My therapist here is excellent and I have received great care from him. I started seeing him at a different practice and when he changed jobs, I followed him here. 5 stars for him, but this review is for the practice itself. The administrative side is a nightmare and their policies and procedures make no sense; they don't seem to understand insurance requirements at all. There were issues from the start, small stuff at first, like they cancelled an appointment and didn't tell me until I arrived at the office. I won't list everything, but I was willing to overlook it because I was receiving good care. Then I got a call from Equilibrium asking for an updated referral from my doctor. I have never experienced this with other practices, which use the existing referral for as long as necessary, but I was fine with getting a new one if necessary. I had some questions, specifically what information I should get updated since the expiration date on my existing referral was not for several months, so I was transferred to the office manager. She was immediately hostile and threatening. She threatened to cancel all my appointments unless I sent them a new referral literally the same day they made the request. She wouldn't budge despite the fact that my insurance had never denied coverage, and despite the fact that I was more than happy to pay out of pocket if necessary and told her this repeatedly. She claimed they previously left a message, which they didn't, but outright refused to tell me the time is was allegedly left. Questions were met with her complaining about having to be on the phone with me and threatening to terminate the conversation. I see a LOT of healthcare providers and while administrative hiccups are common, I have never been treated with the level of rudeness and lack of basic courtesy I encountered here. After posting a similar review on another platform, I received a call from Equilibrium within minutes. Rather than addressing any of my concerns, they told me that unless I deleted the review they would refuse to see me again. OK bye! I guess that explains their high rating -- they squash any criticism by refusing service. read more

This is an exceptional place for physical therapy. Everyone is very caring and very effective. My orthopedist can't believe how well I am doing in such a short period of time. I like the fact that it is individualized attention and the therapists don't flit from person to person. They are with you the whole time. The front desk is accommodating and helpful. The space is pleasant and you do not feel like you are on an assembly line. The therapists spend a full 45 min with you. This is my favorite place for PT and I have been to many over the years. read more

I have been working with Mikayla at Equilibrium for about 3 months now. After sustaining a traumatic ankle fracture it was hard for me to believe I would ever walk again, much less get back to my regular activities. In the early parts of my recovery Mikayla was a huge source of positivity and encouragement for me. She filled me with hope that I would be functional again. I had suffered from BPPV (a form of vertigo) for 2 months before making my way over to Dr. Matthew Rome at Equilibrium. I found him on Google and that was a godsend. Up until then I had managed by avoiding as best I could activities that triggered my vertigo (a room-spinning sensation). I was able to stop the spinning fairly quickly (within a minute or 2) by changing my head position. And if I ever couldn't stop the spinning, I had medicine (Meclizine) at the ready. Yet, I felt far from well or normal, for the spinning was triggered several times daily anyway: when lying down, bending over, tilting my head back to look up, turning my head too quickly, etc. And there were bad days too, when my head felt very heavy/woozy, and I moved about in slow-motion, or in which my balance was off enough that I'd need to walk with my legs spread wide (drunken-like) for stability and safety. At Matt's clean, bright office, he gave me the BPPV lowdown, went about his work to find the inner ear canals involved and then performed the vestibular therapy of head-positioning treatments. He confirmed more fully my BPPV diagnosis, which it turned out involved inner canals in BOTH ears. Matt communicated & listened very well. He was just the right mix of sensitive to my condition on any given day, yet, like a good trainer, still encouraged me to try to take the extra step up for my own benefit. It was rough at the beginning when I was in my worst shape, moving my head this way and that, but I steadily improved in the course of my treatment (5 visits across several weeks). Today, a month since our last session, I don't have the spnning, I move normally, and I don't avoid activities. After our first session, me (and my crystals ;) were quite shaken up, and it gave me pause to sit in the waiting room with a new unease. But Matt had said I should recover in 30-45 minutes, and very possibly feel better as the day progresses. He was spot on. Each day I did feel better, and the recovery time I needed at our last session was nill. Matt's a delightful individual, as well, with very good bedside manner. I felt very safe in his care, trust him, and will return to him if I have a recurrence in the future. read more

a week ago I was seen by therapist Matthew Rome, for vestibular issues. after comprehensive questioning , he put the video googled on my eyes and stated that he would like to check my eyes. then without any warning he started shaking my head for 30 seconds, and despite me protesting it - continued. I got a very positive referral to Matt Rome by two people who went with him to Duke Med School, where he graduated summa cum laude. I figured he must be pretty capable if his fellow students admired and recommended him. I was not disappointed. I went to Matt to strengthen my ankle after I had torn a ligament there, and I've been seeing him for the past 2 months. I always felt that I was getting advice from someone who cared deeply about his patients and his work. Matt is very patient and takes the time to explain your condition and how the exercises he recommends will help. At every visit, Matt modified the session based on how my ankle was doing. I've been going to Equilibrium since it opened several years ago, had been going to another Physical Therapist before then. The physical therapists there give more focused and individualized therapy to patients, more than any other PT facility I've been to before. They are extremely accommodating to fit patients schedules and have state of the art training equipment. My favorite piece of equipment is the Anti Gravity treadmill. It helped get back to running at a gradual pace by using state of the art technology to reduce body weight while learning how to run again. I just completed a 2 month post-op rehab for my hip surgery (removal of bone spurs and hip resurfacing) at Equilibrium. This is the easiest 5 star review I could ever write. What a fantastic experience. I worked with Steven Lavender and he was AMAZING. He has more working knowledge of human physiology than anyone I've ever known. He's also the nicest and funniest dude you'll ever meet. I went in for rehab, and left with SOOO much more. He took the time to literally rebuild my posture and my walk from scratch. I'll be able to take what he taught me and be able to use it for the rest of my life. I've been told by doctors for the past five years that eventually I would need a hip replacement, and I just accepted that as fact. Steven showed me that that was totally untrue, and that by correcting my posture, there's a good chance I'll never need to have that surgery. The facilities are very well kept, clean etc, and the overall vibe in the place is warm, friendly, and family like. The entire staff at Equilibrium is top notch. I had knee surgery and have been seeing Matt for about six weeks now. I originally went in for a meniscus tear but ended up having work done to address right knee plica syndrome, chondromalacia of the patella and patella femoral maltracking syndrome. Matt helped me catch an early onset case of cellulitis. It was my first time having surgery so I wouldn't have known how to recognize an oncoming infection. The surgery addressed a few issues and Matt has done a great job at addressing all the areas that need work. From stretching to improving mobility to plyometrics work, Matt always knows how far to push. Amir is also great and has been very knowledgeable with the Alter-G machine to help me get back to running. Equilibrium's therapists are all incredibly intelligent and are always sharing the reasoning of what they are doing and why they are doing it. They know the right questions to ask which is great for newer patients who might not know what information to volunteer. The facilities themselves are clean, very modern and I genuinely enjoy my time there. An hour literally flies by in the blink of an eye. I have recommended Matt's practice to a few people and would be happy to continue doing so. read more

I came to Equilibrium Physical Therapy as a patient suffering from undiagnosed vertigo. After spending 24 hours in the hospital with no confirmed diagnosis upon discharge, I was told to follow up with a vestibular physical therapist. I found Equilibrium PT from a google search and was very pleased with my entire experience. The receptionist was able to help me schedule an appointment with Matthew Rome, the owner and vestibular therapist on site within one week's time. Matthew was an exceptional therapist, from his ability to listen to my story and decipher what was potentially wrong to his ability to explain things in a manner that was easy to understand. Having vertigo makes one very anxious, and he is skilled and knowledgeable in a way that makes you feel at ease and comfortable in his hands. Might I add there was no wait time, he saw me for the full hour despite my being the last patient of the day, and the room I was in was clean and private. I truly felt I had his undivided attention which is rare in the PT world. After a battery of tests including using vestibular goggles to diagnose my issue, Matthew was able to determine exactly what was wrong with me and give me a treatment plan I felt confident in. He assured me that I would eventually return to normal and made me so confident in his diagnosis that I did not follow up with an MD. I've never felt compelled to write a negative review for a healthcare-related business, but I've never had as awful of an experience as I did at Equilibrium Physical Therapy. For a business that ostensibly exists to help heal people who are in pain, I have to say that I did not feel well cared for either with the administration of my account or with the physical therapist. As far as my account, they overcharged my credit card on file and did not get my insurance pre-approved in time for my appointment, although they said that they would handle it. For whatever it's worth, I rarely saw any other patients at Equilibrium, even though I was there at what should have been peak times. They have a long list of therapists listed on their website, two large studios and multiple treatment rooms, but the place was almost always empty. It never seemed like the thriving business that the handful of positive reviews here would have you believe it is, and that should have been a red flag to me from the beginning. Lesson learned. When my treatment ended here, I was still in physical pain. I wish I had not wasted my money and time here. In the future, I'll ask friends for personal recommendations for any healthcare-related providers. read more

I had a serious neck surgery recently and was worried about starting physical therapy, knowing how fragile my body and my neck were. I started going to Equilibrium after being referred by my doctor to Steve Lavender . I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Steve is one of the few PT's that have an expertise in addressing the challenges specific to my condition. I'm very happy with the level of care that I've been receiving. Initially, Steve was in constant contact with my doctor so he can coordinate my treatment and needs. Before we even started treatment he spent a great deal of time inquiring about my needs and expectations. To my surprise, he then told me what his expectations were and they far exceeded mine! I have been seeing him for a couple of months now and I am thus far quite satisfied. No miracles here (MS is an incurable disease) but my level of care is superb. I broke my ankle in November 2016 and, after many weeks of immobilization, I needed physical therapy. Just by luck I found Equilibrium, and I am so glad I did! My regular weekly appointments with Samantha Savit were extremely helpful and rewarding; when I arrived in January I could barely walk, but by the time of my last visit in May I was literally "back on my feet." The facility is clean, bright, and state-of-the-art equipped. Visits are luxuriously long at 45 minutes, compared to some places that hustle you out in a half-hour. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. They all worked very hard at getting me the maximum number of visits from my insurance company to make sure that I would recover and regain my mobility. Samantha is a true professional; she is thoughtful, diligent, charming, kind, and just really good at what she does. She is the real deal! I am convinced that I would still be hobbling through the streets of Manhattan without her attentive and expert care. I have seen Matt Rome for a couple different knee injuries over the years. He has been incredibly adept at both guiding me through a full ACL rehabilitation and also utilizing various treatment methods depending on my condition at a particular time. He is very knowledgeable about identifying the causes of certain types of pain, discomfort, stiffness, etc. and treating it appropriately. Great practice...I've been through PT a number of times for a variety of injuries and I like Equalibrium's operating philosophy better than the others. In the past, I was used to seeing my therapist for stim or heat and only ten minutes of stretching or manipulating the effected area; then I was sent into a gym with trainers who were working with multiple patients at one time. At Equlibrium your 45 minute session is exclusively with your therapist who provides active, focused hands-on treatment that really addresses your particular issue and is supplemented by a program of well outlined "homework" to reinforce what was accomplished during the session. Garry is by far the best physical therapist I have been to. He was kind, easy going, professional, knowledgeable and overall, a true pleasure to work with. When I came in I was just recovering from bunion surgery and was in constant pain. Garry did a thorough assessment of me and focused on how I already moved to see where I needed to go. Through stretching and strengthening the muscles needed to reduce compensation and the resulting pain and strains resulting from this, Garry was able to get me back to doing all the things I love most like weight lifting, yoga, and wearing high heels. All sessions were one on one and he explained everything we were doing in a thorough and easily comprehensible manner. He also gave me the skills and tools to continue working on things at home to push myself even further. Additionally, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. By the time I left Equilibrium Fitness I felt as good as new and am now back at the gym full time feeling stronger than ever! read more

I have found the fountain of youth! I have been seeing Physical Therapist, Gabriel Ettenson, for over a year for lower back pain and rheumatoid arthritis. I found him to be a knowledgable therapist with up to date information and innovative techniques. This September, he opened Amplitude Vibration Studio in conjuction with Equilibrium Physical Therapy. Whole body vibration is an amazing way to get a core work out, no matter what your level of conditioning, and it provides other positive health effects such as increased bone density. He also offers services such as the Alter G anti gravity tread mill, that allows those of us with bad knees or feet or backs to run like gazelles. Suspension apparatus, active stretching, massage, accupunture, yoga, pilates, they have it all. Meditation classes are offered in the evenings. There is no way that I can find enough good things to say about Matt Rome and the Equilibrium practice as a whole. I had an injury about 5 months ago that has caused me to need to go to therapy about 3 times a week, which I am still attending. I was confused on how to find a good therapist in the area, but then I came across Matt Rome's info. From the very first moment I called, they were extremely receptive and flexible in finding the times for me to come in. Matt has made me feel totally comfortable and confident in my healing process. He is always completely focused on me the entire time we have set aside, and goes way beyond the normal treatments with the help of the therapist assistant, Corey ( who is awesome as well!). They seem to forward thinking and have equipment such as the Anti gravity treadmill, which allowed me to start to walk earlier than I would have been able to on a normal treadmill. I also love that they use the help of technology by emailing me videos of all of my weekly exercises that I need to do! He is always available via email, and responds quickly to any questions that I have when I am not able to see him! They are always flexible in times if I need to shift things around due to work and I have been able to see the other physical therapist in the office when Matt is away ( who are also absolutely wonderful!) All in all.... I don't think I could have found a better physical therapist or practice than Matt Rome and Equilibrium. They have truly been there every step of my recovery and I feel that they really are passionate in what they do for a living. You can tell that every single person there truly cares about their patients and their recovery! I would 100% recommend them to any one I know for their therapy needs! read more

Matt went above and beyond to explain the therapy, its benefits, and how I could best apply it to my situation.
