Departing the area after a week of vacation with family, and made a stop at the Pine Cone Cafe. Service was super (thank you, Zoe!) and breakfast was delicious. Members of our large party enjoyed omelettes, skillets, classic breakfasts, and pancakes. While the cafe was very busy, our coffee cups and water glasses were kept full and people working there were cheerful and efficient. Excellent experience. Will most definitely return. read more

So, if you're from out of town or a resident, this is a great place to patronize here in LOLA. Especially for breakfast. The place is clean, and food service is prompt and accurate. Now, as for the waitstaff, my husband and I went on Valentine's Day for breakfast, and the ladies were phenomenal. I think the one lady was the owner and would come by our table asking (along with the waitress) if we needed anything, never letting our drinks hit the bottom. Now I don't know about you but for me, that's a big A+! I definitely would go back, especially to try their famous chicken and dumplings. Very clean and cute cafe. We had a great waitress. Husband loved the Mexican skillet (worked in Mexico many years and was so excited for chorizo) and the coffee was good and refilled regularly. The Texas French toast, however, was not good. Not soaked long enough and was dry and flavorless. I used way more butter/syrup than I would normally want to at least be able to eat it. Visiting Land O' Lakes for a family funeral and had breakfast at the PineCone two days in a row. First, not sure about the management change but this place was friendly and accommodating. It is bright on the inside with new ceiling tiles, the rug/floor is in great shape, booths are bright, and the entire place is remarkably clean for a cafe/restaurant. I guess if you look hard enough, you'll find something to complain about but this place was nearly spotless. Food was hot, good, and delivered fast. Wait staff was friendly, engaging, and around frequently to fill up the coffee cup. I will say that the coffee wasn't the best I've ever had but it wasn't bad. A bit bitter both days but at least it wasn't weak! Both days I had a very filling breakfast for around $11-$12 for everything. Thankfully, no one gives a crap about the damn masks and everyone is living their life as they should. The mask fanatics just need to stay the hell home if they are that worried and want to cry about it. This is an AMERICAN CAFE. They have pride in the country, believe in the Pledge of Allegiance, respect our military/veterans, and are proud enough to voice all of that loud and clear through their decor. Big shout out for that. The signs on the wall are amusing and gives you something to look at and chuckle about as your meal is being prepared. read more

I have been coming to Land O Lakes for many years. Prior to the new owners, the servers weren't very friendly and the coffee was terrible. With the new owners, the upgrade to the coffee is a terrific improvement. The wait staff is prompt and friendly. Very attentive. The new selections on the menu are great. Loved the smoked sausage skillet. My daughter had the biscuits and gravy and was head over heals about it. My husband was happy to see the addition of the farmers steak and eggs. He loves his angus burger and eggs and it was cooked perfect. We return for one of their new buckets of chicken. It was incredible. Best fried chicken I've had in a long time...and not available anywhere else in the North woods. Thanks for adding this to your already awesome menu. Definitely stop by the Pine Cone Cafe. read more

French toast was still raw in the middle. Waitress didn't record my entire order of French toast and sausage links so when I asked where my sausage links where when my toast was delivered she promptly picked up the receipt and said "well it's not on the receipt". I was at a table of three other people and they confirmed I did order the sausage and it eventually came and it was on another tables service tray with a different waitress and was delivered when we told her I was waiting on sausage and we had all finished our food already. The other people I was with 1 had ordered a "steak" which was just a burger formed into a steak shape. And another ordered pancakes which he couldn't finish because they tasted "off". After snowshoeing Bond Falls, what we needed was hot cocoa, hot coffee, hot tea, and hot food! C. and my family went here for lunch Dec. 27, and it was the perfect place. Formerly Leif's, the diner stops serving lunch at 2 p.m. on weekdays, and we made it just under the wire. The cocoa was basic and creamy. And my Denver omelette, even though all the goodies were just tucked in the fold, not mixed in the egg, was wonderful. C. got a rib eye steak sandwich, which was just what the doctor ordered. Mom got a Philly cheesesteak, which was tasty. And everyone else seemed pleased with their choices. A great little northwoods restaurant. Nothing fancy, but filling and fundamental. read more

The Pine Cone is a cute family run diner in the heart of Land O' Lakes. Donna, the owner, is a lovely woman with a cheery disposition and kind words for anyone who comes in to the diner. She is a hands-on owner/operator who took over an already popular restaurant several years ago and faced a demanding breakfast/lunch crowd of locals who knew what they liked and didn't like. With family at her side, Donna and sons Steven and Chris provide the town of Land O' Lakes with breakfast and lunch every day except Tuesday. The menu is quite large. The 'Specials' change with the seasons. The food is home cooked quality and plentiful. Regardless what you order, if you manage to leave hungry, its your own fault. Once you enter the diner, you are greeted by at least one server and offered a table or booth of your liking. Coffee is high quality and plentiful. For one price you will enjoy a never ending supply. Tea is also never ending for the one price regardless of how many bags you end up enjoying. They even have a breakfast challenge for those who think they can eat more than most. Its huge, but its also free if you finish within the time frame. The Pine Cone is small but its well organized. It's also the only restaurant around who serves breakfast. So, when in the area, I would highly recommend visiting Donna and her boys. A cup of coffee, a plate of eggs or whatever you fancy and you'll he hooked like I was. This place is the perfect breakfast spot up north. Granted it's very small and can get clustery in the place. The wait for a table and the wait for your food are well worth it when your food arrives. The service is very friendly although it's sometimies slow, something they simply can't help with the space / popularity. The food is spectacular and they have a great variety of breakfast food from skillets to omlettes, to chicken fried steak, to french toast/pancakes, etc. Sometimes patience is a good thing. All in all- solid food and the best breakfast is the best in the area unless someone can prove me wrong of course...! PS. Pine Cone was always our 1st stop in Land O Lakes after a long trip to deer camp from California. We have been going there since 2001 when it was Leifs and then to the Pine Cone. It had the Norman Rockwell feel and the service was always as good as what you would expect from a small hometown "welcome home" feel. Under new ownership in 2018, we took the whole group of 10 to check it out. I paid for the group and I was double charged because of issues with the machine. Took 10 days to get it back and I was given an attitude about it. Not my fault. 2019, walked in to find all the booths on the left closed because someone decided to paint on a busy weekend. The carpet looked consistent with black mold. Asked for the WiFi and we were told not available anymore. We ordered coffee and an older employee exited from the kitchen, put her hands in her pants, made an adjustment and proceeded to grab the coffee pot and return to cooking in the kitchen. I am not looking for Pink Eye Pancakes. We paid for the coffee we did not drink and left immediately. We will never return. Thank you for the memories read more

I'd give it a 5 but the coffee is weak as can be just like everywhere else in the N.Woods. The best breakfast spot w/in 20miles and usually a competant staff. I don't know why, but most places can't cook eggs properly. This place gets it right most of the time. Sometimes the bacon's undercooked so check that. The fact that Lesley could not get the dumplings in inexcusable! Last Summer I walked in at 10 min. to closing and was turned away. Didn't appreciate it as I am there quite a bit in the season. Operating hours are just that! Lock the door at closing but serve your custumers what they want or they won't be back. read more

Everything for breakfast is great, but you might want to try the eggs Benedict for a special treat. And my current lunchtime favorite is the Ava salad with chicken. In an effort not to base our opinion on rumor and conjecture, We went to the Pine Cone for lunch today. The menu is actually inspired. Several items are creative, and look to be something different. Granted , no mezcal cured gravlax and bagels, but pretty interesting. Sadly, the execution was bad. The french dip was horrid. Aside from a very small portion, the broth tasted "off" and the roll was mushy. The beef was grey and flavorless. The iced tea tasted " musty". I chose their "signature" burger. 3::::3 oz patties, cheese, onion sticks, lettuce and tomato. Again an odd textured roll, the patties were clearly frozen and I am not certian why I was asked how I wanted it cooked. On the way home My wife said" well. We gave it a try. But I see no reason to go back". A new diner will open in town in May: Dawson's Pier. Sadly, hoping Pine Cone gets the message and ups its game. We don't need another closed store front in town. read more
