This is the first gym I've ever signed up for in my life so not much that I can compare to... however, I can speak to how much I enjoy coming here and taking classes! Definitely check if your employer has a corporate rate- in my case, I didn't have to pay an initiation fee. In my experience, the management and concierge folks have been very helpful and friendly (for example, I had some issues with the app, and I had questions about starting a maternity freeze while I was pregnant.) The maternity freeze process was very smooth- they'll send you a link to a form to fill out and it was seamless. Coming back from the freeze was really easy too, as I just needed to check in at the front desk and that was it! The classes are really fun and I genuinely look forward to them. I went to a bunch of yoga classes while I was pregnant and the instructors took time to help me adjust the poses (because you can't do baby cobra while you've got a huge pregnant stomach!) and kept an eye on me to make sure I was doing ok. I'm in the process of getting back to the grind postpartum and I'm happy that I can try more classes now (like the spin classes and hot yoga classes.) The locker room is always very clean and organized- I've had no issues with regards to cleanliness, towels, etc. read more

Men's steam room sensor is broken so the alarm is constantly going off. The locker room should be a place of calm and it's impossible with a blaring alarm going off every 15 min and piercing your ears. I reported this issue a year ago. read more

Do not sign up their team does not care about your needs. Plus they are rude. they will say anything to get you to commit and sign the contract and anything you have told them or they have agreed will not be written in. I told them I could only sign up if I could leave in a month as I was moving to Mexico. They said this was no problem that I could cancel and would not have to pay. Not once did they tell me I had to be locked in at 45 days. Then they rushed me to sign the contract by saying to fill the form to pay check the box then come in to take about the contract. This equinox is one of the more luxurious of the clubs in nyc. The design from the lobby, stairs, locker room and workout floor is super sleek. It's also probably one of the biggest ones- there's two floors full of equipment. I was disappointed however that they didn't have the foot rest used for single leg split squats. Every other equinox has them and it's a vital part of my leg day routine. If they add one or two of those, this would definitely be one of the most perfect and complete gyms. read more

It's extremely rare for me to post negative reviews, but I really dislike Equinox and really miss my Chelsea Piers. It's a shame there isn't any decent alternative nearby. I'm a current reluctant member and joined solely because of proximity. This is pretty much where the positives end. Cons: 1) Way overpriced rate for quite basic services (see more below). 2) Limited # of some equipment: there is only 1 set of wide cross-cable and 1 sitting chest press in the whole club, and there is always a rat race even if there is only a medium level of occupancy (They do have A LOT of treadmills on both floors, more than half of which sit idle most of the time. They could easily reduce some and add more of other widely used equipment.) 3) There used to be only only 1 foot strap for leg exercises which disappeared last year, and after complaining to the staff, no one ever bothered to replace it. 4) No swimming pools: None of the 3 closest locations have a swimming pool. The closest 1 is in Columbus Circle. And the others in West Village & Hudson Yards are just too exclusive that I don't have access to with an all-access membership, and not even for an extra daily fee, which I'd gladly pay. 5) And lastly, a little more of arrogant pretentious douchebags than one ideally would prefer. read more

I wanted to share my experience as a premium member for several years of equinox. I booked and arrived at my yoga class at 12:31 PM and the so called manager just denied me the entry for a couple seconds. The reason she gave me? Not disturb the other whereas the class did not even start. I am super chocked by this experience and how rude was this person. Of course I get that being late is impolite for the class teacher and the others but I also think that a couple seconds doesn't change much. Also I work and I was running to this class in between two meetings, and i think that when you pay $300 you should be treated with a minimum of considération. Since I have started going here there has been issues. When I bring them up, nothing is done about it. Last issue I had took four months to resolve. Currently, they have two spin bikes on the floor and one of them is faulty. I mentioned this to the front desk over a wand nothing has been done about it. Someone could injure themselves. This gym is busting at the seams with people. They have the money to maintain their equipment properly. Not worth the money. Apparently this is one of the newer clubs so the design is very in line with their current branding. The club looks sleek and modern, it's beautiful. I really like how the elevators are right in front and easy to spot (yay for accessibility). The club is quite large and generally split into 4 different floors. They have some different classes offered here (compared to others in the area), like the one with the rowers. The locker room is beautiful and super spacious. Like every Equinox, it is super well maintained and clean. I came here for a class so can't comment too much on the equipment but it seems like they have the standard stuff you will find at other clubs. read more

Like all Equinox, this is a full service gym. They got all the amenities that you want, Kiehl products, towel service, clean facility, large classroom, spin classes, etc. Since the space is brand new and I am anal when it comes to cleanliness - I knew this would be a great opportunity to join. They really do make other gyms in the area look bad. If you work around there area, make sure you ask if they have a corporate discount. They also have a steam room works really well after a great workout. This is a corporate gym, so you will see a lot of the corporate guys here and annoying enough - some like to have full one conversations in here. Full service weight area and you will find everything you need plus more. Only downside is that during peak hours, usually 5-8pm, the facility is quiet full. I never had a problem using the equipment I want, but as people are signing up now...I can see that happening. My thoughts is that they open this location to ease capacity at the 19th and Broadway location since that was packed like a night club, but this is filling up quick too. I love the décor of the classes, its super funky and makes you feel alive. Only complaint perhaps is that the place is too well lit. While my home location fixes their lack of hot water issue, I've been trying out all of the other ones. So, okay, listen. I know that I gushed about other locations having full walls in between shower stalls and how that was like the greatest thing ever. But Gramercy has curated such a vibe that I can reconcile the frosted glass-like dividers in-between stalls. Finally a location in gramercy! Long time all access member of Equinox, love visiting as many locations as I can. Yes I am obsessed with Equinox and its fantastic classes. Love that this location is mostly above ground so natural light! Love this location! It's definitely a step up more sophisticated than park ave location. People are mostly later 20s/young 30s. All the typical equinox things here- main studio, yoga/barre studio, spin studio, tons of free weights, tons of machines, everything you can imagine. All the machines are new and in excellent condition and are up to date with the latest technology. Womens locker rooms are all the way upstairs which is a pain. Several floors. Some of the trainers here are great- good tip- if you see people in light blue shirts- they are actual trainers! they walk around and are there if you have questions, most people don't realize they are actual trainers and are there to help people out! LOVE LOVE LOVE the group fitness classes. They are so much fun and the energy is always high. Instructors are enthusiastic and challenging. Locker rooms- Def one of the better locations I. Terms of amenities.... finally hair ties and shower caps.... yes it's the little things.typical Equinox amenities (towels, q-tips,cotton balls, shaving creme razors and of course KIEHL's bath & body products - shampoo, conditioner, body wash, creme de corp moisturizers) ton of lockers with built-in locks so no need to bring a lock! Showers here of course & Steam room is kind of small here but does the job. TIP: If you are thinking of joining, best way to get the best rate is to go thru a current member. My advisor who I have known for over 10 years is the best, he is upfront, honest, not pushy and will get you the best deal. Gramercy is one of the newer locations in the city, I believe. It encompasses 4 floors. The check in and juice press are on the 1st. Membership, shop, and strength/cardio are on the 2nd. Mens locker room, strength/cardio on the 3rd. Womens locker room and group fitness on the 4th. I love the locker rooms here. It is chic and nicely designed. I also like the little waiting area between the membership offices and the shop. The eucalyptus towels were an optimal cold temperature. I came during peak hours, about 6 pm on a Thursday evening. Despite it being peak hours, I didn't have to wait for a bench or a machine. Overall, I had a good workout and experience at this club. read more

Horrible gym. As stated by other people, this gym has major issues that management seem to do nothing about. The staff members/trainers/spa workers are very, very rude. Not to mention, the manager barks at you in a very condescending way if you bring up any issues to them. First problem - The trainers. They all yell at each other from across the gym. They all congregate in groups when not in training sessions and scream and laugh while taking Instagram stories and pictures. Not professional at all. And it is very distracting to guests. They literally yell right across your face to their friends at the other end of the gym. This behavior carries on into the lockers rooms as well. Second, the trainers hog all of the equipment and do not move when you kindly ask them to. So there is no space for guests to workout because the trainers use all of the equipment for their own personal fitness (they are not training people, this is just for their own fitness). Third, the music is obnoxiously loud. You can't even hear your own music on your phone because of their pounding rap/club music playing. Fourth, if you bring a guest, you better be comfortable with them taking a picture of YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE. They don't even ask. They just snap a pictures of your guests ID. This is a total breech of privacy. When brought to the attention of the manager, he says (in a very rude, confronting, condescending way) that its company policy and your ID gets automatically uploaded to the equinox corporate iCloud forever! This is totally unacceptable and probably against the law in other states as it's a breech of privacy. read more

Equipment isn't crammed in and there's no windowless basement floor like the some of the LI EQX locations. My husband and I are existing members of the Park Avenue location. We've been eagerly awaiting the opening of the Gramercy location, and went to try it out today. Upon arrival, we were told we each had to pay $35 for passes. This was pretty disappointing. We even offered to use up some of our guest passes, but they said no - "those are only for non-members." Only after we expressed displeasure did they reveal that we can get a refund if we end up switching to the new location (after a 45 day "processing period"). As a loyal customer of Equinox for years, being forced to shell out $70 for the privilege of sampling the new location they're offering for a single hour (while anyone else walking in gets a free trial) didn't exactly make us good about the brand as a whole or feel like valued customers. Forget the refund - now we're considering switching to a new gym entirely. read more

I have been an equinox member for several years at different locations and this is one of my favorites - some people think it's annoying that there are multiple floors but i actually prefer it. It feels less crowded to me. Great classes and amenities as well. My favorites are spin, yoga and metcon. Corrine is the best spin instructor. Very spacious locker rooms. I just started going to this gym and I love it. I am totally not a "gym" person - I love my studios, yoga, etc. I just moved to NYC from LA and all the studios are so much more expensive here! So my friend referred me to Equinox. She loved the service and the class and thought it would be worth me trying. Equinox is great - I do not regret signing up what so ever. New York is such a hard place to live but Equinox makes working out easy and convenient (thank god!) There are locations all over Manhattan, they have beautiful, clean showers. Also, they provide kiehls hair and body products - My hair has never been so soft! There is rarely a line for the showers (only when class just gets out, so if I'm in a rush- I keep an eye on the clock to make sure I get to the showers before they all get out.) The service is above and beyond - you are definitely getting what you pay for. They have a great app that tracks when you work out, a juice bar in the lobby, one free personal training session - I even had a guy ask me if I would like an extra towel while I was working out! Then they have the cold towels with eucalyptus oil - to die for! The location I go to (gramercy) has amazing classes as well! Hot yoga, Pilates studio, spin classes, barre and toning classes. This is an okay Equinox. It's brand new, but it already seems like it's at capacity -- it was crazy busy when I went, and I've heard reports from others that it was that way too (despite all of us going at different times). The layout isn't as good as the other Equinoxes I frequent (Flatiron and Williamsburg), and although there are more floors, everything seems a little bit more cramped. The group fitness rooms, especially the one on the second floor, are long and narrow, making it hard to see the instructor and find your own space. Everything is located in a weird place, and can be hard to find -- rooms, towels, designated spaces for stretching and mat workouts. Luckily there's some signage by the elevators to help guide you, but you really have to make an effort to hunt for what you're looking for. Because everything's new though, everything's still pretty nice. Will probably still keep attending the other Equinox clubs though; this one just seems way too cramped and busy in comparison. read more

I love this gym. The classes are great and there is a really good variety, the classes are also super easy to book via the app. The Equinox app is awesome in and of itself. I typically go after work around 6:30/7 and on the weekends around 12:30. The classes book up fast but I haven't had a problem getting in. I don't feel that the gym is over crowded. Of course there are peak times/days but that's at all gyms. I've been to a number of Equinoxes in the city and this is my favorite. It's super clean plus all the staff have all been super nice and accommodating. The only thing that bothers me here is that the showers in the women's lockers room are designed poorly as you cannot tell if they are in use when someone's in the stall. I've had the shower door opened on me twice in just the past month alone. I'm not modest but yea it's still pretty annoying. Now when I shower at the gym I throw a towel over the door so that it's clear someone is in that stall. On numerous occasions I've seen people knocking on shower doors or attempting to peer inside the frosted doors to try and see if a particular stall is open. I just can't believe they didn't design the doors to make it evident which showers were currently in use and which were not. That would be a very easy fix. Good gym and good facilities because it is new. My gripe is with Equinox management that has regressive policies on the most profitable clients. I pay $190/month + $140/session for Tier 3+ training and represent over $11,000 per year in revenue. As a busy executive with variability in my schedule, I've burned many training sessions due to last-minute cancellations. I work in the city but live in Bronxville, so I just switched to Scarsdale (with even worse reviews), but I hope to make it work. I have asked at least 4 times to speak with management, but this falls on deaf ears despite their annual survey which is a Net Promoter Score design. Unhappy, unengaged but still a member. I had a 5-star experience at Equinox, but the cancellation process had been such a NIGHTMARE it's now a 1-star. ---- In December, I had a one-month trial at Equinox which I won through a work contest. I LOVED IT. At the end of my trial (12/30), I spoke with a Membership Advisor and informed her I wanted to join Gramercy but starting 1/15. She said that's fine, collected my credit card details over the phone and that was it. On 1/4, I received news that I may be relocating so I contacted the same Membership Advisor right away to cancel my membership before it starts. They gave me the HARDEST time and so much pushback. They said I was past their "3-day clause" so I could not cancel. It didn't matter that my membership didn't start yet. It is 3 days from the day I pay. Well, no one told me that. No one even gave me anything to sign. The AGM (I believe his name is Brendan) said he would forward along my contact details to his GM Greg. I never heard from Greg so I tried contacting him by phone and email, but no response. I called Gramercy and they said he was in, but was unavailable to take my call. It was obvious that he was ignoring my emails and dodging my calls. I finally had to call corporate and they were able to confirm that the GM would process the cancellation, give me a refund, AND finally respond to my emails. Gyms are notorious when it comes to cancellations. They're all the more willing to help when you want to join, but they're nowhere to be found when you want to cancel. I honestly think I was able to cancel because I paid over the phone and did not physically sign any contracts. The sad thing is I really enjoyed my time at Equinox Gramercy and would rate everything else 5-stars until this. Something that should've been super simple snowballed into an unbelievably stressful experience and changed my views of Equinox. I thought they were different, but NOPE - just another gym out to get your money. read more

The most miserable experience I've ever had at a gym. My wife and I have been members of this Equinox for almost a year now. Having known for some time that we weren't going to renew, we notified the club months in advance so as not to receive any surprise charges at the end (apparently that wasn't enough). Despite countless emails and attempts to get in touch with Cecilia, the assistant manager, i had an extremely difficult time getting in contact with her. When I was finally able to find her at the gym, the conversation that proceeded was incredibly irrational and condescending. I was told that because only "I" (the account holder and person that pays for both accounts) had contacted her from my personal email and not my wife's email, only mine would be cancelled and my wife's would be subject to renewing for another 45 days! Are you joking??....I've been telling you guys for months about this and I'm not cancelling anything....simply not renewing my plan. For a gym that prides itself on customer service and being "high end," the least you could do is not take several days to answer an email and then try to nab us on a technicality. When I asked if I could speak to the regional manager about this she told me it wasn't necessary, but as I insisted, she said they'll email me back at their "convenience." She then told me she'd see what she could do....as if she was doing us an epic favor....but then proceeded to charge my credit card 5 min. after my wife emailed her, despite my wife saying that she did not approve of the charges. I walked into the gym today and I asked for a list of the classes cause the app was down. The woman (Carla) at the front desk told me to google it. I pay over 3k a year for a gym that can afford to print me out a list of the classes. This is suppose to be a luxury gym and I have had nothing but rude people at the front desk greet me every morning. I expect better! [Update: I went back to the front desk to sign up for the class just to see a print list of all the classes on a clipboard at the front desk. I joined for the trial, because I am an avid gym goer, 6/week and was attracted to the luxury factor and the unique design and facilities. After my trial, which went great-- I went to a membership consultants office and asked a couple questions since I was really considering joining. I specifically asked her if i would be charged the regular monthly fee if I froze my account this coming february due to me being out of the country for work obligations. She mentioned there is only a 30 something freezing fee, and that I wouldn't be charged extra. She also told me the location on columbus ave (Lincoln center) was included in the 260 membership. She was clearly trying to get me to sign up right away and i told her I needed to think about it ect, maybe do some research. I called Shoshana Edelman and she told me 1. I would be charged a regular monthly fee, even if I froze the membership, on top of the freezing fee , because the one year commitment needs to be over.. not understanding how this makes sense if every year is a one year contract. There is no trial year. So basically, February 2020 I would not be able to freeze a month and not get charged a monthly fee. I'd have to wait until one year in the membership to get this privilege. 2. The location on columbus ave is not included in the membership i was looking at. The deception is the most annoying part of it. It's such an unethical way to run a business. This disgusts me. I would have maybe still joined regardless of missing one month because of how much i enjoy the facilities and classes, but the lying and the back and forth and non-transparency sickens me. read more

I was considering leaving my gym for this new location. While I have spoke with one of their membership advisor months before this location opened, I knew I would have to work out here first before I make a decision on joining a gym that cost twice as much as my current gym. I don't care much for their products, towels, or laundry service. I put more value on the workout space and their machines. So I called the location to see if I can get a daily pass to see how I like it and if this was going to offer more than what I currently get at my local gym. They don't offer daily passes, they just want you to hear the sals pitch. So months ago when they where offering a "deal" to sign up before the club opened I went to another branch to find out there was no deal. Just their regular price. I than asked if there would be a significant discount if I paid for the year upfront. Yes, about $50 which I thought it was a joke at first. So unless you join this gym for the soap and body wash, I don't see anything special about it. I'm not even a member and every experience I had with them so far was a disappointment. 1 star off for aggressive/salty patrons which Equinox uniquely seems to attract. Definitely subtracts from the zen/yoga/spa vibe. That said, my fiance and I joined Equinox in Nov for ~$200/month each with a company discount. We split our time between the Flatiron location and now Gramercy-- both locations are about equal in quality and service (and unfortunately, crowding). We heart the Equinox front desk staff, they are all total sweethearts, (thanks Brianna at Flatiron!) And I personally truly appreciate the high-energy, hustling group fitness instructors (Lewis McNairy, Rachel Mariotti, D Gunnz). read more
