It is with great regret that I have to write that this once great business arrangement has come to…read moreend in utter disappointment. I have rented from Thrifty in Cranberry 8 separate times. Ethan handled my needs each time with total and complete professionalism. The branch and customer service of the individuals are not the problem. Everything worked great all 7 times prior to this last one. I was driving a country road last night and a Deer ran into the front right corner of the car. I didn't have time or distance to stop in reaction once it was spotted, and the stupid deer as any Driver whose been hit by one knows didn't have the common sense to know that Moving Mass of Metal = GAH MY FACE! Bent fender, busted headlight, cracked bumper, dented hood. Car can still be driven. I did what any good customer should. I called my insurance and made the claim. Then I called Thrifty the same day and reported what happened. I forwarded all information and was informed that Thrifty Corporate refuses to rent to someone when involved in an accident with one of their vehicles. Deer are considered an Act of God and covered by my insurance at no penalty to me. They are no fault accidents that just happen, and are inevitable when driving for any significant amount of time. Had I been caught drunk driving or got into an at fault accident I could see the need for this policy, but it was not at fault. I do not understand the necessity for this. It is horrible business practice, and even if you hadn't wrote me off, I am writing you off and informing everyone I can about this bad business practice. Despite good experience to this point, I can't give more than one star. If they clear this up and let me rent again I will give a 5 star praise again as I had before.

More like "Thefty" Car Rental. I was in a bind trying to get a last minute (big mistake) car…read morerental to get to work while mine is in the shop. I explained several times over the phone that I needed something fast and that I was cost sensitive and wanted something cheap. It is, after all, rather expensive to host Thanksgiving. This Dollar Rental/Thrifty Rental location quoted me a $45.00 total charge, so I grabbed a cab and headed over. When I got there, after waiting around with nobody in sight for 5-10 minutes, and futilely calling out a few times to see if anybody was around in this two room building, an employee finally shows up. She was very nice but told me that they would actually be charging me $250, plus the rental, as apparently some sort of hold. I asked her when I would get my money back and she wouldn't commit to a date, citing transactional delay etc. It was clear to me I wouldn't see my money for another week. She offered to talk to her manager, who had apparently been sitting in the next room the entire time - he had just been ignoring me when I first walked in. After he mumbles something to her with his back turned to me, she came back and apologized profusely about "the policy". I asked why she said nothing about this over the phone when I explained I needed to know the cost and that I was cost sensitive and she continued to go on about their "policy". I explained that I could not put down another $250 unless I have some assurance that her fat little manager would pay me back immediately after returning their car. No promises. Interesting that they have no "policy" to actually return my money. Bottom line: I took a cab to get here and they knew it. This was nothing more than extortion. These people are dishonest. I was very angry that they wasted my time, and frankly my money. There is nothing "thrifty" about them - nor are their prices, for that matter, any less than the local rates from Enterprise, Hertz, or the others. I opted to take a 45 minute cab ride with the certainty that my costs were contained rather than waste $295 on the hope that they would refund a substantial amount of that quickly. Just for the fun of it I called several local rentals to get price quotes. Their prices were all the same, those that had security deposit policies said so over the phone (many were far less than Thefty), and they all had reciprocal policies promising to return money within a stated number of days. Do not go to Dollar/Thefty Car Rentals in Cranberry.

Not the best car rental experience. Reserved in advance under one name and it was such a hassle to…read morechange the name. Finally finished checking in and the garage pickup was a disorganized mess, too. A younger employee brought the car around for us and pulled it all the way into a dead end lane, which was tricky to get out of in a new car that was completely unfamiliar to us. It's also a little suspicious that the cars get picked up in a poorly lit garage, where it's harder to assess damage before you leave and can be liable for missed dents, etc. later. In any case, we were finally on our way. On our fourth day of a five day reservation, we got a flat. My husband was able to change to the spare but when calling the Avis hotline for info, they were next to useless at what should be a fairly routine situation to resolve. We got passed around to like five different people and had to start all the way over with our contact info and explanation each time, only to eventually be told to drive an hour back to the shop to switch out for a new vehicle. Not sure if options were limited because this happened on a Sunday or what but two hours later, our day was back on track. The second vehicle smelled like weed and there wasn't really a way to document that so we'll just have to see if anything happens with that.

The worst rental car experience I have ever had I chose Avis…read morebecause they advertised a 30% discount on a Ford Explorer for about $570. I specifically needed a larger vehicle because I was traveling with my elderly mother and had friends flying into Pittsburgh for the game. When I arrived, I was told the Explorer wasn't available, even though another employee told the agent there actually was one. Then my agreement initially came up at nearly$1,500. After I questioned it, the employee said he would adjust it after I signed, eventually bringing it down to about$870. I also specifically declined the additional insurance and was told it was noted. Then I got into the vehicle. The Explorersmelled strongly of smoke and had an obvious spill/sickness smell in the back seat.I immediately called Avis and was assured it was documented and would be taken care of after I returned the vehicle. That night, we drove through a severe storm to pick up my mother. Thewindshield wipers barely worked. The next day, I discovered something far more serious:the tires were visibly bubbled and the inside tread was coming apart/exposed around the tires.I have pictures. I immediately called Avis again and was assured they would exchange the vehicle. I drove extremely carefully back to the airport. After spending hours dealing with this instead of enjoying my vacation, I was told the only vehicle available that would accommodate us was afilthy minivan. I called customer service again and was once again assured that everything would be taken care of. It wasn't. After returning to California, the original $1,500 charge disappeared from my credit card, so I assumed the situation was finally being corrected. Instead, Avis told me they were charging me$870 with no discount. After explaining the entire situation yet again, a supervisor told me the "best" she could do was remove two days and still charge $870. When I objected, she became short with me and told me it was final because I had signed a contract. I asked for escalation and was told someone would contact me in 2-3 days.Which still hasn't happened. Meanwhile, the $870 charge appeared on my card on the 17th. Between the airport delays, returning the unsafe vehicle, waiting for a replacement, and multiple customer-service calls, I estimate I lostroughly half a day of my vacationdealing with Avis. The billing issue is frustrating, but thesafety issue is what really bothers me.I had my elderly mother and child in that vehicle. We were driving through severe weather with barely functioning wipers, and then discovered visibly damaged/bubbled tires. What if one of those tires had failed? What if someone had been hurt? One employee who inspected the vehicle when I returned it actually looked horrified when he saw the tires and appeared genuinely concerned. He was the only person who seemed to understand the seriousness of what had happened. I hope Avis recognizes employees like that. Cars can have problems. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a company responds. In this case, I was repeatedly told that everything was documented and would be taken care of, only to ultimately be told that I signed a contract and would be charged anyway. Unsafe vehicle. Poor vehicle condition. Hours of wasted vacation time. Repeated assurances that weren't followed through. And ultimately, no meaningful resolution. Avis management should review the vehicle inspection records, the condition of those tires, the customer-service call history, and the billing history for this rental. This wasn't just a bad rental experience. It was a situation where I genuinely worry about what could have happened if those tires had failed while my family was in the vehicle.
