learned a valuable lesson. Keep a close eye on the elderly all the time, there are a lot of unscrupulous people and businesses out there just waiting to prey on them and this is one of them. read more

When I log on to check status under existing clients it states my application has been received and is in process. After not receiving anything by mail, i contacted them and they have the nerve to tell me I must have submitted somewhere else. I sent a screen shot showing it was submitted and was just dismissed and told well we don't have it and theirs nothing we can do for you and now the deadline passed! I'm writing this on behalf of my parents who used Empire Tax Reductions for 3 years and were charged money each time despite my parents property taxes only increasing significantly each year. When they were asked why they should pay despite the fact that their taxes were higher (e.g. one year from $28K to $32K), they responded that the taxes could have been much higher so they actually "saved" my parents money?!!!...but they had no proof of that! Just a clicked box on the internet. After receiving the info I offered to pay. To my surprise they jacked up the price and would not honor the quote I received. They charged me for their delay! We have used empire tax reduction for years and have received reductions on school and home taxes. Happy that they have now added a discount fee for early payment. Would give them 5 stars if and additional reduction was added for loyal customers. All these companies charge a fee. Empire has been successful for us and we hope it continues. What a Scam. They took me to court for failure to pay a bill for services I never authorized. The signauure on the paper was not mine and they do not have any type of security to verify authorization of services electronically. by the interaction of the collection person from Empire tax and the court clerk and it seems like they spend alot of time taking poeple to court. read more

If you are considering using Empire Tax Reductions' property reduction services, I would caution you to be careful as this is an aggressive, predatory company that charges unconscionable amounts for their most electronic "service". This involves a computer program automatically gathering real-estate sales information for your area at the time the assessment is made, and electronically providing this information to Nassau County. They do very little but ask a very high fee for it. They have a brilliant business plan when you think of it. They take advantage of the fact that Nassau County OVER-assesses properties (that is, overtaxes us, which is a violation of our basic civil rights) and makes the entire assessment and grievance process difficult to understand and the rules & processes opaque so that most people will either give up (because they have to work to pay the taxes) or pay these property-reduction sharks good money in order to obtain the CORRECT assessment that should have been given by Nassau County in the first place. Think about it; isn't this mind-boggling? If the tax amount Nassau county charges many home-owners is correct, why is it that a company like Empire, or a homeowner, can challenge it and obtain a lower tax? Empire and homeowners do NOT have any additional information that Nassau county does not have; Nassau county could very well, on its own, figure out the correct assessment for most people. Please call them and ask. The problem with using Empire is that if their assessment challenge is successful, you will have to pay a significant portion of it - some years they ask 40%, some 50%. You may think you win anyway because you still save that 50% or 60% but this is money you shouldn't have to pay at all because your original tentative assessment is fiction! In other words, you are paying Empire a big sum to keep you from paying money you shouldn't have to pay anyway. You're paying a bunch of opportunist thieves to keep you from having even more of your hard-earned income stolen by a bunch of other opportunist thieves. Let's say they are successful and you get the CORRECT assessment that Nassau govt, your govt, owes you but does not provide to you. You pay Empire their pound of flesh (you know, to protect you from losing more), then the good folks at Nassau County will go right back to over-assessing your property the next year. It is a never-ending merry-go-round and Empire makes millions of dollars from us because our government doesn't work for us, it works for itself. You CAN file the application yourself but you will have to do some work - call Nassau County, call the Assessment Commission, ask as many questions as you can. You need to file the gather real-estate sales data for your area around the time the assessment was made. It's not as difficult as it sounds and you can do it online on their website. Your application will likely be rejected by the mighty Assessment Commission, then you'll have to go to the SCAR step (Small Claims Assessment Review). This is where Empire gets the majority of assessment reductions. You can hire a lawyer to do this who will charge you a lot less than Empire, or do it yourself. If you've ever had them apply for you and get your grievance application approved at the SCAR level, then request all forms related to your SCAR review - you have that right, invoke the Freedom of Information Act if you must. You'll be able to see what Empire did and do the same. Whatever you do, don't use this company. The Nassau County Civil Claims court is filled with their never ending cases asking huge sums from beleaguered home owners who are already taxed out of their home and they always win. Once they get a judgement against you, they will go after your home and charge you interest and they are ruthless about that. Of course, once you get to court, everyone from the security guard to the judge will collar you and ask why you, almost-criminal, are not paying your debts. Didn't you sign here, sir, m'am? But note that they aren't concerned about the fact that your government is lying to you, that big companies lie to you every day and sell you garbage for good money, that politicians lie to us every day, that county administrators give us INFLATED assessment levels. No, no, it's YOU alone whose feet are held to the fire; you have to pay, you have to tell the truth, you have to be honest or else! You know that saying.. strain a gnat and swallow a camel. There are several other companies that offer the same service. Use one of them (search property grievance in your county), use a lawyer, or do it yourself but don't use this company. read more

I wish I read these reviews before hiring ETR! I was a first time homeowner and the previous owners had not grieved taxes for generations so I thought I would try. I wish someone told me how easy it is to do it yourself! After not hearing back from ETR I finally received a letter stating that my property tax will go down come October. However, it ended up actually going wayyy up in October. As a first time homeowner, I reached out to ETR to understand why this happened. They just kept telling me things I already knew, that the tax is paid out of escrow and overall tax rates went up. I sent them actual numbers I was seeing paid out of my escrow and they just kept repeating the same thing like I am a child and could not explain simple math, even as we walked through the numbers. I spent way more time than I should have, considering I was paying ETR THOUSANDS of dollars to help me (I was really spinning my wheels trying to figure this out). What had happened was during this process the star credit had dropped off and although they obviously knew this happened, for some reason they refused to tell me during the countless e-mails and calls. The reason I realized this was the staff member I spoke with finally sent me the website she was referencing, where it was very evident what had happened. When I pointed it out they said they have nothing to do with it and I'm on my own for that (OK- but It should have been simple enough to explain the three items that changed -not two- from one year to the next when I asked SO many times. It would have saved me so much effort). All they care about is what's written in their contract and they will bully you and harass you for every penny. They even came back and charged me for the following year (I have a whole new bill from them that did not exist last year but I only hired them once). They just kept hiking up my fees during the back and fourth with their staff, and eventually charged me MORE than 50% of savings they calculated using the highest tax rates of the periods in question. Despite all this, not a single apology. They just sent me e-mails telling me that my questions were wasting their time (and other unacceptable language that I will not include here). Please be careful of what you're signing! Even if something is not your fault, they will take you to court, waste all your time and make you pay their legal fees. Please do some research on how to grieve your own taxes. It's one form and will take less than an hour to do. Don't fall for these scams! read more
