This has been the worst rental experience ever. Called road side assistance and was told no replacement would be given. So hung up and called the counter at Hertz, Billy Bishop airport. The person who answered, seemed adversarial towards me, did not seem knowledgable and kept calling her manager. I asked to speak to the manager and I was told the manager does not work on weekends and I'll get him to call you on Monday, I have yet to receive a call from the manager or anyone else and I am writing this review on Wednesday. After talking to her, I called road side assistance again and they set up a claim and got someone to pick the car up. They made me feel as though this was my fault and my problem, and no one has ever called to apologize. My husband and I rented a car at National recently. The journey that lead us there was not a…read morepleasant one, but we were happy with the service we received and would recommend National for car rentals. We were in Toronto during the time when there were protesters (opposing the Coastal GasLink pipeline in British Columbia) blocking the rail lines near Belleville, ON. We were supposed to go back to Ottawa by train, but all trains between Toronto and Ottawa were cancelled because of the protests (it was early on in the protests, so cancellations were made day by day, later on, cancellations were made farther in advance). We had to get back to Ottawa that day. Same day airfare was exorbitant. We learned of our cancellation at 8am, by that time all Greyhound buses departing Toronto for Ottawa that day were sold out. Our only choice was to rent a car and drive back ourselves. Fortunately, the weather was clear. We initially went to the National Car Rental location on Wellington St, since it was the closest to our hotel. When we arrived, the lady there told us that they had no cars! Their entire fleet was rented and out. We asked her if she could check the Billy Bishop Airport location, which she did and told us they had cars. We then asked her to reserve a car for us, which she did and wrote down the reservation number for us. Then we hightailed it to Billy Bishop. When we arrived, the place was packed with customers. It's a small kiosk in the middle of a parking lot. The man serving us was friendly and efficient. We explained to him what had happened at the Wellington St location and he found our reservation and processed the rental. It was a Sunday and most of their locations in Ottawa closed early. We had to work on Monday and didn't want to worry about having to return the rental in the morning, so we opted to return the car the same day to the only location in Ottawa opened late on Sunday: the Ottawa Airport location. I'm pretty sure you pay a premium to pick up and drop off at airports, and to drop off in a different city because it cost us around $265 for the same day rental (I think it's only like $50 for same day car rentals at other locations as long as you bring it back to the same place). Oh well, we were just happy to find a way home that wasn't going to cost us close to $1000 (the going rate for airfare that day). The process was quick and easy. Although we did not receive the rental agreement by email like they said we would. We only received something from National after we had returned the car to the drop off location. The Billy Bishop Airport location is completely paperless, so everything is digital there. Anyway, the car was in good condition. Although this location at Billy Bishop Airport does not have any water, so they cannot clean the outside of the car. Winters in Canada means dirty cars covered in salt, so the outside of the car was kind of dirty. Something to keep in mind if you are picking up a car here in the winter. Also since it's a small kiosk, if there are a lot of customers, you will be standing outside while waiting in line, also something to think about in the winters, lol. We received a courtesy voicemail and email from the Assistant Branch Manager the day after to follow up on our experience, which I thought was nice. Overall, we had a very good experience with National. We would rent from them again.

Literally the day before I was meant to pick up my reservation, the agent called me to tell me that my reservation will be cancelled because they have no cars and can't find any other cars at other locations. When asked about my options and how they will remedy this problem, they said that they have no information and I'll have to call customer service. Apparently I'm just expected to find a different solution (the only other cars available in Toronto were twice the price of my original reservation) or cancel my travel plans. I called customer service and after getting the run around, finally spoke to a customer service rep who informed me that this is "standard business process" and that this is much better than showing up to the location only to find out there is no car available (while factually true, that is neither helpful nor does it justify your shady business practices). They said that since the reservation never happened (because Thrifty cancelled on me) there was nothing they could do about compensation or reimbursement for my inconvenience. Obviously dissatisfied, I asked to escalate this to their manager as this is unacceptable and I refuse to accept that this is how they treat their customers (spoiler alert: I was wrong). The manager repeated the same BS story that this is their process and there was nothing they could do about it other that offer their apologies. I couldn't accept this solution and told him the industry best practice would be to either A) provide me an upgraded reservation for a different car, B) find a car at a different location or affiliated rental company, C) reserve a car at a different competitor company, or D) provide compensation by way of a future discount or voucher. The manager eventually caved and said that the best he could do was provide a $30 voucher but I would need a US address to mail the voucher to... Again not the least bit helpful as I live in Toronto in CANADA. Also $30 off is of zero value to me when the next cheapest rental available would cost me $200+ more than my original reservation. I told the manager that this is unacceptable and provides me zero confidence to ever book through Thrifty again and I have the right mind to dissuade my family, friends and any other prospective renters out there to avoid Thrifty at all costs. I asked to escalate this to their manager and they said that they were the highest person of authority so I would have to write to head office (which I will be doing shortly). All that to say, avoid avoid avoid Thrifty if you want your reservation to be fulfilled. If you like being disappointed and having to cancel your travel plans at the last minute, then by all means, this is the place for you. Enjoy your cancellation! After reading all of the reviews, it appears that this is a common theme (or "standard business process") for Thrifty. I was a fool for not heeding these warnings but let my/our mistakes be your lesson learnt. AVOID THRIFTY CAR RENTAL AT ALL COST!

Don't use them they have nice pictures on the Internet and a tempting description, but you come in a dump. It is highway robbery. They ask the highest price and give the lowest quality. It is to cry when you think that you would not give 10 dollars a night and paid 20 times more for this awful place.
