I have been seeing Dr. Ovitsh for about 15 years an unfortunately I can no longer recommend him for many reasons. Firstly his tech went to take blood from my hand once she stuck my arms 4x, while this is normal it is not normal that she while doing it that she hadnt trained in doing this and when I left my hand blew up the size of a baseball and a month later still has some pain. Secondly, I had to get that blood work because of some elevated results. One of these Dr.O missed when he first sent my result and I found it. He said that I needed new blood work asap. Additionally because of another issue I needed rework asap. After emailing 6 times and calling at least a dozen over the past month I finally got ahold of him and there are still issues. If I hadnt kept emailing and calling I likely would never know... Sadly Dr.O was a favorite doctor who many of my friend and family have gone to but things just arent the same... read more

I'll say for sure, that Dr. Ovitsh is genuinely very kind. I think he / his office can be a bit disorganized and you have to follow up a bunch / demand your care. But for me, when sh** hit the fan, he saw me immediately and even when I wasn't very kind, he was, and that meant a lot to me. read more

My OB/GYN retired so I had to find a new one. I selected Dr. Ovitsh because he was affiliated with St. Vincents (which unfortunately closed) and that is where my other MD was and where I had my children. My experience was excellent. His staff was terrific and you could tell they all got along really well. Dr. Ovitsh's exam was thorough but gentle. He answered all the questions I had. I saw Dr. Ovitsh for the first three months of my pregnancy, four years ago. He was very nice and friendly and did full genetic testing and early ultrasound exams. But in hindsight, we were so lucky we switched to another provider when we did. He was completely negligent. It turns out I was Rh-Negative, and the midwives we used after Dr. Ovitsh caught it just in time so that my body wouldn't develop antibodies against the baby's Rh-Positive blood type. This is a common enough situation in pregnancy, and I could have had serious complications with my subsequent second child if this was missed. He's a nice doctor, but this was a basic screening that simply should not have been missed. I am grateful to know that the midwives I saw after Dr. Ovitsh caught this and now I am the parent of two healthy boys with no complications. read more

Dr. Ephraim Ovitsh seems nice but I never got my test results despite I have contact them multiple times for it. Moreover, my annual exam was included in my insurance and I have paid the copay in the office. The team billed me things I have never conducted. I've given this doctor's office a year to help resolve my issue, and unfortunately, it wasn't. In May last year, I went in for my annual exam and a pressing complaint. First, I never got any follow up on my lab results until about a week later when I called and requested. Even then, he didn't seem to care to go over results or give guidance without me chasing him to speak to me. Luckily, my condition (which is something that needed prompt attention) had been improving on its own, otherwise it could have been a very challenging outcome. Then, I get an exuberantly large bill from the lab. I spent months filing insurance appeals and calling all offices involved. I was able to bring down the fee on my own but still owed a balance that's almost worth my annual insurance premium. I asked the doctor to do something about it and while he would always say "I'm on your side" and email the lab on my behalf, there didn't seem to come anything out of it. It was either his way of shutting me out or he has an extremely poor connection with his lab. Thus, his lack of integrity (along with inconsistency in his actions) caused a lot of mistrust and frustration. The lab ended up sending one bill to collections, which infuriated me, causing me to pay it. I urged the doctor's office to at least adjust the remaining balance with the lab, and while the doctor said he would, that bill also went to collections about 2 months later and I had to pay it. No compensation back. Not only did I waste so much time with this, but it was a mentally challenging visit from the start. The doctor has a very nice demeanor and is friendly, however I'm just a number to him since he doesn't seem to have time to follow up over pressing results or give proper guidance. Then when his office screws up the billing, it's on me to figure it out and still pay in the end. As someone in the health care industry myself, that's not what I want for those in need of my services. For the record, I made sure at the start of this visit that none of this would happen and I was guaranteed it wouldn't. What should have been a simple gynecological exam turned out into a year long, stressful situation. Not acceptable. read more

"I just had the most enjoyable gynecologist visit. Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?" This is what I texted my friends after I left the doctor's office. I really can't believe that I stumbled onto such a sweet, easygoing, thorough, and gentle doctor. He made me feel at ease and answered all my questions, not to mention what great bedside manner he has. The front desk employee is super cool and the nurse was so personable. So he sees you first, then the nurse sees you, and then he sees you in his office to go over everything, answer any more questions, and give you the prescriptions you need. This really showed me his level of care. I waited about half an hour in the waiting room, so keep that in mind when you make your appointment. I spent a full hour there. I didn't mind the wait at all though, because of how great the examination was! The only negative is that he and his nurse are slow to follow up. They'll say they'll call but they either don't or they take a month to. He is also negligent with email, which can get annoying. read more

Came in for a refill of my prescriptions---truly we dont need anymore kids. Dr Ovitsh gave me a full workup and even showed me a pic of my uterus--I guess he offers that just for fun. I inquired about a IUD and the doctor said they would contact me after verification from all parties involved (insurance company etc). The staff member who called me back seemed to have a really bad attitude and I had to call back in order to speak to someone else who had a little more training in customer service. Her attitude was so unprofessional, that I felt the need to call back and complain which I did. Otherwise, the Doc seems to know his stuff but the staff needs to get it together. Overall the doctor is great, the staff needs to be put in their place which is why he gets 3 stars. read more

I have serious anxiety when it comes to anything medical, and Dr. Ovitsh's gentle approach and bedside manner were the perfect cure to calm my nerves. The wait time was a little long, but considering the level of care and thorough examination, I would have waited as long as necessary. I love Dr. Ovitsh. He is a fabulous doctor. Very caring and empathetic and knowledgeable. However, in my most recent visits, I've been slightly frustrated as the office hasn't been great about following up with me for results and billing related questions. The reason why I go for yearly checkups is so that I can have my results back in a timely manner... If I never receive my results (even if they look normal), it's completely pointless to me. It's now been over 2 months with multiple follow up calls and still no answers...for this reason alone, I'm at a point where finding another Dr may be the only other alternative, as wonderful as Dr. Ovitsh himself is. read more

I've been going to Dr. Ovitsch for the past 2-3 years and have always had a good experience. He is an incredibly caring person with the best bedside manners I've ever encountered. He listens to my concerns, is never judgmental, and takes the time to explain everything in detail. He always has same day or next day appointments and I never have to wait once I'm in the office (You need to arrive on time!). He calls me immediately with any urgent test results and he also emails results which is super convenient. If the tests show nothing then don't expect a call. That is my normal experience with almost all doctors. No news is good news. NYC doctors are busy and I am very grateful Dr. Ovitsch is always there for me. First off, I'd like to say Dr Ovitsh himself is very knowledgable and understanding. He takes his time to explain all possible treatment plans. However, this review is based on the number of bills I've been receiving, and how his office has been ignoring my calls for the past three months. I've been receiving bill after bill from labs, even though I've paid 2 types of copay already. It's been three months since I first contacted his office to ask about my third bill, and every time I call, the receptionist tells me the office manager isn't in but she will call me back. THEY HAVE NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Today, the receptionist tells me they actually don't even handle billing in the office, that I should call their billing department. So who has been telling me to wait for the office manager for the past three months? I know it's incredibly hard to find a good gynecologist, but if you decide to go to Dr Ovitsh, make sure you ask about how much it will cost before you agree to anything. read more

Dr. Ovitsch spoke with me, promised he would call in the RX, and now is skirting around my phone calls. Are you KIDDING ME? I've called the office every 30 minutes during business hours for the past 2 days to discuss where my RX is? I'm bipolar so it is so important for me to be on the right amount of hormones. Not that he cares. And yes, he likes to triple book, make you wait 1.5-2 hours before seeing him. If you want your pap spear bill to be over $3000 in total, please go ahead. Went to my first visit for pap spear. The doctor is attentive. However, wait till you see the total bill of $2,180!!! (not including the lab fee) I'm glad the insurance covers about 80%. Counselling fee was charged twice, ultrasound was charge twice, blood draw, urine analysis besides pap smear, regular wellness exam, all separate costs. I have no clue why urine analysis was charged, since all analysis is conducted by the lab. Plus, this particular lab that is being used by here charged 6 different claims from the lab with the total about $1000. When I called the lab, "oh, the doctor ordered A LOT of tests." .............speechless! Yes. My one doctor visit for pap spear came out to total over $3K. I spoke with the billing department, but she basically goes "there is nothing we can do". Please keep this after-fact of high cost in mind before your visit. read more

I recently went for a colposcopy with Ephraim Ovitsh after having a bad experience with previous OBGYN. His office was able to get me scheduled for appointment same day, the staff was great and the doctor had the best bedside manner. I did not feel rushed at all and the colposcopy experience was much less bad than I expected. The office took extra care to bill to in-network lab providers so I was not overcharged. Poor bedside manner and impossible to get a hold of the doctor if you have questions about your lab results. I kept following up with the office four days after lab results were released to me, and after chasing him (because he refused to answer email or calls), there was no apology from him nor his receptionists. Impossible to track down if you actually have questions about your wellbeing and upon having the conversation, he still seemed to lackadaisical. They run additional tests to run up the bill with your insurance and the office itself is very run down. Go to another practice if you value your health. read more

Dr. Ovitsh fit me in the same day when I needed an appointment. I was a new patient and he was wonderful. My husband and I both wish he still delivered babies because he would be our choice for a doctor! He was so thorough explaining things and not rushed at all. We had tests done and he had the result by 7am the next morning. I had a few questions and he replied to my e-mails immediately. Also, he has a good sense of humor and the best bedside manner I've ever seen in a doctor. His office is not fancy but I don't need a shiny office when I'm looking for excellent care. The front office and billing are a mess. They sent all the lab tests out of network without telling me and I had to pay $600+ out of pocket. They also tried to tell me that an IUD isn't covered by my insurer (it's covered under the ACA which they should know) and tried to charge me $1000. Dr. Ovitsch is so the best! I have never had an issue here. There was one point I had to come back into the office five or six times in one year. While gyno appointments can typically feel dreadful or uncomfortable, I felt calm. Dr. Ovitsch is gentle and kind, he is not overbearing whatsoever. I genuinely feel like his opinions and diagnosis' were well-thought out. He really makes you feel like he cares about the situation or issue, in my case, at hand. Careless: Had a very similar experience to Megan G...prescription was not called in to pharmacy after trying to pickup at CVS. Upon contacting the DR office, I was asked to email instead. I emailed and followed up for two weeks, could not get a response from this office. Phone calls were not answered, emails were not answered. I tried to visit the office in person two more times but couldn't get in. Never received results from examination and tests. Four months later, I receive a bill for tests, which should have been filed with my insurance company. Too time consuming, too expensive and inadequate care. read more

I ended up seeing Dr. Ovitsh after asking, years ago, in an online NYC community, if anyone knew of a good GYN. I wish I remembered that person's name so I could thank them! Pros: - You will NEVER be rushed. Any questions or concerns you have will be addressed thoroughly. - He does ultrasounds in-office, which is a blessing and a half when you need frequent ultrasounds as I do. - He actually listens to patients' input and preferences when it comes to courses of treatment. - He's just a nice guy, very calm demeanor, which is great for those of us who get nervous during medical appointments. - His staff is very friendly, personable and generally very helpful. Cons: - Since he never rushes anyone, he does tend to run late. Bring a book. - A few people have been writing about insurance and billing mishaps, and I've had similar experiences. It's a nuisance, and my only real complaint with his office, but it's something I'll put up with for a doctor I actually like/trust. - It can take a few tries to get test results or anything else you need to speak to the doctor about. But I've never had a real problem there. - As much as I like the current staff, I miss Eve! (Besides her impossibly gentle, calming presence, she drew blood like it was an art form; never left a mark.) This story is quite shocking and I think it is important to share it. I was trying for a baby, but when a blood test to check for pregnancy came out negative, I started taking antibiotics to fight the ecoli that was found in my urinary tract. When I went to see dr Ovitsh, I explained to him that I had pain in my abdomen and that even if a blood test was negative for pregnancy two weeks before, my menstruation hadn't come (I didn't know if it could be related with the pain or the ecoli somehow). Dr Ovitsh did a urine culture that came out negative for ecoli, and then he did an ultrasound. He told me my pelvic was inflamed and that was a sign that menstruation was about to come. "So I'm not pregnant, right?" And he said "I don't see nothing, don't worry, it will come in a few days", he guaranteed me. He recommended me to do an abdominal and pelvic cat scan (as my urologist had also suggested) to understand if there was another reason for the pain I was feeling. I did so some days after, and by the results I suspected that I could be pregnant. I did a pregnancy test at home and i couldn't believe it when it came out positive. I went to Dr Ovitsh office immediately. Visibly nervous, he did an ultrasound and confirmed that I was 5 weeks pregnant. I was 5 weeks pregnant when I did a double cat scan after he guaranteed me the menstruation was about to come. "Pelvic inflammation is a sign of pregnancy also" was all he said to me. "I was focused in the ecoli". Dr Ovitsh has a good bedside manner and seems very kind, sweet and caring, but it is quite surprising that a professional gynecologist with many years of experience couldn't even consider that I was pregnant, even if he was focused on something else. For me, this mistake could have profound and severe consequences and it has put me in a very difficult situation. read more

I had a very good 1st visit with the doctor. He gave me great advice and was so so nice. We talked a bit and it was quick and painless. His assistant who took my blood work was also extremely nice and talkative. I am moving to another state but will probably come back to him for my visits when i visit home. This doctor is negligent. Stay away. He prescribed a medicine to me which forces ovulation without even testing to see if I was pregnant which I was. I ended up taking this medicine and endangering my baby due to his negligence. I personally had no symptoms so I did not know until it was too late. I should sue him. I was deciding between him and another obgyn and I must admit, even though he had not been my first choice initially I am so glad I found him. The receptionist is fab as is the amazing nurse Eva, she is extremely personable and they both always remember me each visit. Dr Ephraim himself is very gentle and shy sort of in his manner but totally put me at ease. He meets you initially and when nurse is finished he meets you again to just run through everything. Do NOT visit this doctor. Nice enough, but could easily get a good attitude and same average service elsewhere, somewhere where you would not receive a bill for over $2100 4 months after service listing 10+ tests that were never even mentioned to you, and despite having full coverage health insurance. I went in for a pap smear and then a follow up, and this happened to me. Based on reviews seems I am not alone and this disgusting, run-down office is using sneaky tests hoping we won't notice and just pay the bill. Shameful and probably illegal. read more

This is actually a painful review to write because of how nice Dr. Ovitsh is and his amazing bedside manner. I went for my annual on 4/13. I had my blood taken and was expecting to get my blood work sent to the lab immediately. The Dr. advised that he would be out of the office for Passover until 5/2. I asked directly "will there be someone here to follow up with my blood work" he said that there would be. Well I called the following week. no answer. I left a voicemail. No return phone call. I called the following day. VM full. I called every business day. No response. I called today, left another VM. 2 hours later no response. I called the insurance company, no claim was sent in by the DR or the LAB which makes me wonder if my lab work was even sent to the lab. I don't know what is happening in that office. If feels like in the past year the service has plummeted. I will be visiting the office next week when the Dr is back because I will be speaking to him face to face about how disappointed I am. I will also be filing a complaint with the Medical Board of New York.
