They'll tell you your car is "ready and waiting" even when they know it's damaged -- then block you from anyone who can fix it. The 30-Minute Lie: My pickup was 6:00 PM. I called at 4:30 PM to confirm my SUV was ready -- they said YES, come get it. I arrived at 5:00 PM, paid in full, and immediately after taking my money they told me the SUV came in damaged. They knew for that entire 30-minute window (or longer) that the car was damaged, yet confirmed it was ready and let me pay anyway. Then stuck me with a Toyota Camry downgrade and I missed my $250 Sunday tour with my kids. Management Blocked Everywhere: On-site, they refused to get management. Corporate? Same thing -- rudeness, blame ("you came early"), and refusal to escalate. It felt like a system designed to keep customers away from anyone with authority. I had to force my way through. The "Fix" That Came Too Late: After my trip, I called back and refused to speak to the representative at all -- just repeated "management" until they transferred me. Only then did I get: 20% total discount (bumped from 10%) Immediate deposit refund (not the 20-day hold) $50 gas fee waived Management tried -- the immediate refund and gas waiver showed they recognized the failure. But 80 in credits doesn't replace the250 non-refundable tour or the Sunday with my children that their lie destroyed. The solution came after the damage was done, and only because I bypassed their gatekeeping system entirely. If you rent here: Confirm your car status before you pay. Once they have your money, you're trapped in a system designed to wear you down until you give up or force your way to someone with authority. The location didn't save my trip -- I had to salvage what I could after the fact. Avoid.

There aren't a lot of local car rental places, so we're lucky that this is a good one. Yes, if you…read morego out of the city you can find newer cars with lower rates. But in a time of pandemic, if you're literally looking for a car rental in walking distance of Kensington/Windsor terrace, I'd recommend this one. Call to make a booking, or you can try just showing up on the day. Summer hours are they're only open Monday through Friday, and they close early on Fridays. I don't know how changeable their rates are, but we took a car for a week for $450 (total, including tax etc). That's about what we'd have paid at empire over in crown heights, but again, the location was really important for us with covid. If your credit card doesn't cover collision insurance, that's an extra $10 per day. The cars are not new, they have mileage and wear and tear, but they work. We felt confident that they were seriously cleaning between customers. Everyone is masked. Nice people. You don't have to go inside to do paperwork, just hand your card and license through the door and they'll hand you back the receipt to sign. Bring your own ez pass if you'll be driving anywhere with tolls.

When I get into it, the car has 90K miles on it and no back up camera. Also the mileage was reversed. Despite giving me an unsafe vehicle that I stuck with... they wanted to charge me for gas. I had notified the receptionist that i will be going 2,000 miles and need a safe and reliable vehicle to go the distance. Amore representative charged me $20 a day on top of the standard price for extra mileage. They gave me a vehicle and assured me that it is functional in every way. The same night i left for my trip, within hours the check engine light came on. At the time it was night and i was already a far distance away. Within 24 hours the air conditioner in the car ceased to work. I had no cell phone reception, and was 1,000 miles away. It was late August and air temperatures was in the 90's. I had spent my trip miserable with a dysfunctional car in extreme humidity barely being able to sit in the car during the day. Driving back 1000 miles with no AC was pure hell! Upon arrival back i submitted to the Amore representative all the evidence in which they had failed to provide me a safe vehicle, able to take on the additional mileage they charged me for. The vehicle they rented to me was unsafe, unclean, and not what i paid for. They had also charged extra for gas, and later on put a $3,000 charge on my account with no explanation. AVOID BY ALL MEANS!!!! Renting from them is DANGEROUS, they are schemers and have no regard for human safety.

I was told that the fare was $40 to which i agreed to pay. The driver arrived on time and took me to Penn Station where I quickly produced my credit card to pay him. The driver flew into rage mode and demanded cash as this company does not deal in credit cards. No one advised me that it was cash only and while I tried to explain this the driver was Hispanic and seemingly spoke very very limited english. all that I could discern was that i rode knowingly that it was cash, and I did not have the money. there were no signs in his car announcing that this was cash only. he attempted to seize my laptop to get his money...the ride was $40 and I had $30 but his rage grew, and he parked his car and kept saying ATM. He talked to the local field NYPD who also spoke Spanish and left his car unattended to insist that i walk until i found an atm. the first one i found was broken; i kept walking with him on my heels speaking in Spanish and i growing more fearful because he was behind me. I finally found an atm, got $20 and asked for my $10 back in exchange for the $20 but he refused and got a 22% tip for horrific and terrifying service. I have no receipt for my $50 and cannot file a claim to be reimbursed. Grateful to have my life so the loss of $50 is really a small price to pay. I would never ever use this service again. Furthermore, I strongly have recommended that the elected official who recommended this company never use them again for any reason not even a dire emergency. I recognize that a few companies may deal in cash only but how unsafe is it to transport people and have cash on them jeopardizing lives and creating the likelihood that these employees will be robbed! Perhaps this company should reevaluate their procedures as trips can be in excess of $100 and who travels with that much cash on hand? They kept saying they were close by but I still waited close to an hour. I'm currently at the airport waiting for a car and it's been 30 minutes. They keep saying a few minutes but they're not here.
