In addition to a cleaning I had to have a crown redone and Jasmine was a fantastic assistant to Dr. Smith. She made sure my temporary was perfect before leaving the office. Dr. Smith was also super personable and professional, and he did a wonderful job prepping my new crown. He stresses preventative care and has a super positive attittude. Everyone's worse nightmare! A toothache right before the weekend! It was my lucky day, I called Dental Design and spoke with the wonderfully nice and eager to help, Judi! She made an appointment for me that day! Diamond escorted me back to a chair, asking me questions and allowing my nervous babble to continue! I don't have an easy time at the dentist, I broke my jaw when I was young. I was introduced to my dentist, Dr Juca and his assistant, Gio. After X-rays, I was told the tooth had to be pulled. I anticipated a few more days of pain, but I was wrong! Dear Dr. Juca could remove it right then and there! I had this same issue a few years ago and spent an entire week going between dentists to find out who would pull it or save it! Dr. Juca had my undivided attention, once he explained my situation, I couldn't believe it was happening again. Then he told me he could pull it right then and there, I said yes! DO NOT GO HERE! I was new to the area and went here simply based off of Yelp reviews, but did not dig deep into the comments to see that many people had the same experience as me. Please take these low reviews seriously and not just as a disgruntled customer as this is a big trend. (Disclaimer, this happened approximately a year ago) When I first arrived, the staff was friendly and it seemed like a normal local dentist office. Went in for a simple check up and cleaning. Within 5 minutes of sitting down, they IMMEDIATELY told me I needed a crown right away. Not only did they start the work without me even having time to think, they had the front desk associate at the SIDE OF THE CHAIR pressuring me to sign documents for pricing. It all happened so fast I did not have time to process what was going on. To add to that, I had to be moved 2 times to different chairs cause half their machines were broken. After grinding my tooth down and providing a temporary crown while the permanent was being fabricated, they sent me off and did not even complete the cleaning I had come in for. Fast forward 2 weeks, I come in to have the permanent delivered. They started prepping me AGAIN for ANOTHER crown. It took me asking them multiple times what they were doing before they realized I was in to receive the permanent one and not have the entire procedure done again. The dentist himself even seemed disgruntled at me for correcting him. To add to this, the dental assistant while removing my temporary crown slipped and split my lip wide open. They also forgot to do the cleaning until I told them. I left that day with a permanent crown that I ended up confirming using X-Rays with a separate dentist and oral surgeon that I did not need, and on top of that a split lip. They also took an entire X-Ray of my mouth despite having my full records from previous dentist in a different city less than 6 months prior. Oh wait there's more! They saw I still had my wisdom teeth in and IMMEDIATELY recommended having them out without asking any questions. They also fully recommended having a bone graft done which is a very costly procedure. All of this from a NON oral surgeon that I would not be sedated for. I saw the red flags everywhere and left to see a very highly recommended oral surgeon in the area who looked at all my records, and confirmed I did not need a bone graft. Do not go here. They will recommend service that is not needed and bombard you with so much information so quickly that you will not have time to think about it. My subsequent visits to a new dentist and specialists have confirmed that this place is simply one to be avoided. read more

I have a long history of complicated dental issues due to my own neglect in my early years (tooth pain, bite sensitivity, crowding, etc.). I have tried two different dentists in North County who could not figure out why I was in such pain when chewing. I tried out Dr. Smith when I moved to Encinitas and he immediately found the issues, fixed them, and now I can eat without pain. Hallelujah! Just for the record, I made an appointment after calling this office after over a year(see my 2/21/18 review) to see if Delta Dental Insurance was once again accepted, which I was informed was taken there again. I showed up to see Dr. Smith on Tuesday April 30th. Though I arrived promptly for my 9 am appointment, after a 30 min wait, I saw a hygenist that I had worked with about a year ago and we spoke for a bit..... I was then escorted to a chair. While X-rays were taken, I inquired where Dr. Smith was, and the dental assistant told me that Dr. Smith was in Northern California dealing with family issues. I subsequently (when I inquired of the dentist) was told that Dr. Smith had sold the business and left the area. I find this strange, since no one mentioned this on the phone, and the new dentist was a virtual stranger to me. After a series of technical failures of the x-ray equipment, I was finally moved to another room to complete the process. An extensive list of expensive procedures were then recommended and listed for me to consider. The entire appointment (9 am) was completed after 11am, and should have taken no more than one hour. Here are my concerns: 1. My 5 star review (2/21/18) is still being used on Yelp and should be removed as the name of the dentistry is the same but the dentist and some of staff is new. 2. There are no detailed Yelp reports since 9/6/2018 (the one on 1/21/19 is for cleaning only and not detailed). Any reviews from Dr. Craft's and Dr. Smith's tenure should be removed, as positive reports are no longer valid when this is only the same office BY NAME. 3. Pictures on this site show the staff and both Dr Craft (he sold three years ago) and Dr. Smith (unknown when he left)- these pictures of the staff should be updated, reflect the dental staff there now, and the new dentist should have his name clearly listed for full and professional disclosure. Now seeking new Delta Dental doctor with positive Yelp reviews as a dentist rather than an office relying on outdated pictures AND reviews of previous dentists and staff! read more

I became unhappy with the treatments I received from a long-term dentist whose quality declined and switched to Encinitas Dental Designs. Dr. Greg Smith was the first dentist I consulted. He did a thorough exam and explained to me that my former dentist gave me poorly fitted crowns and I was getting tooth decay and needed several of them replaced. Although Dr. Smith is now at another location, all of the dentists who have treated me at the Encinitas office have been great, especially the newest team in 2022. The dental assistants and front office staff are also outstanding. Everyone is friendly, highly skilled, and professional. Dentistry is both an art and a science and they do excellent work. I just got back from a cleaning and a permanent crown. This was a second temp i had been wearing bec Dr. B. didn't feel that the other two permanent crowns didn't seem to fit as well as they should. Same thing happened again today with the permanent crown. So, I should have a new one within two weeks. I applaud Dr. B. for not feeling pressured into putting in one of the crowns that didn't fit well just to be done with the process. I feel he's very thorough and deeply appreciate his diligence. Your crown is milled in -house while you wait. I have found Dr. Craft to be incredibly honest and reliable. I've had fillings and crowns both replaced free of charge over the years when he has felt it was a possible material error or too short of a life for the crown/filling in question. Additionally, the office staff has always been highly competent and efficient. When I've call for a dental emergency I am seen within 24 hours. Julie, the very sweet receptionist, provides on the spot insurance quotes for future procedures. The office has implemented text reminders and confirmantions for appointments which is really handy. It's also pretty cool to get texts for last minute cleaning appointment when they are available. I was a former patient of Dr. Craft, who I discovered had sold his practice to Dr. Smith. I hadn't been in for nearly 10 years (having been disappointed by my last experience with Dr. Craft) so I was actually happy that I'd be seeing a different doctor. I'm a senior - 64 - so my earliest memories of dentistry go back to a pretty primitive time when just about every aspect of dentistry was at best uncomfortable and at worst downright painful. Not any more! (At least in Dr. Smith's office!) The staff were all friendly and helpful. Love being able to put on headphones and tune out! Hannah did a very thorough cleaning (we were both pleasantly surprised after 10 years that my dental OCD had paid off and I hadn't developed advanced perio!) but now that I know how simple and actually pleasant it is to see the dentist there's no reason I won't be going in regularly.
