I genuinely think I'm nicer than the average tipper, so I try to be understanding when things don't go perfectly. It took about 20 minutes for us to be greeted by our server. Fair enough, I can forgive a single mistake. Once we were greeted, our server seemed to realize that, for as nice of a place as this was, the wait while the restaurant wasn't busy (there was maybe five tables sat) really wasn't acceptable, so we were given a complimentary drink. After ordering bruschetta and a cheese board, I expected things to move a little quicker since they were two fairly simple appetizers. Our bruschetta and espresso martini arrived, and both were delicious and well worth the price; no complaints there. Unfortunately, our cheese board was forgotten. Since it was obviously missed, our very kind server offered us a complimentary espresso martini which was second complimentary beverage, which was delicious. Recognizing that the overall service had been subpar, our server also offered us a free dessert. We were given the crème brûlée, which was just okay and a little too sweet for my taste and also cold. All in all, considering how slow the service was despite there being very few tables, there were more delays and mistakes than there should have been. That said, our server did a good job of making up for it with the complimentary drinks and dessert. Overall, the food was decent and the view was great. I would come back for cocktails and appetizers, but probably not for a full meal. We still tipped well higher than average because our server was extremely apologetic for the sub-par service, and made up for it in comped orders. We had a great experience dining at Eno Vino Downtown last Saturday evening. The service from Abby was simply amazing, and it made the whole evening event so pleasant. We went there to celebrate the 50th birthday of a friend from New York who was in town for the art fair. Abby was attentive, with good recommendations. She's such a sweetheart. I was staying in the hotel on a business trip and arrived later on a Sunday evening. Most of the other restaurants in the area were closed, so figured it was easiest to have dinner here. As a solo female diner, it's always intimidating to eat alone. When I arrived, I asked to sit at the bar, but saw free spots at the tables along the window. It was a beautiful night and I figured I was alone and could watch the sunset. I asked the bartender if I could sit there and she said yes, but I would have to order with a waiter. We'll I waited for a good 20 minutes without anyone checking on me before moving to the bar. The bar was really no better. Service was abysmal and the bartenders were not so friendly. The bar was also not well kept with glassware and napkins still in my space from the previous patron. I had to ask for water, napkin and utensils after my food came. I also had to ask for another drink, while the 2 girls next to me were attended to constantly. I ended up ordering the shrimp risotto and while tasty, it was too salty after a few bites. I went here for my birthday and it ended up being a really lovely experience. The atmosphere feels upscale yet comfortable, and the view of the Capitol makes the whole evening feel extra special. The shareable plates worked perfectly for our group, and most of the dishes were flavorful and beautifully prepared. For drinks we had the pomegranate mojito and garden party cocktails were both good. But the Scorpio Rising was the favorite drink. For food we tried a few new items. The yuca was interesting but seemed odd and needed more flavor. We really liked the empanada and Brussel sprouts especially the cream sauce with the empanada. I've been here a few times for work events and drinks/snacks. The atmosphere is gorgeous, possibly one of the best views in Madison. The food is surprisingly hit or miss for the price. Yesterday I stopped by with a couple of friends for happy hour. I had the green goddess drink which was excruciatingly sour. My friend ordered the pomegranate mule, which was nice. We ordered two snacks to share: the tuna tartare and the carpaccio. The tuna tartare was tasty, balanced, and creative. I liked the crispy quinoa and the freshness of the yogurt sauce. The carpaccio was horrible. The cuts were sloppy. There was very little meat and a heaping pile of microgreens with poorly-sliced red onion. The broth was sour beyond belief and the fact that it was served with tortilla chips made no sense at all. It seemed like two different chefs wrote the recipes and prepared the dishes. I think I'll wait until another work-sponsored event to return. I'd rather not play roulette with the menu. read more

My wife and I have been Eno Vino guests since its early West Side days and have dined Downtown many times. On Saturday, Oct 18, 2025, we stopped in for dinner and were met with the most dismissive and unwelcoming reception we've ever experienced. Three hosts stood at the desk -- one older gentleman and two younger women. The young woman who helped us said she'd been with Eno Vino six months. When I asked about dining-room reservations, she curtly said "no." When I asked how to make one, she replied, "You call in for a reservation," in a patronizing tone. Later she asked if I lived in Madison -- an irrelevant and inappropriate question. Moments later, we found open reservations online for 5:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The dining room manager (a tattooed young woman) called it an "oversight" but refused to have the hostess come apologize. When I asked to speak with her, the manager said she was "fearful" of how the hostess might handle the conversation. That word -- fearful -- spoke volumes. After years of being regular guests, this experience left us feeling unwelcome, unwanted, and profiled. Eno Vino has long been one of Madison's top dining spots -- but what happened Saturday showed how quickly poor front-of-house behavior can damage a brand's reputation. We've contacted management directly and hope they address this swiftly. Until then, I'd encourage leadership to retrain staff on respect, inclusion, and hospitality -- values that should never depend on who walks through the door. read more

I had an amazing birthday dinner here. The restaurant is very classy with amazing views of the capital building. Taylor C took care of us. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and allergy information (gluten and peanut/legumes). She brought wine samples so I could pick a dry red wine that would accompany my meal - not surprisingly, I ended up picking her favorite wine and it was perfect. This restaurant specializes in small plates and shareables. I ordered 3 plates and had some leftovers to take home (I did NOT share with my dining guest). They have a gluten-friendly menu. Everything was beautifully prepared and brought out with plenty of time between courses. I started with the roasted beet salad with goat cheese (this ended up being my favorite of the three). They whipped the goat cheese and somehow that made it crazy addictive. Yum! My next choice was the seared scallops that came with grilled onions and sliced sausage in a bed of corn. I am not much of a sausage person so I didn't eat much of the sausage but made quick work of the seared scallops and onions. I ended with a filet with potatoes, oyster mushroom and peas in a Malbec reduction. This was good but the filet was a bit unevenly cooked. I had ordered medium rare, and about have of the filet was medium. The most beautiful dish that we tried was the "Crispy" lobster. While, sadly, not gluten-free, both the presentation and taste (I was told) were five stars. The food was, indeed, a special experience that we really enjoyed. About the drinks: so many choices!! All of the wines that I sampled would have been excellent choices, at a fair price point. There are so many interesting cocktails to pick from. Here again, the presentation of the cocktails makes it a special experience. Both of us loved the "Jalop-In Your Business" cocktail with jalapeno-infused tequila. The server was really attentive and friendly and brought our orders in a timely manner. The crispy lobster was to die for! It had this peach dressing and the lobster was so tender and crispy. It also has slaw filling inside which perfected the meal. The cheeseboard had fresh fruit and variety of cheeses, and we ordered moscato and prosecco to pair it off.
