Avoid the allergy department of this practice. While their ENT doctors are excellent, the allergy department operates with inexcusable inefficiency. After allergy testing five weeks ago, I was promised immunotherapy would begin within three weeks. Nearly five weeks later, the practice cannot locate my serum vials or confirm if they've been manufactured. Staff have no tracking system, provide no updates unless I call, and offer no solutions. There is clearly no management oversight of inventory or patient communication. Save yourself time and frustration by seeking treatment at Allergy Express or other practices that maintain basic operational standards. read more

I received an email two days before my appointment asking me to check in for a different time than I had scheduled, and I wasn't available. I tried calling to clarify but was on hold for so long I eventually used their chat. The person I chatted with told me they had me down for the second later appointment and didn't know why it had been changed. Fine, maybe this was a one time mistake. So I canceled and rescheduled through the portal and of course, the same thing happens again. I choose appointments that work with my schedule and can't rearrange things at the last minute. Staff has changed and they disregard you when you go up to the desk so you are standing there awkwardly for a bit. However, the appointment was cut at the end by a staff member who poked her head in and said Dr K was needed elsewhere before I got a clear answer to all my questions. It didn't appear to be a life or death emergency and I was left with the feeling that appointments are timed and interrupted if they begin to go over. Dr's offices are not assembly lines and feedback from patients should be obtained before the appointment is concluded. Treatment: 4 stars, I guess. I saw two doctors here for minor allergy issues -- they were professional and friendly and gave me a path forward. Wait-time: Points off here. The first time I went, I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time, at which point I asked and was told it'd be another HOUR beyond that, so I rescheduled. The second time I went, I allowed more time -- it took about 50 minutes past my appointment time to get seen. The third visit, for a follow-up, it took just 30 minutes past my appointment time. Cost: I'm not factoring this in my star-rating, since this has more to do with our crazy health care system, but even with my okay (bronze-level) insurance, the visits cost me $200+ for appointment and to look in my nose, and $300+ for allergy tests. read more

I have REAL issues, from being completely deaf on one side, hearing impaired on the other, severe allergies and now TMJ. I will start by letting you all know I worked in the healthcare industry so I am VERY careful in doing my research before seeing any doctors. I started with this practice in SoHo with Dr. Lopez. Dr. Smouha - Hands down one of the top and most knowledgeable otolaryngologists on the east coast. He performed 2 surgeries on me when he was at Mount Sinai. He is now part of there team at the 5th Ave location. Dr. Lopez - An ENT who is always on top of his game. He listens, asks the right questions, stays on top of the latest greatest treatments. Has truly saved me as I was continuously taking antibiotic to treat my sinus conditions. He is not only knowledgeable but super compassionate. Dr. Kopyltsova - Astoria location was HIGHLY recommended by Dr Lopez. She advised me on what she feels is the right treatment plan for my allergies. So far I'm feeling great! Crystal - nurse Astoria location what a sweetheart!!! I meet with her every week to administer my allergy shots. She really brightens up my day. I have been going to get allergy shots at this location for about a year now. The front staff is extremely helpful and will work with you to get you signed in, and take care of scheduling and payments. And there is hardly any wait time. They do their BEST to accommodate your schedule and needs. Then there are the nurses who give the shots. Very gentle and patient with even the most grouchy clients (especially me!). They have even added more availability for shots (as if the staff and doctors here don't work hard enough). Finally, Dr. K. is a freakin rockstar!! She is probably the most patient and caring doctor that I have ever had in my 40 years as a grizzled New Yorker. She took the time to listen to me, ask and answer questions, and come up with a treatment plan WITH you, not FOR you. In my opinion, she's a trendsetter and more doctors should aspire to be this way. Great receptionist staff and usually excellent staff for allergy injections , however be very careful because some of the shot girls are horrible. They have one job, and that job is to give ppl allergy shots. The incompetent female I had was clueless as to how to administer a subcutaneous injection, instead she injected the shots into my muscle causing severe pain that lasted over twenty four hours, not to mention my butt looked like J-los, and I'm a man. Doctor noticed my throat was red and never gave me appropriate medicine for my issue. Instead gave me nebulizer for asthma that I don't have. Called back to have him change my script-ion and instead he wanted me to comeback to see my throat again a day after he already saw me. Please people don't go to this Doctors office. They just want to make you a pawn to keep coming back so they can squeeze your insurance for more money. Had a very terrible experience and hopefully people don't go there for a serious issue. Dr. Should have known better to give me medicine for my throat when he noticed it and informed me of it. Hope they don't due this again. It was my first and last time going there. read more

This doctor claimed they took my insurance. I confirmed they took it several times and then they forced me to sign a waiver that said that maybe there are extra fees I have to pay if my insurance does not cover the service. I receive a bill for $453. For 10 minutes of their time they charged insurance over $1000. I asked how much it is for the testing and they could not answer, only when I got the bill for the charge did I see the cost which is clearly standard for them. They do the same test on every patient multiple times a day, wouldn't they know what the cost is for the test when a patient asks? Of course they just want to make money on every patient. They did not even help me, it was a total waste of time. They tried to sell me on blood testing however I declined. I still have severe allergies and they said I am not allergic to anything but a blood test may tell me where I am sure they can steal more money from me. No thank you, I would not go to this allergist, save your energy, time and money. read more

I would recommend anyone to come here. Dr. Wakefield is down to earth, very pleasant, and so kind. The rest of the staff was very sweet as well. I'm terrified of ENT visits because of ear issues I've had all my life. I'm very skiddish when it comes to anyone touching it or even looking in it. This was my first time at this office or seeing her, and it was my first time going to an ENT without my mom. (I swear I'm an adult.. but my mom is an adultier adult and I'm a baby about going to the ENT. Haha!) Dr. Wakefield recognized that I was tense and helped me try to stay calm throughout the visit. Don't waste your time and save yourself the nightmare you're probably going to encounter with your insurance company because the front desk staff is incompetent, unprofessional, rude, and clearly don't check or verify patient insurance prior to visits. I made my first appointment at this clinic since I saw they were an in network provider for my insurance. My specific insurance does NOT require referrals to specialists, simply co-pays. However, because the front desk staff does not verify insurance or doesn't seem to understand that every plan is different even under a larger insurance company, they insisted on arguing with me and essentially rejected my appointment because I didn't have a referral. They did not want to take the time out of their day to call my insurance company or check online at the website to see what my benefits are. This is concerning to me, as I'm also a healthcare provider that at times requires referrals from PCPs. What's concerning is, if there is no one at the front desk checking or verifying patient benefits and insurance eligibility, how are the providers going to know what codes and services they can bill for without this information in advance?? As a provider, I have to ensure I don't bill for things that insurance will deny because when the patient gets hit with a bill, and they weren't expecting it, it can ruin your relationship with that patient. This is business 101- be transparent, list services and cost upfront, verify who is paying! Save yourself the mess you'll deal with from this company and these people. Go someplace that understands your benefits and can confirm what you require before your first visit, and ensure that all services and costs are transparent. Otherwise, they're going to hit you with a bill and tell you "have a nice day." Avoid this place. Seriously. read more

Dr. Tamekia Wakefield and her team provide an excellent level of care. From the moment we met Dr. Wakefield she made us feel at ease and after a thorough exam of our newborn son she spent the time to explain our options and answer all of our questions. A true professional. I would have given a 5 star review but one of the three receptionists has zero concept of customer service. We had a 9am appointment but our 5 day old son had 2 diaper blowouts in a row right before leaving for the doctor's office. We called ahead to let the office know we would be a little late and the kind woman who answered the phone was helpful and assured us it wouldn't be a problem. Upon arrival the receptionist in question wouldn't even give us eye contact as we apologized repeatedly for being late. She loudly announced how late we were to the exact minute in a dismissive manner. Thankfully a very warm and understanding receptionist stepped in as she could see we were distressed by the idea of being turned away due to lateness. Overall it was a shocking experience to be greeted with such disdain and had us immediately questioning if we would ever return to this practice. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone due to shady management and incompetent customer serviceI visited the office last July for headaches and pain on my nose and throat. I was also inquiring about a surgery for deviated septum. I was examined by Doctor Poulos. He seemed knowledgeable and kind. Suggested to hold for the surgery and recommended to do an allergy test at the same office. Went to front desk to pay and I was advised that a bill would send to me. They scheduled my appointment with the allergist for later the same day. I was told I allergic to dust. I asked again the front desk for the bill and I was told that it will be sent to me. A month passed and no bill. I called in and my address was wrong. Found out that the bill was for 2500$, around the amount of my deductible. Called in to make a Payment with American Express, they wouldn't take it. Btw their billing department is based in a different office. I asked for a payment plan and they offered me one with 6 payments. Called in recently to inquire about my balance and possibly make the final payment and I was told that my bill was at collections. Finally found out that my bill was at collections by mistake. read more
