I normally hate working out in gyms and do everything I can to avoid it from past bad experiences. But when injury recovery required more PT equipment than what I had at home, I tried a bunch of gyms in town and decided to go with Equinox. I am so glad I did because I haven't missed a single day of rehab/working out. The staff is professional, friendly, and responsive. The facility is impeccably clean, the shower area is well stocked. The trainers and group class teachers are knowledgeable and positive; I love observing the trainers work with clients from my cardio machine to learn new techniques because they do a lot of functional movement work. The clientele is serious about working out and getting on with their day and everyone is respectful. I can't tell you how many times fellow members have asked me if they were in my way on the floor... as a petite Asian female, this is not my normal gym experience and it bring tears to my eyes! Best of all, no creepy encounters and I feel safe. It's also not a bodybuilder type gym so I feel like I belong just as much as anyone else. Mask policy strictly enforced. Not cheap, but I've not yet come across a broken equipment, it's never crowded (I joined 2/2020) and if you're someone who loves taking barre, spin, yoga, and other group fitness classes, it ends up being more economical. I do all my PT exercise then reward myself with a fun class afterwards. On top of all this, you get access to high quality virtual classes with the Variis app included in the membership. If you add all these elements together, it ends up being fantastic value. So I gave up fancy coffee drinks to offset my membership dues... another unexpected win! I'm officially off coffee, I never thought I would pull that one off. Ironically I may come out of COVID 2020 healthier than any other year, thanks Equinox. read more

Straight up. I never write reviews. Also, I am not super hardcore when it comes to working out. I like to work out but I am mega busy (who isn't?) I need my gym to multitask. I want a gym that both has awesome classes and great amenities. Austin has not had a place that can do both until Equinox opened up. I had a membership at Equinox when I lived in SF briefly. Then switched to Sports Club LA (which was even more expensive) because I was looking for a gym that was both relaxing and had great classes. At the time Equinox was not quite what it is today. Since moving back home to Austin I have jumped around to all the gyms (you name it, I tried it). I have found my home again at Equinox. I am a nurse so I don't make a ton of money. This is my splurge. But compared to taking individual classes at different spots around town. It is a steal. I work out before I go to night shifts. Sometimes a class, sometimes just a 30 min run. Then I TAKE MY TIME GETTING READY for a super stressful job. I shower with all the nice products, take a 10 min steam, then I head over to the individual stations for doing my hair and makeup (these are a dream!). I feel great as I head to work. I am calm and relaxed which I don't get much of over the next 12 hours. It motivates me to come back because I feel so good! My needs are different from other people's obvi. Let's get this over with: yes, Equinox is expensive. Memberships start around $150 a month and yes, everyone wears Lululemon and AirPods. Ok great, now that we've addressed that, is it worth the $150? If you like classes, it's definitely worth the price. These aren't your typical gym classes - these are on par with Soul Cycle and Orangetheory. You could definitely save money paying for Equinox, plus you get a diversity of classes rather than having a membership at one studio. If free weights are your jam, Equinox might disappoint, the equipment is nice for sure, but the weight area is small given the gym's downtown location. read more

I have been in Austin for five years trying out different studios. Before I moved to Austin, we had a family membership at a high end/platinum Lifetime club in another state for probably 10 years. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of individual studios in Austin but many/most focus on a singular discipline e.g. lifting, running, spin, yoga, Pilates, cross fit, etc. Other than the far north and far south Lifetime family fitness locations, there really aren;t many options for an all in one location spot. The newly renovated Pure, now a Lifetime Club downtown doesn't fill that niche. I have tried many spots--Mecca, Orange Theory, The Lab (now closed), outdoor fitness group options, Black Swan and other yoga studios, Bar 3,Love Spin, etc, I had been looking for a single location where I could find cardio equipment, free weights, cardio/core/strength classes, spin, yoga, running classes, kettle bell classes, etc . I was also looking for periodic access to trainers and a great locker room environment to get ready for work. Equinox is that--well designed and well maintained and clean, good variety, good coaches. I agree with other reviewers on the parking/location. I like the facility. I do not like the location--ingress and egress is very challenging. Parking is challenging to get in. It is difficult to find a spot before/after work. I do not drive unless I have to--I will opt to run, walk, scooter, Uber whenever possible --the parking lot is that difficult. The parking validation is a wasteful use of paper and person efforts with the scanning. On the personnel end--my sales person was Theo and he did a good job. I had my fitness session eval with Jackie--she was thorough, pleasant, and helpful. I had a Pilates session with Emily and she was great at providing an orientation to the benefits of that approach. I have taken about 15 classes since.I joined and have found the coaches to be positive, energetic and knowledgeable. For my style of workouts and schedules, this is a good solution and I am getting value for my membership. The only downside I can articulate is the parking/location. And if you can avoid driving, that can essentially be solved. I am a satisfied member. The benefits of the wide variety and good physical space and talented coaches far out weights the parking mess. read more

It's pricey but if you enjoy classes it's worth it. Everything is really clean. Everyone is very fit which is motivating. Juice bar is great! Trainers are really nice. Eric who runs the classes is always there and always trying to get to know everyone. If you spin, take Hans. He's fabulous and has an amazing playlist. Cons: No AC in the spin room.. it's incredibly hot. I had to double check to make sure I didn't sign up for a heated cycle class. I hope this gets fixed by the summer or people are going to pass out. Equinox is immaculate and offers a variety of great classes with great instructors. It's not crowded and I've never had an issue finding a parking spot in the garage. I suspect that anyone writing a negative review of this place either has an agenda or is a professional asshole. So far so good. I'm actually amazed at some of the reviews written below me, as my experience has been 100% positive. My guess is the gym has a valet for convenience, not because the parking situation is bad. It's a parking garage, you need a ticket. Big deal. I think that must be written by someone who hasn't ever lived in a city bigger than San Marcos. The classes are high quality, and I've enjoyed every one so far. They do fill up, so you have to get there early. Fluffy? Not even close in my experience. The ones I've taken have kicked my ass royally, particularly the infrared yoga class. And yeah the training isn't cheap, neither is the gym membership. It's also not outrageously expensive. Jose is amazing. He texts me to remind me of my appointments one day beforehand, every time. Extremely supportive and he pushes me past where I'd probably push myself. The training is more expensive because of the facility (of course) but also because of the level of training they have. Jose is a 2 on a scale out of 5, with 5 being the most advanced. He has a degree in Kinesiology. He's always spouting off stuff about the way the muscles work together, and why it's important to do things this way or that. I don't remember a word of it, but it gives me a great workout. Lastly, I've never experienced the gym crushed full of people. The classes do try to fit as many in as possible, but on the weight floor we have never had to wait for a machine, or struggled to find one. I like the gym fine. It's convenient, well cared for, and the staff has been nothing but kind. If that changes, I'll definitely update my review, but thus far, A+. read more

I was hesitant to join Equinox after I moved to Austin in December of 2021 but decided I would at least go on a tour. When I scheduled my tour, I got immediate feedback about parking and any questions I had prior to my appointment from their highly qualified sales staff. When I arrived, I was greated by Haley. Haley was very professional in her sales approach. She gave me time to ask questions, tour the facilities, talk about pricing, and ultimately just got to know me as a person. This approach did not make me feel like another number and contributed to my decision to join the gym. The staff at Equinox Austin works really hard to improve the customer experience and make their members feel welcome and at home. There are five things that contribute to my equinox experience 1) the equipment (specifically woodway treadmills, platforms, and kettlebells) 2) the outdoor workout patio and glass windows with greatviews of the capitol/downtown 3) the steamroom 4) the friendly staff 5) the cleanliness The parking and validation is super easy to work with and the location off south congress is great with many stores and restaraunts you can access before/after your workout. Overall I am 2 months into members and have 0 complaints. I intend on being at this equinox indefinately. read more

I asked how much it is a month and they wouldn't give a straight answer and just kept insisting you come to the gym to check it out. Pass. They wouldn't stop texting me. Well, it is definitely clean, the yoga was good and the amenities were good, but I was very uncomfortable upon my second return. They seemed to have trouble finding my name on the pass when I entered and being stared at by about literally seven staff just hanging out at the front desk was even more uncomfortable. Then, after they finally found my name after I told them that I wasn't going back to the car to get my cell for proof, some guy yells and asks if I signed in as I go up the stairs. No one vouched to say that I was a cleared guest and as I questioned the guy who stopped me, he and another lady had some bogus reason for asking me that question. I stayed at the SoHo House which told me they have a deal with them where you can workout there. I worked out there the first day and it was great. A trainer even helped give me some pointers just out of being nice. Then the second day I went and the woman at the front desk was so rude. She told me that SoHo House is taking advantage of the situation and they can only have guests workout once. She wouldn't let me workout and told me to tell SoHo and it's only one time. Here I am a potential customer and advocate of equinox and she is making their SoHo relationship and issue of mine. She told me she could talk to her manager but "he just walked out." Not attempt to try and solve the issue. Put it on me as the guest. Very rude. This gym will never get my business. read more

Super nice, brand new facilities. Not too crowded even during normal busy hours. However, this HAS to be the hardest Equinox of all time to find. I was dropped off in an Uber outside of an apartment complex and wandered around for 20 minutes until I creepily followed some people in high end athleisure up into a corner of a parking garage in the back of the apartment complex? Manager Frank Carmona has been incommunicado on the fact that the men's steam room has been closed for weeks. Most Equinox clubs will post info about why and when it will reopen (e.g. repair, remodel, etc). The GM here has not returned multiple emails on the topic from myself and other members. Most members pay over $200 a month. The Winter time is when we want this amenity the most. read more

Reason for 3 versus two stars are the group fitness instructors who are great in Austin as most all are everywhere. I go to equinox all over Manhattan, Miami and also in San Francisco. Some are better than others but Austin so far is the low bar. They ran out of water for sale, the water fountain outside the group fitness room was totally non functional. Smoothie/juice bar not operating. Women's locker is the worst - showers don't drain properly, yucky caulking in disrepair, no shaving cream to be found, used towels piled up in the floor near showers. Eucalyptus spray bottle in steam room is broken. In NYC the cleaning staff is present and working practically to the point of it being annoying (until you remember it's a GOOD problem to have). Some other reviews referred to the management at this location - you guys have some issues to address. This is not a good reflection of the Equinox brand. read more

You pay a $300 initiation fee and $195 a month for a normal gym. You can't book a class even 25 hours in advance. There is ZERO value for the money. Whatever you do, don't believe the sales guy's little gimmick script, you won't be able to get a class and it is not the cleaning they brag about at all. Do yourself a favor and stick to studios. This place is a complete gimmick to get your money and you get nothing for it. read more

My locker was broken into. Lost the $500 and five credit cards. I was able to report loss to my bank before they stole any more. Reported it but nothing was done. New manager has failed to return my calls. It has been at least two weeks and nothing. Not interested in continuing membership. Strongly suspect that it was a member that did this. read more

Please understand that I am just trying to survive. I hate to write a bad review but I feel betrayed by the way I was treated in the beginning to the way I am treated now. Learn from my lessons. I have had enough of this. Dealing with equinox has been the worst service I have ever experienced. I joined early in June of 2019 before the gym opened in November. Back then I was able to afford my membership easily but then in November I had to quote my second job. At that point I couldn't afford the membership so I tried contacting an advisor and informing them of my situation to cancel it. I couldn't because I was told I signed a contract for a full year. Fair enough, I signed a contract. Then I was told through the phone that I could freeze my membership from Feb-May and pay $30 a month during that freeze to help me out. So I agree and freeze my account. Now I find out I am still getting charged the same rate for the year and I won't see the benefits of the freeze until after the 12month contract period. I was unaware of this so when I checked my bank account this month I had nothing because I didn't plan this charge in my expenses. I am living paycheck to paycheck until I am able to find a second job. So why keep me locked in and charging me when I have enough to survive? Again, I understand I signed a contract but why would a circumstance like this not be included the policy. Life happens. I have felt no sense of humanity from the people I have talked to so far. If you are joining or getting any issues resolved from equinox, make sure it is done through email or print so you have definitive proof of what they have said. Also, trying to have someone respond or reach out takes days or weeks. Writing mail the old fashion way is faster. Aside this, the gym is very aesthetically pleasing. The bathrooms are amazing and the showers feel heavenly. It's small in size compared to other gyms and the instructors and group classes are what would make it worth it. The views of Austin are gorgeous and it's location next to Zilker park make it easy to go for a run and then come to the gym to stretch and shower. read more

Customer service is horrible and the lack of parking as well as the parking restrictions imposed by the club are inexcusable considering the cost of a membership. I was a member for many years in Houston but my experiences at this ATX facility have been a huge disappointment. I have been to many Equinox and while this would appear somewhat nice in regards to aesthetic - it is extremely overcrowded since it's way too small. It appears they only care about getting as many members part of the gym to offset costs. I could bare that but many people I know asked before they opened for LATE classes to be offered since this is a town of people that works long days. There are NO spin / bike classes late (aside from ONE on Wednesday) and I hope this will be updated to accommodate all of the people I know I recommended to join. It would be appreciated to have spin classes between 7pm - 8pm and they are only offering yoga for the most part later around these hours but even those are limited. Also it would be nice to have the 3 pilaties machines available for 1 class a day since they have closed it off for overcharged individual training sessions when you could just go to TLS Lagree Studio up the street for awesome classes and it would be great to see what Equinox offers with the instructors. They are only offering and plan to only offer a pilaties on the floor classes which is a cop out and nothing like the machines so this is an extreme disappointment. They offer a steam room but never put in a sauna? Regardless of space this was a step down to not have both in my opinion. The juice station is wayyyy too small and they are just about have nothing to offer! Beverly Hills and West Hollywood and BRENTWOOD all have more items of food you could purchase, chefs on site and are much larger to encourage people sitting and spending time in them as well as meeting other members. Whom ever designed this chose to give A LOT of room for managers to have large offices under the stairs when honestly it would have been a better (and smarter may I add) customer experience if they made those all a nice place to eat, mingle and would add energy to the entrance area. Do managers really need individual larger offices and instead take away as much room as possible for members/customers to enjoy a nice space? It could have made sense to move the store around elsewhere and used that space instead for a more open area for people to enjoy more food then a smoothie where the baristas seem to appear to not know what they are doing and take a extremely long time to make simple drinks so the line is long and you have to keep moving around since they places it under the stairs in a crammed area and stuck a small fridge with barely anything in it except yogurt. How about vegan foods, prepped meals, wraps, snap kitchen meals, and freshly made salads on site behind the bar?? I'm honestly confused. They gym seems to cater to men who like to lift heavy weights at least a that is the normal flow of who takes up most of the floors and machines. There is nothing wrong with that but don't you want to put items in there to keep your customers fed, happy and enjoying their experiences? Many of the employees didn't know where things were, explained they dont do things and were nice seeming but too many standing around not doing anything. Parking is a disaster. Their machine was not working and they offered valet but the valet pointed for me to go to parking and I cane back since there were none and they told me to go back and park in parking since there should be enough there. In conclusion I feel that they really should be offering more late classes, more options of classes for people that get off work at 6pm which is most of this city (learn your demographics!). It would be nice to have classes ending at 9:30 or 10pm but I know that probably is too much to ask for. I wish they would reconfigure the 1st floor so it is more CUSTOMER friendly and not manger and sales rep friendly which honestly all you experience is the greeters pushing you upstairs to "please be out of the way as there is much more room upstairs". If all you care about here is sales reps and managers having all the space then why did you make a gym? Putting. Two little areas for people to actually sit on each floor by the elevator with two chairs is really a smart way to get people to enjoy their experience and sit and have a place to drink their smoothie or speak with a friend?? NOT! Please update the flow/esthetic/and attention to your customers/members so they feel valued and have a place to enjoy their workout time and a little down time in between. You have the power and opportunity to make these changes now and so far many members I have spoken with all agree this should be a priority of you value us and care about the long term goals of keeping your members as we all want to enjoy Equinox Austin so please help us to do so. read more

First of all, I absolutely hate gyms and did not expect to like this one, but gave it a shot because my partner wanted to join. Three months after joining, I love working out here and actually look forward to going which I never thought would be possible considering and I not one of "those" gym people who typically enjoys working out. The facilities are always clean, staff is super friendly and the classes are awesome. My only negative feedback is that the hand towel machines in the women's locker room are literally always broken... Not a huge deal, just seems odd. Parking can also be a bit of a pain at times, especially early in the day. Would be nice if they did away with the paper parking tickets and upgraded to something a bit more 2020, but again, not a big deal. All in all- love Equinox, despite a couple of little things. No place is perfect, but they do a great job and I enjoy being a member here. read more

I was spending double the membership fee Equinox charges monthly on memberships/separate classes elsewhere that did not even compare to the amenities this place has to offer. Got the stereotypical gym pressure sale and runaround. Talked to membership advisor over the phone and gave them credit card to try membership. They only told me after they charged my card and I specifically asked what the cancellation policy was that it is a 12 month agreement. After I pressed more, they told me there was a 30 days cancellation window - so you can cancel within 30 days and give 30 days notice. You still pay for two months no matter what. I decided to cancel because I don't feel comfortable going in the ongoing pandemic. My request to cancel was ignored, then passed up to a manager who said the cancellation policy was actually only five days. After more pressing on my end, they agreed to honor what the membership person told me (30 days) and let me cancel. At this time, I've been charged for the second month, but as soon as they put through the cancellation, my club access was cut off. I requested either a refund of the second month's payment or to regain club access for the month I paid for, which has still gone ignored. I wanted to like this club but will continue to take my money to local Austin business instead because of how typically shady the commutation was. read more

"A meat market, LOL" That's ridiculous, at the only other premium gym in Austin I was hit on by a woman wearing an ankle monitor and I really don't see that happening here. And that other place is as lame as the reverse jailbait incident sounds. The only thing I can say after two visits is that I would prefer classical music in the locker room, but, this seems to be a younger crowd, at least at this stage, so that's probably fine for the business overall but the minute that changes, bring on the quality control tunes!
