We have had solar panels installed for over a decade (since Superstorm Sandy.) Had a maintenance check and our techs Alex and Antonio were amazing. Very polite and professional! They helped us bring down a squirrel's nest humanely and happy to say the mother squirrel has relocated the babies. I'm so glad I called Empower and these techs were sent. Before Empower, my highest electric bill was $356...after Empower I am consistently paying well over $450/ month and am constantly restricting my usage in the home so as not to over use from the grid. I reached out and spoke to a representative 3 months ago and have yet to hear back. We just want to know if there is something faulty with our system. We had absolutely no guidance on how to use the Tesla app and how to monitor the system....this is by far the worst and most costly decision of my adult life. Due to an unfortunate series of events, the contract for rooftop solar never got started. Their Dir. of Customer Experience acknowledged in voicemail and email that a refund was due under their contract. Amount of refund should have been $4,258. However, Empower management never responded to me emails and letters. They didn't argue that the refund was not due...just didn't respond. That's not the way a reputable firm with any integrity should treat their clients. I'm disappointed and upset. read more

Amazing Sunpower panels, world class service and outstanding experience. We initially installed 43 panels a year ago (1/2021) and then added an additional 12 panels several months later. We have generated so much energy and the savings keep coming. Kyle Solomon is the reason we started with Empower, and keep recommending it to our friends. Kyle was professional, knowledgeable and knew the product inside out. He was patient with all our detailed questions and provided much assurance that this investment was worth it. He was able to calculate the numbers and articulate the entire process in a way that anyone could understand. We never felt rushed or pressured when we talked to Kyle. He was extremely professional and we couldn't have ask for a better Sales Professional. Byron was extremely efficient and patient with us as well. He gave us systematic updates every 2 weeks and we felt he guided and hand-held us through the entire installation process. He got our plans approved by the DOB so expediently and our panels installed in such a short timeline. Byron then coordinated with Jared (who came to install). We then had Alexandra coordinate our 12 add-on panels; again Jared came to install. I wanted to thank you Empower and the staff we've dealt with for all the help they've provided from start to finish. There are a lot of solar companies out there and you guys made the experience as comfortable and reassuring as possible. And you were mindful with our request to get it installed ASAP. IF YOU'RE GOING TO INSTALL SOLAR PANELS- GET THEM ALL INSTALLED IN ONE SHOT. DON'T UNDERSHOOT THE NUMBER AND ADD PANELS LATER. The only criticism I can give is that when they came to install the additional 12 panels-- they put too many panels on 1 string so the breaker kept going off-- leaving us with days to weeks without production on multiple panels. It took 6 site visits over 3 months (May-July 2021) to trouble shoot out which string was overloaded and to fix the problem. Overall, we felt not only did we get the most reliable solar panels in the market; the buying/installing experience was equal in caliber to the reputation of the solar panels. After months of delay, Empower tried to install 7 solar panels on our newly gut-renovated Brooklyn townhouse. The technician clearly did not know what he was doing. In order to make room on the electrical panel in the basement for the hook-up, he combined several wires haphazardly into the same breakers. Before my eyes, the entire panel box started to smoke. Rather than shut off the main electrical switch, the technician ran out of the basement and called the fire department. The fire that resulted from his error, along with the damage caused by the fire department's water hoses and pick-axes, completely destroyed our basement and some of our ground floor. This was a new renovation with an entirely new, upgraded 200amp electrical system and panelboard, and we had just moved in. I understand that mistakes happen. But Empower's consistent refusal to acknowledge any wrongdoing and to compensate us in any way for the damage to our new house, for the insurance deductible, for the cost of rewiring the basement, for the cost of reinstalling a security system, and for the inconvenience that they caused us three days before Christmas is inexcusable. I should say that even when our system was hooked up a month later (we needed to install from our own pocket a second breaker box for Empower to use), they forgot to submit the paper work for the property tax break, so I have yet to receive that. What is more, for the two years that we've had the system, our panels have produced less than half the kWh predicted for us. As it is, I am paying considerably more each month for the loan than I make. Do not use. read more

Even though, I worked with these folks in the middle of the pandemic, the process was quick and easy. We did have to wait a while, like the rest of the world, for building materials and such to show up. However, installation was quick, the system looks good (as much as a solar system can look good), and their communication was consistent and clear. Probably the thing I'm happiest with is that they underpromised and overdelivered. Since the system went active in March, my electric bill is even less than they said it would be (my last bill was $0 (plus administrative fees that ConEd slaps on) in the middle of a heat wave). Their paperwork said I'd have an ROI in about 6 years, but if this keeps up, according to my Excel, that'll be about 2 years (depending on how the winter goes with less sun and greater strain on my heating elements). This is even more notable as we moved nearly everything onto our electric: my car is a 100% plug in, we converted the heat and water to electric mini-splits and an electric water heater, respectively. Our experience with EmPower Solar was incredibly disappointing. It started out great... but in the back of my head, I was weary of why NO ONE else in our area uses them.... Now we know why. 4 years later, we have no solar, they broke our contract, and most likely we won't be able to get solar. They did return our money - hence the 2 stars, instead of 1 -- but only after holding over $13K for 4 years, dragging their feet, and then literally breaching our contract by saying they can no longer honor the price they were contractually obligated to honor. But by this point, we just wanted our money back anyway... I'm happy to elaborate if anyone is interested... I'm just so disappointed. We were very excited for solar - even if we wouldn't have reaped the financial benefit. We thought it was worth it. Just so I'm not misleading - 1 of those years was delayed because of Covid (which I acknowledge is not their fault) - but the other 3 certainly were. And the worst is that 3 years ago, we had another contract in place for essentially the same price with a very prominent company in our neighborhood -- and now it'll probably be significantly more expensive. So thanks to Empower, not only are we screwed out of solar - but the world lost one more opportunity at a small piece of renewable energy. read more

Been with empower for about 2 years and not fully happy about it. The micro inverters keep failing quite often. They wont actively monitor and when I start getting bills from PSEG I have to call them. While they come and fix it, they do not reimburse for the loss and they always say they raised a case with sunpower and it never gets resolved in my favor. So its as good as useless. They never told me that storms can cause solar to stop generating. When Isais happened my system did not generate for 6 months and I was using up my solar credits and then entire winter I had PSEG bills every month. Now 7 or 8 microinverters failed and I have PSEG bills for June and July (peak summer months). They sent me a bill for $343 for repair, pending approval from sunpower. So essentially empower never takes direct responsibility for this install and are just middlemen. Just not very happy about this purchase. read more

I was absolutely amazed the great service, outstanding knowledge and great work that empower did for me and my family. My PSEG bill went down from 300s to $10 per month. I shopped around for a few months getting feedback from various companies and then spoke with Corey @ EmPower. He helped us through the entire process and answered all the questions that i had been skeptical with from other companies. He had an answer for every question i had (did extensive research). He broke down the expenses and provided us with the savings and timeline. From the system that we have, we will be getting 108% return. I am also getting a substantial tax credit and an amazing 18 month no interest loan as well. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Avoid EmPower Solar and save yourself extreme frustration and please go with another company. Prepare to be treated like a transaction with ZERO customer service. If I can give less than a 1-star rating I would. The last 5 months of signing on with EmPower has been a tremendous disappointment and mentally draining. As a customer/client I wouldn't want this experience for anyone but I have reached a breaking point where I can no longer feel confident EmPower will deliver on what was promised in the original contract agreement. I was never told upfront that this may be a 6-month process. I had a number of other highly qualified vendors that I was considering and decided to take a leap of faith and signed on with EmPower expecting professional service and the project being completed in a timely manner. My family made a $40K commitment that has now extended into a 5-month process from hell. I am made to feel like I am held captive to supply chain delays with no clear ETA for parts delivery. I have been patient and willing to be empathetic with supply chain issues but receiving an email on 10/11/2022 from the Sr. Project Manager - Alexandra Buckley informing me that we were still 2-3 weeks out on the supply of M425's and for me to consider a change to M420's with less efficiency was too much for me to take. Sadly, I am no longer excited about going solar powered for my residential needs. I will NOT recommend EmPower to anyone I know. If I cannot get the materials agreed upon in our original contact M425's within the next 2-3 weeks and installation begins I am no longer interested in continuing with my contractual agreement with EmPower. Since the events in this review, Empower conducted a review of the situation. They recognized that their customer service employees could have handled the situation better and identified Solar Edge's lackluster fulfillment of the warranty as the root of the problem. While I accept that Empower will work to improve its customer service and I accept that much of the blame belongs with Solar Edge, I cannot give 4 or 5 stars as this is a problem capable of repeating itself as long as Solar Edge is involved. Do now use EmPower solar. I used EmPower for my solar panels 11 yrs ago and everything was good until I needed to put a new roof. What I paid for roof was almost the same that paid to Empower to remove and reinstall the panels. After that the system constantly shows that I am producing 0 energy. I was reaching out to EmPower on multiple occasions and yesterday I got my answer, since it's been over 10 yrs post installation and I can't prove it worked before I put new roof ( it did), now I have to pay to have it fixed. read more

I moved into my new house after Hurricane Sandy destroyed my old one. Soon after moving in 2015 we began interviews for solar. We took our time as our accountant wanted us to wait until we were here over a year to see our bills and of course things come up along the way. During that time I had many companies come while I investigated panel types and as much as I could learn. None of the companies I interviewed to the point of a roof evaluation told me I needed a new roof with exception to EmPower. I ended up having many roofers come and my roof was in terrible shape. All the other companies were willing to install even though in the end I would have had to have them come and remove, store and reinstall out of my pocket. That being said besides that Corey our salesman went above and beyond every step of the way. He came to my home more then once and spent so much time with us. He answered every call, email and questions I had. Through all our decisions he was patient and professional and honest with us. The financing portion of this was also helpful and transparent and as easy as one could expect. Our project manager Byron at the next stages through install as well as the crew that was here were amazing. You wouldn't have known we had men on our roof because they were impeccably clean and courteous and did a fantastic. As for performance of my panels I can't say enough for this. Just had my solar installed yesterday! After a year of research and quotes from companies, reviews, systems, material, panels used I finally decided on EmPower. Boy did my research payoff. Corey the salesman explained everything from the types of panels to the options. He didn't waste my time by trying to push me in a direction I wasn't interested. He was knowledgeable and helped me come up with a plan that fit best for what my wants and needs were. Then it moved to Byron my project manager. He was there to explain where we were in the process and ensure it all was taken care of. Corey was still checking in throughout the process. Install day came. They did a great job and it looks perfect/sleek. They explained what they were doing throughout the process and how it all works together. My solar was installed last week. First a short boring description of how I ended up with EmPower (and so glad I did)! I did a lot of searching for solar companies. I almost signed with one company but after investigating that company, I saw a warning from the BBB (the Better Business Bureau) warning consumers that the particular company I was researching failed to respond to informational requests. That being said, I started over again. After a lot of research, I found Empower Solar. I tried hard but could not find anything negative about them. In fact, all I saw were glowing reviews. I researched their product (SunPower panels) and found that was one of the two top rated power producing panels in the industry. I spoke to their agent, Matt Brill, who was informative, returned calls right away, and suffered through my incessant questions. We finally agreed upon a price and design that was acceptable to both of us and we moved ahead. Empower Solar put me in touch with the financial institution --which was top-notch in my dealings with them-- and having obtained the funds, the project moved ahead. Empower obtained the PSEG and Town permits. Their project manager, Dylan Rolleri, was always available by phone to answer my questions, and kept me updated on every phase of the project by text, email, and phone. Empower then sent a team to install the panels and do the electrical work on the days they promised. It was a two-day install. Their foreman, Mike Conforti, headed up a team of workman. Their work was professional, clean, neat, and they were responsive to any questions that I had as I hovered over them (which probably slowed them down)! On the 2nd and last day, Mike walked me through every step of what I needed to know, and turned the power on. I have been ecstatic! Great job, great company, excellent response time to the customer (me), and although it is winter and the sun is not out much, I am already seeing the panels producing well over 200% of the energy that I am using! I've been "hooked up" with Empower since late August. My "normal" PSEG bill was over $300 a month with a budget payment that only knew one way to go - UP! My Sept, Oct and Nov bills were $17, $11 and $51, the latter with all the cloudy/rainy days. Can't wait 'til I get a year under my belt - I'll be paying practically nothing. Salesman Ed O'Brien was the absolute best to deal with. The independent electrical inspector told me EMPOWER always goes well above and beyond what is required by code. I stalk yelp reviews for one meal, so you can imagine how much research I did prior to going solar and furthermore, choosing Empower. Empower was the second of three top Long Island companies we "interviewed" and Matt Brill killed it. Matt's knowledge, passion and ultimately his product blew his competitors away. I could go into some of the specifics as to why we chose Empower . . . a mini inverter on each solar panel as opposed to one for the entire system, the ability to source over 100% of our energy from solar (dependent on sunny skies) or the mere fact that they also presented our most cost-efficient, up-front and honest financial offer . . . but I'll leave the details to Matt. They make the process as easy as pie (mmmm pie). Once you sign the documents electronically (sent to you via email), they get all of the permits with the town and then install the equipment with you only having to be home for a brief period to give them access to hook up to WiFi. The installers were amazing as well, got it all done within 2 days and didn't even interrupt our little one's naps! Magic. I will also say that I waited to write this review until after we've had a few major rain and snow storms to see how we'd make out and so far so good! I can say look no further but if you're anything like me, reading this review is just a small piece of the pie (ummm am I craving pie?!). Exra energy that is generated reimbursed to us with a nice check once a year by ConEd. I only pay maintenence to ConEd which is less then $10 a month. I am very happy that with help of EmPower solar I helped to save earth from pollusion and saved trees.
