Negative work culture, unorganized management, lack of effective training and standardization for…read moreseveral employees with various work experiences and backgrounds. Poor HR presence and accountability when confronted about these issues even early on in the "training process". Extremely Low levels of advancement and upward mobility. Management has even pulled employees out of mandatory training necessary for later promotion due to management's lack of proper shift planning making the possibility for promotion feel unattainable during the manager trainee process. Managers and higher ups have very poor leadership skills but will take credit for "building" an employee's skills despite the figure it out on your own or what they characterize as "on the job training" nature of the MT position. Vulgar language and locker room talk amongst multiple employees in different departments can be extremely distasteful. Management will also make you work through your lunch break despite State Law to take a lunch break after a certain number of hours are worked. Management will even change time cards electronically to cut overtime even if you have worked 40+ hours in a week, which you will 100% work due to the nature of the position which is extremely unethical as well. In addition, They habitually put employees on performance improvement plans in their early tenure instead of developing a cohesive team. This results in termination more times then not despite lack of staffing and resources for employees to effectively and consistently complete their duties. HR, Management and higher ups also collude to reduce staffing at their own leisure with PIPs and will take months to higher new prospects while current employees struggle with extremely low staffing and support. Most of the employees working at Penske articulate not liking their job or role quite often but also mention needing the money to support themselves and family. In addition, coworkers articulated the lack of support from leadership on a weekly basis. Outside of the weekly pay and occasional free meals Penske is not a company I would recommend. Anyone looking for a long lasting career with a company that will support them and develop their skills with positive reinforcement Penske is not for you. This is my very impartial opinion as former and employee and former customer

(Lol, bitch please.) First off, sounds like you're trying to scam. Since when is it policy to rent out a truck that's not even physically at the lot? Don't recommend this place -- rude asf. Some employee smells musty asf, smoking weed in the alley. This place needs to be shut down, or the staff needs retraining or replacement. Something isn't working. I would be contacting corporate about this

No one gave us any advice or told us to bring de-icer for the straps which were too frozen to get in the slots. it was a NIGHTMARE. We ended up buying some vinegar and sticking the straps in the car door and putting on the air while the car was up on the dolly to thaw the straps. The BP doesn't even carry de-icer in Chicago. So bad when you run a Uhaul business. it's obvious this happends to all the straps in the winter. But they dont care. It was our problem. We also had to go to a different place to get the truck from where we reserved it. That apparently is often the case. And then the dolly was at a different location. So we had to go to one to pick up the truck. Then take the truck to another location to get the dolly. Then we had to go back to get our car from the first location. So it took us HOURS to get out of town just because of all of this. And if you return the truck early, you get nothing. There aren't really many places to rent trucks from so that is probably why they are not caring a whole lot about the customer. Kind of like when you get to the airport, you are stuck with the junky food and you pay too much for it. But it is cheaper than full movers, so that's the only reason why I would suggest someone use it. But adding up the gas and the rental, hotels, time lost at work and such you sure dont save much. And the 26' truck got 7!!! miles to the gallon. It was crazy how much we spent on gas. Just nuts. So overall was it cheaper than movers? not much. I wouldn't say the employees are not nice. They are. But they are "not trained" to help out getting a car ON the dolly at least at the Cicero location where i had to go to get the truck and then come back for my car later. The dolly was attached by the uhaul at the Midway location. We were so nervous about the car we had to do ourselves. We watched youtube videos sitting in the truck over and over so we didn't make a mistake. Make sure you watch the FIRST two that come up. Not just the first one I think that one is by Uhaul and it's not great. It was so cold out and the straps were FROZEN. Bring de-icer and gloves no matter what if it's winter. And if you dont hook up that car properly, someone will get hurt if that car comes off the dolly and more likely someone will die. It's so dangerous to have the general public hook up a car to that thing. I can't believe Uhual is allowed to leave us on our own. We were stressed the whole way. But every time we got gas we tightened the straps. It was scary though. We were so amazing that Uhaul doesn't help more and do more. But they can get away with doing the bare minimum I guess.

Enter the $19.95 truck. We would end up going back and forth both homes for a total of 4 times. Now I know it's been almost 13 years since my last move, but I don't recall having to pay so much for the intricate "details." $1.49 per mile, service fees, and then the truck itself. Never mind the fact that online I was quoted $1.29 per mile until I checked out. Weird. I added in a dolly for an additional $7. A dolly which was not included when I picked the truck up so that really through a wrench into our day, hence two stars off. Not a great thing to encounter on moving day. The location pick up and drop off was very convenient, though. Based right off of 47th, it was a easy in and out via Android. Many pictures taken for confirmation, but a fairly fast process once pick up time was adjusted. Was it an easy transaction? Fairly so. Would I pay $50 again to utilize their services? (Although it will definitely be more based on mileage and how much further we move). Absolutely. But them omitting the dolly was key to ruining the start of our moving day. A d that was a very large factor in determining this review score.
