I rarely leave negative reviews, but after months of trying to work with Empire, I feel obligated to share my experience. We hired Empire in April to replace the carpet on our covered porch and paid our deposit with the understanding that the installation required approximately 48 hours of suitable weather before and after the project due to the adhesive specifications. Living in the Pittsburgh area, I completely understood that weather could delay scheduling, and I was prepared to be flexible. What I was not prepared for was repeated cancellations during the best weather windows of the entire season. On one occasion, we removed all of our porch furniture and prepared everything for installation, only to have the appointment cancelled. After I called to explain that we had an upcoming party and really needed to take advantage of the rare stretch of perfect weather, the installation manager assured me someone would come the following day. The next morning, I received a call telling me that "none of the installers took your job." I was then promised the job would be completed the following Monday or Tuesday. It wasn't. Instead, I received another generic rescheduling notification. This pattern continued over and over until the weather inevitably changed and the ideal installation conditions were gone. I escalated the issue to corporate customer service, documented the entire timeline, and simply asked for assurance that my next scheduled installation would actually happen. I never received a response, let alone a resolution. After months of waiting, repeated rescheduling, broken promises, and no confidence that my project would ever actually be assigned to an installer, I ultimately cancelled my order. The most frustrating part is that weather was never the biggest obstacle. When ideal weather conditions existed, Empire repeatedly failed to capitalize on them. For a company that installs outdoor flooring requiring very specific weather conditions, that is simply unacceptable. If you're considering Empire for an outdoor installation, be prepared for the possibility that your project may continue to be pushed back, even when conditions are perfect. Do not use Empire Today for ANY reason. They were originally scheduled to do my Job June 1 and it is now June 16. They have waited until the night before to cancel the first two times and today texted me at 7:00 am to tell me a crew won't be here today. They are unprofessional and have no regard for the customer. I have moved my schedule around and taken off work numerous times and yet they keep canceling saying no crew is available. Empire came and prepared a quote for redoing our flooring on the ground floor. We settled on a flooring and Empire took a deposit on the flooring. We got the installation scheduled and prepared the house. We moved furniture upstairs, cleared the rooms, got everything ready the week of the scheduled install which we had been charged a deposit on. Two days before the scheduled install date, we get a text message informing us that our flooring was not available. The flooring we had been charged a deposit on and that was supposed to be scheduled less than 48 hours later was suddenly not available. There had been no communication that the flooring we were charged for was not available. There had been no previous communication that the work we had done to get the house prepared and were living with furniture rearranged and everything ready for the installation 48 hours later. Then we get a text message informing us that the flooring we'd been charged for was not available and we had to select another flooring. Less than 48 hours before install, we were told via text we would have to select a different flooring with time to drive in and view the options, no time to review financing and the pricing that would be changed. Less than 48 hours before the install day that we had taken off of work to be able to help manage the dogs while the install happened and we were informed our flooring we had paid for was not available. Completely, patently unprofessional. We paid a deposit for flooring that was not reserved for us. We took time off of work to rearrange furniture and prepare the house for an install that was cancelled BY EMPIRE less than 48 hours. Less than 48 hours to come and pick a replacement flooring that we had already decided on, with no time to come and view options. Less than 48 hours to push a more expensive or a different option for flooring on us. Atrocious customer service. False advertising in taking a deposit for flooring that was reserved for us which it turns out is not. No attempt to discuss replacements. No options provided at cost. Nothing. Just told that we needed to pick a new one, two days before, because the flooring we reserved was not reserved. Picked carpet and flooring, paid deposit and set date for installation. Hard wood flooring on 5/18/26 and carpet on 5/19/26. The hard wood installation was great! 5/18/26 a phone call from installer stating they were 30 minutes away. Showed up 20 minutes later and introduced themselves, little hard to understand, but explained everything. Did a nice job and cleaned up. The following morning 5/19/26 the promised day of installation of carpet I received an email at 8:00AM that they had canceled my contract and wanted me to confirm a new contract for a 5/25/26 install date. I called the salesperson and explained that was not acceptable. He made some calls and got the install changed to 5/20/26 and later got an email changing the contract to 5/20/26, I approved that date. 9:00AM on 5/20/26 I get a call from the installer stating he was picking up my carpet and would be there soon. He arrived and showed up in a beat-up van and wasn't very happy. I asked where his crew was and he said it was just him. He looked around and said "there's furniture that needs moved, I only do empty houses" and left. That's where I am now.... read more

Do not go with this company. I had a sales rep come, quote my floors the first week of March. I put a deposit down, and set up an install date for my basement. Install date comes, the installers come in, don't ask questions, don't speak to me. They call their manager, and state that I have asbestos in my floors and refuse to work. No problem I totally understand, and I will get it fixed. I get the asbestos rectified, and get all of the certificates that they say that they need. They say I'll be top priority for an install since this happened, and get it scheduled for April. They moved me out four weeks. Finally, the install day comes the Second week of May. No one calls me, no one text me, I get an email that says that my date has again been changed to two days after the install date. I call Their department, and get the runaround for an hour. Finally, somebody tells me that a worker was injured, and they needed to move the date. No problem I can make the next day work. The day of install comes, and they show up shockingly, and I pay my full amount for the floor Before install, even though the contract says that I don't need to pay the full amount until after. They begin to work on my floor, and about an hour later they put their manager on the phone with me who says that the flooring I have for my floor isn't correct and my floor isn't level enough for it. I've had multiple people in my home, selling me the floor and looking at the floor and not a single person has told me that this is incorrect, or that they couldn't install it on my floor. They told me I had to contact the sales person for a different flooring and to have them come and quote me for a new floor. We are now almost 3 months out from when I originally purchased the floor, and I still don't have a floor, and they are fully paid. I've called them multiple times today to try and get this rectified, and nobody is willing to speak with me. Pick any other company and save yourself a headache because this has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had. If zero stars were possible, I would do just that. 5/28/26- I still don't have my flooring. I've talked to probably every manager there is at this company. Extremely disappointed with Empire Carpet and their false promises. I was told by the sales rep that the carpet I chose would not snag and would hold up well -- that's why I went with it. To be extra safe, I even purchased the warranty. Less than a year later, the carpet started snagging and looks terrible. When I filed a warranty claim, it was denied, even though I followed all care instructions and the damage was exactly what I was told wouldn't happen. I spent over $10,000 on this carpet, expecting quality and honesty. Instead, I'm stuck with a poor-quality product and a company that refuses to stand behind their own sales promises or warranty. They promise installation and then cancel the day before. Had this happen with vinyl flooring installation. It was only delayed one day but personal plans were made for the original installation date! Then when carpet was to be installed they called the day before the installation and rescheduled it for 9DAYS LATER!! Their unacceptable cancellation and rescheduling has cost me time and more importantly financial expenses because we were moving into a new home and could not bring the furniture into the new home until the flooring was installed. Their excuse for the rescheduling was because they had no installers in the surrounding area. Tried to contact a manager at Empire Today but the customer service dept told me that no one was answering the phones in that department so they left a message to have the manager call me. I probably would NEVER use Empire again if just for the simple reason they can't give you a better arrival time window for your install...I live an hour away from a completely empty house that I'm having carpet installed in and I have to sit in and empty house (NO FURNITURE) for 10 hours...yep a 10 hour window they give you. I will never be using empire again as they do not value anyone's time and are just looking to make a buck. I chose empire because we needed to get moved into a house as soon as possible and they could be there within the week for installation. I should have known when the sales rep had to call the scheduler to get approval for my carpet to be installed that day. Carpet was scheduled for install Wednesday and we were to receive a call around 7:30AM with an estimated time for install, so a family member was waiting at our house. We heard crickets until about 11:00AM when the installer called and said he should arrive around 5. Later than expected, but fine. Around 4:15PM I called the installer for an ETA to make sure I wouldn't miss him for the 20 minutes I needed to pick the kids up from child care and now it was 6PM arrival. 6:45PM and still nobody and no call. I called customer service and they could not reach anyone in the office or get ahold of the installer. 7:30PM rolls around and the installer called to say he could be there in about 30 minutes if that was okay and he should be there until about 10-10:30PM. This infuriated me, but if we rescheduled who knows when that would have been. We have 3 children under 3 that go to bed between 8 and 9PM and their rooms had nothing for them to sleep on since we moved their mattresses for the install. We decided to have the installer come so we could quit living in chaos. He didn't leave until 12:35AM!! This is totally unacceptable and I would advise everyone to steer clear of Empire unless you can clear your schedule for 24 hours and hope the project gets done. The installer did a good job and the carpet looks good so far (only 1 week and 2 days in), but their scheduling department needs to re-evaluate. I would have preferred to pay a little more and wait an extra week or two for a different company to come do the job than deal with this nonsense. NEVER AGAIN! read more

They two weeks later but i had to pay balance before they began which was a total mistake since the work was absolute garbage. The guys installing were great and very professional but the finish work is a joke. As I am guessing empire lets them finish it the way they do. Threshhold next to old threshold, quarter round butted up against old trim, put trim right over vents, there are nails popping up in many spots, carpet is pulling away from steps where they laid new hardwoods. i had hardwood floors in dining room and lvp throughout kitchen and hallway. i payed for he extended warranty with install. i was told by salesman that if anything damages or any flooring issues the warranty would cover even if i damaged it. here my son discovered that they did not install the flooring wall to wall. We noticed the gaps,high and lows So my son started to walk around the room here discovered that the flooring wasn't installed to wall. OMG WHAT!! Empire Todday came to give me an estimate on replacing carpet for a home we were going to sell. We decided that we would replace carpet because the existing floor was old and didn't look well and new carpeting would enhance the value. Empire gave us a bid of $3500.00 for two rooms of carpet. Literally three days later I go on Facebook in search of something and find an add for 1/2 off flooring and installation. After contacting Empire they decided not to honor the estimate they had already given me. Now also that $3500.00 original estimate was to take advantage of a different promotion at $50.00 a room after paying for one room. When I questioned the estimate I was told the carpet we picked out did not qualify for the promotion. These guys bait & switch tactics are popular business ways Empire Today does business. I had carpet installed in June 2024. The carpet looks fine but the installers did a horrible job. For example, they took a chunk out of my bannister and some woodwork. They also cracked the tile in my adjoining kitchen. Their customer service is the WORST even though I have before and after pictures of the damage. I had our carpet replaced in March of 2024 and was satisfied with the end product. Recently noticed the seam in my living room was coming apart in my living room and called the company to fix the issue. Last Saturday, 2 limited speaking English individuals showed up in a beat up white van with no credentials to inform me they were here to fix the problem. After 10-15 minutes of waiting to hear back from their boss to confirm who they were, they reviewed the carpet and we set up an installation for the following Saturday. Three days later I received a phone call to inform me they were on their way to install the new carpet and I had to inform them I had already set up up the appointment for Saturday and no one was home. After a few more back n forth phone calls the installer was informed to come back the following Saturday. Saturday comes and once again an individual shows up with no identification on him and tells me he is replacing the entire carpet which was not what I was told on the phone during my several engagements with management. The area that was separated at the seam was eventually replaced but why can't this company get their stuff together. People need to made aware of who is entering their homes nowadays for their safety and the worker's safety. Very displeased with Empire and would never recommend them to anyone. read more

These floors were installed 4-21, by 1-22 there were many issues. Called and they sent a tech, said they would have to pull the whole floor up to replace boards, and to wait until they broke. We had Empire put in indoor carpeting last year and they were great. We needed outside carpeting for our patio and it was a nightmare. The first time they came to install, the salesman had measured incorrectly. The second time they came, they had 4 pieces that they tried to put in (like a puzzle) and also different shades. We had them pull it back up and take it back. They next time they were suppose to come - they didn't show up for scheduled date and never called. When they finally did put it in correctly they scratched the posts (we just had a new roof/porch installed. Would never use or recommend them again. read more

I will never use Empire again. After hearing many horror stories about empire from friends and family I unfortunately decided to give Empire a chance (primarily because they guaranteed installation by Christmas). Working with the sales team was an average experience, however when it came to my installation day the problems began. They first gave me an installation window of 8a-6p on December 15th, but assured me I would get a smaller window the morning of my installation. After I didn't hear from them the morning of the supposed installation I decided to call and inquire.. I was then told that they moved my installation from December 15th to January 11th. They told me it was because I never confirmed my appointment. This is completely inaccurate. I received a voicemail at 3:31p the Thursday before 12/10/20 and I called back and spoke with a woman to confirm my appointment at 3:34p at the number left on my voicemail (I have my call history to prove it). So after tearing my house apart in preparation for the carpet install I tried to work with Empire to come up with a reasonable solution, however every representative that I spoke with was less than concerned about my situation (if not outright rude). I asked for a refund of my deposit so that I could go elsewhere and hopefully still have new floors for Christmas but was told that Empire isn't required to refund my deposit because the installation date isn't included in the contract. After going back and reading the fine print of their contract I realized just how dishonest and sneaky Empire truly is. Do yourself a favor and avoid Empire Today at all costs! read more

I had them come out to estimate paid some- they came out Monday before even walking into the door Carlos?? and the women were asking for pay before even starting anything.. should have waited . 10 minutes into the job he informed me the job could not be done after destroying my house with stables and padding . Our incredibly time sensitive installation was cancelled the morning of due to someone having a baby... Congrats and all but why would you schedule someone who was likely going to be out for a time sensitive install. Carpet installers showed up on the rescheduled date and asked for more money ( we already paid) Calls and texts to our useless sales rep have gone unanswered. He made his sale and walked away. In September we had someone come out to help us pick out linoleum for the kitchen and one bathroom. We scheduled our appointment (two weeks out) and paid our deposit. The day of our appointment, after we'd taken the day off and moved everything out of our kitchen, they call at 8am to say the linoleum has not come in and they won't be coming. They won't let my father in law reschedule (it's his house and he paid, but I set up the appointment and put him on the account, but they said only the 'primary' account holder can do anything? Awful if you're married) so I had to call and reschedule. It would be another two weeks, and for those weeks everything we had sat in the living room because it was so much work to move it. Empire did give us a discount at this point when we were thinking of canceling. Two weeks go by, the day comes, we take it off. Nobody shows up. Nobody calls. I call and speak with Mike, who says that the linoleum we ordered is not ever coming in. He can't tell me why nobody called. He schedules someone to come out to our house the next day to pick out linoleum. Next day comes, managed to free up the day. Nobody comes. I try to call Mike and he's suddenly no longer available when I call. I used to get him immediately, but now he's always in a meeting. I wait ten mins on hold to get in touch with someone, and spend another fifteen waiting for Mike. I call back, wait ten mins, and then speak with someone else. They want me to wait around all day for their callback. I check their hours and since they'll be around I ask them to call back after seven because I had things to do. Nobody calls. At this point I'm not even surprised, though I did wait up just in case even though I was exhausted. This morning we called them again, and apparently they cancelled the order without letting us know. I guess they just didn't want to deal with their own mess anymore. Think twice before you sign with Empire! We signed a contract several weeks ago. I paid $750 at the time. I worked for a solid week and paid two men $100 to pack up our collectibles and glassware. Everything was stacked in my office. On the morning of the installation, a manager called to say they couldn't be there that day and would put us first the next morning. The next day the installers called and told us it would be that afternoon. I inspected the carpet when they arrived and took the installers through the apartment. They said there would be no problem, and since my wife and I would be sitting outside, they would call with any problems. After two and a half hours, the manager called to say they would not install the carpeting because there was too much furniture in the rooms. The estimator had examined all the rooms - as had the crew when they arrived. I came upstairs to find them - they were long gone, and had left the apartment door open, even though I had reminded them to close it after they brought the carpet in. They had also begun to rip up the old carpet in the living room - and left it there! I made seven calls to Empire over the next two days, and finally got a call from the manager the next night. He told me they could not install my carpet unless I moved our furniture to storage!!! Another company is coming tomorrow morning to begin the process again. I was very displeased with the way the crew dealt with the situation, and the non-responsiveness of the main office. Our apartment is a mess - has been for a week - and we are very unhappy. I am expecting my deposit to be returned, and would like some compensation for our inconvenience and the way the apartment was left without the crew contacting me. Think twice! read more

Only text responses from one salesman. A construction manager who made fun of me over the phone on the day of the first attempt at installation when I asked for some type of compensation. BECAUSE they require someone to be there full time while they are installing. The difference between 1 day of PTO and 5 is huge.
