She cries every time a cat gets adopted because she becomes so attached, which honestly makes the place even more special. I am also really impressed by how clean the cafe is. I have been to several other cat cafes, and they usually smell at least a little, but this one does not at all. There are plenty of toys to play with the cats, a kitten room, and a quiet room, which I really appreciate. It gives cats with certain personalities a chance to relax away from others when things feel overwhelming. The George Mason volunteers are incredibly thoughtful and kind to the cats, and they even learn every cat's name, even if they are only volunteering for a short time. Most of the cats were rescued from Kuwait and had been placed on kill lists simply for being labeled "ugly" or for having disabilities. I really love that no cat is overlooked here and that everyone is welcome. Even the bathroom has adorable sticky notes reminding you that you are beautiful. Patriot Pawsabilities is definitely my favorite cat cafe, and it is very affordable too. I highly recommend stopping by. They even post monthly activities on Facebook, like yoga or movie nights, which makes it even more fun to visit.

Workers are very nice, there were lots of cats to interact with, the space is big, and there's a separate room for kittens. Would recommend for anyone who likes cats and/or is thinking of adopting--most of the cats are adoptable!

Prior to John, I had an everlasting feeling of impending doom that I could not comprehend. John listened to all of my problems while I was talking 1000 words per minute and was able to help me understand the root causes of my anxiety. After that came the coping mechanism and practices to rebuild the neuropathways to be freed from anxiety. After starting counseling with John, I have moved out to Washington, DC, gotten a promotion at my job, built better friendships and I feel comfortable in my own skin anywhere I go. While I am not free from anxiety yet, I know I am well on my way there. Every time I meet with John, I get one step closer. He truly is a breath of fresh air. Oh and did I mention that he ACTUALLY listens to you? The number of times he has quoted, word by word, things I said months ago let me know that I have found a counselor who genuinely cares about me. Thank you for everything John! I owe you a lot more than you know. If you are looking for someone who will understand you, care for you and help you move past any mental blocks, John is the man. I can't say it enough!

Support for Injury Recovery…read more I see Shari monthly for Healing Touch sessions, which helps keep me grounded and supports me in multiple ways on my wellness and self care journey. What I have also come to realize is that Shari is a great resource after experiencing a trauma to support recovery. I had recently slipped on the steps at home and hit my back pretty soundly. Though I iced it and did other things to mitigate pain, the next day it was still quite uncomfortable. I gave Shari a call and was able to see her that afternoon. After her treatment my back felt so much calmer. And over the next few days I only experienced mild tenderness as my back continued to heal. I was amazed at how quickly I was back to feeling myself again. Thank you, Shari, for your healing touch!

She also shared her experience dealing with a beloved dog she had who was diagnosed with the same ailment. We highly recommend Shari and are grateful for the work she has done for Baxter.

To make the process as easy as possible I also recommend adopters: do your research and assess your life, schedule, lease, and budget to decide what you are looking for and what dog needs you can meet in advance. Do your application and your adoption counseling in advance--your Lucky Dog adoption counselor is a great resource and you will get preference at events if you are pre-approved. Read about all the dogs and ask questions about the dogs you are interested in advance--if they are foster care there may be more info about them available to the adoption counselor than is publicly posted or their foster may have a social media account for them. Puppy/dog proof your house in advance. If this is your first dog, read/watch a dog training book/video in advance. Come to an event knowing what dogs you want to meet and ready to take one home. Be ready to train and socialize your new dog from scratch, even if it is not a puppy. Picking and bringing any new pet home and integrating them into your life will take bravery, patience, flexibility, and effort; thoughtful preparation and a supportive rescue agency, like Lucky Dog, make it a little easier. I am grateful every day that Lucky Dog saved (and helped me find!) my new best friend.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (LDAR) was recommended to me by a trusted area groomer. She suggested I…read moreapply online before the adoption event, and I'm glad I started the process before arriving so that I was pre-registered, so to speak. The event was well attended so I recommend arriving early and checking in with a volunteer (green tent) so you get instructions for navigating, selecting, and adopting. You want to be first on the list to adopt your dream pet. Due to the great turnout, and the number of foster parents there with the dogs, I couldn't find the dog I originally arrived to adopt. Keep an eye on the LDAR website for the most up to date list of dogs and cats. I found out the day before the event that another wonderful pup had be transferred to VA, and so I inquired about him as soon as I arrived, which gave me priority. The whole adoption process took about four (4) hours - about half of that was due to shopping for my new bestie. The lines can get extremely long during adoption events because the store is open to the public and a hundred or so adoption guests the day I visited. There was a small wait (30 minutes) to have my application reviewed, and for the pre-interview. Then about 30 minutes before I found out I was approved to adopt the puppy. There's another wait to go through adoption counseling (30 minutes - where you should shop for appropriate items such as a martingale collar, leash, name tag) and the counseling took about 30 minutes (I had questions). The process was seamless and LDAR has been great about following up with me since the adoption. I also received a number of online resources that helped me acclimate my new little guy, and house train him within a week! The volunteers are transparent about the fine print, so it's important to know what you are responsible for. LDAR, thus you, might not have all the details on the pet's health and temperament. No take backs! With that said, an adopter will be on the hook for vet bills to ensure the safety of the animal. After our first vet visit, a few days after adoption, I did learn that my pup had a few things we needed to take care of, but this comes with pet ownership. I would recommend LDAR to anyone who is looking to adopt a pet. Visit an event and ask questions to see what it's like.
