This is the one place I look forward to visiting every year. As long as they stay open, I will be coming back every year, as often as I can. It's that kind of place for me, my family and my friends. The hosts Steve and Jill are top-notch. They treat you like family and are always working to ensure our stay is as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. The lodge is special, filled with history, art, fish and relics of the north woods. It truly is a treat to hang out at the bar enjoying the view of the beautiful lake the property sits on. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the amenities are fantastic. The lake is incredible, it rarely has any boating activity. The water is clear and clean for swimming, kayaking and fishing. The fishing in this lake is absolutely incredible. I cannot say enough good things about staying here and I look forward to getting back out there in the Spring. It's going to be a long winter!! read more

My husband and I stayed at The Enchanted Loon Inn for our anniversary get away weekend. To say we enjoyed our stay would be an understatement. What a great time!! It was our third visit and we already have our next visit scheduled for later this year. Jill and Steve are so friendly and treat us like family. They always have excellent recommendations for restaurants and entertainment. Every night we sat at the bar and chatted and laughed until late into the night. The Enchanted Loon Inn is one our favorite spots to relax and fish. The lake has amazing fishing. Tons of muskies if that's what you're looking for. The bass fishing is outstanding too. In the Enchanted Loon Inn (formerly Mockesair Lodge) Jill and Steve have created a vacation destination that will appeal to the desires of everyone vacationing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The Lodge's history goes back to the 1919 era. Significantly modernized by Jill and Steve, Enchanted Loon is a slice of the early 1900's vacation lifestyle with all of the comforts of home. My parents discovered Mockesair Lodge in the 1950's and I have been traveling there ever since. A fisherman? Bass, Walleye and Muskie are plentiful in 90-acre Moccasin Lake. In this lightly fished lake there are some truly huge fish looking for a meal. At 90-acres, it is not "work" just trying to find the fish. There are several weed lines, drop offs and sand bars that are known to hold fish. The shallow side bays are great fishing in the early morning or evening. Or just fish the abundant downed lumber along the shorelines like "Kayak Mike". Swimming and sun bathing from the main dock offers a pleasant break from the midday heat.Or use one of the many provided people-powered water craft to traverse the lake. The actual Loons may approach with their young to check out why humans need such strange contraptions to swim the lake. Or use the lodge as a base camp for exploring the Northwoods and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Nicolet National Forest and Porcupine Mountains State Park are nearby. And the waterfalls! At least a dozen first class falls are within an hour or two of the lodge. While a continental breakfast is served daily at the lodge, the Land O' Lakes area offers many dining opportunities for lunch and supper. That's why you need to hike and paddle so much. read more

I'm not one for reviews; however I read reviews before I stayed here and was more than pleasantly surprised to find the owners, Steve and Jill to be beyond hospitable. The house was full of guests visibly from other states, and the bar was buzzing. The rooms are quaint, each with its own vibe, and more importantly there is the sweet Aurora yellow lab, who is more than happy to show you Moccasin Lake. The fishing is awesome, if you like fishing for Muskie...this is your place! The owners have fishing boats to rent, kayaks, and a paddle board to tool-around the lake with, and if Aurora follows you to the lake...you can say "fish" and she'll jump off the pier for you! All in all, this is an awesome place to stay if you're planning on visiting the Northwoods of Wisconsin! Centrally located to lots of fun, and adventurous activities! read more

Love the rustic charm and Steve and Jill are wonderful hosts. The included breakfast and coffee are a great start to the morning before floating in the lake to relax. The loons' calls are so wonderful to hear as you look into the clean lake's reflection. My family and I have been coming here for 5 years and have always enjoyed Steve's singing accompanied with his guitar, time in front of a bon fire roasting s'mores and the drinks at the bar while watching hummingbirds feed while overlooking the lake. read more

We're new to doing reviews and newer to using B&B's. Our small family was introduced to Steve and Jill's home last year through a referral and we returned again this year. The posted positive reviews cover all that is great about this place. It's a pure Northwoods rustic lodge with lots of history and charm. I feel that there's something here for everyone. We don't fish (yet), but we do enjoy the beautiful and tranquil lake, the wildlife (including the eagles, loons, deer, fox, hummingbirds, etc.) and meeting good people. Our teenage daughter and friend even enjoy the lake fun - canoe, kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat and swimming etc. We also enjoy the quiet location with the option to being able to get out an explore. The Enchanted Loon Inn lives up to its self-description in the sense that it truly is a "step back into time." The charm of being a 100-year-old Inn though with an attractive log bar is quickly overshadowed by the dim lighting, creepy décor, thick red and green carpet, and tissue paper thin walls. What truly casts a shadow though, on this Inn with moderate potential, is the Innkeeper herself. I stayed at the Enchanted Loon over two nights for a wedding and throughout my stay there, I heard story after story about negative encounters that other guests and the wedding party had with the Innkeeper Jill. Ridiculous "rules" that were communicated not before booking, but in the middle of the stay with snark, volume, and stubbornness only a true ass could rival, constant unfounded suspicions (bordering on paranoia) of the paying guests, and utter denial of any pre-agreed-upon terms are seemingly this Inn's standard operating procedure. How this business stays afloat will continue to baffle me. How you can fathom that yelling at your guests is good business behavior is beyond me. The crux for me was when I opened my room's door to find the Innkeeper's dog running out of my room and the bed covered in URINE. I found the Innkeeper and told her about the incident, which she denied could even be possible. "Prove it to me" she said. "Are you sure it wasn't a man who did it?" she asked. She continuously repeated how it was simply impossible that it was her dog that peed on my bed and it must have been someone in the wedding party. To say I was appalled and insulted at how she handled the situation would be an understatement, not only because she was suggesting that someone form the wedding had gone into my room and deliberately peed all over the bed or that she insinuated that I was a liar, but also because after I showed her the bed, she put a dirty towel over the massive wet spots and I changed the fitted sheet myself. I didn't think that sharing my true feelings with her would be fruitful, as I had talked to a guest right before this incident, whom she had kicked out of the Inn for smoking, which he had not been doing. When he called her out on the ridiculousness of her accusations, she simply refused to hear reason and kicked him out by yelling at him so loudly the whole town probably heard. To put the nail in the coffin, the next morning we were awoken by her battering down the bedroom door while yelling, "UNLOCK THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW!" for no other reason that her paranoia led her believe that while we had been sleeping we had somehow "locked people out," which was, of course, ludicrous. I must implore you that if you do choose to be an overnight patron at the Enchanted Loon, do not pre-pay. Do not engage with Jill, and do make your stay here as short as possible. read more

Wow! We found them by chance and this place was amazing. A unique classic, furnished with a stuffed bear, a moose head, old beer signs and mounted bass. The Inn is perched above the private Maccasin Lake, and offers kayaks and other boats to guests. Jill was a terrific host, so friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable, and the common space also spacious. Highly recommended as a place to relax, listen to loons, and chill out.. read more

When I am choosing places to stay for vacation, I read through the reviews of previous guests to get the overall feel of the establishment through patrons' eyes to help make my decision of potential places to stay a little easier. At first, I must admit, I was a little weary, but after reading the two latest reviews, I decided to give The Enchanted Loon Inn a chance and went ahead booking my week long vacation in one of their cozy B&B rooms! Upon arrival, I was instantly greeted by the owners, Steve and Jill, who were nothing less than welcoming and friendly as they showed me to my room upstairs. My room was very clean, and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the lake as well. After I was settled in, I went down to check out the rest of the place and wow was I impressed! The welcoming rustic interior was everything I had hoped to see in a log cabin B&B and more. From the paintings, to the collectables in the bar area, this place truly had won me over! Over my week stay, I spent the majority of my time relaxing down by the crystal clear lake using the paddle boat that the owners graciously said I could use; it was my first time taking out a paddle boat and I had a great time exploring the lake on it! Even got to see two loons! In the evenings, I took pleasure in sitting at the rustic bar chatting with other seasoned guests and the owners while enjoying a cold drink. Could not have been any more relaxing. All in all, my experience with Steve, Jill, and The Enchanted Loon was amazing. Their hospitality made me feel right at home, and I could not have been happier that I chose to stay with them for my first time in the northwoods. I will definitely be bringing my business back to them next summer! read more
