I really wanted to give this company a good review but am disappointed to only be able to give it 3 stars. When I first brought my car in the staff was excellent, especially Alex who was super friendly and seemed incredibly honest. I was told that they'd look my car over and give me a call that day to give tell me what they thought was wrong; they did and we seemed to be off to a great start, I was glad to finally find a repair shop that could be trusted. They told me they weren't exactly sure what was wrong with it but had an idea and "worst case scenario it will be $2100". I said to go ahead with the work. They finished the car when they said they would, which was great, but then told me that it was going to be over $2350! They did not call at any point during the week that this was going to be the case, they just expected me to throw down an extra $270 at the end. When I hear "worst case scenario" I really expect them to mean it's going to be that price at the very most, and if something comes up I would at least like them to contact me first! I did try to talk them down and we got $30 out of them but when you're paying that much, $30 doesn't make much difference. With that said the work was done well and on time but I walked away not being able to look them in the eye and thank them with sincerity as I felt taken advantage of in the situation. read more

I've been bringing my family's cars here for about 8 years now, and have always been thrilled with the service, quality of repairs, and honesty of everyone here. Peter and Alex always take the time to explain what is wrong, options to fix the problem and suggestions for continuing to maintain the vehicle. I've always found the prices to be more than fair. My family and I have also brought vehicles in for pre-inspection before purchasing from a dealer, and have always gotten a thorough assessment. Recently I stopped by without an appointment because I could see something dangling from my Kia's undercarriage but couldn't get at it. As soon as a bay could be cleared, they put it up on the rack, identified the problem, and even took care of it on the spot. I was out of there in 30 minutes, and Peter didn't even charge me! It's great knowing that I've found HONEST staff whom I can rely on when my car needs it's routine maintenance "check up", and also when I have an unexpected problem. They do everything possible to quickly access the issue and then let me know my options. I can TRUST Encinitas Automotive to repair only what is necessary. At times, they haven't charged me after spending their time trouble shooting the problem, and have been HONEST in advising me when I have an issue that the car dealership should handle. Alex and Peter run a very professional and respectable shop. The brakes on my CRV started grinding. We drove in from Ohio so with only the one car, I was hoping to get in and have it repaired the same day. To my surprise, Alex was kind enough to move some work around and fit me in for the brake job. When wheels opened, Peter contacted me and gave me a detail of my options - the pricing was very fair. Alex took the time to show me all the parts that were replaced ( not many shops want the customer to see the replaced parts!! ). Peter and his team are truly the best in San Diego! They are knowledgeable, thorough, economical and most importantly completely trustworthy! I have been a loyal customer for several years but am moved to write this by a recent act of customer goodwill. Peter and his team replaced a leaking radiator on my wife's Jeep two years ago. This past week it sprung another leak. Peter unhesitatingly stood by his work and offered to replace it for free. Even though it was not covered by the manufacturers or his workman's warranty. HONEST-After a very upsetting series of issues with Pep Boys (you can check my very negative review for these people), we had my car checked on for a second opinion by Encinitas Automotive. We found them after checking customer reviews and the fact that they are AAA approved also contributed to reassure us. They were very nice and efficient and reassured us my car was fine (Pep Boys had presented us with a work order worth $1,300+!), and let me take my car without charging me a cent. It is difficult to trust somebody with your own car, you never know if they tell you what you really need, sometimes you could end up buying things you don't necessarily need and could get ripped off. The employees here are VERY professional, from the service manager down to the mechanics. Peter really listened intently and respectfully as I explained the symptoms. This is a rare occurrence for me because, as a woman, I tend to be patronized at most other repair shops. The problem was diagnosed quickly and correctly. I had 2 vehicles to get smogged and as I was delinquent with one of them, getting it done was at the critical level. These guys had me in and out like clockwork. I made an appointment and they were ready and expecting me. I was in and out in reasonable time. This is where I go from now on.
