The only downside is that while shopping for mortgages, I had stated I wanted a mortgage with no escrow (I'd rather manage my money myself and keep the money from the interest myself). John said that was possible, but only for a fee (a percent of the loan). Unfortunately it seems that escrows are built into the underwriting itself, so not much we could really do to get around the fee. Just know that if you don't want to escrow. Our initial conversation I found odd as it lasted no more than 5mins while two other loan officers I reached out to were engaged, knowledgeable, responsive, and provided alternate financing options. As a potential client and a first time home buyer, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing him. Prior to ending the call, I was informed I would receive a follow-up email with two different options. Two days passed and I did not receive anything, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and sent an email requesting a status update--it is now 5 days after our initial conversation and I have not heard anything back. The 2 stars is due to the lack of communication by this loan officer and does not represent other First Home Mortgage loan officers as he was the only person I've had brief dealings with. Their intuitive system is the reason for the 2 stars instead of one, maybe if you get another loan officer, your experience will be better. Luckily, I was not in a time crunch- otherwise, working with him would have gave me anxiety and stress. I would suggest you work with someone else.
