So this review is based on at least 10+ visits to this exact location! Each time I ordered food from here whether on the phone for pick up or in person each time my order was done correctly and the food tasted delicious! The customer service is very nice and courteous. Each time I got my food from here it was done to perfection and the portions are actually pretty big compared to other places in the area. My favorite by far is the Bison Chipotle bowl which I would highly recommend for everyone to try! Best affordable place to get a healthy green juice in a 5 block radius. Staff are always friendly and super efficient. I come in once a week and grab a large green juice to keep in the fridge. It's like 2.5x the size of more expensive green juice shops around the neighborhood, and the produce looks fresh and clean. I see a lot of complaints about the hot food, which I honestly have never tried and likely wouldn't given all the other options in Clinton hill. I made an online order of the chicken parmigiano quesadilla and #18 energy steak wrap. My quesadilla was good. It had the right amount of sauce and lots of cheese, which is good because I love cheese. Unfortunately, my boyfriend received the steak and egg breakfast wrap. Although he was initially disappointed, he still enjoyed it. The wrap was pretty hefty. He was only able to eat half of it. Always a long wait. For delivery, expect it to be an hour later than the time given. When waiting in line at the restaurant, also expect a long wait. My order was given to another person in the building with my same name, but I clearly put the floor number and explained to call me when in the lobby. The service sucks. I'll go straight to the point: ASK FOR YOUR RECEIPT WHEN YOU ORDER FROM ENERGY FUEL! Then check it, as they may have overcharged you! Now, for the explanation: I just returned from Energy Fuel, where I ordered the bison chipotle plate. It was listed on their enormous menu board at $11. However, my total came to $13.06, which I found odd (tax on $11 wouldn't be that much), so when she asked me if I wanted my receipt, I said yes. In clear type, the receipt showed that I was charged $12 for the meal, and the tax was $1.06. I initially wasn't going to make a big deal, so I got the young woman's attention and pointed out the price discrepancy. She showed it to her colleague at the register and he said "Oh the price is because of the tax" to which I pointed out again that receipt clearly states that what I was charged for the meal was more than what the menu showed. The woman resumed doing other orders, and the young man then said that there was probably a problem with the computer and that he would have to speak to the manager. Good, I said, that way it can be corrected, and I can get my dollar back. He placed my receipt on the counter next to the register and then retreated to the back, where I assumed he was looking for the manager to rectify the issue. When my food was ready, the young woman who originally took my order gave me my food and then wished me a good evening. I said, "You, too" but then reminded her that my price issue hadn't been resolved. She just stared, so I asked her if the manager was here, and then she said no (so I assumed that the young man who went to the back did it to ignore me in hope that I would go away). At this point, I was wasting time, so I said "Well, you can start by giving me back the dollar you overcharged me," which she did, and then I left. I normally wouldn't make this big a deal about $1, but it was the nonchalance with which the issue was (not) handled that really bothers me. No acknowledgment of their error, no effort whatsoever to try to correct it. And, if in fact the system is wrong, they've overcharged many people, so those dollars are probably adding up at our expense. Energy Fuel is somewhat of a smoke and mirrors act - it boasts an attractive menu that inspires a fair amount of hope while you order...which then quickly dissipates when the food is placed before you. An impressive sounding Energy Teriyaki Platter comes out of the kitchen as little more than a handful of mixed vegetables and chopped chicken, just slightly underglazed with a light sauce. Healthy? Yes. Flavorful, not so much. I had a hard time figuring how one might dare call this a 'platter' and eventually concluded it must've been on account of the fancy porcelain dish it's served on because it's most certainly not aptly named if for its (paltry) serving size. In fact, the cleverly tapered bowls disguised the eyes into thinking there's more food than there actually is... but for the price point, the meal is only slightly unreasonable. The hungry boyfriend was crestfallen when he pushed aside his veggies and found a poor man's serving of brown rice. To their credit, the kitchen unsmilingly offered him another scoop free of charge when he asked for it, but it was just another thing that stood between him and his meal, and would prompt me to avoid coming if I were famished. My own veggie burger combo was tasty enough, but the fries had clearly been flash baked, making for a healthier option than having them deep-fried but nearly every fry on the plate had acquired smokey, blackened ends which weren't quite so healthy nor good to eat. So why three stars? They're clearly here to offer healthier alternatives to the standard fare on Myrtle, and to be fair, they've done that successfully with their food, but moreso with their liquid menu - shakes, juices, and smoothies. I've had a few juices and their new kale smoothie (not on the wall menu yet, but look for the sign on the counter), and all have been quick, fresh, and delicious. Indeed, it seems that much of the foot traffic through this joint is not so much for what's coming out the kitchen but from their juices and blenders. I'd highly recommend any of the fruit and veggie potations here but if you're hungry, don't expect too much. read more

She says, "I can charge you for honey." The juice was already over $8. Your customer is extremely unsatisfied, but also really kind about the matter, and you're going to charge for a sweetener? I was really surprised and ultimately extremely disappointed. Mostly because I work in customer service- in bars. If a guest doesn't like their drink, you apologize, dump it, and make them a NEW drink (free of charge). That's part of service. My boyfriend thought ginger in addition to honey would balance the ingredients. It did! Now we were out an additional $6.... We're upset, deflated, sipping on a medium $14 juice when he says, "this needs dilution. Let's put some water in it." It helped. But it still didn't taste good. I have an idea! Let's get some coconut water. $2 later, we pour almost an entire can of coconut water. NOW this juice is drinkable. $16 later and half of what went in it was NOT from this place. However, the last 2 times i've ordered, I've felt skimped on the KEY ingredients. Like if i get a portobello wrap, it will be like 80% veggie burger. And the last 2 times i've gotten the Mediterranean salad, it's been like half the size it used to be (it seems they are now skimping on lettuce). Its a 9 dollar salad! Instead, I was met with increasingly frustrating excuses from their manager. A couple of highlights from our brief conversation: "You ordered a custom juice. It's 50 cents more for ginger." (duh, that's what I'm frustrated about) "That's just what's in the system." "Next time ask for juice Q, the hangover killer." "The ginger comes with juice Q." (duh, again) "Customers have complained in the past about pricing like this." "Just order Q next time and remove an item you don't want." At this point I'm super frustrated because CLEARLY he doesn't give a crap about customer service. I suggested he tell his customers if they're ordering something that looks like it's a pre-conceived juice to avoid this kind of miscommunication. The menu can be edited a bit because there are literally a million things on the menu. The salads are great and the ingredients are pretty clean. They take a long time to cook your food but the food is always fresh. The bad: The customers here are pretentious. They seem to always be complaining about something-vegan this, gluten free that. They also seem to be going on tangents about their soy in their smoothies, etc. But this place is in a historically Black neighborhood that is now almost completely gentrified. Two and a half stars. This place is a little more bajankity than I thought it would be. I ride my bike down Myrtle every day, so I have been riding past EF every day since it opened. I was always kind of unsure about it, but Erin M. finally convinced me to stop in for a juice yesterday. Although I was perplexed by the cheesy Chinese-food-menu-esque giant framed posters of juice drinks that in no way resemble the actual drink (which is sad, because the actual drink is infinitely better looking and tasting than the posters indicate), as well as the non-communicative staff. I decided upon the salmon and seaweed wrap, and an "asthma" (dumb cough!) juice - carrot, celery, and grapefruit. The freshly-juiced juice was good, but Fresh Fanatic's is way better (and the same price). The wrap was actually decent, but it reminded me of this wrap that I used to get in Chicago at Kitsch'in, which had sushi rice in it and was much more delicious. Oh and, I don't think Energy Fuel is particularly vegetarian friendly, either. All I saw everywhere was turkey, ostrich, bison, and whatnot. This was a fairly big surprise and disappointment. I dunno. I think the first review below is ludacris and uninformed - health craze? Is this the 80s? Are we all going to do Jane Fonda and eat Nutra-System?
