There is nothing that puts you into a Zen state like doing Matt Pilates. So off I went to LA Fitness - South Lamar as a part of my New Year's Eve fitness regiment. For those who may not be familiar with Matt Pilates, it is a low-impact, floor-based exercise using the equivalent of a Yoga matt. It focuses on core strength, posture, flexibility, and controlled breathing. Matt Pilates differs from Reformer Pilates, which uses spring-loaded machines aka as reformers. Matt Pilates relies on your body weight and gravity for resistance. Most big box gyms offers Matt pilates, whereas Reformer Pilates usually occur at Pilates studios or higher end gym locations. A Pilates Reformer can easily cost $200-$250+ per month. Many movie stars like Gwenth Paltrow and Dakota Johnson swear by Reformer Pilates. I have only done a trial membership with Reformer Pilates. Matt Pilates is very affordable and usually included in your gym membership, making it cost-effective. After my Matt Pilates class I was so Zen, I felt like taking a nap. As a disabled person who needs privacy to shower, it is frustrating seeing the disabled private bathroom constantly locked and not in service. Not sure why it is not in service... perhaps the staff doesn't want to deal with keeping it clean??? Also, machines have been "scheduled for service" for a while. No urgency to get repaired. For some, machines are the only way to get a workout in. You would think that by closing the William Canyon location the rest of the locations would improve but that's not the case. read more

I don't understand why equipment that has been broken for over 6 months isn't repaired. The same machine are ALWAYS broken. Mostly cable ones. Is there a supply shortage on cables that prevents these from being repaired? read more

Great local gym that's clean with good equipment. Very staff to top it off! Parking is easy and locker rooms are clean.

Machines are always broken. They are not fixing them for months. Maybe they are going out of business like the Slaughter location. By the way everyone comes from Slaughter now so too many people. read more

One of the worst LA's i've been to across the US. Been going here consistently for 3 months and half the machines have been and stayed broken. On top of this there is minimal equipment (1 true lat row, 1 leg press) so when these are broken there aren't great alternatives. read more

1/3 of the machines don't work, and will never be fixed. So if you would like to go to 2/3 of a gym it's a great option

I started going here when they opened, because I was tired of broken equipment not getting fixed at my old gym. Well, when there's no local control, there's no equipment getting fixed. The remodeling was a total dud, and the equipment that was replaced feels like an older model likely heavily discounted. I go here because it's convenient, I can usually watch HBO on the treadmill, and it serves my needs at a good price. read more

This is for the Anderson location. Dump. Pure and simple. Dump. Dirty, dingy, dinky. Went there on and off for a couple of years. Even the water fountain was broken. Look out in the jacuzzi, do they clean it? Sit in the chairs by the dumbbells and just dirty floor. Sad looking machines that have been there for ages. Try finding attachments. read more

Never thought I'd switch from LA fitness to literally any other gym. They renovated but still can't get clean restrooms nor honest sales people. Plumber is always "on the way", cleaners are always "aware of it" already. What a joke of a gym. Don't let the pretty new entrance fool you, management couldn't care less. They always do a little laugh and say "ahh we know, we know". Oh but there are always plenty of sales people, even on a Sunday when it's practically dead, they just sit on their desks looking around. Perhaps LA fitness should invest in better cleaners rather than a bunch of sales agents. If you're signing up for LA fitness for THE POOL, make sure you're aware you're going to be sharing it with a kids swim class most of the day. read more

I absolutely love this gym. As an avid gym goer I have tried a variety of gyms here in Austin and LA fitness has got to be one of my favorites. I love the open floor layout. The gym has a variety of cardio machines (elliptical, bikes, treadmills, stair master). It also has 5 squat racks and 3 benches. Can be a bit busy at peak times. There is a pool, racquetball courts. And a sauna. Overall rating 4/5. As the bathrooms can be cleaned. read more

The membership department is super rude and pushy. I've been a member here since moving to Austin and on the rare occasion I extend a 7 day pass to my boyfriend they borderline harass him to sign up. What is the point of a guest pass for friends/ family if that means we will have to wait 20 minutes to hear some rude man try and force an unwanted membership. Bathrooms and locker rooms definitely need a facelift. Not very many group classes which sucks because I did like their yoga awhile back. But the weights and cardio section is fine, gets the job done read more

Equipment broken, classes canceled all the time without online updates, poor cleanliness, there is no accoubility fr the employees and management. They will give people some promo deals, and pack the gym to the max not having the capacity, and equipment to handle the crowd. Ive been wirh them for 8 years, good bye! When there is a problem with the equipment, spa, swimming pool and talk with the people in charge they just say the manager does not care what the customers say or want. Even when there is a serious problem that may cause injury they say when we report to the manager he does not care. This at the club on Anderson lane in Austin. So moving to another club. read more

The showers were freezing cold. My boyfriend's apartment is right by this location but I wanted to shower at the gym because his hot water runs out pretty quick. This gym is such a piece of s*** it's so annoying that is occupying such prime real estate for a gym. The hot water has been out for 4-6 weeks with seemingly no attempt to fix it. When I asked about it today they said it's only cold "because of the cold weather" when it's been cold for less than 24 hours. Austin over the last 6 weeks has been around 60-80 degrees every day so it's clearly the water heater. Avoid this place. It's dirty, never cleaned, equipment goes unrepaired for months. And then once you finish working out in the terrible gym enjoy a freezing cold shower to finish it off. read more

Have tried to reserve a racquetball court online for the last 3 or 4 weeks and the site is down due to some error! When will the site be back online! This is important to us because two of the four racquetball courts have been close and converted for another function. We need to be able to reserve a court to be make sure we have a court to play at our normal days and times. read more

So this gym is usually very clean and most of the time doesn't smell like a sweat tank but they have been at this location for years and still they cannot figure out how to fix the showers in the men's room so that they work. They spent probably over $1 million on renovations but still can't fix the showers..... I literally had to call to speak to a manager (can't believe I had to be a Karen to get an answer) and ask why it is still not fixed after years..... the manager said no there is not a shortage of plumbers like the staff said but they were running into issues... why is it so hard to ensure that all showers have hot water.... We have prob over 40 plumbing companies in town and yet it takes them years to fix something that should have been fixed a long time ago. Like someone call Radient plumbing to come and fix their showers since it seems their maintenance guys cannot handle a simple hot water plumbing issue. I didn't know it has this hard to maintain 10 showers. They check them constantly and even added a trash can so they can watch you shower and yet each curtain still has mold all over them, the drains smell like sewage and the tops of the walls and caked in dust an dirt. It's like they go all out cleaning the entire gym and cannot handle mold or cleaning on top of a divider wall. They spend all the check on people in the showers maybe if they are going to be in the showers watching people they should at least be scrubbing the mold... I love the gym but my goodness this location is half assed. We make the outside very pretty much the functions are left to disrepair. Maybe one day this gym will hire some real plumbers and maybe stop watching people in the showers long enough to scrub the mold off the walls and curtains.. read more

Visiting Austin on vacation and decided to drop-in for a workout by paying the day pass fee. Front desk and location manager were super friendly and surpassed the vibe check. The facility was huge and really well kept so I got my moneys worth and was able to work arms, core and legs during my visit. Lots of cardio machines too. This place is full of creepy men. There's too many guys who wear sunglasses while sitting on exercise equipment and just looking around, men who constantly stare and make uncomfortable eye contact while your hip thrusting or deadlifting and there's also no safe space for women to stretch or warm up. I've had to drop my weights and confront the men and say 'what are you staring at?!' and all they do is shrug their shoulders and walk away. I have to wear a XL baggy shirt and then wrap another long sleeve around my waist so I feel somewhat comfortable. As I'm typing this review up, I am stretching on the black mats right outside the spin classroom and there is a man right behind me sitting on the seated dip machine, with polarized sunglasses made by Pit Viper. And No, those are not prescription sunglasses. They are regular sunglasses. read more

I've enjoyed my membership for years but recently I needed to term my membership due to life changes. I was given the run around and when with speaking with Ken the general manager things was made worse. It took an act of congress to cancel my membership. I kept getting the run around and Ken was rude. I hate to say it upon his response to my concerns I was just as rude. When I pay my money anywhere, I want to be heard. Ken acted like I was bothering him and at some point, hung up in my face. My company was looking to do a business partnership with LA Fitness, I'll share my experience. If you want to feel valued and like you voice and money matters DO NOT CALL KEN AT LA Fitness. Look elsewhere for a gym membership. I'm so disappointed in Ken. The gym equipment is decent, and there are sufficient sanitization wipes in the month I've been using the gym. The sales team is a bit intense. To sign up for anything, even the free complementary stuff that comes with a membership, it has to be done through them. And they will not stop trying to push additional things. I get that they are a sales team, and their job is to sell things. But signing up for a class is maybe a 10min task. Not a 35-40min discussion of PRT and why its worth doing. I have other things to get to. It should all get automated at this point. read more

I go in today. I tell the three guys at the front desk about the mess in front of the building. When I leave about an hour later it is still there. And the people at the front desk are goofing around doing nothing. This place is always dirty and they do not care. My rating is a big 0! read more

I enjoy the swimming pool, and the water is a much more reasonable temp than most of the pools outdoors this time of the year! Haven't really explored more of this gym to comment on the rest of the equipment, but the pool serves its function and is mostly clean on the days that I'm there. Only thing keeping it from being a 5-star for me is that I wish it were only even more cool temps! read more
