I called after the window expired to a very unapologetic customer service person who called the sales person and learned they were running late and would be to me in 20 minutes. Had to reschedule the appointment because I had no faith that they'd arrive in 20 minutes since I hadn't heard anything from them when they knew they were not going to make the original appointment window. I don't mind late, but I absolutely mind poor communication and unapologetic attitudes for inconveniencing our household as we had to adjust plans around the appointment window. Empire today replaced my carpeted floor with "Luxury Vinyl Plank" flooring less than 2 years ago and the transition pieces came out of the floor and I have a plank that is cracked in the middle of my living room. I was told that their work was only warranted for 1 year but that the flooring itself had a 5 year manufacturing warranty. They want to charge a $150 consultation fee and tell me that the cracked plank wouldn't be covered by the manufacturer warranty since it's a singular plank and not multiple. They also tried to tell me the most likely reason the floor is cracked is because of the cleaner I have been using. When I did the initial consultation I asked the best way to clean the floor and all I was told that my Swiffer wet mop pads would be fine or to get any cleaner to spot clean small messes. The only thing he told me not to do was use a mop and bucket to clean because the floor wasn't meant to be doused with a bunch of water. Well the representative that I talked to today told me I was supposed to use a specific non water based cleaner and that's why my floor has a crack in it... absolute BULL CRAP! EMPIRE Today is a crappy company that over charges for their flooring and makes up excuses to not cover issues with their product. Products installed were not the same quality of sample shown to us in our home. They promised there would be no dust left, it was so bad my asthma flared up & I couldn't be in the area of the house. We had to hire a construction cleaner to clean the walls & everything. 2 years later flooring started coming up, they won't fix it. To top it off Installer pooped in our bathroom & put the toilet paper in the trash can!!!!! We told them & didn't even get an apology . Worst mistake ever going through them. Company does not stand by its product. Had wood laminate flooring installed less then a year ago. After approximately 8 months, the laminate floor started to buckle and warp at the edges. Initially Empire was quick to send someone out to look at the floor and promised that we "would be taken care of". After chasing them for the last 5 months, they've finally said that they're not going to fix the issue because the product we used to clean the floor is not approved by them. Mind you that the product we used is a product by Bissell made especially for this type of flooring. Gregg, the installation manager, is the master in double-talk. Always promising to take care of the issue before having someone in his office call us to say that there is nothing they can do. Extremely disappointed. read more

We agreed to have our floor done with them. We had flooring set and everything. We waited and when the time came, they sent representatives who could not speak English. We could not communicate with them. They put us on the phone with another representative who also could not speak proper English. Ultimately, we couldn't have the floor done so they just left. Extremely cheap materials used spent $20,000 on LVP flooring for my home immediately starting buckling up . Spent over 3 months arguing with them about fixing it . Empire right away said it's a 3rd party vendor they use to instal tried to put on them tell me I had to take up with them. I paid empire they didn't tell me they used 3rd party why should I have to fight with them. It wasn't an install issue it was crap materials . Felt bad owner of the 3rd party came out and looked he had to buy boxes of flooring from them and fix for free even though not his fault. Every couple months more peels up or buckles . Horrible lesson learned if it's a lot cheaper than other quotes don't fall for it . read more

Poor customer service. I scheduled an appointment for a fee estimate last Saturday (3/16), that was supposed to happen today 3/23/24. Throughout the week, empire sent 2 emails, a confirmation on 3/16 and a reminder on 3/22. I also received several text reminders. On 3/23 at 11:27am I received a call saying the estimator can come at noon. I called back to confirm that they could come early and the rep who answered the phone said that they were still scheduled to come between 1-3. My husband and I waited and no one called or showed up. When I called customer service to find out what happened they reported that the estimator called and came to the door. NO ONE has called me since 11:27, nor did anyone come to my home. They did not ring the door bell or knock on the door (nor did my fog alert me that someone was at the door). I do not understand how as a company leading up to the appointment I received communication but on the actual day they were supposed to show up no one reach out. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. read more

If I could give this company negative stars I would. They are SCAMMERS. They came to give us a quote- my husband repeatedly told him we're just looking for a quote as we don't even have the insurance claim finalized yet. He gave us a "low price" (which to our knowledge was lower than the first company we went with but didn't know better otherwise) He said we can only give you this price if you finance thru us and we would need to check your credit score to secure the quote. My husband said - okay but you're only checking my credit, correct? And he said yes and he needed to sign here to be allowed to run the credit check. Well after that we come to find out we are in a contract with them and we received a credit card from Wells Fargo thru Empire Today in his name. My husband called and screamed at them for 30 mins and threatened legal action if they didn't cancel the contract. He finally agreed to over the phone but we have not received any written confirmation as of yet. I plan to pursue the better business bureau next. read more

Empire uses Bait-and-Switch tactics to sell products. The sales representative that comes to your home shows you one product and then the installers show up with a different product of a lower quality. This is how the 50% Off promotion scam works. You are led to believe you are purchasing a high quality product at a reduced cost but in reality you getting a low quality product at a very inflated price. Empire is very skilled in deceiving consumers so be aware that they conduct the sales transaction and word the contract so that the so-called guarantees are null and void. Part of the scam involves giving the product Empire intends to sell a fake name so that you cannot do comparison pricing and then on the day of installation when you realize that the bait-and-switch scam is being run it is too late to claim the consumer protections because that must be done before the day of installation. The Empire name has been around for years because these guys are good at what they do, unfortunately what they do is seprate you from your hard earned money. Please heed my warning and look elsewhere for flooring. read more

Total bait and switch. The salesman asked for 25% up front. We agreed and signed an agreement. Once the installer arrived, he wanted the other 75% or he wouldn't begin. We had specifically discussed paying the rest after the work was completed. We were flat out lied to by the salesman. Do not choose Empire if carpet color is important to you. I'm stuck with a super light color now and the only thing they have offered is I can pay for different carpet at a discounted rate. The first installers beat the walls up so not trying to go through that again. I'm not even sure why they show you samples since they give you whatever color they want to anyway. I cannot fully express the horrible experience we have had with this company. They promised the job would be done in 1 day. It took 4. They were never on time and the last day stayed until 11 pm. They left the house a mess and the job looked horrible. Gaps between the floor and door jams, scratches on the new floor, chipped paint on the walls, missing moldings. It took over two weeks for anyone to call us back to fix the problems. We called multiple times and got multiple reference numbers about our case. It was ridiculous. Now they finally send someone out to fix things and the worker claims he told us about the issues. Lies! They packed up in such a hurry. They didn't have time to tell us anything. I would never recommend this company! Use them only if you want to waste money, time and energy for horrible service. I'll continue to post on every source possible because this company is a disaster. Please save your money and use someone else. They make promises they can never live up to or keep. This was a free estimate. 720 square feet she said my total would be $6000. But because they're having a 1/2 off sale, she'd only charge me $2800. After saying, I need to think it over and "no" I'm not signing a contract, she left. But holy crap, was it uncomfortable. I had 600sqft of vinyl plank intallled Aug 11 2020. They did the install 2 days after the sales contract. In Oct i noticed a leak from the half bath toilet and some places throughout the floor that were buckling. I called and 2 men came out to confirm. They said someone will contact me. I repeatedly call to get this resolved and no one ever calls me back. At one point they "closed" the case .....I am still dealing with this issue and no one will call me back to fix my flooring. Sounds good, but you'll never find out how much the original price was, no matter how many times you ask. I has carpets installed last December, and could never find out the original price of my 50% off carpet. The only way I could estimate was to go to Lowes and get their price for about the same carpet and compare the two. You will never find the price on their website. Was then told I had a balance due after installation because they can't do basic math. Carpet installer made racist remarks. Carpet looks eh. Edited: Finally got through to a customer service representative on Friday and they said systems had just come back up. They came out today and finished the job. The carpet itself is great and they did a good job with installation but I think they need to have better practices in place for when systems go down and even if they can't assist - they need to at least return calls and let people know they aren't being forgotten. Installers came out and didn't have enough carpet to finish the job. Were supposed to come back 4 days later to finish but never showed up. I've been calling every other day for two weeks - no one will call me back, they say their system has been down (for 2 weeks? How do you run a business like this?), and the only people that answer the phones are the ones who set up the free estimate visits. They've called and emailed the local office - no one can help with anything! I haven't received my first bill yet but I'll be contacting the financing company to inform them of fraudulent charges until the job has been completed! read more

I had Easy Living Laminate flooring installed in February of 2015. The salesman insisted this was quality flooring, durable, scratch resistant, water resistant (hydra core technology), you name it. Was installed the next day. No complaints about installation. One of the installers did help himself to my pantry, but I let it go & was appreciative of the long hours they put in to install the whole lower floor in 2 days. That week I noticed scratches. Big scratches. Not from moving furniture around or abusing it, just in random places, scratches. I contacted Empire & they sent me a copy of my warranty (which basically covered nothing. You have this great big long warranty and it doesn't cover scratches.) In Chandra's email it says to contact her with any questions. I responded with a lot of questions, like how am I supposed to feel like a happy customer when I paid & am still paying for a floor that scratches. I was told it was very durable and wouldn't scratch. Our Pergo flooring from Lowes never scratched so why would I doubt him. I will be paying for this floor for the next couple of Years! I am very upset. But no response from Chandra. Hopefully I can prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did, by trusting them with money we barely have. read more

23m · Shared with Public Okay so here is my rant for the day! Empire Carpet! About 13 months ago we had Empire come out to get an estimate for carpet for our upstairs bedrooms and hallway. We accepted their offer and gave them a credit card payment that day. First of all, they changed the install date on us once it was scheduled, which of course messed with our time schedule and guests that were to visit we had to cancel! Secondly once it was installed we noticed two things later that day....first, you could see ever seam on the carpets! second there were small tar spots all over one of the bedrooms! I called that day on these issues and I was told that someone would get back to me! It took three different sets of people, over a two month period to come out to our home to finally determine that this was unacceptable and had been improperly installed! We did put a stop payment on our charge as we wanted the issue corrected. Once the replacement was done (all carpets were ripped out and replaced) I called Empire to ask for some compensation for THEIR ERRORS....I was told they would get back to me. Yesterday I received a bill from them....never got a call back...over a year! I called them and got a call back today from a person who lied to me! Said they had called me, emailed me and by accepting the replacement carpet I was okaying everything! She also said that this was in collections....not so as I spoke with another Empire person who told me it was just a bill...I did mention to my husband as he walked by that I thought she was a bitch....and she was! She refused to talk to me and said she would report me to the Better Business Bureau....guess what they cant do that, but I can! She as I stated before said that this bill was in collections, and it was not! So all I am saying is Empire is not a company I would ever recommend or ever use again! Did I pay their bill....yup! I called for an appointment and a sales man came out and gave me a quote with a promotional 8 oz padding instead of the standard 6 oz padding. That was great until they came to install the carpet and they brought the 6 oz but since this was our vacation house and we drove in just to have it installed, we were forced to have it installed as scheduled. I called a few days before and confirmed with our sales man that all was good. I alerted the sales man and he said call Jessica the marketing manager. Three phone calls and three messages later, she still has returned my call. I also spoke to two people with corporate in Chicago and they haven't returned my call either. We have an insurance claim and Empire Today refused to send a physical quote that we could submit to our insurance company for approval. What are they hiding that they cannot send a quote? They wanted 15k, but refused to send any paperwork backing up their costs. I spent 3 hours calling them today trying to get a quote emailed to me, they have officially lost my business and I will be sure not to recommend them to anyone. Had an install of carpet and of their best stuff. Installers was great but when they found a defect in carpet it went down hill from there. I was told they would be here the next day to finish the job. But instead I got no call or show. When I called them it took 26 min to get an answer about what happened. It went from truck is having a problem and won't be there until noon then they would call to set up a time. Said that they was busy sending trucks out so they was not answering the phone. Hummmm sounds like I became a add on or just someone who else has paid and they don't need to install when they said. Day three of the Empire nightmare 8-8-2014 still no carpet. Over a month ago I ordered carpet for our livingroom (the room we use the most) from Empire Today. Sales guy came out, loved the carpet, good to go. Fast forward to the day of installation: (Nov1) Rep calls and says sorry but our installer cancelled, we need to reschedule for next day. Ok, things happen and I was ok with that (Nov2) they come out, ripped up the old and low and behold the new carpets do not match together and was cut too short so they couldn't do the install. He said he had to leave it the way it was and Now I'm left with 2 sheets of carpet on subfloor (they took out the old) exposed nails and tack strips, a hazard to everyone in the house including the animals. My furniture is still all over the house as well as all my decor and Knick knacks. I Called to complain to Empire Today and they said there was nothing they could do but order a new roll and ensure that it matched and was the right size. As for a discount or anything, it was not their problem that it was the wrong size/color. (Nov3) carpet didn't make it in on the next day shipment. (Nov4) carpet was delivered to warehouse but sure enough it was the WRONG material...she said she would call when new arrived but couldnt give a date since tomorrow was Friday. Update: (Nov5) the right material was ordered however they will have to call Monday to get me on the schedule for installation! This is now a week I rearranged my entire schedule for these guys and it's been a waiting game ever since. The customer service rep has been awesome and sympathetic for my situation but they still have not offered any help, discount or rush of any sort. We as a busy household cannot function around this chaos and at this point, if they hadn't have ripped up the old, I would have cancelled days ago. no discount or refund has been offered. Stay away from Empire today. The sales rep will make promises, but your contract will not reflect those promises. They will not return phone calls or emails. Eventually at the time of installation they will show up with a completely different price than what you were "verbally" promised. After installation you will be harassed to pay additional amounts above and beyond what you were quoted. It is truly not worth the hassle. Just go with a local company since they will end up using them for the installation anyways. read more

The sales rep came out to our house. He was prompt and polite. When he told us the cost we expressed a little apprehension so he suggested we CHECK to see if we qualified for financing. Since it was just a check my husband and I agreed. Next thing you know, he's on the phone with a lady giving us an account number and telling us a card should be arriving within the week! I had tile and carpet put in at the end of May 2022. Carpet was wonderful, tile was great. However, had to have the grout repaired due to holes in it and the grout not completely covering the tile work. I had 3 separate appointments for someone to come look. The first 2 appointments no one came out. The 3rd appointment someone finally came out that took 5 minutes to inspect. 2 days later I had to reach out to find out when someone was coming to fix the tile. I finally reached someone that told me the inspection has not been rerouted to her so an appointment could be made to fix the problem. It has been almost a month waiting on my grout to be fixed. I was also told that when inspections are needed due to a repair, we have to squeeze you in. Originally, I spoke with the salesman who told me, once the product was sold, anything after that was up to the installer. Not to mention I called the installation office 2 days in a row for no one to answer. I paid around $3000+ for tile and still waiting on repairs. read more

The sales lady promised me the moon, that the job would be done in two days and then they showed up with broken tile, told me it would be another week to buy more and then ignored my calls the day they told me they would come back. I had to call the company using Skype (so they didn't recognize the number) before they agreed to come back, adding another week to the job, so the job went from being two days to almost two weeks and then, they told me they couldn't install the floor because my subfloor wasn't level and the sales lady hadn't ordered enough material in the first place. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY SUCK HARD!! I'm still waiting on that imaginary call they say is coming that will resolve this matter and I still haven't heard a word from them. UPDATE - Empire Today contacted me and had an independent local company test the carpet to determine the issue. Ultimately, it was determined that the problem with my carpeting is not site related (i.e., high traffic area) - it's just shitty carpeting and wears down easily. Meaning, Empire Today sold me really shitty carpeting that looks terrible AND there isn't anything wrong with the carpet - it just always looks terrible after light wear and a couple months. Better yet, they assert that they aren't responsible for what their sales people say to customers because the sales people are independent contractors (read: agency law) and my specific sales person has since been terminated by that company (assumingly, for lack of knowledge about carpeting). I STRONGLY recommend not using Empire Today for the obvious reasons related to my reviews about them. read more

***Elderly Scammed by Empire Today*** I recently placed a call to Empire Today on my mother's behalf to get an estimate on having repair work done on the wood floors. My parents had the floor installed throughout most of the house by Empire about eight months ago. There has since been a toilet leak which seeped under the wall from the bathroom into the master bedroom and caused water damage to a few of the flooring panels. I explained this situation to the Empire representative. She told me that they still have that particular flooring in stock and the damaged area could be repaired. She quoted me a price of $2,600 to replace the bedroom flooring and some of the flooring in the hall leading out of the bedroom. I said that really the entire bedroom floor did not need to be replaced because only a part was damaged and she informed me that their estimator would take a measurement and the cost could be less if not as much needed to be replaced. Either way I felt okay with the $2,600 quote and planned to have Empire do the work. I explained to the Empire representative that my mother is elderly and not fully aware of things. I am calling on her behalf and can they please call me back with the final price estimate. She said certainly we can do that and she took my name and phone number. A few weeks later I give my mom a call just to see how she is doing that day. She said everything is good and that the flooring people were there replacing the floor. I was very surprised because I had heard nothing from them. She told me they gave her a new estimate of $6,349 the day before and arrived that morning to start the work. They replaced less than 200 SF of flooring and were not even required to reinstall the molding. I called Empire and couldn't get through to anyone that could help. They said we will leave a message for this person or that person to call you back and they did not. Finally, Jessica the manager of the Charlotte office called. I started to explain to Jessica what had happened and she cut me right off. She said I know what is going on. Your mother signed a new estimate which voided the one you were given. I again tried to explain and she rudely cut me off with saying the same thing over and over; my mother signed the estimate. The phone call ended with Jessica hanging up on me. My mother is 75 years old, lost her husband about three months ago, and is fighting cancer with weekly cancer treatments. I feel that Empire Today took advantage of a vulnerable elderly person. No one in their right mind would have paid that amount for the small amount of flooring repair. I think they saw that she was not in her right mind and took the opportunity to cash in. Update- Empire refunded $1184.00 for "services not rendered". It was explained in a phone conversation that the services not rendered were due to no sub-flooring having to be replaced as originally on their estimate. Empire stands by the final cost of $5,165.00 for the flooring repair. They claim that 1/3 of the wood floors in the house were replaced which is a false claim. To do that the all the flooring would have had to be replaced all the way to the dining room and living room (over 300 SF). I was encouraged to review the documents of the work which I have done several times and reinforces my frustration with Empire. I encourage Empire to review their documents and know what they are talking about. Do yourself a favor and avoid dealing with this company. read more
