Dr. Priya O'Callaghan made the painful nightmare in my mouth peaceful again. Root canals are up there with getting a shot in your eyeball. No one wants one unless they HAVE to have one. Well, I had to fly unexpectedly to Berkeley early Sunday morning (I live in NM) and on Monday my tooth was angry and not happy. I went to Dr. Barry Kami, who I found on the Internet because of reviews, and he informed me that I would need a root canal and that he would make a call to Dr. O'Callaghan to see if she could fit me in given the fact that I was traveling and unsure of how long I would be staying in CA. Dr. O'Callaghan saw me right away, put me on antibiotics and scheduled me for a root canal the very next day. I'm not going to lie, I was anxious. When I got there, she stepped me through a breathing technique that really helped me throughout the procedure. It was painless (once that shot was in) but even w the shot, she has a great technique (I needed one in the roof of my mouth). The best part of it was that they have a special technology called the Gentle Wave that literally flushes out the bacteria in your root canal. It's like a deep cleaning spa day for your tooth (and that poor tooth needed it!) . They put this apparatus around the tooth and then it just swirls water around the tooth and canal for about 5 min. It cuts down on complications and I truly believe them given the fact that I am 12 hours out from my procedure and have zero pain. read more

I received a root canal in February 2020, and for 4 years later, the same tooth is now reinfected due to inadequate cleaning of the tooth canal. The infection is now in my jawbone, which is painful. I contacted the office, and the front desk agent said they could do nothing since it's been over a year. This is sad. I paid so much for the procedure, only to lose the situation. Referred by my dentist for a root canal, I was referred to this office. I paid $648 out of pocket and received a statement from aetna that I actually only owed $238. The office had the gall to send me another bill to bill me additional $150. I called and Pablo in Berkeley explained that I am responsible to pay above and beyond the contracted rates with Aetna. I explained that is not how insurance works. I called again and spoke to Lorena in El Cerrito who said they threw in procedures that are not covered by insurance and they were on my consent form. I have attached a picture so you can see that they did not disclose the cost of a disposable device would be $250! What gets me is they would have kept my undisputed overpayment had I not spent my own time researching and calling, and billed me and the insurance beyond. Beyond the horrendous billing, the procedure was awful. The roof of my mouth was torn apart for over a week. My dentist commented out how roughly it had gone when I went back for the crown. My root canal received by them turned into a re-infection... My face has swollen to the size of a balloon and it's been excruciating pain. I got a root canal re treatment done by Dr. Chalmers on a tooth that was RCT treated over 20 years ago. I was so relieved that he was able to save my tooth! His expertise is unmatched! He has a very polite demeaner and is very gentle. His assistant, Nanita, was also such a sweetheart! They make sure you are comfortable during the whole procedure. Their chairs are so comfy that I feel asleep during my treatment because I was so relaxed. Financially, it was not a cheap treatment (specially because I did not have insurance) but I think it was worth it, knowing I was in good hands! And it was still way less than what an Implant costs! Great offices conveniently located in Hayward, Oakland, Berkeley and El Cerrito! Appointment booking couldn't have been any easier. I was seen at two of their locations, in Oakland and in El Cerrito. Both of these locations have their own patient parking which is very convenient. In both offices, it was the same experience with the front desk. As soon as I walked in the front door, the front desk immediately made me feel right at home. Everything was on time and both were extremely professionally run offices. The offices were very clean and up-to-date with modern equipment. In Oakland: I had an amazing experience with Dr. Siu who greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Atsushi Fujimura performed a root canal on an upper molar yesterday. It was completely painless. I didn't even feel the anesthetic injection because the topical anesthetic made the area completely numb. After that, I was able to relax and almost doze off while he worked. I could tell from the way he sometimes talked to himself that he was concentrating and working as hard as he could. I had been to the now retired Dr. Chalmers a couple times in the past and he was great. It's comforting to know that Dr. Fujimura is just as careful and skilled. read more
