We honestly only stopped in Entoeca Barbernini because a) my feet were hurting and b) we needed wifi so we could figure out which direction to walk in next. The large open front drew us in and we found a table quickly. You order drinks at the bar, but a small selection of snacks were dropped a the table by the friendly waiters. Everyone serving was really friendly and seemed to get along with each other, including taking the piss out of each other's flowery jackets... There's not much more to report on this occasion other than how amazing their wifi connection is. Walked in for a low price lunch, so expectations were reasonable for a 10-15 euro meal. The following is why you shouldn't go here: 1) when asked waiter said wine would be cold, but brought it warm. Upon sending back, brought another warm glass, then solved with ice. 2) rigatoni wasn't al dente (which I have loved all over Italy), it was uncooked. 3) there was a huge stem of spice, not a leaf, a stem, in the lasagna. 4) when all this was brought to waiter's attention, he just shrugged, asked why we hadn't said so before, and ran the card. read more

TL;DR - Very good food, reasonable prices and not the tourist trap it may look like. The real reason to come is the wonderful service by some of the best people in the city. I never order gnocchi out. I've been spoiled by my mother's recipe, passed down from her grandfather from Treviso. Enoteca Barberini marks one of a few places that gets it right. It may seem like a tourist stop right off the metro (and to certain degree it may be - you're in Rome, of course they will try to be convenient for travelers), but this should not dissuade you from trying it out. I'm even a bit of a snob concerning tourist traps and I didn't mind this at all - don't let the surrounding hubbub of central Rome paint your opinion until you've tried it out. You'll find some wonderful Roman standards with sauces like amatriciana, cacio e pepe, ragu, and more. My personal favorite was the pesto gnocchi. With fresh basil and beautiful cherry tomatoes, it felt like a caprese salad had been transformed into pasta dish. The gnocchi melted away in my mouth, unlike the standard dense dumplings one finds in the US. There is an excellent assortment of brusscheti, and a tirimisu that will motivate you to continue your trek across Rome - if only so you can survive the day and return to try it again! The real reason to come here is the excellent service. I came with a group of students studying abroad - understandably a hassle. Every person there made it their mission to be friendly and informative about the food we were eating. From those of us who had some experience with the food and language, to those who didn't know a prosciutto from a bruschetta, they were eager to explain the menu, make sure we knew how to let a good wine breathe, offer up suggestions, and make a few jokes. I particularly remember the bartender Emmanuelle being one of the nicest people I met in Rome (In addition to the rest of the staff - but unfortunately his is the only name I remember!) Love this place. The food was amazing - from a pizza with gorgonzola and pears to a pasta with fresh seafood. We enjoyed a welcome prosecco and then ordered a wine to go with our meals. Of course we shared and sampled each others' dishes and savored every one of them. Live music started a little after 8 pm and it was as excellent as the food. After using Yelp to find a spot that was open nearby, only to find out it was closed, we ended up just heading in to Enoteca Barberini. Service was helpful and their English was molto bene - which is great since our Italian collectively sucks. What else sucks? The food. I legitimately had the worst dish I have ever paid for in a restaurant here (the steak with mushrooms and arugula). The mushrooms tasted odd and bland and had a texture like they had been rehydrated. The steak was okay, but not at all great. My salad to start was better, but the pears in it were hard and flavorless. The arrabiatta was so spicy that it was best to wait a few minutes between bites for the fire in your mouth to subside. The winner for me was the oxtail pasta. The pasta was chewy, thick, al dente goodness, and the oxtail sauce was very good, though too salty and greasy to be a serious standout. Drinks were tasty at least. read more

If the front patio is crowded and if you prefer to sit outside, don't worry, they have another patio out back in a nice, quaint alley where you can still hear the music. Out of all the places we ate in Rome, this place really stood out to me. The food was good, the wine was great and the service was phenomenal! I truly enjoyed the live music they had there rockin the place late nights. A very welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the big city craziness that is right outside the doors! Know this place is geared towards out of towners, but there was good mix of locals amidst the British us we Americans. The atmosphere is a little loud, but fun. Good wine selection. Food was delicious. We had four cheese gnocchi, pizza with prosciutto and spicy salami, rigatoni carbonarra, and spinach/sage ravioli. Bruschetta to start. I started out with a four for the food and atmosphere. The reason for the five rating is the service. Our server was Olsi. He was unbelievably friendly and funny. Would like to give this place 3.5 stars. Ate here after wandering in the rain for hours to see bits of Rome. Wine was decent, especially for happy hour. We shared a salad (love the pasta and breads but seriously needed a fresh vegetable!) and a margharita pizza (wasn't as good as I'd hoped) with cappuccino and espresso afterwards (biscotti included was yummy!). Ate here before leaving Rome, food was ok and so was the service. We were not told until after our meal that they did not take credit cards so we had to go to ATM and incur the withdrawal fees.
