This is a great dental office! The office staff took the time to answer all my questions on the phone When I arrived I turned in my new patient paperwork and insurance information and in less than a few minutes I was already being brought back to an exam room and the dentist was on time for my appointment. The dentist was very personable and explained everything during her review of the x-rays and the exam. She also has an amazing imaging software program I haven't seen at other dental practices. For the first time ever, I saw an accurate visual representation of my teeth which greatly helped me feel confident in the diagnosis and suggestions of which teeth to prioritize. I previously went to a dentist who I liked, but due to insurance changes I needed to find a new dentist. I was very happy to hear that they both agreed upon which teeth have cracked filings due to age and my teeth grinding at night. I am feeling confident about my future appointments to have some needed dental work completed because they took such great care of me as a first time patient. read more

I just went in for my first visit here and unfortunately they did not take my insurance like my insurance had said so I had to cancel last minute so I could use my insurance (I should've called ahead of time) . Honestly deserves zero stars. They think because they put designs in their name they can charge designer prices? Please, basic cleanings are covered by your most basic insurance. But these people act like your teeth are gonna come out like Hermes or Chanel with the insane $1,000 up charge they think they can pull with something that is standard. As others have said - check your bill. Clearly only up and running because they service the La Jolla set and they try to scam you out of your money. And come on you guys, San Diego area has a lot of great dentists and hygienists. Schools nearby have excellent low cost clinics. Tj is right there if you want a very affordable procedure that insurance doesn't cover and if you wanna be crazy, you can go to dentists who service actual celebrities in LA. But unfortunately, dr Juca and his team think they're a bit big for their birches and try to overcharge for simple procedures and take what they can from you. Awful bed side manner and clearly no training in insurance billing. Don't let me stop you from going here. But I'll be saving my money for my 401k and a vacation. It is time to give Encinitas Dental Designs a reality check. I was overly generous on my last review of this business and do not want to send my Yelp compadres the wrong message. Encinitas Dental Designs is a corporate business that has very low standards. First off, they offer big incentives to customers for 5 star reviews, so the rating is artificially high. I trusted the Yelp reviews which was a mistake and had two visits at this office. The first visit was a fiasco of when they rescheduled my cleaning followed by cancelling the whitening which should be done right after cleaning. When they cancelled me they did not offer me a convenient time to rebook, so I ended up having to cut a business meeting short to make my schedule work for them. During the appointment itself I needed to wait in my chair for the dentist to complete a surgery which was booked at the same time as my appointment. The facility itself is funky. The dental chairs are situated in a glass room which extends out past the building's edge. When I look up from the chair at the glass ceiling I kept focusing on the growth of mold, which is not what you would want to see in a dental office. Both visits were problematic. On the second appointment the dentist did the exam before the hygienist cleaned them, which is not the natural order of a dental visit. The dentist did not check my gums, palette or tongue on either visit for overall health. Instead of keeping my mouth healthy, he pointed out a very slight misalignment of a single tooth and immediately began pushing Invisalign on me. I was surprised and shocked because I have never had a dentist suggest Invisalign or braces. To make things worse the hygienist stopped treatment in the middle of the process so that the office manager could present me with an offer for discounted treatment that would be offered to me only once. I gave them a hard pass on the expensive, unnecessary procedure that they recommended. I knew that I would never return after that experience so I told them that I would call to reschedule when I needed a cleaning. For the next few days I received a barrage of unwanted calls to book another appointment until I made it crystal clear that I was never coming back. read more

I really did not want to have to give a bad review, but I feel like I have no choice but to let others know about my experience. Please, check your bill! My husband and I were charged incorrectly for multiple services at this office, ending up exceeding SEVERAL THOUSAND dollars and we have still yet to receive the full amount back after waiting 5 months. I will only focus on what was charged extra for me personally in this review. I received Invisalign from Encinitas Dental Designs back in May, and after looking at my insurance statement, realized I was charged the uninsured price and that they also billed my insurance (balance billing). When I realized I was charged full price, my husband reached out to the office, where we were told we were wrong even after showing them proof of our insurance amounts vs what we were charged. Unfortunately, instead of the office fixing the issue and reimbursing us, we had to dispute the case with our insurance company which took MONTHS. Encinitas Dental Designs did not send the insurance company our bill with them, so this only prolonged the process. The insurance company sided with us, which forces Encinitas Dental Designs to pay us our allotted amount. Even after all of this, we are still owed an additional $400 for the Invisalign. My husband was told they would mail us a check , but it has been several weeks and we have still not received the additional amount owed. This has been a huge nightmare, and I hope this can serve as a warning for others, especially those who have dealt with dentist billing issues in the past. read more

I appreciate a business that responds and cares about a not so favorable review. One star added. However, I stand by my experience, if I counted the times I said no it would be well over 10. I appreciate when a dentist gives me options but in the end it is my life, my choice. It felt that everyone was focused on making $$. Especially when they found out I had insurance. However, if this dental office was in my best interest, they would not have xrayed alllll my teeth and would have expressed the high cost is because this dental office is out of my coverage plan. The dental office would have given me a recommendation and then expressed how the office is not in my area plan and to find one that is as it will be far cheaper. They also made me show them over and over how I was going to pay and then had me send multiple screen shots to "validate" the charge. Then even texted me the next day or so asking if the check was sent from my HSA yet. Talk about treating someone guilty until proven innocent. I appreciate my tooth got removed and thats it. Quick n ez review since the experience was horrific. The only good thing, why they get 2 stars instead of 1 is with how quick I was able to be seen however that might have to do with the serious lack of business these days. I required a tooth pulled that ended up chipping off while eating pizza. After they xrayed my whole mouth, cuz ya know "my insurance will pay for it", I had to battle to get my tooth pulled. Then on day of getting tooth pulled had to deal with high pressure sales, talked into something I clearly did NOT want but if I nvr agreed they wouldnt shut up about it so to get any work done I had to agree to the $1500 bill. When typically a tooth pull cost like $150. Then the dude struggled to pull my simple tooth. Dude put sutures in that "i wont need to worry about" cuz they'll just "go away". However those sutures ended up not going away and getting stuck inside my gums 2 weeks later with about an inch of thread hanging getting stuck in food and pulling on my guns making eating a WORST painful experience ever. I really want to give 1 star because of this!!!! When I contacted the office that was so responsive before the work and shortly after when they kept questioning my payment that they made me show was legit several times. They didnt respond to my emergency messages. I ended up going to a much better local dentist since I'm more south. So if ya want to deal with high pressure sales, nagging nagging people and a questionable dentist that only care about $$, this is your spot. read more

This place is the worst. I had the worst experience I've ever had a dentist at this place. I recently switched insurance from a PPO to an HMO. My options were limited. I went in for the first time in January 2023. Dr Jucha (Juka?) took x-rays and said I had a cavity under a crown. I went in to this appointment with no pain in this tooth at all. I return on another day for the cavity to be filled and crown to be replaced. Temporary placed on. I return for the cementing of the new crown. Dr. J did not numb me for this. It was VERY painful. I complained and he said "I'm almost done, there's no point in numbing you now." I was in pain (throbbing) the rest of the afternoon. Flashfoward 5 months and I'm still having pain in this tooth-super sensitive to cold. This was never an issue before Dr. J messed with this tooth. I return to Encinitas Dental Designs. Shocker, Dr. J is no longer there. They tell me he's at the Hilcrest office. Don't know if that's true. I see the new doctor, Dr. Ahmed. She eventually says we need to redo the crown because it's not on properly. It wasn't all the way down flush with my gums, thus the sensitivity to cold ALL the time. While looking at my x-rays from January she says, oh, by the way, you have two cavities on the other side of your mouth, top and bottom. Hmmm., I asked why Dr. Jucha didn't mention that 5 months ago. Her answer-"I don't know." Okay, fine. I'll get that taken care of when I come back to get the crown permanently cemented in. I return a few weeks later for the new crown (they did not charge me for the second go around since Jucha messed up the first one). I had explained that I'm a natural red head and one of those people that needs more numbing than the average person. Dr. Ahmed proceeded to numb me up for both cavities (top and bottom of left side) and the crown. (bottom right). She started on the crown tooth first. Needs to clean up the area. It was quite painful. I asked for more numbing, she gave it to me. Still hurt. More numbing. Still hurt. Started to actually cry. That's NEVER happened to me before at a dentist. She moves on to do the cavities. Same story. Not enough numbing, has to go back and give me more. After filling the first cavity she says, oh, actually you only have one cavity, not two. Mind you, she already completely numbed my top and bottom left side. Returns to my right side to finish up the crown. More pain. She says, I've given you so much numbing medicine, I can't safely give you any more, you need to see an endodontist. I left angry, upset, in pain and with a temporary on my tooth. From then until I saw the endodontist (10 days) I was taking Advil non-stop for the pain. I went to an endodontist. I needed a root canal. My roots were totally enflamed. Remember, before Dr. Jucha started messing with this tooth I had no pain, no enflamed roots. The endodontist numbed me up just fine. I still have the temporary on my tooth but have decided that I will pay out of pocket to go to a decent dentist. I let Encinitas Dental Designs know. Judy-the receptionist (office manager?) was very nice on the phone and apologized for everything. She's always been nice. But seriously, you couldn't pay me money to go back there. I think they are owned by a big corporation-although a refund check sent to me had the name Richard C Evangelista on it. It is one of those type of practices that has a high employee turnover. Every time I went there was a new/different dental assistant. And Dr. Ahmed is no longer there either. They are always trying to upsell you on orthodontics or a deep cleaning. It just felt like they are trying to get as much money out of you as possible. And the dentists they hire are bottom of the barrel. If you have any choice in where you can go to the dentist, don't choose this place. Seriously THE WORST. read more

Judy, the office manager, lied to me about having a periodontist on staff. Dr. Evangelista, who is ONLY a dentist, NOT A PERIODONTIST, botched a very painful $5500 gum graft surgery for my receding gums. He created so much scar tissue that it was incredibly difficult for an actual periodontist, who has his own periodontal practice, to achieve successful results. NOTE: A periodontist degree requires 3 additional years of education and training after dental school to earn their Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. During my surgery, Dr. Evangelista was showing another staff member (dentist?) how to do the surgery and tie off the stitches. The response from the other guy was, "Oh, so that's how you do it." Guess this dental office thinks that is all the training someone needs to perform major surgeries. Plus, they buy most of their 4 & 5-star reviews by giving clients financial incentives--free teeth whitening, free cleanings, cash, etc. Don't trust their glowing Yelp ratings. But if you're into destructive dental care that comes with big perks, go for it. Encinitas Dental Designs, please stop lying to your patients, destroying their gums and teeth, using them as ATM's and treating them as guinea pigs. You should be ashamed of yourself. read more

This corporate office is now privately owned by Dr. Le. I read all the old negative reviews, and they're no longer an issue with the new doctor. Dr. Le took over the office and moved to a new location 1 mile away. It is totally a night and day different from the former corporate office. The office is very nice, calming feeling as you enter. The staff are very friendly, honest and helpful. They have the latest technology, more no messy impressions. They use a scanner to scan a 3-D model of your teeth. Dr. Le is so kind, gentle, and knowledgeable. She is honest with her treatment plans and doesn't over sale or overcharge her patients. It's been awhile since I had a teeth cleaning, and I stumbled upon this office while I was on my way to do some errands. I figured, "why not, there's a dental office here already". When I walked in, I was welcomed by the receptionist, Derick. The entire office smelt nice, everyone was so friendly and kind! I had my teeth cleaned by Annie, the dental hygienist. She is very thorough and cleaned every imperfection on my teeth. I was most impressed by Dr.Le when she came to examine my teeth. Dr.Le is very acknowledgeable, and she's so young. Her credentials on the walls made me feel very comfortable. She picked out 2 cavities and 4 old fillings that needed to be replaced. I knew I was in the right hands with the right doctor when she said my previous dentist wasn't meeting up to her standards of perfection. I was at awe. She took wonderful care of my teeth. Let's be honest healthcare in this country is incredibly ridiculous and frustrating to deal with already and to top it off when you go to a dental office that tries to take advantage of their patients it makes matters that much worse. I went to this office for a routine cleaning and they told me that I needed a deep cleaning which was not covered by my dental insurance... How could something like that not be covered? It's not a vanity-related treatment, it sounded necessary so I could, you know keep my own teeth? This office also recommended that I do Invisalign but my teeth are pretty straight. Also, this facility looks visibly dingy. You would think with the kind of money that they were charging that they would keep their facility in tip-top condition. I really didn't trust their assessment so I ended up going to a different dentist who told me that I just needed regular cleaning and he went ahead and did that cleaning for me. read more

I recently switched insurance and was looking for a new dentist to try and stay in network (despite having a PPO plan). I picked this office off a list from my insurance company because it was close to my house. First off, my dental cleaning and exam took TWO HOURS - I've never been at the dentist that long for just a simple cleaning. In addition, the dental assistant was terrible, couldn't work the machinery correctly, and got water/spit/polish stuff all over my face and clothes. So much so that water ran down my cheeks and down my neck getting the back of my shirt wet. I was also given a quote for numerous crowns, fillings, and special lab-made fillings that was going to come out to be over $3,500. (Not including what my insurance would pay) I understand that medical bills can be high, but everything felt so unnecessary. I was having slight sensitivity on one tooth which was identified as being due to slight gum recession so had nothing to do with all of the treatment being suggested. I've had my fair share of cavities, and even needed more than one filling at a time but NEVER have I been told it would cost anything close to what they wanted to charge. After my exam and cleaning I had to tell them no SEVERAL times that I couldn't make future appointments. The whole thing just felt very high pressured and all for the money. The minute I walked out of the office I made an appointment with my previous dentist for a second opinion. I highly recommend staying away from this office. They try and squeeze every last penny out of you! read more

If you experience Anxiety going to the dentist then this review is for you. I'm currently in town visiting my parents for Christmas. I unfortunately cracked a tooth while eating. I called Encinitas Dental Designs and spoke with Ann. Right from the beginning Ann WAS AMAZING!! I told her I cracked a tooth and was in a lot of pain. She told me they could see me right away and to come on down. Upon arrival I explained that going to the dentist was extremely difficult for me and that I was extremely anxious. Ann was very comforting and kept assuring me they were going to take good care of me. Ann, if you read this, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kindness. You really made my visit as good as it could have been given the circumstances. Once the paperwork was complete they immediately brought me in the back to eliminate the pain. The Dental Assistant(I'm sorry, I can't remember your name) was also AMAZING. She understood I was anxious and took the time to explain everything with me. She was without a doubt the best dental assistant I have ever had. Ann, again, if you read this please let her know how thankful I am for her kindness as well. Now let's talk about the dentist..... Wow, was I impressed. He too understood how anxious I felt and assured me I wouldn't feel a thing. He took the time to talk to me about what he was going to do and continued to inquire if I was ok throughout the procedure. He fixed my tooth quickly and true to his word..... I didn't feel a thing. In Summary, the staff at Encinitas Dental Designs were all amazing. If you experience Anxiety or are just looking for a new dentist then you should definitely give them a call.
