I've been to Epic Burger four times so far. I wouldn't call their beef burger 'out of this world' tasty but it is definitely not average either and I actually do really like it. However, with Epic Burger, there is more to just how the food tastes. They use all natural ingredients, livestock that were naturally (and hopefully also humanely) raised, and supplies that help reduce negative impact on the environment. I usually get the Epic (beef) burger in whole wheat bun with horseradish Havarti cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, lots of pickles, and their Epic sauce. I also get sweet potato fries with their honey mustard dip (it is so good I always take home what remains of my dip!) and they have free unlimited drink refills. The staff in this location are really exceptional. I will be trying other options in their menu on my next visits. read more

Decent burger and a nice overall experience at the new Old Orchard location. This is my first time at an Epic Burger and didn't know much about the place. EB claims to be all natural beef with no hormones and veggie fed. This is one thing I appreciate and I look for when eating burgers nowadays. I like to be as conscious as I can about what I eat and I like that more and more food spots are adhering to all natural and local. EB uses as local fresh produce as they can as well as buns that have no additives or preservatives. I walked into the Skokie location a couple days after they had first opened and everyone was smiling, excited and ready to help. It took me a minute to figure out how to order and what. I was helped along the way and the menu was pretty easy and straightforward. I ended up getting the regular epic burger for $5.99, plus cheddar (extra $.89), cage free organic egg ($.69), and then lettuce, tomato and grilled onion. I appreciated the additional add-ons like bacon and the standard included ingredients like grilled or raw onion and the special epic sacue. I added fresh cut fries and a drink for a total of $11. Not bad for the quality you pay for and if you just want a burger with some veggies, you'll only pay $5.99. You can go the junior route for $4.99 or the double for $7.99. Not sure who would do the double, the single is pretty damn big. The fries and drink make it a meal deal, which is a good route. I was so out of it when I went in that I didn't even realize that besides fountain or bottle sodas and water EB has real fruit smoothies, shakes and malts with either all natural ice cream or fat free frozen yogurt. Lots of flavors and options; I'm glad I didn't see this until my way out because it would have been over if I had chocolate peanut butter malt. Other options on the menu include a turkey burger (nice!), chicken or portabella sandwich for those that want to avoid the beef. A lot burger places have certain things that set them apart and for EB it's not just the quality ingredients but the epic sauce. The sauce was tasty and mild and seemed to be some kind of mayo-based dressing (though it was thick and creamy) that looked a little lighter than a thousand island. I can't place the taste but perhaps a mix of chipotle, thousand island and mayo. It tasted good on the burger and on fries but it's no In N Out special sauce. After you order you get a number and you find a place to sit. Your food is brought out to you and you are asked if you need anything like silverware or salt and pepper. The tables have organic Heinz ketchup and grey poupon. I do like these selections and found some malt vinegar by the silverware. I can't recall seeing any hot sauce but if they don't I'd suggest having some on hand. Anyway, so I got my burger and it was huge (thick and big in diameter). After seeing this monstrosity and realizing that I had a bagel sandwich for breakfast I should have passed on the fries and had a junior cheddar burger without the egg and on a wheat bun. I failed to mention you can choose a wheat or white bun. The burger was a bit sloppy and greasy but part of that was due to the add-ons. The burger itself was a bit greasy and after a while soaked through the bun. I'm not a huge fan of that but a good juicy burger is a good sign. The bun was pretty hefty and very tasty so it should hold up well. The beef itself was good but not the best I've had. I wasn't blown away and expected a better flavor throughout for all natural beef. I could however, tell how fresh it was (I heard the meat is ground in-house daily) and the patty was big, probably 1/4 lb. The patty was also reminiscent of a griddled paddy which I appreciated. This wasn't my favorite burger but it definitely ranks up there with a decent burger, on par with an 5 Guys or Edzo's in Evanston. The fries were fine; had a mild flavor and tasted fresh and hand cut but I wish they were cooked a bit more. On athother note, I did like that the cups used for drinks are make from plants so less plastic used in the business. All in all, EB was a nice experience and a fine burger. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to go here but if I'm hungry and at Old Orchard I'd come. If I'm in the City I'd probably go to another spot on my list to try and then go to my regular spots first but if I'm close and hungry I'll stop by. I think having an EB at Old Orchard in Skokie is a nice addition and will be successful in this burger craze. read more

Epic Burger is on the North end of Old Orchard Mall next to Crate & Barrel. Great food, friendly employees and fast service. The meat for the burgers are ground fresh daily I was told by the manager and you can tell buy the taste. The texture of the burgers and the taste make you think it was made at home. I like the way the menu is laid out and it makes it easy to order. All sandwiches are the same price. If you want the best deal, buy the combo that gives you a sandwich, fries and a fountain drink for $8.97. If you want a good meal, good service at a reasonable price then Epic Burger is for you! Not very "Epic" Came for lunch on a Sunday. I've heard good things about Epic burger so we wanted to come try. I had the combo fries and shake with the double Epic burger with cheese and hubby had the same but just one patty and an egg. It was maybe $27? Pretty pricey for some burgers. We waited outside. For some reason there were a ton of little kids there so no seats inside. They brought out the burgers but did not have napkins or ketchup outside so we had to wait for that. It was very greasy and oily, maybe because of my grilled onions? The onions were tasty. the bun had a nice crispy inside but the patty was so bland! It just tasted like flattened ground beef. Actually the consistency was like ground beef. No flavor whatsoever. I didn't even notice the Epic Sauce. The fries were chunky cut and looked like it had some seasonings on it but tasted like cardboard. I barely ate my big bag of fries even though I love fries. VERY sad. The only thing I enjoyed was the vanilla shake, which tasted just like softened vanilla bean ice cream. Probably won't go there again. read more

I love this 'fast food' joint over any other. Their burgers are delicious, and the plant-based Beyond is impressively tasty, and a great alternative to the typical fare. Their mindful business platform resonates with me and my business as a nutrition and health practitioner. This is a solid burger place. The burger was juicy, the bun was soft but big enough that it doesn't fall apart, and allows you to be able to keep all the wonderful toppings on. Fries are fresh cut, I didn't get a chance to try the sweet potato fries, but they looked great. Fountain and some specialty sofas which my son loved. They bring the food to your table, and clean up once your done. And the staff was really friendly and attentive. It is clear that Old Orchard is trying to raise its ethos with the new dining options. Epic Burger, with its slick interior, highly conspicuous organic ingredients, and reputation as a member of the Chicago gourmet burger revolution, is clearly a part of this. On external appearance alone, this place will likely succeed at convincing North Shore clientele that this is a burger worth clenching their freshly-manicured fingers around. Personally, I'm not sold that these burgers cut the mustard (which, by the way, is Grey Poupon in squeeze bottles). I had a regular burger, topped with a fried egg, and a side of fries. Certain elements of my order were very good; the bun was delicious, the pickles were sufficiently flavorful that I did not need to augment the burger with sauce, and the fries were clearly hand-cut and fried to perfection (crisp on the outside, pillowy on the inside). Other components were less pleasant. With all the hubbub about the beef being hormone/additive free, I expected this patty to have a truly unique, delicious flavor, similar to Edzo's in Evanston. Sadly, this was bland; never mind Edzo's, I find the burgers down the street at Portillo's to be significantly more flavorful than these. A fried egg can often salvage such a situation, but this one was noticeably devoid of yolk, and what little yolk was there was cooked to death beyond recognition. What's the point of burning calories and money on a fried egg if there's no luscious yolk running down your patty like lava? None, I say. Lastly, the otherwise well-prepared fries were sorely lacking salt; thus, despite being delectably cooked, they were little more than glorified ketchup vehicles. I'd say the meal was solidly pedestrian. In summary: Epic Burger makes fairly good hamburgers that are certainly an upgrade over the other options that have historically graced Old Orchard. I may be back if I find myself shopping here for other reasons, and get a craving for a burger that can't accommodate a 5-10 minute drive to a superior establishment. We bought 4 burgers, 1 tiny side salad and 3 fries for $53.23. That seems outrageous to me, especially if you consider that the burgers were only about 3" in diameter and 1/2" thick. For mine, I ordered cheddar cheese for an extra .99, and bacon for an extra 1.49, with "everything." (lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions, and "Epic Sauce." The cheddar cheese was barely visible on the burger, just a faint tinge of orange which showed up on 1/10 of the burger area. I couldn't taste any cheese on it. The bacon was 1 strip, cut in half, topped with a half teaspoon of grilled onions. The lettuce, I kid you not, was one small 2" square. The tomato, one small slice, 1/4" thick which didn't begin to be enough, and the pickles, 2 slices, were ok. What a disappointment. It made Portillo's bacon cheeseburger look like a feast. For $53 we could have had a good meal at many restaurants in our area. Never again! PS....I called to let the manager, Derrick, know. He offered me a $5.00 discount on my next meal. read more

Good- yes, epic- no way. I appreciate the hormone free meat and dairy products, fresh vegetables and freshly baked ( no preservative) buns; that is what lured us in. I ordered my kids a junior burger and my husband had a turkey burger. He said they were average. My chicken sandwich wrapped in lettuce was salty. Best part was the strawberry milkshake my children downed. It was delicious. It's fast, and you can feel good about what you are eating, so I give it 4 stars. Along the lines of Epic, Smash, M Burger, and Five guys, this one was better than the rest. A griddled patty is not exactly to my liking but it wasn't bad. Wasn't great either. The bun itself was good and the toppings seemed fine with grilled onions and epic sauce(thousand island), but when it came to the meat, you get just a flat grilled patty. 5.99 for a burger with no cheese, (1 dollar extra) and add a drink and fries for a total of 10 bucks. For that much you can get a better burger at a much better price. The fries were natural fresh cuts, that were just above O.K. All in all, Epic burger was (im being nice) good, but it didn't meet the price. read more

We love epic burger, but the service at this location was beyond disappointing. Went for dinner, on a Sunday night at 7pm. They were out of fries- so we got sweet potatoe fries which were served cold. They were out of lemonade, and when we went to order a smoothie after our meal- we were told they were also out of milk. I'm not a huge burger eater, in fact I eat 1, maybe 2 burgers a year. That being said, I'm glad this was 1 of those 2 burgers this year. My mom and I took a break for lunch during a recent shopping excursion and the burger here was fresh and yummy. The bread was good too, which is key for a good burger and you could choose add ons like onions and cheese and whatever else you want. It's seat yourself, cafeteria-style order and put a number on your table for the employees to drop off. The service was great, decor was cute and clean. They have outdoor seating for nice days and the food was good. The only complaint I have is that the meat falls apart a little. Maybe they don't put enough binding ingredients into the burger, but it started to fall apart a bit. It was so delicious that I mopped up the meat that fell out anyway. I ordered a Craft Rootbeer, but what was in this bottle was anything but Rootbeer. The HVAC vents were LOADED with caked on months or even years of dirt and dust. Kinda nasty in a place your gonna eat at. I looked up on the walls and guess what??? More nasty dust and dirt. Fyi Owner or Manager!!! We went to this place just for quick snacks while waiting for our pictures at picture people. We only ordered French fries. And it took them more than 30 minutes to serve us French fries. We kept waiting and when we asked them after 10 mins, they had not put the order in. Then again after waiting for another 10 mins, they said that they have just put the fries in fryer. At this time, we were quite frustrated and asked them to cancel the order. We were told they are almost ready and asked us to wait for 2 more mins.
