Not a paid review, I swear! Nina, Nate, and Justin all fielded my relentless questions in the weeks prior to my planned "Thelma & Louise" road trip with my high school bestie, and they helped get me into the car of my dreams--a BMW convertible. On the way home after picking up the car the night before the trip, I noticed an alert indicating a problem with the windscreen. Super annoying alert that couldn't be ignored, so I brought it back before they closed for the day. They promptly located and resolved the issue (related to a piece of the windscreen for the convertible that had broken off--once removed, alerts stopped). For this trouble, they extended a discount on the agreed rental price. Sweet! Also, my friend and I were so excited for our trip -- they seemed to be excited for us and happy to help get us into the "experience," which just made the start to our trip that much nicer. My experience at Petaluma Enterprise was wonderful, so it's a bummer to see others who had a different experience. It might've been because I knew what I wanted and made a point to get it, which meant I needed to call around to make it happen (this branch doesn't carry the "exotics" so one had to be delivered here for pick up). But again, they were happy to help where they could and the car was delivered to the branch the day before I needed it. I would absolutely recommend this Enterprise branch to rent a car from. My car was being repaired nearby so I chose to rent here for the convenient location. But it took nearly an hour before my car was ready and I drove it off the premises -- Staff apologized repeatedly for the delay, saying they were picking it up from an oil change place, but the car had been reserved for weeks in advance and should have been ready within a more reasonable timeframe. The delay caused me to be late for an appointment. The Staffer checking me in said "...the last driver left it between a 1/4 tank & empty, so I'll just write down it's empty and you can bring it back empty, too." That put me in two bad positions: needing to get gas immediately, causing me to be even more delayed, and trying to gauge how much gas to buy to insure I wouldn't run out, but also to not leave TOO much unused gas. It seems like a risky tactic Enterprise uses to save money on fueling, (if they fuel at all,) because most drivers will buy more than needed to prevent the car conking out in traffic or getting stranded somewhere, leaving free fuel for the next customer. The Staff should have made sure the car had at least a 1/2 tank so I could go about my day without rushing to a gas station or worrying about being put in an unsafe situation. The best scenario would be for Staff to fill-er-up! Then customers can just top it off -- no guesswork on how much to buy with little risk of running out. Besides, what good is a car without fuel? Isn't that "Rental Cars 101?" Once the car was ready, the Staffer rushed to do the walk-around inspection, missing a 2" ding on the passenger door, so I pointed it out. He rushed while telling how the gas tank door worked, and when I didn't understand what he meant, he repeated himself rather than SHOW me how it worked, so I had to ask him to show me. He then gave me the key and took off, (at that time there were 4-5 other Staffers and only 1 waiting customer, so I don't know what his big hurry was. I was being patient and friendly, in spite of the long delay, so I know it wasn't me!) When I got in the car, I saw the windshield had a white film on the interior, causing a hazy view, even though the car had just been washed. (I bought Windex Wipes at the gas station and cleaned it.) I sat there trying to learn the car's unique gear shift, and other basic features like adjusting the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirrors, headlights, AC, radio, etc., but no Staff seemed to notice that I'd been there for several minutes -- no one asked if I needed any help. Yes, I could have gone back into the office to ask for help, but the Staff's rushed behavior wasn't welcoming and I was already made late, so I fumbled my way through... I finally realized a tiny pull on the gear handle changed it to "D" (the gearshift itself didn't move to a different position, it electronically shifted, which is hard to detect if you're not used to that.) Also, a faint light illuminated the "D" when it was in gear, which was impossible to see in the sun's glare. I had to cup my hand over the gear panel to be sure I was in the right gear. To go in reverse, I had to stop while blocking traffic and figure out that I had to pull the gear while pressing a side button. That put me in an unsafe situation! Another learning curve was parking -- it required me to push the gear up and push the "P" button, when the "P" was flat and didn't look like a button that'd push in! Setting and releasing the parking break was also odd -- an unlabeled button near the gearshift needed to be pushed and although it lit up to indicate it was on, the light had a 2-3 second delay, so I was pressing it repeatedly before realizing it was on when pushed in and off when pulled up. Geez! Staff should've taken 5 minutes to show me these quirky features to ensure I could operate the car safely before they gave me the key and split. Or at least give me a written "How-to start, stop and park the car" flyer! To be honest, the only reason I'd probably use Enterprise again is because it's near my home, and because the only other rental car co. in town is Hertz, which is further away and they've earned the same low Yelp rating as Enterprise: 3 of 5 stars. I hope Enterprise will read this review and give their Staff a refresher course in customer service and "Fill-er-up!" read more

Honestly the reason I keep coming back to this Enterprise is because of Justin. He is beyond helpful and just makes the process so easy. He provides that old school customer service - remember those days when customer service mattered - Justin has not forgotten and goes above and beyond to make it easy and make sure his customers are happy. I have rented here a few times for some corporate tours where I needed a large vehicle and he made sure I had just the right one to impress the executives!!! I can't thank Enterprise enough. What could have been an extremely stressful situation ended up being super easy and pleasant. The car I had rented hit a nail and got a slow leak. I was supposed to drop off at a location in Santa Rosa but they told me to head to Petaluma since I was already close. The guys working were so nice and helpful and didn't even mention any additional costs. They even waived the gas fee since I wasn't able to fill up on the way. Can't recommend enough read more

I just read multiple negative reviews about Enterprise in Petaluma CA. I am writing to state that I too had multiple negative encounters w/rud employees & charges incurred for not reason. I just rented a car for ten days through CostcoTravel.com this is how you get the absolute best rate. Nate and Justin are FANTASTIC. Very helpful, kind and professional. They are really making up for all the negative reviews in the past. I can't tell you what a difference it makes to have polite, courteous professional and positively helpful employees in a business especially in customer service. It is a shame that customer service is no longer a priority with many corporations. Enterprise in Petaluma probably isn't perfect, but at least right now you have Nate and Justin working hard to give you the very best experience you can possibly hope for. The replacement had some other issues that made for a stressful drive, but every interaction was good, and the follow up from the local manager was a step above and beyond. I was in an accident and needed a rental. Insurance covers a full size car and uses Enterprise for their rentals. I was initially routed to the Napa office. After a few calls to them, I will never, ever do business with them. I was told they didn't know when/if they would have a full size car in but I was welcome to get into a small SUV for an out of pocket fee. I was also told that I could call other locations to check on availability. The Napa office will not do that for you. So I then called the Petaluma office. Annie answered the phone and was so amazingly nice and incredibly helpful. It took 2 days (total and not her fault) but I was in a car and on my way very quickly once a car was available. She even checked in the next day to be sure everything was alright. I absolutely recommend using the Petaluma location if you need a rental. read more

I was in an accident and needed a rental. My insurance covers a luxury car rental and uses Enterprise for their rentals. I have always used the Enterprise, Petaluma branch, even when I needed to rent for leisure purposes, but yesterday, experience was so horrible! When I got to the Petaluma branch I chose a Mercedes that was parked on their lot, but when I provided my credit card it did not have sufficient credit to for the amount due. I then pulled out my debit card and asked them to put the charge on it, they said "No, it has to be a credit card for this type of vehicles, but you can take a truck or a smaller car". Ok, I then deposited enough money on my credit card and went back and I said "OK, now yo can use my credit card, as it has sufficient funds to be charged", they refused to take it and said I have to wait for 24 hours before they run it again! Meanwhile, they had already started showing and offering the Mercedes to this lady who was there for a car. I was not happy with this whole business and I expressed my frustration with their process to Annie, the branch manager, then she replied "you're upset because your card declined?" which I thought was very offensive! I then asked her "did your card ever decline?, it is normal, but what's not normal is you refuse to run it again when i deposited funds in it" They offered me a shiny-blue Nissan, I signed off on it and drove home (a couple of miles way), but the car started to shake when I pass the 50 mile speed. I got home got another credit card, drove back to Enterprise, I told them the vehicle they rented me is unsafe to drive and should not offer it, they admit that the previous customer reported the issue already! By the time I got there with my other credit card, the Mercedes I wanted was already gone! Instead, they gave me a truck that does not fit in my driveway and drove off with it unhappy, feeling mislabel and extremely frustrated. I would caution you to be ready and prepared to deal with inconveniences and high-levels of frustration when dealing with this branch, with their current management who was inconsiderate and moved on to the next customer, offered her he car I am interested in, while I was in the middle of negotiating it's rental, totally unprofessional! To be honest and fair to Enterprise, I called the Santa Rosa Airport branch to inquire if they have a luxury car they can offer me, I spoke to Adam who was very courteous and helpful. He prepared the a Mercedes for me which I exchanged with the truck I had. I am very grateful and thankful to Adam! read more

Unbelievable. There is no one available at any level anymore who can correct an error. Two weeks after my credit card challenge for the erroneous $72.24 charge from Enterprise was closed in my favor, Enterprise sent an 'overdue payment' by me to a collection agency!! Now, Four months on I'm dealing with a collection agency over Enterprise's error. It's a long story, the summary is they added a $72.24 charge in error to my invoice in June, but the guy in the Petaluma office told me to sign it and he would correct it before I returned the car. I returned the car to the body shop and got my invoice by email. $72.24 still there. Three calls to the Petaluma office and two to Enterprise Corp - every time they agree it's an error but they have to send it to someone else to fix it. They'll call me back within a week - which never happened. I finally challenged the charge at my credit card company; obviously Enterprise did not protest effectively as it was closed in my favor. I now have the $72.24 refund - and a collection agency bothering me. I emailed a screen print of the closed credit card challenge to the collection agency, naively thinking that would show that this is a settled question. Nope, they asked for the 'details of the dispute' which they have forwarded to the appropriate department. This is an unending nightmare. They have over automated and no one is home. If I ever rent from them again (unlikely) I will insist that any assurances from them are written. That probably won't help though since everything is going around a system with no brakes or oversight. read more

Everything was great until Enterprise claimed I damaged the rental car and invoiced me $1,000 and automatically took it out of my account. I did not damage the car! At any rate, for a company that works closely with my insurance company, you'd think they'd talk to them first to see what the process is because when I talked to my insurance company they told me Enterprise shouldn't be charging me anything. My insurance company is going to fix this for me, but I'm very disappointed in Enterprise. They didn't even send me a photo when I asked them for it. Absolutely the worst in Sonoma County. Save yourself the grief and go to Rohnert Park or Santa Rosa airport. On three different occasions they have failed to have the specific vehicle I reserved months ahead of time and all three times offered no resolution other than to send me on my way. They have sent me off in a 15 person van full of open beer containers. They have sent me off with a tail light out causing me to be pulled over. They have sent me off in the dead of winter knowing I was traveling through snow and gave me a car with no windshield wiper fluid. So ridiculous this place can even still maintain business. Almost everything about my experience with Enterprise Rent-A-Car was positive except for one glaring incident that ruined Enterprise for me. I had to get a rental car because Ford was doing some work on my car and they called Enterprise. No problem there, the nice man who came to pick me up was cheery, super friendly and was extremely accommodating. The customer representative who helped me get my car was great too. Ok, now for the bad. When the driver and I walked into Enterprise the customer representative who was sitting in the back desk on the left immediately starting yelling at the poor driver and berating him. She got up out of her desk and got in the face of the poor man yelling at him that he should always turn his phone on and now he has to go back to Ford since he couldn't seem to turn on his phone. The Ford dealership from Enterprise is probably no more than two miles but she kept yelling at him and putting him down. It was extremely unprofessional on her part and very rude. I was horribly embarrassed for the man that was getting chewed out by this woman in front of his co-workers and other customers. The driver kept a smile on his face and left to go pick up the customer at Ford. It took everything in me to not chew her out. When she got back on the phone she acted annoyed and wasn't any friendlier to the customer on the phone that had the bad luck of calling Enterprise and reaching this customer representative. read more

One word: Fail. Okay, so i was going to drive from Petaluma to South Lake Tahoe, and i was gonna buy a rental car for the road because i was worried about my own car not making it up Echo Summit. The service was nice, and i was promised a 2011 Hyundai model. Everything seemed A-OK from there. But when i got there, you know what i got? A Jeep. Uh, i wanted the Hyundai, not a Jeep... Well, the guy at the desk said that those kind of cars work better in the snow. And guess what? Inside the car, it had a warning about driving it in bad weather. That immediately made me nervous to drive up there. When i got home, i called them up and asked for a different model. Yeah, you guessed it, they were all out of cars. What. The. Hell. Well, i drove up there anyway, and almost everything went fine, except when i got to the town i slipped on some ice and almost crashed into the divider. Just fair warning, Enterprise WILL NOT pick you up, despite what their corporate headquarters says. I specifically called ahead, before making my reservation, and was told I could get a pick up. The lazy people at this store said they don't do that. Update to add that after all this and arranging a ride for myself, they would not rent me the car because I live outside city limits and they require a major credit card for anyone they don't consider "local". I live 8 miles from their office. I rent cars frequently from other dealers with my debit card and have never been treated like this. It amazes me to read bad reviews of this place as the people and service the provided were friendly and efficient. My car was in the shop due to an accident and I had to rent twice from them as it wasn't ready at the promised time. They remembered me on the second rental, both cars were great and exactly what I needed. Dealing with customers is difficult and I'm sure they run into every possible scenario but they handled all the people waiting with charm and ease. I would gladly use them again! read more

We found that this is a very busy location during the summer. The staff here is managed well by Matt, who provided excellent customer service. Very friendly and professional. The way car rental places squirrel around with their pricing when they are all booked was a little disappointing. Matt went out if his way to provide discounts to at least get us close to the rate quoted in Feb. Also took care of us with a nice upgrade when we found the reg was expired. Like the pickup feature which was very useful for us. All in all a positive experience, would recommend. read more
