Stopped in here with Wifey for the second stop on date night and was really glad we did. Parking is tough here as the in street parking limited and there are two restaurants at the corners. When we got here we only planned for a small order. The place was clean, but not too full so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly, dropped off our waters quickly and let us read the menu. We ordered edamame and a kani salad for appetizers. Wifey ordered a Rainbow Roll for her meal and I got the Ninja Roll and and order of yellowtail sashimi. The kani salad was a little small for the price but the edamame was nicely done and there was plenty. The rolls and the sashimi were delicious... You're going to pay LBI prices obviously, so don't be shocked, but I would definitely come back here for sushi OR any of the other food on the menu. read more

Being away on a beach vacation means you don't want to cook, so we decided to order sushi and splurge! Although the prices are fairly steep in comparison to NYC prices, we took the plunge and got a variety of different standard rolls and some specialties. We called the order in, and went to pick it up 35 minutes later. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the presentation, especially for a take-out platter. Look how pretty it is! I was also pleasantly surprised that the rolls weren't loaded with rice, which tends to be pretty common outside of NYC. The rolls were fresh and tasty - we had no problem eating this all evening long! We got salmon, tuna, spicy kani, yellowtail with scallions, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and many more! I can't say one was better than the other; everything was really delightful. Even though this set us back at over $100 for about 8-10 rolls, I wouldn't hesitate to order from here again! read more

The staff is nice, so that is a positive. Unfortunately the food was mediocre at least what I had. I ordered some Pad Thai and frankly it didn't even seem to have any fish sauce in it or the regular tangy flavor, it was super bland. The sushi was fine so that is a positive. After 3 years, ZEN IS OFFICIALLY OPEN FOR DINE IN again!!! The restaurant is now under new ownership, but much of what you know and love about Zen is still the same. A solid sushi spot on the island, their menu still incorporates other Asian fusion options like Chinese and Thai. This restaurant is still BYO, another reason to love it here. Another review mentioned their experience dining in so after many years of being take out only during the pandemic and even after that it was time to check this place out. Friday night and only one other table was sitting down to eat so the service was great and our food came out quick. Their menu offers a nice variety of both Japanese and Chinese cuisine making and I had that feeling that you can't go wrong with whatever you decide to go with. Gut instinct was right on tonight as the appetizers and specialty sushi rolls were delicious. Crispy duck bao bun app had the perfect sauce and it wasn't too filling. Def light on the duck portion but taste was there. Pan fried dumplings could have had 3 orders of those.. really tasty stuff. They offer Japanese soda which I hope more places start to carry. Wasabi roll and lobster roll with a mango sauce were expensive at close to $20 each but that's standard issue these days. Zen sushi was very clean and doesn't depress you like the new Makoto does. Me and my friends had a HORRIBLE interaction at Zen sushi ship bottom the waitresses and hostess judged us severely and we're talking about us while we were trying to enjoy our meal peacefully. The blatant disrespect should not be tolerated in a town as small as this and I recommend you and your family stay far on way away from this establishment. Do not go here. I ordered hot and sour soup. They gave me miso soup. I ordered brown rice, which I paid extra for. They gave me white rice. Strike 2! The food was barely warm. Every other Chinese food place you bring it home and it's steaming. Sometimes it's so hot you burn your tongue. No danger of that here, not even close. Strike 3! The cherry on top is that I call the lady and tell her all of this, she says she will give me a $5 store credit next time I come back. I tell her I want a $1 credit to give me back the up charge for brown rice. She says no! People! Avoid this place! Food just ok, terrible customer service. They don't care!!! read more

If you order on line be prepared to wait over an hour past the pickup time. Their system is completely flawed. When you get there they will tell you it's almost ready. Then after 20 minutes they will tell you they need another 20 minutes. If that happens, then you should be sure to just leave. I stayed because I had a large order and where else could I have gotten enough food for 6 in less than another 20 minutes. Then after about another 30 minutes they will tell you they need only another 7 minutes (who knows why they picked 7 - bear in mind that 8 is an Asian lucky number- but 7 definitely isn't). After another 15 minutes they will tell you they are only waiting for 1 more item. Best bet is to just not go there. But if you do and your order is delayed, then just leave. P.S. they didn't include one of the dinners we ordered and the portions were small. read more

Zen is by far the best Asian cuisine in South Jersey. The closest thing to the kind of Asian food I grew up with up North. Sushi is incredible. Prices are definitely Island prices but worth it for the amount and quality you receive from here. It's also worth the drive since they do takeout only currently. I took my 12yr old and mother out for dinner here last night. The service was not the best, but the sushi was amazing and fresh fresh. My little one devoured her shrimp tempura, also dug into my raw rolls lol. My mom is not big on sushi but loved her avocado roll and chicken teriyaki dish. All of my rolls were amazing! We went to Zen tonight For dinner. It was awful ! There was one waitress (the owner) for the entire restaurant. It took 90 minutes for the food to come to the table and it was ice cold. Try the chicken curry! That's my favorite from here. You won't find anything that disappoints, but some sushi rolls for instance are just average. Their lunch specials are absolutely worthy of the bang you get for your buck. I've never had to wait longer for my food than the estimated time given.
