If I could give 0 I would. He is dishonest and not a good upright business man. My house got broken into when the tent was on, but it had to have been an inside job because it was all locked up except a window was left open exactly where they broke in. The neighbor who lives across from me is a Sheriff and has lived in the neighbor over 11+ years and said there has never been a break in our neighborhood. This termite company was recommended to us by our exterminator, Oceanfront Pest Control (Lucas). We discovered termite damage in our "new" 1964 home behind the fireplace drywall. Jim (the owner) returned my call in a timely manner and set up an appointment to see the damage on the same day! He was on time and thorough. I'm a little pressed for time as I go to write this review, so I'll try to make it as succinct yet informative as possible. I was referred to Environment 1st Exterminating by a close friend who had a very favorable engagement with them. My house showed signs of swarming drywood termites previously and I needed treatment to eradicate the menacing munchers. I contacted E 1st's owner, Jim S. and left a voicemail. He promptly returned my message within a few hours and set an appointment for a convenient time in the near future - 5 stars for follow-up and promptness. On the agreed-upon day, Jim arrived on time and was affable and efficient with his introductions and overview of services. Jim did a walk around to where the infestation sites were located and made an assessment that there was indeed, a drywood termite issue and, based upon the my description of the locations and symptoms, he confirmed that tenting would be the most effective course of treatment. With that, Jim proceeded to describe next steps and had a solid, easy-to-follow process to cover what would be done, the timing of those steps and the team that would perform the work. Specifically, Jim sub-contracts the tenting and exterminating work to a licensed/bonded 3rd party. Jim explained why he does not do tenting work himself, which made perfect sense - the state only licenses so many service providers to ensure there is proper control of the process and the chemicals. E 1st does provide homeowners with recurring spot treatment and remediation services for very competitive prices, but that's not what I needed in this go-round. What was nice about this, was he didn't pitch me on additional services, but rather just stayed focused on what needed to be done to treat this situation. 5 Stars for attacking the task at hand and helping me understand how it would work. He walked through pricing and, because I had a specific referral from another customer, he offered a discount (I cannot recall the percentage or $ amount). We wrapped up the initial appointment in under 20 minutes. Jim informed that he would come back to collect a deposit and to walk through the specifics of the prep we would have to do as the homeowners. 5 Stars for keeping it short, easy to understand and within my budget. When it came to the prep visit, Jim arrived on time and walked me through the prep their team performs to ensure our house was secure and safe during the process. He gave an overview of the timing (~2 days), the bagging process for open items such as food and cosmetics, and provided some tips and printed documents regarding the chemicals used, the way they work (oxygen evacuation), and a few other things that I will exclude for brevity's sake (he'll be thorough). On the scheduled day, there were some unforeseen circumstances with the 3rd party that caused them to be running late, but Jim was all over the communications and was thorough in follow-up and providing status. The tenting process was completed same-day as promised and we went to a hotel for a couple nights of local stay-cation. On ventilation day (they don't remove the tent, but rather use a chemical retrieval process to evacuate the chemicals and ventilate the house). This went exactly as described by Jim during the orientation. The following day, the tent was removed and Jim keep me posted on status and when we would be able to return to the house. Again, everything proceeded as briefed and there were no surprises. Following the procedure, Jim came by for the final review of their warranty, gather feedback, and close out final payment. This was quick, easy and exceeded my expectations for great customer service. I've run out of time (went longer than anticipated on this review), but suffice it to say that I am very satisfied with the experience of working with E 1st and will consider them as my first choice for future remediation or spot treatments, should that become necessary. You responded that you had a bunch of big projects but you would let me know. I responded asking when I should check back with you. You responded you would let me know by tomorrow morning. You did not get back to me. On May 2 I texted you, asking for an update to schedule service. You did not respond. On May 8 I texted you, asking for an update to schedule service. You did not respond. On May 10 I texted you, asking for an update to schedule service. You did not respond. On May 12 I called you from my cell phone to your cell phone. You did not answer. I then called from a number I knew you would not recognize and you answered. You apologized, said you were in Mexico and assured me you were going to get out to the property quickly. You mentioned to me that I have been "very patient". On May 24, a full 12 days later, I texted you for another update. You responded "maybe this time next week". That would have been around May 31. I never heard back from you. On May 30 I texted you for an update. You did not respond. On June 2 I called you from my cell phone to your cell phone and business line. You did not answer. I then called from a number I knew you would not recognize (again). You answered. You assured me you would be at the property on Wednesday, June 7 @ 8:00am. After our conversation I texted you a confirmation of the same, and wished you a great weekend. * Jim never showed up. read more

As was true for others reviews, Jim and Environment 1st were recommended to me by my contractor. That alone is a positive. Contractors don't recommend people they themselves don't trust. Our job was complicated by the fact that our homes are so close to each other, the only way to get a seal to the ground for the gas was to tent my house and my neighbor's together. Jim oversaw all the arrangements to make this happen. The price was right the work excellent. You probably know, along with used car dealers, pest control has a lot of bad actors. Jim from Environment One was recommend by a neighbor, and when he stopped by he impressed me to the extent that I wrote him a check for one half of the cost of the job because he couldn't afford to buy the materials. (This worried me.) He said he would send me the contract that I could sign and send back to him. To make a long story short, I never signed the contract, and have had his promise on five different occasions to get the money to me. This guy is a disaster! This company took a $9k deposit from our HOA (which is illegal; in CA $1000 is the greatest value legal to request for trades work). Then they rarely showed up, damaged an electrical box, damaged our new landscaping, and left several of the buildings without finished wood or weather protection. We became concerned and started calling and emailing asking for completion dates and proof of Workers Comp since they were doing things that were extremely unsafe on our property. We then received a letter saying they were terminating the contract and would reimburse us $1000.00 of the $9k we paid. We found this ridicules since two guys showed up a few days and caused more damage then repair. Barely a 1/4 of wood repairs were preformed, only one chimney was painted and they lied and said they sprayed for termites when they clearly had yet sprayed. We requested more of a refund, contacted a lawyer and months later have yet to receive a refund. We will be filing complaints with Contractors State Lic Board for illegally operations, and the Structural Pest Control Board. read more

Don't even think of using these people. I was a regular client for years and now they never, ever even answer their phone. No one is ever in the office. When I finally reached the owner, Jim, he said he was away on vacation for a week. Then we talked and I sent him to the property. He went and never got back in touch with a report. It took another 2 weeks to reach him--he never returned my calls. He said he was on vacation again for a week. I asked for the report and he never sent it. I continued calling all this week and never reached anyone until today. I even have his cell phone, which he NEVER answers. Today I told him I was unhappy with his lack of customer service and he hung up on me. All I can say is GO ELSEWHERE. read more

We did not have a good experience with this company. We planned the tenting 6 months in advance so it would coincide with a trip we were taking. My husband called Jim while we were out of town to confirm things were moving forward as planned. He was told that due to high winds the job would be delayed one day. He did not initiate this communication, we had to call to find this out. We kept calling on a daily basis from our vacation, often without response, finally to discover that the tenting was going to be so delayed that we were not going to have a place to stay when we returned from our trip. Jim assured us that due to the inconvenience, he would pay for a hotel room in Huntington Beach. When we arrived at the hotel after a long flight, we were told that the credit card used to reserve the room was now being declined, so we had to pay for it. We called Jim several times without response. Because we could not get into our house, I had to go to work from the hotel in vacation clothing that was not clean. We eventually were able to get back into our house and we have not seen a termite since. However, my husband discovered that he left our house key under the door mat for weeks without notifying us. My husband also had to harass him on 4-5 occasions to obtain the refund for our hotel room. Although the ultimate outcome is acceptable, our experience was stressful. read more
