I recently had surgery to excise a massive endometrioma in one ovary and deep infiltrating endometriosis. I spoke to many surgeons at NYU and was disappointed by their lack of responsiveness, care and respect. I did not want to feel like just another number. I was referred to Dr. Lerner by another doctor and she did not dissapoint. Dr. Lerner and I had many virtual consultations where she explained in detail pre-operative care, details of the surgery and post-op care. She always had time to answer my questions. She treated me with respect and compassion. Her admin team led under the tutelage of Nadia was incredible. They are so responsive, polite and organize everything for you unlike many other admin teams in NYC who are rude, non responsive and unprofessional. My case was more complicated than initially thought and she performed a tough five hour surgery. Her team was impeccable. At 8 am the next day Dr. Lerner called to check on me. Not many surgeons would follow up quite so quickly!! I admire Dr. Lerner and her team and look forward to fully healing and feeling better again. My experience with this doctor was very negative, but it appears that most folks are satisfied with her. I assume that these people have health insurance that is much better than Medicaid. My conclusion is that this doctor has compassion for you when you or your health insurance will bring her the most monetary reward. If you've got Medicaid, be on your guard and/or run! She was pushing hysterectomy on me nearly the second I walked through the door, without knowing anything about my particular endometriosis. There was also something off about her manner. She had me do an MRI. It was during our second appointment, that I saw how much of a viper this woman was. She was adamant and persistent on me having a hysterectomy, which I was absolutely against. Huge red flag, since a hysterectomy doesn't cure endometriosis. She said that she wouldn't be able to help me in any way, unless I had one. Her icy cold manner, manipulative tactics, intimidating vibe, all reeked of someone that is a sociopath. I pick up people's intentions, and recognize sociopaths well. I left her office nearly in tears. I nearly died twice due to endometriosis. This doctor was my only option. I'm glad she helped women with better health insurances (according to the other reviews). But if you're in my situation, please be careful with Dr. Lerner. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Lerner. I had a complicated surgery with a very large fibroid that needed to come out and also needing a gallbladder removal at the same time. Dr. Lerner helped create a treatment plan for the fibroids that worked for me and helped me find a general surgeon at the same hospital to remove the gallbladder at the same time. I was also looking for a fertility doctor as well since with my large fibroid we were not sure if I would be able to save my uterus and she also referred me to one she trusted. She was always available when I had questions or random pain. Even on the day of the surgery when I was still nervous, she was comforting and said everything would be okay. I know with the size of my fibroid it was more difficult to remove laparoscopically but Dr. Lerner was able to do it. She followed up the day after to make sure I was doing okay and not in too much pain. 6 weeks out now and I am feeling great and like a new person thanks to her. read more

I honestly never take the time to right reviews, but when Googling Dr. Lerner's number out of laziness, I came across these reviews and just had to put my two cents in as it is so contrary to what some of the previous reviewers have said. I have had a chronic ongoing condition and have seen many, MANY doctors. I finally came to Dr. Lerner after a recommendation from a coworker. She was the first doctor to treat me as a human being and not some hypochondriac. She made me feel so comfortable, spent plenty of time in her office discussing options with me and making sure that all of my questions were answered. As we started pursuing surgical options, she made me aware of things that no other surgeon had regarding possible outcomes (even ones who were ready to schedule surgery with me within days). I felt more informed in one visit with her than I was with doctors I had seen multiple times. Dr. Lerner was especially mindful of the fact that much of what we were discussing was sensitive and that was clearly reflected in her bedside manner. The idea that someone would call her cold is so absurd to me based on my experience. read more

I had my Excision with Dr Lerner in May 2021, I had a previous Ablation and it just really didn't help I knew I needed an expert excision. She was amazingly talented and the went great she got every single bit. It's the only surgery I've had that the surgeon took time to help with gas pain and thought completely about aftercare and what the following weeks would be like. The care of her team was amazing and I could tell she treated everyone with respect that came into the operating room, she introduced me to everyone that would be there and told me exactly who would see me and in what positions. It was very calming, I'd highly recommend her for anyone looking for relief - for fertility or, for a better quality of life. I made an appointment with Dr Lerner out of a recommendation from a client. She was 2 hours late which I don't mind really - I work in the medical field, not many appointments run ontime. What disappointed me was how judgmental and condescending she was towards my beliefs and life style. If you don't agree with the way a person lives their life, there is a professional way to voice that. I don't agree with everything people do out there but I don't try to make them feel down. I would give her 0 stars if I could. It takes quite a while to get an appointment with her. Then when you do you will be sitting in the waiting room for at least an hour. In my visit with her, she only looked at my PAST medical records in order to give me the bad news. I questioned why she did not run any tests due to my being a new patient and eventually she did recommend an MRI. She is not very knowledgeable on patients with endometriosis yet claims she is. I very seldom find myself writing reviews, however this one was very much needed. I have had longstanding issues with my fibroids and decided that this was just my way of life. Although, I rarely complained my daughter advised me to explore my options with my issues of my fibroids as it would increase my quality of life. After dealing with indifference and incompetence from a slew of doctors, Dr Lerner made me trust medical professionals again. She took her time with me to explain surgical options and their benefits, long term outcome post-surgery, and addressed all my questions, even the ones I forgot to ask. When it came time for surgery, it turned out that my body had tricked the ultrasound and MRI, and I had a different problem entirely. Dr. Lerner quickly adapted, and adjusted the procedure whilst keeping it minimally invasive. I was able to go home the same day, and she checked up on me the next. Dr. Lerner's bedside manner is a little brusque but in a great no-nonsense way that I appreciated. There is no B.S. with her and she takes the time to answer all questions, without impatience. She took my concerns about pelvic pain seriously (something my 2 previous gyns did not) and I was subsequently diagnosed with a 7 cm uterine fibroid. I ended up going in for surgery with Dr. Lerner and she was both supportive and capable. I am healing nicely and so glad I went to see her. Her staff is also very friendly and efficient. Dr. Lerner is the best doctor/surgeon I have ever had! She was very logical, straightforward and thorough when discussing my diagnosis and provided me with handouts about my condition to read at home. Perhaps some people confuse this with poor bedside manner, but I found her to be extremely helpful and compassionate. When I met with her the day of my surgery and in the operating room, she made me feel really safe and calm (I was so nervous before!). I was referred to Dr.Lerner because my Doctor could not perform the surgery needed, due to my endometriosis. My first visit with her she had no compassion, or bed side manner for how sick I have been, nor did she make me feel better about the outcome. I had to basically explain my disease to her. She then said if we were to do surgery we would need a colorectal surgeon involved (I have had two surgeries have never heard such thing), she emailed me the next day stated that she found a doctor at NYU that takes my insurance, I set up an appointment to go see this doctor, to then get a bill a week later stating he does not work with my provider. When I called Dr.Lerner she said oh well I don't know what to tell you, I cannot do anything about that, ( though she was the one who said he took my insurance, and set up surgery with him, but she has nothing to do with it)I said well now what about my surgery? She says well guess you will have to find a colorectal surgeon and have two separate surgeries sense I cannot find one to participate with me. I stated my concern of having to have two separate surgeries, if there was any way we could find maybe another gynecologist that was experience with the rectum, and intestines sense I have lost 25 pounds from not being able to eat, that was my main concern. Her reply was this relationship is not working, good luck, your surgery is canceled. She also asked me to get my medical records, no big deal? The hospital asked that I have her send over a request as well as they take the request a lot more serious when coming from a Doctor. When a nicely asked Dr.Lerner to do so her reply was verbatim "get your parents involved if you cannot handle it "I explained to her it was per the hospital request and her snide remark was not appreciated. I traveled from long island four times to this doctor, and testing spent a lot of money to do so, to be told good luck, your surgery is canceled, because I asked a question. It is disgusting, I do not see how she even has patients, she dragged her feet for two months, to cancel my surgery to now leave me right back at square one and sicker then I was. Maybe it was for the best she did not seem to know much about my disease at all anyway. But fair warning if you need a doctor with bed side manner, and who actually cares, and cares how you feel and your concerns do not go to her, I wish someone warned me. I have never written a review in my life but I am so disgusted on how she treated me, knowing how ill I have been, after my doctor fully explained it to her, she is in the wrong field. read more

I asked her basic medical questions about issues I was having and not only could she not answer them, or even really attempt to help me figure it out, but she could not even identify the correct specialty doctor to refer me to. Dr. Lerner is very patient, friendly, and professional. She gave me a very thoroughly and detailed explanation of my surgery. She is also a sympathetic listener- when I could not understand a term or some English words, she explained in plain English and showed me pictures to help me understand everything. Our post-surgery checkup was scheduled on the third week, but she called to check on me on the second day of my surgery. I had uterine fibroids that we're giving me some trouble and decided to go forward with a laparoscopic myomectomy to have them removed. My GYN referred me to Dr. Lerner. My initial meetings with Dr. Lerner were fine. She did not seem to be the most compassionate or knowledgeable doctor, but I figured she is a surgeon that has done many of these operations and experience should be my main concern so I scheduled my surgery with her. My surgery was successful and everything seemed fine until about 3 weeks later. I began to experience severe pain, fatigue and mobility problems for the first time in my life (I was a fit woman in my 30s with no pre-existing health problems). I reached out to Dr. Lerner immediately, but I was not able to speak with her until my post-op follow-up appointment a few days later. At that appointment, I explained what was going on, but it did not seem like Dr. Lerner was taking my concerns seriously. She told me it was probably just normal post-surgery recovery stuff, she ran some blood work and a few days later, when the blood work results came back normal, her assistant let me know. Unfortunately, my symptoms just kept getting worse and worse. I reached out to Dr. Lerner one more time after having seen a different doctor who suggested that I might have developed an undetectable blood clot following the surgery that could be responsibly for my symptoms. I wanted to share this information with Dr. Lerner and get her advice. She told me in no uncertain terms that "I did not have a blood clot" and when I asked her how she could be sure of that (she had not seen any of my scans or even spoken to me since our post-op visit), she began to repeat "what do you want from me." Needless to say, that was the last time I spoke with Dr. Lerner. I did eventually get the help and treatment I needed, but without any assistance - or compassion - from Dr. Lerner. If I had it all to go back and do over, there is no way I would choose Dr. Lerner as my surgeon. Unfortunately, we rarely know when life is going to saddle us with a health crisis. My best advice is to choose doctors you believe will be there for you even if the unexpected occurs. read more

My OB/GYM was unable to perform surgery, and referred me to Dr. Lerner. I was very nervous as this was my first major procedure. Dr. Lerner clearly explained everything, went over all my questions and made sure that I competely understood the procedure from prep to recovery, and had the foresight to schedule my post-op appointment before surgery so it was one less thing I had to worry about while recuperating. I felt completely at ease. Her entire office made me feel very comfortable, and I knew I was in good hands. Her nurses were efficient and friendly, and her secretary was amazing. She caught what could have been a major insurance issue before it happened, and readily fixed it for me. My surgery went well, and Dr. Lerner's thorough explanations of post-op care prevented any worrying and I was back on track, right on schedule.
