After seeing some of her work, I got my brows microbladed here. Before doing so, I specifically asked if she could fix the fact that one brow was slightly higher than the other and she was confident she could. My brows were so thick and uneven.. they looked like caterpillar rainbows! I contacted her several times, but I was completely ignored. Of course I was upset after spending a few hundred and having something semi permanent on my FACE, but I was more concerned about fixing my brows and I definitely did not want to go back to someone who not only did not care about what I wanted, but was also very unprofessional. Thank GOD I found a true artist to fix my brows and now they are so amazing I get compliments all the time. I didn't want to leave this review, because I know how important reputation is especially for a young, small business owner, but she needs to care more about her clients. This is an update to my original 5 star review I gave 7 months ago. If I could update with no stars I would. First off I need to start by saying Bri is amazing. She does amazing work and I am only discontinuing service with Empress because of Jessica Carbullido, the owner. If Bri had her own business I would still have my lashes done by her. Jessica is the most unprofessional business owner I have ever met. In the last 7 months my appointments have been cancelled and rescheduled a number of times. She is unresponsive and does not have the best interest in her clients. So let's talk about my last experience with Jessica..... I made an appointment for Friday Sept 22 through their online scheduling app and paid the $90 for my appointment upfront. (You have to pay before your service when booking the appointment). I showed up on time for my appointment and after waiting for 15 min I text the appointment number (because there is no way of reaching either of them) and said I was there but the door was locked. I got a call from an unknown number and it was Jessica saying that she never got my appointment and neither her or Bri was available at that time. I told her I got my confirmation email and the $90 was already withdrawn. Jessica said I could go to her apartment to get them done early the next morning and she would refund me $50 for the inconvenience. I agreed. At the end of my appointment the next morning on September 23rd I asked about the $50. She said she would refund it through their payment manager and I said okay and gave her a cash tip. A few days go by and I hear nothing, I sent her a text and never got a response. Text her the day after that and still didn't get a response. Then again sent her one a few days after that and still got no response! Screen shots are provided. I then messaged her personally on Facebook and finally got a reply! She said she would rather it go towards my next appointment... HA! Yeah right. So you want me to booo an appointment where I have to pre pay the $90 all over again? No thanks. She said she could Venmo it to me, I said that would be fine but still today I have not gotten the $50. I sent her another message and still no response. Worst place to ever get your training from. Jessica herself is a perfect example of what not to do when you're a trainer and/or professional. Wished I could have gotten my whole course refunded and the money I spent to stay in Tacoma for 2 days! She claimed to be sick that day, but of course she was so money hungry that she still taught the course but with the worst attitude possible. And she was wrapped up in a blanket the whole time sitting on a chair and talking from afar. Sad thing is I didn't learn anything about lashes, but I definitely learn not to be like her. read more

Jessica is absolutely amazing at what she does. I have previously had a single set of lashes done by a "artist" who destroyed my lashes. Using both lashes and glue that aren't used by educated and up to date technicians (so I found out). I came to Jessica with dread locks in my eyelashes. She carefully and painstakingly removed the lashes and preserved as much of my natural lashes as she could which where now one Third their normal length. Even through that horror she had me laughing. She then placed the most beautiful set of volume lashes. So soft and fluffy!!! I will never see another lash boutique again! Her studio was clean, well decorated and comfortable. I am addicted to her work! She's amazing at what she does and she's a Professional! I referred a couple of my girlfriends to her and one of them just had hers done. They look absolutely beautiful and I love how Jessica has the ability to customize each lash set to fit each individuals eye.The way she frames them around my eye and blends them with my own lashes creates a very natural look. I love how my lashes have also survived many showers, swimming, etc. And I really love not needing mascara and not having to remove mascara at the end of the day. I took a lash training class here and from the start it was a train wreck. Trying to sign up for the class was like pulling teeth. The class was rescheduled once due to illness (totally happens), so I was rescheduled for the following month. I arrived and the class was already off to an hour late start. We began training, which was very unorganized, and took a lunch break, which the instructor was almost an hour late back to. The kits you are supposed to receive the day of class weren't available because of a shipping mixup (again, it happens), so the instructor said she would meet up to get the kits to us by Wednesday (the class was on Sunday). I tried reaching out to her later in the week with no response. I was finally able to get in contact with her the following week and she said she would meet me that Friday. She rescheduled the day she was supposed to meet. She quit replying and it's been almost a month after the class and I still have no kit, which I paid for. The instructor/owner is impossible to get a hold of and extremely unprofessional. I would NOT recommend this company for training unless you want to have your money taken with little to show for it. **Update** she offered to refund me for my kit I never received as long as I removed my negative reviews. I have also since been contacted by other students who took her course after me and also didn't receive a kit. read more

I've waited to post this review because I did not want to post one out of anger so I've waited and I am still as upset as I am the day I made the mistake of scheduling an appointment with Empress Beauty Bar. I scheduled my appointment in the morning for that afternoon at 2pm. When I arrived at the salon, the door was locked, lights off. I called their number to find out if anyone was showing up but none of the 3 numbers I was able to track down worked. On their website it states that the card provided will not be charged until you receive the service but to my surprise my card was charged right at my scheduled time. I waited around for over an hour giving them the benefit of the doubt. I spent this hour emailing them, tracking down all their social media platforms and messaging them on there finding out what was going on. After FINALLY getting a response over 2 hours after my appointment was supposed to take place I was told that there was a miscommunication and they thought the appointment was scheduled for 5pm. I told them I could not make it then but was still interested in giving them a chance to make it up. (I wish I would have just taken my money and ran). But I came back the next morning at 10am like asked, again no one was at the salon. At this point I began to think I was being scammed. But I messaged on Facebook again and was told another miscommunication occurred and someone would be there shortly. An hour later the "owner" Jessica arrived to provide me the service. After receiving my full set I was told that I would be given a free fill due to all the trouble. I would never go back to this place to spend money but I figured why not if I'm offered a freebie for all the trouble, but I can't say that I'm not surprised I have not ever received a response back to my multiple attempts to schedule. I have since found a new salon that I am extremely pleased with. So if I could give this place 0 I would. Very unprofessional and rude. I went for lash extensions and I felt the service was a little strange being it was like 20 degrees below 0 in the lash lounge even with a blanket I was freezing. The lashes were stuck together after my appointment was done and I kid you not within 2 days I had lost almost every lash applied. Doing nothing out of the ordinary. I was very disappointed. I have had lashes many times for years and this was a joke. I contacted the owner over this and was unable to get in to have sex her fix them due to no transportation that specific week. So I reached out to her again explaining and requesting a refund because honestly I felt ripped off and I had not received a service that was acceptable. She ignored me and then finally rudely told me no I could not be refunded despite the lashes lasting 2 days. She would never call me back to speak oever the phone and told me she could only redo the service. I don't want anyone from there touching my eyes at this point. She never got back to me even over a redo appt. So unprofessional and I'm sure there is other people who have had shoddy eyelashes put on. The lash tech also acted completely oblivious and could care less about other services they provide ed and how they worked. She seemed very new to the entire industry and acted annoyed over any small talk. I'm sorry but if you are an esthetician providing a service learn the other services so you can explain correctly to customers. And if they don't train you educate yourself. I was very unimpressed. So despite the consumer rights law regarding services and refunds being within 30 days the manager still denied me my deserves money back. Lashes are a luxury service not a necessity therefore I save up to get them done so this was very upsetting. Beware of this trap. This place is hard to find as well and seemed like it had just opened. Oh and I read the other reviews on yelp....i don't need the owner responding to this at all. She's rude and unprofessional and clearly insults people who speak up about inferior experiences. Sorry but not everyone is going to like you owner. Doesn't mean you have to make yourself look more ridiculous by insulting customers. Remember customers are how you keep your business afloat. I was charged for the appointment after they cancelled on me. I have been going to get my lashes done here off and on (previously known as Eyecandy) for about a year. While I have always been happy with the way my eyelashes turned out, I almost always have had to deal with a last minute scheduling conflict on their end. I typically book my appointments 1-3 weeks out for the first appointment Saturday mornings- so it's not from another appointment running late. This last appointment I had set up for 9:30 Saturday morning, I received a text around 6:45 saying "something came up", and they would like to reschedule to the following day. I answered back within 20 min that yes I could reschedule, but I never heard back. Later that day, I noticed that my card was charged for the service, I sent another text asking for a reschedule or a refund. I waiting to the following day to then give up on the reschedule and just ask how to go about getting my refund. 3 days later, I still havent received any acknowledgment. I understand things happen, but this is a pattern, since it's always something "running 5 min late" or "push the appointment out by an hour" and now to cancel completely and charge for the service.I have attached a few snapshots of our conversations. read more

After desperately needing something to be done to my brows, I stumbled upon Eye Candy Beauty Co.'s Instagram one day and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the before and after photos for the Sleek Brow service. Debating over 3 days, I decided to email Jessica to ask questions about the service, from there I made an appointment. I live in Skyway so driving to Tacoma is a long drive, I sat through an hour of traffic to get there and found the building. (btw...30 minutes prior to my appointment, Jessica gave me a heads up saying she was running behind on schedule, which I appreciated.) I'm not going to lie, it was tricky at first to find it but realized it was in a building along with other businesses. Finally opening the door after calling the floor, I used the elevator (which scared me because it was so old! lol) Right when i walked in, i was greeted by Jessica who was with a client but immediately handed me paperwork to fill out. I waited about half an hr but wasn't agitated because I realized Jessica patiently worked through her client and didn't rush at all. When it was my turn, Jessica made me feel comfortable by having me lay on the service bed, and began asking me questions about what kind of brows i wanted to achieve, if i was allergic to anything, what my skin type was, etc. Her first step was aligning my brows and making sure they were both even, When she stepped away, I took a look at them and was impressed by how precise there were aligned. After aligning them, she began threading my brows. When she got to the bottom of my brows, she offered my hand sanitizer before I needed to assist her in holding my upper brow, which I greatly appreciated!!! After that she began the sculpting gel. Now at this point, you don't feel a thing, all she does is fill in your sparse areas and brush through your brows every once in awhile. When she handed me a mirror, I was shocked. Not that she did a bad job, but since I hadn't had full brows for 2-3 years, i wasn't quite use to the look of them on me. I really appreciated how Jessica TOOK HER TIME with my brows and i didn't felt she rushed the service. She is very relatable and I loved how she played 90's-2000's R&B during the brow service. Former microblading student. Class was mediocre. She was late the first day of class. Other classmate and myself was outside waiting for approximately 30 minutes! Class and materials was very unorganized. She couldnt answer majority's of our question and kept telling us that she will research it but never got back to us with clear answers. Her technique were horrible where she had to show us another artist's work on youtube videos. The kit provided was cheap and basics. Lack of communication when she state that support will also be provided even after trainings. Its been a year and i still havent recieved my certificate which i dont care for because its worthless. I've taken three classes from Jessica at Eye Candy Beauty Co. The classic lash extension coarse, volume lashes, and advanced volume lashes. If she offers continuing education on lashes I will most likely attend more. Whether it's been a classroom setting or one on one Jessica is the best instructor out there. She knows so much about lashes because she actually DOES THE WORK too. I've done research and found way too many instructors out there who just teach to certify but Jessica is passionate about the actual ART of lashes. She keeps up with all the latest trends and products, which is a must in this industry. She values the importance of taking advance classes herself, and has been absolutely amazing at always answering my lash questions weeks after taking a coarse, she continues to instruct outside of her classroom. I have taken both Jessica's classic and volume training courses and she is amazing. Your kit is everything you need to get started and last you quite a few clients, she teaches you many techniques and focuses on her favorites; being from a skilled lash artist for a few years, these techniques she focuses and teaches on I feel are the best. I don't feel as if I need additional training especially because Jessica is so personable and willing to help you when you get out of the class. I've asked her numerous questions on clients that were difficult to do, preference in supplies, or techniques to help me improve. She follows me on my social networks and will text me to let me know what she feels I need to focus on. When I went into my volume training I had been awake since 2:30, I couldn't focus, couldn't get the technique down, and was easily frustrated. She really examined what I did, offered at least three things she noticed I was doing that was interfering with my lash fans, suggested I get different tweezers, and was positive that I was going to do much better with practice. Lashing is not easy, it's tedious and time consuming but she kept reassuring and was very positive towards me. I strongly suggest taking her lash classes. The fact that she will respond to your inquiries about what you may be doing wrong or tips to help you is the best part because not many places will offer that guidance once you've completed the class. I was very disappointed in the volume training that I received on June 5th. First off, she had her children there which were a distraction. She would stop frequently to attend to them. And I'm sorry that's not what I paid for!! We took a lunch and she told us to be back by a certain time and she was late returning! I was upset because the minutes she was late could have been used to actually teach us how to lash. Also, my kit wasn't complete the day of the training. So it took her a week to give me the rest of my kit and certificate, which I should have gotten the day of! It's SUPER hard to get ahold of her none of her three phones work and I feel like that is absolutely unprofessional. I was offered a one on one after I explained I was not happy, when I told her what dates worked for me I never heard back from her again. At this point, I don't even want to take the one on one because it's too much of a hassle to get in contact with her and the products that were in the kit were a joke! The lashes have a blue hue to them when they are supposed to be black and the tweezers don't even grip the lashes properly. Writing this as a potential student. The owner missed my first call but she did call back the following business day; I missed it as I was working. She left a voicemail explaining that she had received my voicemail from the day before and to call back or just text her my e-mail address so she could get the classic lash info to me. I texted her TWICE (I figured a text would be more accurate for her to have the correct spelling of my email address), she never replied to the texts nor did she ever email me. A couple of days and calls went by without a conversation ever taking place. Finally, I seen her post on Instagram, so I commented saying it would be my last attempt and to please send me the info...she deleted the comment and never emailed, called or texted me afterwards. Not even a direct message. I guess business is booming and she couldn't find time between Instagram posts to simply send an email or text? I don't know. What I do know is her lack of basic communication assured me she didn't need my business as far as being her pupil. read more

It just takes one horrible experience to never come back to a place. I've had lash extensions for over 6 years with multiple lash techs & never had an experience like I had at Empress before. Bri glued both of my eye lids shut, then used tweezers to separate each lash glued on my skin. As the tweezers were grazing across my cornea, tears were running down my face uncontrollably. I braced myself because I had to wait for her to finish both eyes for me to see. When she was done - both eyes were blood shot red. Jessica & Bri both said the redness would go away in a couple hours. Try 4 weeks! It took one whole month & 2 eye appointments to clear my eyes and preserve my vision! Empress Beauty Bar never offered to fix my lashes, nor did they ever offer a refund or a complimentary fill at the very least. I had to pay for medical bills after my fill here, & they never once bother to follow up with me. Despite the fact that I kept showing them pictures of my eyes; they didn't show any remorse or sympathy. Terrible customer service on top of terrible service. Don't waste your time here. read more

Being from out of town, I was looking for a lash place around the area of Tacoma that could repair my eyelash extensions from damage done from a previous artist. I came across Eye Candy Beauty Co. during my internet search, and I found Jessica's website and portfolio very professional and well - organized. It was very easy to contact her and set up an appointment through her online scheduler. Her place is located in downtown Tacoma, and she was very professional and welcoming the minute we walked into the door. My lashes look amazing! Her lashes feel so light, yet have a good curl. I just finished my Microblading course with Jessica from the Empress Beauty Bar on Sunday and first of all I have to say, she is incredibly sweet and very knowledgeable in her trade. She obviously has a lot experience and training in Microblading and is eager to share her knowledge with you. She has a teaching style that is direct but kind and makes you feel incredibly comfortable in the learning process. I appreciated that she really saw Microblading as an art form and came from a place of that with her training, allowing me to be creative and find my own flow with it. I loved that she also expressed understanding different learning styles and was able to change the way she taught in order for me to understand to the best of my ability. Jessica does a great job at eye lash extensions. NOT great at customer service!!! I came in a year ago and asked for for lashes that were short, but with more volume. When I looked in the mirror after she had applied them, they were quite sparse, and they were longer than I wanted. I commented this to her. This summer I came in and asked for a volume set of 8-9's. She applied 10's, as she said I had complained that the previous year's application hardly showed, and she didn't want me to complain again. The new set was wonderfully voluminous, but longer than I wanted. I came in for 2 fills, at the end of the second one, she told me she was going on vacation for a couple of weeks and advised me to go online to book a short fill appointment prior to her leaving. I went home, and found no openings in her scheduling program, though I did put myself on the waiting list. No response. I called to ask about this, leaving a message. No response. I sent an email directly to her through the online booking site. No response. I text messaged her phone, twice. No response. I left a voicemail. No response. Finally...she sent me a message, stating that she had just had surgery and was trying to recover. Even if she had had surgery, rather than the vacation she told me she was going on; a simple answer through online booking company, phone, text, email, or Facebook, to let me know what was going on, would have been BASIC COMMON COURTESY TO A CLIENT!! read more
