I made an appointment thinking the dermatologist would come with a medical approach and analysis of my skincare needs. I paid a $25 copay from insurance and hoped to receive greater care than a typical med spa. I left with advice to make another appointment with an aesthetician and a list of products to buy. Sunflower Dermatology-Riverside Missouri- Probably won't post reviews that are unfavorable. I will not give them a rating (I had to give it a 1 in order to post) and I will not return to them nor will I recommend them to anyone I know. Their billing practices are less than acceptable. You must keep a credit card or debit card on file with them. I have Tri-Care insurance. Sunflower Dermatology knew the insurance was resubmitting and yet they charged my debit card "without notifying me first" and while my husband is on active duty orders with the United States Army during the government shutdown. read more

I had a horrible experience with this office. I liked the doctor at first, but found the office staff incredibly condescending and difficult. They spoke to all the elderly patients as though they were three-years-old and it disgusted me when I sat in the waiting room waiting to be called back. They are easy to get an appointment with quickly, unlike many other dermatology offices, but there is a very obvious reason for that. On several occasions I left messages and never received calls back. Their office manager is incredibly unprofessional and rude. When I mentioned my displeasure to my primary care doctor, she told me that she hears complaints about the office often. I will never go back to that practice and would never recommend it to anyone else. read more

I took my daughter here to have a mole removed. She didn't get in until 45 minutes after her appointment time even though I had made a special trip to drop off the paperwork the week before. When the bill came there was a balance due. I didn't expect that and asked for a bill so I could look at the charges. They REFUSED to give me a bill. I went through the insurance and found out the reason for the charges (all valid) but why refuse to send a bill? Then I asked for the biopsy report from the procedure. REFUSED. "no news is good news" so I refused to pay until I saw the report. That worked. Basically, this is a spa. They don't act like a medical office in their procedures. My doctor's office would give me a bill, a biopsy report etc with no argument. read more

I had an issue with a problematic small spot on my ear. I thought that Sunflower Derma might be a good option, and Dr. Matthys would be the one to determine my condition. When I arrived I was faced with not what appeared as a Dr.'s office, but a Spa. They wanted to take me on a tour of their facility and gave me a gift bag ? But what was really unusual was that they required a copy of my debit card ! Being on Social Security Disability and having Blue Cross supplement I have never ever had to spend anything out of pocket in the decade that I have had both....I had a bad feeling about this, it didn't feel right, but I went ahead... My diagnosis was a small basal cell carcinoma, which was determined by biopsy ....a couple of weeks later I returned to get the results and was set up for a possible three hour block of time to remove it. Without getting hold of me at the last moment, the Dr. had cancelled, I found this out when I had arrived with my three hours of open time. Seems they had left a message on an answering machine late the day before ! So wasted that time. Later about a week when I had not rescheduled because of medical problems and appointments with my wife who had been in an accident, I received a answering machine message that I was going to be debited $48 for my after insurance part of these two simple visits. I called and was very upset as to how there could be any residual amounts, they told me that both Insurances had already determined the amounts to be paid and for the first time in a decade I owed an amount!!! When I called my Bank, and explained the situation, they told me that I should have never let anyone scan my debit card. That this was a definite "RED FLAG", something my gut told me. So I was forced to cancel my card, as a person with a fixed income, can not just have $$$ available for unplanned expenses.... This facility is more a SPA than a Dr.'s Office and they I guess don't write anything off for anyone. And reading some of the other reviews I can clearly see that this is not a compassionate service but rather a Money Making Trap, I was recommended their Dr.'s sunscreen, which would be great but it cost for the two ointments over $80 !!! Which I did not purchase... Retired or fixed income folks can't use a product like that ? I would not go back for any reason as their business model is suspicious. Also their talking with me about this quickly resulted in a heated argument and them not having the professional skills to say anything but,"I'm not going to be yelled at by you!!" Don't make the mistake I did, never give your financial info out like this and use reviews to find a more ethical physician.. Later, after talking with BCBS, they said I owed nothing !!!! So they called the business and got them corrected, now I've had to cancel my debit card for nothing but their incompetence. BCBS said that if the company accepts Medicare and you have a full supplement, as I do, they must accept what is paid unless it is a non covered procedure....They also stated that it was highly suspicious for them to not have billed me formally through the mail before hitting the debit card..... Bank of America said under no situation ever let anyone scan or copy your debit card, that it is a big red flag that several of these uncompassionate providers are doing this year, seek your services else where...!! read more

There is NO WAY I would ever step foot in this place again! My husband took our 16 year old son in to have a spot looked at on his finger. Our PCP was worried it may be cancer because he had never seen anything like it before. When my husband & son arrived, they gave a tour of their spa area then gave them a bag with a mug & cookies. My husband thought that was very odd considering we didn't care about the spa, only having our son's finger looked at. TWO HOURS past the time of his appointment, they finally took my son back to a room. There was NO explanation as to why it was two hours past the apt time. The nurse asked why he was there, she then left the room. 45 minutes later, my husband is texting me at work saying the doctor STILL hadn't been in the room. I called the front desk who told me with a snotty attitude that the doctor HAD seen my son & he was already gone. I called my husband who was still in the room & STILL had NOT seen the doctor. I called back & asked for the office manager to see what kind of operation they run there.I work in a doctor's office & we do NOT leave our patients sitting there for hours without keeping them up to date every 15 minutes. I politely said my concern of the wait and was worried they had forgotten about them. She said that the doctor was walking in the room as we were speaking. She said the other doctor had called in so he was the only one. I explained it would have been nice for them to let the patients know this. They freezed the spot on my sons finger for about 20 seconds, which caused excruciating pain for him. They didn't way what he could do for the pain. My son left in tears because of all the pain (and he doesn't cry!). He didn't sleep a wink that night because of the pain, even though we gave him tylenol. Two weeks later, we noticed they charged my husbands HSA card for over $200! We never got a statement about how much we owed nor did anyone call us about the balance. Because they did this, when my husband went to pick up his meds that afternoon, he didn't have enough on his card to pay for 4 more days when his job would deposit more $ into the account....so he went without blood pressure meds for 4 days! We went back for a follow up after the huge black thing fell off his finger. Unfortunately, it was still there!. The doctor said it should have taken care of it, but it didn't! So he froze it again! He said it should definitely work this time. Guess what? The part he froze fell off last Friday & it's STILL there! When I checked him in, I wrote on their form about payment that they could NOT run anything on my card without my consent. Not only that, but they made me give them my debit card for them to copy since I didn't have my husbands HSA card, then they charged my debit card $139 WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!!! This was my gas/food money for the next 5 days! They left me with $2.12 in my account to live off because they took the funds without my permission & on the WRONG CARD!!!They only called my husbands voice mail & said there was a balance but NEVER said they were going to charge my debit card right then & there nor did they have permission to do so! I called the office to talk with the manager & the lady would say hold on, come back on the line & say she wasn't there. She then went "Oh wait", then came back on again & said "well, she's here, but not available." She promised she would call me back by 5:30pm & here it is almost 6pm now. This office only cares about making a buck off of unsuspecting people. They tried to demand I get acne cream for my son who had 1 pimple on his forehead. I told them no thanks...thank God I did! One can only feel at ease and relaxed when entering into this environment. The office is Amazing! The staff is amazing and so kind. With first patients they walk you around the facility and show you the equipment and rooms. They also introduce you to each of the staff members. Not only was I able to get in quickly and efficiently, i had actually lost the sense that I was at a doctors office and felt like I was having a friendly visit with a friend. The doctors are so nice and sociable here. My doctor was doctor Matthys. He was quite reassuring and knowledgable for what I had came in for. The procedure was quick and took little time to perform Thank you Dr. Matthys I had found the pricing to be quite reasonable and found they accept many forms of insurance as well The facility is also a day spa. I would greatly recommend this place for any woman looking for a place to rejuvenate their skin. I am certain the service and results would be more than satisfactory. I will NEVER return to this practice, and here is why. I went in with high hopes. Everyone at the front was lovely and kind! The place was clean and neat. The first time I went in for a basic check up, I was left in the waiting room for over 45 minutes even though I had an appointment and arrived early to fill out the paper work. Once I was finally taken back to the doctor's office, I waited another 20 for the doctor to actually arrive. I had to have some skin removed just to ensure everything was normal and that's when things really went downhill. My skin and body was treated so poorly and so roughly that my treated areas burned worse than anything I'd ever known! The nurse was concerned but the doctor brushed it off when I started shaking and couldn't stand. Four hours later I was still shaking and feeling horribly faint. I called them and the only useful thing they could tell me was all I was feeling was only in my head and caused by my nonexistent high anxiety. I ended up in the ER where I was told I was experiencing a mild form of shock due to what had been done to my body. Needless to say, I didn't want to go back to get the results of my scrapings that had caused me so much trouble. I tried to get the results over the phone but they refused to tell me even though in my paperwork I had indicated that it was okay. So, of course I was forced to take time off work and pay them again for a follow up visit. What was the final straw was that I was left waiting for over an HOUR when I had an appointment. After all that I only saw the doctor for 5 minutes. The second visit was a waste of my time and money. In conclusion, the people are nice and the facilities are clean, but I feel Sunflower Dermatology does not appreciate their patients or their time. or even, on occasion, the patients fears and concerns. There are much better doctors out there that are more experienced, gentler and don't let you end up in the hospital at the end of the day. read more

I was hesitant to go to a dermatologist, but it wasn't until a holistic healer I met for my back insisted i go see a doctor for my skin since I was having abnormal skin irritations due to allergic reactions. 3 weeks later, I come in and have a new concern of the scarring it has left. I wait and am offered water. a large bag of cookies and a tour. The effort was a sweet but thought they were trying way too hard to get me to come back before they even offered me any medical attention. They seem forced to be abnormally nice. When I saw Dr. Matthys, I got a sample of itch cream and was told to stand by a fan to avoid bugs. He told me he couldn't do anything even though I didnt feel like he was looking at any of my scars up and down my limbs that i kept addressing. I know they do acne scar removal but apparently it's no where near the same thing? My eyes started to water i was so fed up. It was a bad and awkward experience. They try way to hard to be customer service oriented that they could care less about actually looking into any skin problem or improving medical care quality. It just sucks trying to find a Dr. who actually wants to make your life more comfortable. Not just repeat his and his staff's staged lines and leave with your $50 copay for 5 Minutes of his useless time. This place has northland house mom & yuppie written all over it. While Dr Mathhy's is great & the clinical side of this practice is great the office staff is NOT great. Each appt my daughter had there we waited at least 30-45 min in the waiting area with no explanation. Then on what was our last visit there we came for our appt, waited over an hour, finally I informed the receptionist how long we had been waiting she informed us the doctor was running an hour behind schedule. Rather than inform us when we arrived. I told her we had some place else to be & would have to reschedule which we did. She gave me a card with the new appts date & time. A week later I am informed we were "no shows" for the appt & that they billed my credit card on file for $60! The appt they stated on the phone was NOT the same date as on my appts card. When I informed the office manager of this she was unwilling to remove the charge and became very snotty. I called my cc company and disputed the charge. It was reversed but no apology and no response from the doc in regards to a letter I sent about the incident. Very unprofessional and not very ethical office practices! It is all about the money there & not about the patient. We now see Dr. Rouse and have nothing but positive experiences in his office! read more

I went in for a consult for Fraxel (laser to get rid of uneven skin tone and scars, etc). I showed up a day early because I am an idiot but they got me in anyway(it was 830am). I sat with a very nice lady who may not have been one of the normal estheticians, and she talked to me about all kinds of stuff, including health stuff and my skincare routine, etc. She was very nice and knowledgeable, she had beautiful skin, and she was very helpful. I ended up buying some product that I LOVE, and already has had a noticeable impact. The products were rather expensive, but it is a medical spa, so that's kinda how it works. I plan on going back whenever I need a facial, as they have specials there on them, and I would rather go there than a salon, since they sell the product I have been using on my moneymaker. They have package deals for the treatment I have interest in, but honestly, the product I bought may do the trick and I might not need the treatment. I got a couple samples also. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Mathys for about 3 years... along with myself my son, my daughter and my husband are/were all patients. Dr. Mathys is a very nice Dr. and always seems very attentive and caring. The front desk staff need to get out of the customer service field completely. They are snooty, non caring and quite frankly I will not step a foot in their office again. We are required to wait a minimum of 45 min every time we have an appointment. The last time I went to Sunflower Dermatology it was for a "redo". I had something burned off and Dr. Mathys looked me in the eye and said if this comes back you just come back and see me and there will be no charge. I tried to explain this to the Front desk lady and she would not listen to me until I finally had enough and asked to talk to the Office Manager(who was brand new) She was extremely apologetic and nice, but by that time I've had it ...I do not know where the front desk and some of the others received their training but it needs to be improved on. Ms. Snooty front desk is the very first impression you receive when you arrive there and what a difference it would be if there was a big smile...not a plastic fake half irritated grimace. I am very dissappointed that they lost 4 patients along with anyone else i might have the privledge of repeating my bad experience to. read more

I can't believe I get to share this with you, but when I am done you'll have a better understanding of this practice and the CARE that is provided to you here. I first came to this practice when taking my mother who needed to be seen by Dr. Mattyths. As he was leaving the room he looked at me and said " You really need to see a plastic surgeon for your Rhinophyma. I suggest, Monarch plastic surgery." I was grateful as I have been suffering with it along with rosacea for years. I did as he said as I left that day. I called and got an appointment. I also made an appointment to be seen by Dr.Mattyths and thus it begun my journey to fix my nose. Dr. Mattyths has been compassionate and determined to help me. Not only the Look of it but my self-esteem needed help too. Working with him to control the rosacea and rhinophyma has been a Wonderful experience. I am happy to report I will in fact review the surgery I need from the kindness of a stranger and the plastic surgeon donating his time and talent. See insurance doesn't cover this much needed surgery. So working with a team of Doctors who truly CARE and want the best for everyone walking in that door patient or not has been life changing for me. I love the place that Sunflower Dermatology has moved to. But sadly the service is exactly the same. I have waited weeks to get back my test result, and still don't know what my results are. They are also quick to reach into your banking account to take out your balance without notifying you or anything. CHA CHING!!!! Somebody just got paid!!! Don't think we will go back! Took my daughter in for acne, wart removal and to have some moles examed. The doctor seemed nice but somewhat rushed. The nurse was to provide information to my daughter about how to take care of her skin after the wart & mole was removed. She did not and we found ourselves actually having to ask the receptionist questions. No instructions were written down for my daughter, we did buy products to help her with her acne but still have not healed (3 weeks later) and the receptionist could not tell my daughter the order in which she needed to use the products, I had to figure it out. I also do not care for their billing policy. They do not send out statements. After your insurance is filed, they go ahead and charge your card that they keep on file (which you must give them when you go in)! Just not for us.... read more

The 1st prescription I was given was going to be over $300, even with insurance. I called twice to see if I could get a different prescription and was never called back. I was also told that I would be contacted after my insurance was processed, so I knew how much I would be charged for the appt. Once again, no one ever contacted me and they just charged my debit card. I think that was extremely unprofessional! What if I didn't have enough money in my acct to cover it? SO, I read below where it was stated that positive changes were made due to bad press from unhappy customers. I recently visited and Sounds like Rhonda A. and I had the same run around with billing. I could not be more dissatisfied with the experience I went through with this places billing department. All in all I had a decent experience with Dr. Rudloff a little pricy compared to other places receiving the same procedure, I was prescribed ridiculously priced prescriptions solved with over the counter creams recommended by pharmacist, but to be expected with high end SPA/DERM place. My nurses bedside manor was Awesome!! I checked out once my minor procedure was complete and thought no problems. Paid what I thought was in full. A while later like a week and a half, I was contacted by billing and told that I was charged incorrectly in office. I had used health benefits that needed to be spent before the end of year. I receive these yearly and use this for the same procedure yearly! SO I know how it works. They attempted to run my benefits again for the amount I was not charged for, this declined. I was contacted at least 4 more times that day and by someone else the following day after informing I was waiting for a call back from benefits company. Being told that she wanted to clear out her email so could I take care of this. Might I add this was not my error and this was effecting my schedule to get their error resolved so she could clear out her email. I paid the amount and after spending $700.00 dollars self pay, ended up with $25.14 remaining balance. I was NOT contacted about this remaining amount after the initial running of the card, but was told after the fact ...they had reached out to me and left voicemails. (Did not have missed calls, Did not have any voicemails at any time) I was contacted by my health benefits company requesting an itemized copy of the billing. Almost a month later. Since my card was ran more than once. I requested this from Sunflower's billing and find that the 20% discount promised upon scheduling was not on the receipt and they claim that this auto populates for self paying patients. When being told of the 20% discount they were not aware I was self paying. SO that doesn't really make sense to me. After asking about the discount that does not appear on my billing statement. I was told that I was not charged correctly for my office visit either and she would need to contact the billing department so they could correct this...so this is now the 3rd billing error and me being told/threatened if I do not pay my $25.14 it is going to be sent to collections...no biggy would have paid it had I been given a "friendly" reminder I even owed it after the error in billing to begin with. Also Might I add on a side note I took a chance even going to this SPA/Derm Location because my elderly Grandmother also used this place and said nice looking place but Billing nightmare! Went against that advise thinking eh couldn't be the same scenario. Was very wrong!! She had skin Cancer several years back so she is over cautious on being checked if anything looks off. After being seen she was charged for hers and for somebody else's appointment on her insurance and took several attempts from her and a lengthy amount of time to get this issue corrected by Sunflower Dermatology's billing dept.. SO, I see others are unsatisfied I received very poor Customer Service/Accounting resolutions on more than 1 occasion. I stated that me nor my family members would be returning if this was going to be the general practice for the visits. She told me it was her Pleasure to cancel my appointment. I am a CSR/Sales/Accounting Rep Lead I would fire any one of these employees if they conducted business in this manor. I will be returning to my regular care provider that I drive much further to get to but know that my business and health care is valued at. Marissa in the billing dept could not be any more unprofessional and rude if she tried. They do not send out bills or statements, they just simply charge your credit card that they make you have on file or you cannot be treated. We simply requested something in writing showing what the charges were and Marissa just couldnt even stand to have to give that to us. She expected because my husband signed the form that they arent required to give you anything. She interrupted me on the phone saying she was trying to talk, and then started to say something else, and said, "ugh, its noll and void now, forget - i said what were you going to say? she said - it doesnt even matter, just forget it" So although they are a fancy 'spa' dermatologist, if a personal touch and compassionate customer service is important to you - skip this place. I was formerly receiving care at st. Luke's for my skin, but they messed up my prescription so I needed a new place I could trust. I called sunflower and I got in with a dermatologist immediately. When I got they I received a welcome bag filled with nice healthy gestures like organic cookies and a mug with coffee. One of the workers offered me a tour while I was waiting for my appointment and she was very welcoming. During my appointment I met with a nurse to go over health history followed by the dermatologist assistant. Both were extremely helpful to do a proper consultation to prep the dermatologist with all of my needs. I saw Dr. Matthys and he set me up with a topical prescription and set me up with a cleanser and lotion to get rid of my acne customized to my skin type. He also suggested other services that would speed up my results. I was then introduced to a technition that showed and explained services they provided. I truly feel they show you multiple options to set you up for success and if you take the suggestions your garunteed for success. Thanks sunflower I will be back and refer many. read more

I really like Dr. Menser but her office staff seems to be very disorganized. When dealing with routine issues, I've gotten several phone calls from different staff saying different things. Handling something that should be easy, ends up taking several frustrating phone calls to accomplish! I got an email reminder today about an appointment on Friday 9/4. I called to let them know that my appointment was actually for Friday 9/11 because I was scheduled to be out of town on the 4th. They confirmed that I was on the schedule for the following Friday.....no problem. "My email reminder must have been a computer glitch." A few minutes later I get a phone call asking to reschedule my appointment on the 11th because Dr. Menser no longer see's patients on Fridays! I asked why I wasn't told that when I confirmed just a few minutes prior and was told it must have been "the new girl". I had scheduled that appointment 6 months earlier and was now being told that Dr. Menser didn't have an opening until November! They offered to let me see a physician's assistant but with my history of skin cancer and the fact that I have a new mole that I'm concerned about, neither option was acceptable. I asked to have the office manager call me back, which she never did. I made an appointment elsewhere. read more
