This location is consistently overcrowded. During peak hours, it can take up to 30 minutes to access a treadmill. There appears to be little enforcement of basic gym etiquette - no one should be walking on a treadmill for two hours while a line of members is waiting. Several pieces of equipment have been broken for months. Despite repeated complaints, there has been no clear resolution or communication regarding repairs. I reached out to the General Manager, Melina, about these concerns and received what felt like a generic, impersonal response written using ChatGPT. The issue was then passed off to a junior team member without meaningful follow-up. As a member of nearly three years, it's disheartening to see what feels like a steady decline in service and accountability - especially considering the cost of membership. For the price point, you would be better off joining Equinox for a higher standard of service and overall gym experience. The only reason I am giving two stars is because many of the staff members and fellow members are consistently kind and welcoming. read more

As a current Gympass user, I've been able to check out a ton of gyms around manhattan and thus I have mixed reviews about this lifetime. It is great that they have a plethora of squat racks and benches, but I'm not a fan of how unnecessarily high-tech the machines are. A lot of the machines here, specifically the hamstring curl and pec fly machines feel really weird compared to the life fitness brand machines you can find at equinox and other gyms. This lifetime also lacks vital equipment like the t bench for tricep overhead extensions and the leg rest for Bulgarian split squats. If you're the type of person who really values the "luxury" vibe of a gym, then this lifetime is for you. But if you just want a gym that has all the right, common equipment, then I'd go with equinox or even crunch fitness. read more

I joined this gym a month ago after needing a change of atmosphere, one that reflected a better vibe and more of a work crowd. From the moment I walked in, the smell was excellent, the staff pleasant, and the sign-in process simple. I love that people in this gym are working out and focused. Now, here is where I am sold. I joined the reform Pilates class with Julia; what a great trainer and motivator both my daughter and I signed up and made this our home gym. We go at 6:00 pm, and there are no issues with finding equipment to use or space to stretch: nice size, swimming pool, sauna, and classes. Whatever we need is here, and I am pleased we enrolled. I have visited Noho. It is nice and clean, just small; Penn beautifully loved it and will be back for a class. Expensive but worth it read more

If you are a swimmer, stay away. The website says that the lap pool "ranges between 20 and 25 meters in length." On that basis, I signed up. Imagine my surprise to get there, get changed into my suit, take my shower as instructed, and then get on the pool deck to find a pool that is .... maybe 12 meters at most. In any event, its not a size that is anything close to what a regular swimmer would find necessary to get a reasonable workout. I asked the lifeguard if any of the pools in Manhattan are regular size. You guessed it -- nope. So back to the YMCA for me. Total waste of time and false advertising. read more

I have been coming to this location for the last month and have had a positive experience every time. There was enough cardio equipment for everyone to go around. But the weight section needs to be included. PROS: 1. There is space to move around and put a mat on the floor for dumbbell work. 2. The music is not unbearably loud 3. I have never had to wait for a cardio machine 4. Normal people (not everyone is a supermodel) 5. The place has been well-kept, and I wonder why everyone complains about unkept locker rooms. When I am there, there is always an attendant cleaning, and I've had no complaints. * I am not even going to put this in PROS because this is the main reason why I keep coming back every time, and that is the Pilates with Julie. Pilates is not for the weak, and I took my very first Pilates class here, and it has changed my life. It is an experience that is worth every penny. The classes are reasonably priced, and Julie (the instructor) makes the class worth even more. Pilates is only as great as the instructor; Julie has been doing this for over 40 years. I feel welcomed, unjudged, and supported. If you are already a Lifetime member, I'd highly suggest taking a Pilates class with Julie, which will ultimately elevate your experience. CONS: Even though Lifetime is a nice gym, and I've been enjoying my time there, I would say the "gym bros" at this location are brutal. Every weight machine is taken by a 20-something-year-old guy who does a set of one, sits there for 20 minutes, and repeats for an hour. This definitely takes away from the experience since you are left waiting for something to open up. I am not huge on weight machines, but I'm waiting for someone to leave when I want to get them in. read more

Overall it is a great gym and I would have given five stars, but they eliminated the ability to reserve a lane in the lap pool. I used to swim here almost every day, reserving a lane ahead of time, but now I never swim here because swimming lanes are "first come, first serve". I would not recommend this location, probably the worst location. The sinks are always dirty, as well as the mirrors and the blow dryers never work. The showers always filled with hair and one time ive seen a water bug in the SHOWER! I seen bed bug once in a locker and on the towel, i've filed a complaint not sure if they situated that issue before it starts spreading and gets infested. So I started going to another location to be on the safer side. Whenever I go I always see the manager working out or not there at all. Front desk staff are always chatty and unhelpful. Not sure if this establishment knows how to run or upkeep their business. I'll say save your money while you can because it's not worth spending 300+ on a membership unless it's another lifetime location. read more

Additionally, this place is outfitted with more top of the line equipment than I've seen in any club. The facility is immaculately clean, the staff is great. We've been coming to this location for years, since the NYHRC days. The gym and facilities are still nice. But they've started holding LOUD exercise classes out on the gym floor with no regard for the other paying members. It's nothing short of obnoxious! I can't even hear my own earbuds over that racket. It's a shame, but I'll be looking for a new health club. They need to be more thoughtful about ALL of their customers--especially at these prices. Get it together LIFETIME! read more

While I like the gym by itself, what I don't like is that people blocked the paths for egress in what are clearly walkways and one even to an emergency exit. People are on the floor stretching in areas that should be designated against that. It's dangerous and annoying. read more

$250 a month? For a gym?? That's almost as much is my car payment! I was a member of this gym when it was New York Health and Racquet Club, and it was very nice. One could get a membership for about $70 a month if one paid for two years in advance. Now, they have spent over a year renovating and all they've done is change some colors, but it's essentially the same gym. And they have tripled the price! this is beyond insanity. Oh yes and the newfangled combination lockers they put in don't work half the time. The lockers are truly an example of technology gone amok. It was so much easier when I could just bring my own two dollar combination lock. read more

This is one of the nicest gyms in Manhattn and it has a salt water pool. I was also a NYHRC member before the pandemic and understand the price shock for many, but that shows that NYHRC was not charging enough for the excellent services they were providing, and now they are out of business. I am very glad that Lifetime kept the configuration as it was during their renovation, with separate steam room and saunas by gender, and generous size locker rooms. The pool and whirlpool are new and in excellent shape, and judging by how well the pool is maintained at Lifetime Sky, I anticipate similar maintenance and cleanliness here. My interactions with the sales and the customer relations staff have been the best all through the pandemic and up until now as I have begun to use my membership. The best part is they have hired back Jenni P., one of the best water workout experts in the country, to lead their Aqua classes. With her techniques, participants at all levels can work out together and receive the maximum benefit. More classes are needed and Jenni has already brought in Christopher L., who teaches with the same principles, to open more Aqua sessions in the morning. I hope they are able to have her train, or bring in, more Aqua instructors using her technique so that more classes can be offered, especially in the early evening. read more

Meanwhile everyone else (this gym is predominantly caucasian so you know who I mean) gets to breeze by. It's giving let's triple check that this black girl is supposed to be here. Please clean the bottom of the pool . It's disgusting . Also please have people wear bathing caps - I've seen women with super long hair swimming with no cap on and it's gross. I've always thought Life Time is the nicest gym in Manhattan. The equipment is brand new and the facilities are much nicer than competitors, and that has never changed. I used to be a member at Sky years ago and today I go to the new 23rd street location. The personal trainers are amazing and everyone who works the front desk is very nice (I especially love saying hi to John in the mornings). Lately, I've been coming here mostly for spin classes. There are instructors that are amazing like Laura. The issue I have is that often times the app says Laura will be teaching and I show up and it is a substitute, Bishop G. He is the substitute for all spin classes so I end up taking at least one class of his a week. He is my least favorite instructor and I have no way of avoiding his classes given he subs for several classes each week and the app doesn't update when the instructor changes. I'm sure several people use their gyms mostly for group classes so I think management to pay more attention to these classes and instructors. read more

I was a member here when it was New York Health and Racquet Club a decade plus years. Never mind the sauna being down every other week, or the hot water in the shower not working, I think for someone paying $250 a month they would have a good sense of cleaning up after themselves (to an extend) especially in the locker rooms. I'm not sure if Life Time is giving lower rates to corporate members because some of the members there are very much unclean and lack respect to other members. They take over the entire bench with their entire wardrobe and makeup closet on the bench. So I think Life Time should watch out to whom they give membership. I don't want to pay that money and get low quality service. Extremely low class members and not a clean club. read more

Due to lingering covid, I'm not ready to work out in the main gym...a 30 min only workout sucks. After two years of pandemic, I finally convince myself to join the gym again. I was looking around my neighborhood to explore options and soon after I was scheduled for a tour at lifetime fitness Chelsea, but I did not like the service and tour at all. The GM was very rude and unprofessional. He asked me to join the gym right now several times. Once I told him that I was not ready to join the gym now, his attitude was impatient and arrogant. Stay away from this place. I froze my account for 6 months due to my pregnancy, regardless they continued to charge me, I was calling them for two week to get refunded with no result. I got my refund from life time fitness after I contacted amex and asked them to help me with the issue, and closed my membership completely. Two weeks later they charged me again! I was a member of HYHRC for about 5 years before that, I payed twice less. I didn't see any serious change to the gym or renovation, nothing that would justify the price rase in 2.5 times. I still gave this gym 6 months to see if I like it there. I would say considering how they play tricks with you - I would not recommend anybody to get a membership there , for a price like that you definitely can find something better. read more

I've been a member at many different gyms in the city, and this is hands down my favorite. The front desk staff is the nicest ever. Actually, every staff member is lovely. The locker rooms are always clean, and the classes are great. The app is easy to use to book lanes in the pool, which is great. Big fan! read more
