I will start by saying the massages are very good. The price had been $45 per hour and is now $50 per hour. Still a fantastic price. A great value. HOWEVER almost every time I pay (in cash) & choose to leave a 20% tip (or more!) which I believe is standard, I not only don't get a thank you - I get an icy stare. IMO if the management wants more money then consider raising the price. Don't harangue the customers for another 10% in tips. It's a real turnoff. I've experienced this before but today was the worst in rude. read more

I walked in mid day on a Friday without an appointment and they happily greeted me and had space. I chose the sport massage (which was very much like a deep tissue massage) for 1 hour which was $45. This place is no frills but they sure know how to massage. They had relaxing music playing, but you can occasionally hear noise from outside (I did not mind though). Alice was my masseuse and she was great! She asked how much pressure I prefer and which areas I wanted to focus on and then spent 50% of the time on those areas. Embarrassment of riches, I say. I already have two amazing massage places (Sang Yuan and Ocean Spa) that I love a few blocks away. I wanted to try this one since it is even closer to my place. Happy I tried. Excellent, very competent deep massage. She identified my kinks and problems areas very quickly and focused on them. I will be happy to go back. Just a word of caution: it can get noisy because it is right by the M15 stop and so you hear buses stopping and going. In addition, these people cannot control what happens on the floor above them. There was a carpenter or some work person making a lot of noise. They find your knots and work them relentlessly with true vigor. My posture wanes from time to time due to desk work and being top heavy and my shoulders and upper back get so tight. After they finish with your back they honor the promise of full body and work on you arms, hands, legs, and feet. I had Nancy and she will be my forever go-to bodywork attendant. So, so good. Great massage! I have not had a massage since pre corona days, and was in dire need of a very strong massage. I used to live in South East Asia, so my ideal massage is not the relaxing soft Swedish one where you fall asleep, but rather a very strong massage where the masseuse gets rid of my rock hard knots within my shoulder and neck region. I was in so much pain and felt absolutely tired with all these painful knots bothering me since lockdown started, and especially working on my laptop all day. Alas, yesterday got a very strong 2 hour massage from Nancy. I feel so much better today, and got a very good night's sleep. Do not come here because you want to wear a eucalyptus-scented robe and sip champagne with your girlfriends while a muscle-bound manolantern in gold spandex fans you with peacock feathers. No, no, this is not that kind of place. Come here because you want someone to knead the sh*t out of your back. For serious, these girls look unassuming, but they have superhuman strength and they will get out every.last.knot you may have. I came here after the marathon (two days after!), hoping someone could put me back together again, and by golly these girls did just that. Take note, this is not a gentle massage. This is DEEP stuff. I admit, I winced a few times, but I now know that it was for the greater good because I feel fantastic. It is barebones, with curtains separating the massage beds. But there is nice dim lighting and soft music playing to lull you to your happy place. Also, they are very back-focused, but these girls aim to please and will target areas in need of attention if you let them know. And yes, $55 for an hour is a bargain ($30 for a half hour). I spent a considerable amount of time searching for a good massage place that would be worth my hard-earned money, and all these fancy spa places charge at least double that (but you're paying for decor and manolanterns, and who needs that?). Though they did take me immediately and were ever so slightly cheaper than what I've seen at Graceful Services and the like ($55/hour) I was so aching for a massage that I spent the first thirty minutes wondering whether I should tell the tiny asian woman jabbing her elbows into my shoulder blades that I was sure she was my soulmate . I even extended my massage a half hour further, during which even my attention starved big toes got some love. However, after a night of sleeping on it and a day back at the office, I have to say that I don't really feel much better or less tight, but just ever so slightly bruised. So while it was definitely good for chilling out a little bit, the massage at Fu Yin wasn't the best I've ever had. read more

Update: Sadly this place has gone down... As I became regular and they started to notice your face, the service is getting worse and worse. When I called to make a reservation with my regular masseuse, they said she is available but when I actually visit, she was not available but more over she has gone back to China. Although massage was ok, she often talked with other person on the side while giving me a massage, often left to assist(?) others and come back. Alright alright... i guess not a big deal. Here is the kicker. She asks me if I want more time. I had a big run the other day so i said yes please give me 15 more minutes on both of my legs only. She started to give massage on my left leg... and kept on working on my left leg only for 15m! Then, she asked me if I want another 15m on my right leg.... hm.......... i politely said no... So i guess i felt that they want more and more of my money more so than the quality of the service? because i was a regular? because they assumed i would extend more time? because they didn't understand me? i clearly pointed out that i want BOTH legs.... The place is unassuming, and in my opinion, a hidden gem. It's located on the east side of 1st Avenue, between 87th & 88th Sts. I've been massaged by 3 different workers over the years and I can say that the massages have been consistently excellent. When you find a good thing, you stick with it. I gave a few friends gift certificates for hour massages for Christmas a few years back, and 2 of them have turned into regular customers, 1 of which actually comes from the UWS about once a month -I think that says a lot. The space is kept clean and tidy, and the workers are always nice and welcoming. This place deserves all the success it gets. Lastly regarding the price... It is very hard to beat. I have been going here since it opened almost 5 years ago. As others have mentioned, don't expect waterfalls and plush rooms- but I have yet to get a really good massage at any of those places. I was amazed at how deep and therapeutic the massages were here. I literally walk out devoid of any stress and tension every single time I visit. And it lasts because these women know what to do and how to do it. So many issues with knots, aches and soreness I have not had since I began massage therapy here. 30 minutes will get you one side of your back. I'm not kidding. That is what I was told. I've been to a lot of Qi Gong places and this is the first time I am hearing this. Ridiculousness! I can handle a lackluster massage, but cheating, I hate. I had a little time to kill so I figured I'd get a quick massage. It started out ok, but then she was stuck on my neck. That is not my problem area so I was wondering what she was doing. I almost told her to move on. I wish I had, but I didn't want to be obnoxious. It was like she zoned out. Now I know she was killing time. After spending a long time on my neck, she started working my left side. Right when she moved to my right side, the alarm went off. Then she whispers, add 15 minutes and I can finish the right side. Unbelievable. When I went to pay, I asked her why she only worked my left side and not my right, but she didn't answer, just stood there acting confused. Then the woman at the front jumps in and says to me, not enough time... 30 minutes only one side. I almost laughed out loud. What's amazing is when I walked in she had already explained to me that one hour is full body massage and 30 minutes is back only or feet only. Some places have tried to upsell me before, but I have never come across such blatant dishonesty. When I asked her her name, she said ahhhhhh, Amy. She actually ahhhhh-ed so I'm guessing it is not her real name. Anyway, I see this place gets good reviews here on yelp so maybe I got unlucky.
