Very friendly and very informative staff! From the front desk to Dr. Lin herself. I came in for an exam and contacts, and they offered to clean my current glasses for me during my exam, and they even repaired the little nose pad that had gone missing! The owner Kurt was pretty hostile, combative, and disrespectful. I've never been treated so poorly by an owner of an establishment. He tried to degrade me for my profession, and when asked told multiple lies. A bit over priced and a bit overboard with COVID. I was having a bit of sleepy eye bogeys so came in to see if anything was wrong. About 20 minutes of the doctors looking and nothing seemed wrong so she gave me some eye drops and sent me on my way They kept the door locked and if they actually let you in they will lock it behind you. They seem to go a bit overboard with staying 6ft away from people but not each other. If you choose this place prepare to be treated as if you have the Black Plague and deep pockets. I will not be back. Hospitality can go a long way. read more

I've seen Dr. Brown for a while (since 2014, I believe), and I appreciate the service that he offers. He's very professional and knowledgeable, and he takes enough time to examine you. I always feel that he is very thorough. I'm also very grateful that he found a lesion on my left eye a few years ago and referred me to an ophthalmologist to get it removed. Everything was OK with the front desk staff, too, except this time in 2021. I left a pair of glasses frame to get prescribed lenses, and when I went to pick them up, the case I left with the glasses was not there. I asked the staff for the missing glasses frame case, and she said that she didn't know if there was a case. Eventually, she gave me a random soft case from a different brand, but it is not the same. I couldn't understand why they didn't even try to look for the glasses frame case I left with them. Did they mix it up with someone else's? What happened? The eyeglasses frame was pretty pricey, so I wanted to have everything back as I gave it to them. It must mean nothing to them, but the whole experience was quite disappointing and unpleasant to me. It's a shame that I decided not to go back there because of the front desk staff, but the experience was so awful. I don't think I will go back to see Dr. Brown again to get my eye exam. read more

Edit: I visited Dr. Lin for the first time today and she's amazing! I've been experiencing terrible dry eyes and she gave me really helpful recommendations. She also scheduled me for a follow up dry eye assessment. I've been going to Dr. Brown for about 2 years and he's the best. His staff is always kind, courteous, and helpful. WARNING - As of 9/2022, this business went under new management and has a new Dr., so old reviews are not relevant. Dr. Brown is gone and Dr. Lin is on-site. My past 10+ years of positive experience with this business recently went down the toilet prompting this review. Envision has had 2 RX glasses orders of mine for over 1 mo and still hasn't delivered results. They communicated that both orders were initially supplied back to Envision incorrectly (not to script) blaming lab/order and fabrication technology errors. Most upsetting is that their manager guy was verbally mean; he has terrible customer service. On two occassions (9/29 when he was on a call, and 11/3 w/ me) I directly witnessed him use competitive/bully tactics to conflict resolution - he interrupts, obfuscates, attempts to emotionally manipulate, rants about unrelated matters to try and confuse, etc. He even made up a new "waiver" that he wanted me to sign in order for Envision to take action to correct one of their lab error issues. Manager's behavior only escalated my concerns about this business. Envision choses the lab and the lens fabrication technology, not the customer, so unclear why they don't stand behind their products and suppliers. No idea if/when I will ever receive either pair. I cannot speak to Dr. Lin's professionalism (she did not do my eye exam) but I think she needs to execute more over-sight to verify their orders are placed/executed correctly and generally "right the ship" by training or replacing the current store manager. read more

I've been a customer of Dr. Brown and Envision for over 3 years now, and I can't pay enough compliments to the skills & service of the entire staff. Dr. Brown is someone whose hands I'm happy to place the health of my eyes in. Coming from a great educational background in optometry from Cal Berkeley, Dr. Brown became a transplant of Washington after initially setting up shop in Southern California. He's got a great story to tell, and doesn't make you feel uncomfortable at all during your exam. He's thorough, meticulous, and you can be sure that he'll take a comprehensive look at your eyes to help diagnose and fix any problems that are present. The staff is the second component of the great experience at Envision. The opticians are friendly, [also] knowledgeable, and wear many hats during your visit. They can help you get fitted for glasses, order your contacts, inform you about your insurance coverage, and do it all with a good attitude. Lastly, the atmosphere at Envision combines classiness and mom-and-pop charm all into one. The inside is well lit, charming, and you know that this establishment has been part of the Downtown Bellevue landscape for quite some time right when you walk in. My family discovered Envision Optometry when my brother was visiting Bellevue and lost a nose piece to his glasses and stopped in. They replaced it for free, declining his offer of payment. Since then (2002) our entire family here have been to them. Dr. Brown and his office staff are knowledgeable, personable and professional. They might stock some pricy brands but will always help you find frames that are within your budget, checking their stock of clearance frames to find just the perfect pair to fit you. In between the yearly visit I've shown up to have nose pieces and screws replaced, they are happy to re-use your old frames and take you through however many fittings you need to have your glasses adjusted until you are pleased with them. I've gone from a simple eye-glass prescription and contact lenses to bi-focals and the complex progressive tri-focals. At my last eye exam, I had a long consultation with Dr. Brown about the possibilities of surgery for my eyes. Lasik/RK - and he provided me with two referrals cautioning me to take as much time and to always get a second opinion, or even a third for something as serious as surgery for my eyes. I may have wondered every now and again, in lean years, if I could do better at a different (read cheaper) place, but I realized I could never replace the care I get from Dr. Brown and his practice. Long time customer of Dr. Brown. Service has gotten really bad since I've gone back after Covid. Nobody answers the phone. Text message interactions kind of rude. Appt. needed for everything even to do a simple pickup, and because of no one answering the phone and the text messaging interactions, have been left hanging. When first moving to Bellevue from Texas in the 90ies, needed an optometrist "locally". A call into VSP (insurance) told there was a place in downtown Bellevue (walking distance in those days). So now 14 years later I am still a customer of Dr. Brown. He does take time and undertakes a very thorough eye exam (over an hour normally) every two year or so. That is all good - and expected. But what really triggered this review is the excellent care I've gotten from his "front" staff over they years. Just last week Donna called and told me my new glasses were ready. What she also told me was that she did not like the work the lab had done with them, and was going to send them back. I still decided to go in and look at them, and yes, the lab had scratched the frames a little bit (she had already ordered a new frame) and the way the glasses were mounted was "off". Would I have seen any of this myself? Likely not., so I was just very pleased an expert called it out and took needed action. So even though one normally do not go to an optometrist very often, it is always a pleasure to do so here! The little drawback; parking can be tight, but at the same time circulation is high due to Starbucks in the same building, so there's always a spot that opens up if you just can wait a few minutes. read more

This is such an amazing,caring and knowledgeable group of individuals. My mom recently experienced a scary case of double vision. The staff,doctors and owner immediately took care of my her. Dr. John C. Brown was trained at U.C. Berkeley, and he is an excellent optometrist. He's a good listener, and takes the time to get me the correct prescription for distance, computer, and reading. He explains options, and will gladly discuss the pros and cons of the different choices, such as progressive vs. lined lenses. He gets my prescription right, and gives me the best possible corrected vision. He's got a nice but expensive collection of frames. I've never bought them there, but then, I'm not a slave to fashion. So I get my prescription filled at Costco, which does an excellent job if you're not too picky about appearances. read more

I can't imagine why anyone would give these guys a bad review. It's not a big chain store; it's a real, personal, legitimate optometrist with an outstanding selection of frames, and some of the most patient and polite people I've seen in a doctor's office, ever. Dr. Brown is very thorough, and doesn't prescribe treatments which are unnecessary, which is rare these days.
