In the NH welcome center portion of the rest stop the woman at the desk was the least welcoming person you could have there as an ambassador for your state. She could barely communicate and practically ripped a map out of my hand after I had picked it out of the display on the counter. Her explanation on why that was not the map I wanted was incomprehensible. Weird. The other oddity that I had not experienced before were the dozen or so unhoused individuals who were living in their vehicles in this rest stop parking lot. Many appear to have been here for a very long time. I understand that for them it may be a safe place with facilities but I am not sure it provides a safe or inviting environment for the general traveling public especially at night.

I didn't even spot trash cans. But for a spot to have a snooze instead of fighting highway traffic, it worked well. I actually spent the night here in my Sprinter van. Comfortable enough and secure, I did spot an MSP trooper go through once though he was using it as a staging area for a speed trap. Otherwise, there are only the lights of the trucks going past on the highway to provide any security, i.e., none. Lock your doors and keep to yourself, you should be okay.
