On our vacation in St. Thomas, I found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint. They're unique for having truffle butter edamame and it's a must appetizer. They did not have our favorite sake, but we were able to explain it, and the waitress was able to point us in the right direction(photo) we ordered the big easy with regular tuna instead of jerk tuna(waitress recommendation) and shaggy dog. Ordered unagi eel and tuna pictures attached) for dessert. We ordered the key line wonton. They were OK probably would've just ordered the vanilla bean ice cream with caramel sauce because that really was the highlight of the dessert. The patio is nice if you want to sit outside and have a view of the yachts and the dock, we chose to sit inside because of the vibe and we had been outside all day. Service was great!!! Coming up on one hour waiting for our order to be taken. Could understand if it was a busy night, but there are five other tables. Update: after an hour our order was finally taken. Waitress offered on the house drinks due to the wait. Once the order was in took about 20-30 mins for it to come out. Solid sushi and the dessert was fun. What a giant waste of time and money. Nothing that we ordered here was edible. You would assume eating fish from a place that is next to the Ocean would mean that the seafood would superior right?!Nope. I realized the best sushi I've had was in a desert. Hilarious. Also, they add a mandatory 20% service charge on to-go orders. You heard that right. 20%! I asked for some hot sauce and the waitress says ok, it's on the house! I honestly can't tell if she's kidding or not. And all of that would have still been ok if the food didn't taste like moldy cement. Beautiful inside and out! This was my first meal when I arrived at St. Thomas and it did not disappoint. The lychee and plum sake are delicious, so please get the flight if you haven't tried them yet! The rolls are priced well, and are very filling. I recommend the Storm roll, and Bubb. My favorite appetizers here are the crab rangoons, which may be the best I've had so far-- and the fried green beans. The dessert menu is also solid, the vegan gelato is especially rich. If you're lucky, there will be live music, and lots of tarpon swimming off the dock. Great date spot! read more

Only 2 servers and lead server was doing dining room damage control for the tardiness due to large parties. I gave the team the benefit of the doubt. So here it goes...Over price sashimi and chrirasi. 1. First fish was not cut correctly. 2. What is written on the menu is not presented properly. If you had sushi before and you know what to expect this place is not it. RUN Shame on the resturant to help themselves with 20% service fee on a split check for a party of 4. If your were not paying attention you may be giving your money away. Tip and service fee is earned not owed. We normally tip 18-20% because we work in hotel and restaurants in the states. The WORST experience ever! When we walked in, there were plenty of empty tables, yet we were told there will be 15-20 minutes wait. We asked to sit at the bar and we were told she has to check with the bartender to see IF we can sit at the bar while waiting. I have no idea where we were supposed to wait if we are not allowed to wait at the bar since there were no other seating available. We got the "permission" to sit at the bar and took about 20-25 minutes to finally get one of the numerous empty tables. After ordering the food, we waited another 45-50 minutes to actually get the food. Chirashi came out with 4 balls that had 16 pieces of fish wrapped in the shape of flowers. It was the worst, the thinnest cut of fish I have ever seen. Couple pieces weren't even straight cuts, it was barely a same piece of fish. Waitress tried to do some damage control about a long wait time and agreed to some free hand rolls. They only gave us one, instead of 3 then, they charged us for it. When the bill came, we realized there was automatic 20% gratuity added. There were 4 people in our party and we split our checks, yet we were each charged automatic 20% gratuity? I have seen 20% being added to the party of 8 or more in the past but not for a party of 4. This place is a rip off and shady and a tourist trap! Stay far away when you come to St. Thomas and save your money. read more

What really makes me mad is that they automatically charge you 20 percent for service on your tab. Normally I wouldn't mind, in fact I will leave more then 20%. Actually might be the worst place to order from on the island, and that's IF they will even take your order. I have never been to a place that has to "check with the kitchen" before taking a phone order. You're either accepting orders from your menu or not. Also please be aware that when they ask you if you need utensils, what they are actually asking you is if you'd like them to add an addition three dollar charge for a single plastic fork and disposable chopsticks. We came for happy hour, and it was SO worth it. Sit on the patio, you're right on the dock and get to people watch, which is fun. Also, peek in the water to see some XL Tarpons! Great prices on sake, and 50% off a bunch of their appetizers which was a great deal. My husband and I stopped here briefly after getting off our cruise ship. It's a quaint spot located right on the water with views of the marina and large boats. Enkai is our favorite sushi restaurant in St Thomas. It has the best sushi and the fried ice cream in a donut is the best.The sushi prices are very reasonable. The menu can be confusing. The lunch menu list nigri as 1 piece. The dinner menu does not show 2 pieces but only the price. We were pleasantly surprised when we ordered and recevived 2 pieces for the price. The atmosphere and setting next to the water is special. The place is always busy and the service was slow. It took us two hours for dinner, otherwise we would give Enkai 5 stars. Holy hidden gem, Batman!! After eating in overpriced tourist traps all week, we happily accepted a local's recommendation to check out "this little sushi place off the beaten path" our last night in St. Thomas. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that we discovered Enkai our last night on the island, as I seriously would have gone for every single meal if we had discovered it earlier. Prices are comparable to Charlotte (my hometown) sushi. Impressive considering everything else we ate was at least $3-$5 more than "mainland" prices. A cheese burger that would run me $10 in Charlotte was $13 most places in St. Thomas. A salad with mahi that would have been $15 in Charlotte was $25 at a restaurant near our hotel. I don't tell you any of this to complain... I get that it costs a lot to get food to the islands. I tell you to help you understand what an amazing deal $12-$18 sushi rolls at Enkai really are! It's not only the prices that are right at Enkai -- the sushi is inventive and so delicious! Our favorite dishes of the night were the cheeseburger dim sum, carnival roll, and baconator roll. Every bite of everything was great, though. So, I don't think there is a bad choice on the menu. We loved sitting at the bar with the absolutely adorable bar tender, Marley! Wonder if they'd ever consider opening a satellite location in Charlotte? I'd be their best customer! read more

One of my all time favorite St. Thomas restaurants, every time we visit the islands we stop here at least twice. My favorite roll is the shaggy dog, but you seriously cannot go wrong with any of them! I highly recommend saving room for dessert- the fried ice cream is AMAZING! read more

They say that money can't buy happiness, but you can go to Enkai and buy delicious cocktails with drool worthy sushi which is the same thing! USVI is surrounded by lots of ocean and great fishing, however sushi joints here don't reflect that! It's confusing, but Enkai is a exception! Now I'm a outdoorsy kind of person in that I enjoy my cocktails out on a patio. If you have that same outdoorsy tolerance I highly recommend grabbing a seat outside! There is actually only one place I would sit at in the restaurant, and that is the 2 seat high top facing the ocean directly next to the entrance. The other seats facing the ocean are blocked by a smelly Kon Tiki booze cruise monstrosity. This place is awesomely casual. My usual lazy daytime yoga uniform works well here! So on the the booze! We tried a Sake Arnold Palmer ($9) and Watermelon Martini ($10)! Both were so refreshing it felt like we were hydrating as we were dehydrating ourselves with alcohol. For those of you that like sweeter drinks the passion fruit pineapple sake cocktail ($10) is delicious! We thought the separate colors in the drink were supposed to be that way but when we mixed it up it became an even better drink. Oh the sushi is melt in your mouth fresh! Wow if I were granted one super power I'd ask for the ability to not get full and fat because I'd park up here and eat sushi all day long! Folks this fish is so fresh it's like they just pulled the sucker right out of the ocean and served it up to you. Maybe they did? 2 feet away is the ocean with 3-4 foot swimming blobs that are either large fish or sharks. The staff here recommends ordering 1.5 to 2 rolls per person. We decided to share a lunch box set and get 2 more rolls. The lunch box set is miso with a choice of a side (edamame, wakame, tempura, cheeseburger dim sum etc) one nigiri and a roll (8 pieces ) for $16. Not a bad deal! The three rolls we selected were the sweetheart (came w/ lunch box set, salmon, avocado, honey sesame), Fresca ( $18 salmon, ahi, shiracha, cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapeños and scallions topped with a cilantro lemon zest and mustard miso sauce), and dragon ($16 tempura crab, unagi, jalapeños, garlic roasted cream cheese). All was amazing and more than enough for two. The hubby threw in the towel with 4 pieces left but my inner fatty kicked in to finish everything for us! Dragon roll is huge, they say you get 8 pieces but it's actually 11! Our server was great, didn't catch her name, but I think she's also the bartender because we saw her behind the bar making drinks for everyone. Parking is easy and findable out front as this is a make up your own parking spot kind of thing. Watch out for the large pot holes and cute dogs that roam the lot. I'm not sure if these doggies are homeless, they don't look like it because they are fatties, but that may because they know there's good food to be had at Enkai! read more
