Amalia Cafe was our first meal off resort after we arrived in St. Thomas. Although it's a little bit difficult to find, it's not too far off the main road. You'll have to park in one of the public parking lots and walk over to it. It's tucked away in an alley almost like some of the restaurants in New Orleans and Savannah. The seating area is very nice and the tile work on the floor gives it a nice touch. We were greeted by very friendly server named Adam and seated immediately. He did an outstanding job and was extremely friendly. We ordered some bread to get us started and it was very tasty. They looked like normal dinner rolls, but once you bite into them, you discovered that they are actually rye bread. Quite an unusual but delicious twist on dinner rolls. My wife ordered the chicken piccata and I ordered the paella. Both dishes were exceptional. My wife's chicken piccata had just the right amount of capers and a very delicious flavor. The chicken was grilled instead of flattened and breaded, but it was still very good. The paella had an amazing flavor to it, however, it took less than 15 to 20 minutes to make so I do not feel it got all the flavors that it could've had. I judge paella based on what I have had at Barcelona bistro at home which takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to cook. It was still delicious, but it is the reason I gave them four stars instead of five. Bottom line, if you are coming to St. Thomas, this place is definitely one you want to try out. read more

Food was very good and flavorful, except for the paella which was a bit bland. The rice was a tad reminiscent of dish water. It's what I would expect of a Spanish bistro in London. All flair and no flavor. That said, everything else was wonderful. The medium lobster was plentiful and reasonably priced. I've spent more at Red Lobster. The stuffed crab was fantastic. Given what we ordered, and for the area, the prices were reasonable. Service was great and friendly. The downtown location is right off the water. Amazing! Welcoming! Tasty! Yes, these are just a few words to describe the experience we had at Amalia. We wanted a salad and some seafood. Ordered the Ceasar and the Zarzuela (sp?). I had the worst experience today. My family and I chose this location to have dessert because it was one of the few restaurants that was open late in the downtown area and had multiple dessert options, and great reviews. Upon arriving we waited a few minutes before someone was able to get to us. A guy seated us and then a female waiter approached us. Immediately she gave her name which I won't disclose out of respect. Once stating her name she went right in to giving us the daily specials then proceeds to ask for our drink order. I asked for the dessert menu and she response was, is that all you're having? I answered, yes and drinks too. She then turns to the rest of my party to say, and what are you having? They answered, "dessert and drinks too." She response with, "then y'all can sit outside!" How rude?! It was so rude and degrading! Who would stay to eat or spend money after that is wild! This service doesn't even deserve one star!! The service was trash and I hate that my family had to experience such. I would not recommend this place especially if you're just ordering dessert and drinks, apparently it's frowned upon or not worthy of their time! 0/10 read more

Note: This review is for the bar outside in the alley. While roaming around downtown shopping I highly recommend grabbing a drink from this little mid-alley bar. It's a great location, they have pretty much everything you could want, and the bartender is kind and easy on the eyes. As we strolled we stopped for a sip and were treated to a delightful experience. Just a quick round of beers and bloodys and we were on our way but the atmosphere of this bar's location, being in the alley, gives the right kind of chill vibes we craved. Depending on the time of day you'll find that it's almost entirely shaded too, making it very easy to let one drink become two... become three... Attended restaurant during carnival. Our server was Manny. He described the specials well, gave food recommendations, gave a full description of the menu. He also discussed the various concerts occurring during the week. Food was just ok. I had the Zarzuela de Mariscos. It is a spicy tomato based seafood dish with Costa Brava-style Seafood Casserole of Snapper,Grouper, Salmon, Mussels, Clams and Shrimp served with by Rice. I wasnt the greatest fan of this dish. The issue is Manny adding his own gratuity to a paper written bill and signing my name on the credit card statement. Gratuity on the menu is added to parties of 5 or more. As a former server who has just raved about the great service i received, I am appalled at this behavior This is illegal and I will be reporting him to the manager and disputing it with my bank. Assuming a party of 3 won't tip properly because they're black is insane. He needs further training and to be fired. read more

My family and I headed here for dinner the other night--and we loved it! We were immediately drawn in by the beautiful, quaint, European-style outdoor dining area. It was perfect and made for a lovely evening. Our server was excellent and attentive. The food may come out a bit more slowly than some might expect, but I recognize this as a cultural difference. Honestly, it enhances the experience, giving more time for conversation and fellowship. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal--from the warm rolls at the start to the entrées and dessert. I had the Chicken Piccata, which was fantastic, and finished with a crème brûlée. Everything was top-notch and absolutely delicious. I should mention--I know the owner's daughter, which is what first brought this place to our attention. But even if we hadn't had that connection, I think we would've stumbled on something truly special here. Stopped by Amalia Cafe for dinner this evening, a short dinghy ride from St. Thomas Bay.... within walking distance of the dingy dock. Very nice dinner. Half the table shared a pitcher of sangria, the red variety, which was not too sweet, full of fruit and pretty darn tasty! The first courses were gazpacho and piquillo rellenos shared with the table. The soup was good, the peppers stuffed with cheese and cod, smothered in a tomato sauce was better! The shared entree was zarsuelos mariscos ... very tasty! Definitely one of the premier restaurants in the historic part of Charlotte Amalie. I dined here twice while vacationing in St. Thomas and both times the service, staff, food, and experience was exquisite. The staff is top tier, very friendly and attentive to your needs. I also enjoyed the upscale atmosphere and class the restaurant exudes. Definitely recommend and will dine here again if ever visiting St. Thomas again. read more

First off our server, Bella was absolutely amazing! The place sits down a little alley covered with umbrellas and great foliage. We started with the octopus and the stuffed peppers. I cannot.Absolutely delicious!! Caesar salad was amazing. House made croutons and all. Dinner was the lamb chops which were cooked to perfection and a seafood dish in an amazing red sauce. We visited this quaint location during our cruise on the Celebrity Beyond 6/25/25. We were shopping in the center, picking out some beautiful jewelry, and my husband found this oval bar in the center of it all. There, he met Cara, the bartender. Immediately hitting it off, drinks began pouring. The rest of our crew came outside and had a few with her as well. Great Mai Tai's and Rum Punch! She made our son a frozen Dirty Shirley, which he loved! Our daughter wasn't feeling well, and Cara was so kind to snag some bread from Amalie. She was such a gem, telling us about all the great spots to visit, how she started her journey in St. Thomas, but mostly welcomed us to her island paradise. We got seated at 7:00 PM. Someone other than the waiter came to greet us to get us started with water. It took us an hour plus to get our food with a party of five. Our waitress didn't even come back to check if we needed more water and it was so hot outside. We were really dying of thirst . I'm usually very easy-going and do not ever write a review or complaint . So we didn't even get to finish our food we asked for the tab and took it to go. This was one of our favorite restaurant visits while in St. Thomas. We had not been here on previous trips, but were glad we tried it out. They had a great menu with a Spanish flair, as well as other menu options for those looking for more traditional options. I had the zarzuela de mariscos, which was amazing. As much as I was in the mood for a good paella, I had to try this, and I was not disappointed. Others in our party all enjoyed their dishes and agreed this was the dining highlight of our trip. We loved the outdoor atmosphere. Coming just before sunset made it a great dining experience. We came when cruise ships were not in port, so we had a very quiet and enjoyable dining environment. We had an early seating around 5:30, so for a while, we had the whole patio to ourselves, which was nice. It filled in as the night went on. Service was very pleasant and attentive. We got to USVI on Sunday. This was a restaurant that had really good reviews. That being said, we went there. The atmosphere was spectacular! It is in an alleyway that is cobblestone & brick walkways. Very quaint! Our waiter, JB was amazing! He took the time to answer all our questions about the menu as well as the island. This was the very first restaurant we visited upon arriving in St. Thomas. In normal times I would probably give it a 4. But we had a harrowing 2 days of adventure/travel to even get to the island. After finally arriving, getting here, and having an excellent sit-down meal in their outside dining area, we finally felt relaxed. The weather was warm, the wind was perfect, the server had a smile, and the ambiance was perfect. Was the food special? It wasn't overly creative, but it was very delicious. The mushrooms and shrimp apps were so good (we dipped our bread into that sauce with no regrets). And I savored every bite of my seafood casserole. We stopped in for lunch. I got the salt fish and potato stuffed pequillo peppers which was an appetizer. My husband got the jerk ribeye with potatoes and spinach. I got a white sangria while my husband got the red. We both liked the red better. The service was nice. We sat on the patio with a wonderful breeze. Not really sure if there was other seating. This was our first dinner in St.Thomas! The ambience was very nice the restaurant very quaint and the staff very friendly. The food was very expensive and delicious. We had a nice mixture of food I had the lamb chops they were very tasty. my son had the lobster Alfredo and he thoroughly enjoyed that. My daughter had a roast I believe and she said it was so tender and nicely seasoned. My husband had a mixed seafood dish. I will attach some pics below. We had a good time here. Amalia's Cafe is a lovely open air restaurant in the Palm Passage of Charlotte Amalie. We arrived an hour early for our reservation. We were gladly welcomed and enjoyed an amazing mojito made by Cara with fresh mint from the garden. Cara is one of the extraordinary servers you find on rare occasions. She made our evening exceptional! The food was prepared by an accomplished chef with an excellent combination of flavors and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the paella and Cara recommended the perfect wine to accompany the meal. The ambiance was just right with background acoustic Spanish guitar music. The prices were very reasonable, especially compared to what our hotel had to offer. We would highly recommend making the trip into Charlotte Amalie to visit this delightful restaurant. read more

Located in a small passageway in the downtown area in St Thomas USVI. I was greeted by the most friendliest bartender/server outside of the restaurant named "Rosie". She had a positive attitude and apparently loved the restaurant herself. The level of confidence in the service and food was the main reason I decided to give it a try. The garlic shrimp and curry chicken lentil soup was exceptional! As I glanced around customers were enjoying mixed grills, lamb shanks etc. EVERYONE was extremely pleased with the food, ambience and cocktails. Wonderful little courtyard cafe in the cruise ship landing zone in Charlotte Amalie. We went when there were no ships at port so it was quiet and peaceful. We went for dinner and the lighting and ambiance were delightful. We had the calamari and grilled cuttlefish for appetizers, Salpicon de Maricosa Salad, Paella, Salmon Ammiel, and Zarzuela de Maricosa. All were excellent! (Note: Paella is usually too salty for me, but was ok here. The zarzuela was a bit salty, but not at the level of most Spanish restaurants.) The sangria was not good but the rollls were. Our server (Abby) was very attentive and did a great job. (Bottled water and bread are not on the menu, but they charge for them. I don't expect bottled water to be free, but the price should be posted.) We had a good time and enjoyed the food. I recommend going at night when there are no cruise ships so you can enjoy a relaxing evening. read more

We did not dine here as 1) we couldn't get a table on a pouring evening since we didn't make a reservation ahead of time and 2) the hostess did not wear a mask as she was speaking to us, and we felt very uncomfortable about that. The place did look charming and there were a lot of diners that seem to be enjoying their meals. Again, not wearing a mask really scared us, regardless how good the food might taste. The food is maybe a 4 star (for the island, not for Spain or NYC standards...) but the service was SO slow that it made all the bad points seem all that much worse. Food overall was just ok, nothing came out hot enough and they charged for everything from bread ($4) to water ($7) without telling us (and it's nowhere on the menu). Normally I would let that slip, but it took a full hour from when we sat down, to when the bread actually arrived to the table. If there is THAT much of a delay, shouldn't the bread be free at least? Grilled Octopus: this was ok, good flavor and chewy texture but I expected it to be more hot and smoky if it's 'grilled'. I was thoroughly confused by the bland potato slices they served with it - I have no idea what value they added. Paella: this was better (but don't expect it to be comparable to Spain), but had somewhat right saffron seasoning, and the seafood was fresh. Mussels on smaller side but shrimps were big! Lobster: Honestly the risotto cakes were the best part of this dish. The lobster was good, though nothing that blows ur mind. They did add some baked crab meat on top which was pretty good. read more

Okay food, great service If I could give a higher rating just based on the service - I would. But the food was just so okay, I can't give more than three stars. We ordered the paella and the chicken piccata. I didn't personally try the paella (shellfish allergy) but my husband was very underwhelmed. Also, one of the shrimp in the dish had not been properly cleaned and the intestine track was still in it! So gross!! The chicken in the chicken piccata tasted like it was completely unseasoned. The sauce was so yummy but, the CHICKEN in the chicken piccata should be the star of the show. It wasn't. The red sangria was very nice and I recommend a glass with dinner.
