This was the worst experience I have ever had with renting a car. I will never rent from NextCar…read moreagain. Several things happened which were unacceptable. First, I called before coming all the way to the Catonsville, Maryland location because I had to catch a Lyft. I asked if the rental was ready and Shakira (I believe) answered "Yes. When I arrived, she asked me who I had my car insurance with and I told her. She said she was on hold with them which I thought was funny because I'd just turned in a Hertz rental which only needed my company and policy number. She said that she needed to confirm that I had insurance with my carrier as well as other information. Second, as I was being checked in, after she swiped my license, Shakira asked when was the last time I rented from NextCar and I said, "I don't remember." She said there was a "Do not rent" alert and I had to call a number. I was livid! I said, "Why didn't you tell me that before I came all the way here?" She said, "I hadn't swiped your license." I'd brought all of my belongings because I had to go to work. By now, I'm running late and upset that I hadn't extended my first rental. So, I called the number just for the woman to say that she had to clear a hold (that shouldn't have ever existed) and would call Shakira back in a few minutes. After they hung up, Shakira asked for my insurance card. Third, as she continued to be on hold with my insurance company, I pulled up my insurance coverage on my phone and showed Shakira my policy and coverages, but that was not good enough. She had to continue to wait for my insurance company to pick up....Ugh!!! By now, I'm really running late for work, but they aren't letting up. So, after waiting 30 minutes, someone finally answered. They had to verify all of these coverages and ask questions. It was waaaay more than Hertz, Budget, Dollar or any other rental company needed. This should have been taken care of ahead of time especially when I called. Fourth, after all of that, NextCar placed a $250.00 hold on my credit card for 14-18 DAYS!!!! That's insane. Remind you that this was for only a 24 hour rental. Most companies charge $200.00 for a 3 day hold at most. Anyway, I was stuck and by now, very late for work. BTW, I'd also asked for their headquarters and Shakira gave me an address and phone number on a Post-It note. Fifth, when I finally walked out to the car, it was absolutely disgusting!!! The outside was dirty and had stains all over it; bird poop on the roof, trunk, back window; the windshield was completely filthy; it was a Versa covered with stains from bumper to bumper. I mean totally dirty and disgustingly nasty!! Sixth, after all of that, as I left, she never said, "Thank you." And I am giving them MY business and money. So tacky! I gladly returned the car the next day. This was the worst customer service and car rental treatment ever! Never again. I would not recommend NextCar to anybody for your car rental needs. They have zero professionalism and customer service skills. And to think I paid market price for a Versa rental (they had a BMW in the photo).

First, the the office staff who was supposed to be helping the customers was involved in conversations with another customer that did not seem to be related to professional customer service, and it took an inordinate amount of time for him to complete that particular transaction. Since, I was sitting there waiting patiently, I ask to use the restroom and was told "its out of order", however, prior to my request to use the restroom, the office manager and used it. I saw him come out of it. It seems to me that as a business that should want to attract customers, and not send them away, the staff there could have easily allowed me to use the restroom. Now, the other area of my displeasure was after making arrangements and getting a confirmation (NCCLN10799176), I was told that the vehicle that was supposed to be held for me was not available and the staff wanted to put me in a much smaller vehicle. I then asked to speak with the onsite manager, and he was equally unable or unwilling to mediate the situation, such as making an attempt to contact another NextCar office to see if another vehicle was available or even offer an apology for this inconvenience. I opted to pick up the vehicle rather than them picking me up. The lady who assisted me was very friendly and the process was a breeze. It definitely seems as if they have streamlined their process, the entire transaction was completed from a tablet. The put me in a Nissan Juke, which I assume was what they considered comparable to my Altima. The car was clean and even came with a small complimentary pack of clorox wipes. It appears as if they are taking precautions for o keep customers safe though Covid.
