I was in need of a gym and having a pool was one of the requirements so that limited the options in the area for me that wasn't a 20 minute+ drive way so I decided to check out Equinox first and ended up really liking the vibe. The classes feel like studio classes (like barre or spin, etc.) that you'd be paying almost $200/month for without any amenities or regular gym equipment. I've been to other gyms in the past that had a lot of hm, lets just call it people watching and social hour. Folks here are definitely here to workout, do their own thing and friendly. Definitely a no judgement zone. I also had some hesitations based on other reviews about not being able to freeze or cancel membership within the first year especially if you have an injury and what not but decided to go for it anyway despite that, more on that later. Some other other gyms didn't seem to be any better based on those reviews so it probably would've been similar issues elsewhere anyway. When you initial sign up, they give you some comp sessions with a trainer (to obviously sell you personal training) but it's something I wanted to try anyway. I thought, why not, let's give it a go for a few months since I thought it would be good to get an extra boost and back into a routine. Well, a few months had passed and then I had some travel plans so I was away from the gym but then came back from my travels with a severe knee injury where I could barely walk. It sucked but I showed up anyway. Not because I couldn't cancel my membership due to the contract terms but because I needed movement for rehab. I was initially hesitant about returning to training because I felt like I wouldn't be training at 100%. And let's be real, the training sessions aren't cheap. After some discussion with physical therapist for a rehab plan, I decided to return to training with Summer and it was honestly one of the best decisions I've made. Summer programed exercises for me to supplement my PT. She has been really awesome to work with, because my program needed a lot of re-working along the way to adapt to my rehab progress. She's also open to feedback and really great with listening to my input on things that I want to work on. While I am still ways away from being 100% recovered from my knee injury, I already feel like it's night and day compared to just a few months ago. So why only 4 stars? Well, only taking one off is quite generous despite some issues with their app, specifically for training and the so-so amenities in the locker room. The app isn't the best and there were some miscommunications with it that led to a lot of frustration but the training manager Matt was really nice and made it right. The other reason for taking off the star was the amenities which they finally changed to something that smells way better. The previous products didn't smell good and it seemed like the shampoo, body wash, and face cleanser seemed like it was all the same soap in the shower. Didn't feel like there is anything different between the stuff in the bottles. It wouldn't even upset me that there was just one multipurpose wash but the same soap in the different bottles is just confusing for me. Like what's the point? Anyway, good riddance with the old stuff. I haven't tried the new stuff yet aside from the lotion that smells heavenly. I haven't been to the other locations to compare but this one is sufficient for my needs. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before I joined. Equinox required me to commit to a year contract which sounded excessive but they assured me there was flexibility given any life changing events. They are now not honoring one of the mentioned reasons as to why I'd be able to cancel. It's not worth it - this is now such a waste of money. Actually life changing. I've waited to review this gym, and I can confidently say that after a year of being a member - it is worth every penny!! With Equinox you truly get what you pay for - cleanliness, supportive and attentive staff, great atmosphere, quality equipment and machines, and incredible amenities. As someone who had a membership at both Planet Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness, there is nothing like Equinox. Regardless of the time of day, or day of the week - their version of "busy" or "peak times" is nothing in comparison to other gyms. I've always been able to find a spot to workout (squat rack, free weights, etc) and have hardly ever had to wait for a machine. In the few times I have had to wait, it was super short or Ive been able to work into a set with another person. It's also incredibly clean with wonderful amenities. My ideal Saturday consists of getting to Equinox - completing a workout, steam room session (15-20 mins), shower and massage. Also, I definitely want to shoutout the trainer I worked with, Jordan! I saw results in 3 months of working with him than I have in over a year of training with someone else. There is also a full spa!! Shoutout to Hailey and Amelia!! I've had them both as massage therapists - and they were both AMAZING!!! Overall, is it pricey? Yes, but all of the benefits are more than worth it!!! I've been an Equinox member for over five years in Southern California and visit the San Ramon area once or twice a year. This was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had at any Equinox location. After what I believed was a successful check-in, a staff member interrupted my workout by tapping me on the shoulder and asking me to stop by the front desk after I finished. About five minutes later, I was interrupted again--this time by two employees, including the manager, Lawrence Sanderson, who approached me in the middle of my workout and asked for my name. The issue wasn't whether there was a problem with my access. If I needed a day pass or didn't have access to this club under my membership, that could have been explained professionally and respectfully. Instead, I was treated as though I wasn't even an Equinox member. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational, abrupt, and unwelcoming. Had the situation been handled courteously, I would have happily paid for a day pass or resolved whatever issue existed. Instead, the manager's rude and abrasive approach left such a poor impression that I decided to leave. To make matters worse, the club was extremely crowded, with long waits for equipment and very few machines available. Between the overcrowding and the way I was treated, the experience was far below what I've come to expect from Equinox. After five years as a loyal member, I'm genuinely disappointed. I've always associated Equinox with exceptional customer service and hospitality, but this location delivered the exact opposite. San Ramon has the best facility in the Bay Area. There are plenty of high-quality massage guns, a rooftop deck with lounge chairs and a pool. I can't swim, but it's nice to have. Staff is friendly, trainers and class instructors are warm -- treadmills and rowing machines are a little outdated but that's fine. This gym is also only steps away from a bunch of quality restaurants, coffee shops, a farmers market on Saturday, a William Sonoma for cookware lovers, Target, and Whole Foods across the street. You can practically live here. Also, great environment for remote/hybrid work. (All 3 floors have dedicated work spaces) I would give this place 6 stars, but equinox in general needs to switch back to Kielhls, the new brand is awful and irritates my skin. Really disappointing experience at the Equinox spa today. I drove 45 minutes to come here with my friend, who is a member. Her massage therapist was late and nobody could tell us if they were even coming in. I finished my massage and then sat waiting before finally being told my facial provider wasn't coming in today. Was in the area and decided to tour the location. Was shown around by Desiree. She was pleasant but seemed new. The location is interesting inside of this big mall like area. Parking can be annoying as there's many competing business around. The weight area is small and seems cramped for prime time. There was some small group training going on and navigating through them while being shown around was awkward, I could only imagine this place when it's after work. I was shown around the place at 2-3PM on a weekday. Aside from the small 7ish group training whatever it was going on there was no other active classes going on. Other reviews express concerns with classes being cancelled or the lack of them existing yet the site promotes their app with "lots of classes." So that would be concerning if you're a class attendee. I'm personally more into weight training and their equipment is outdated and the space is again.. very cramped. The saunas are nice, cool to have a heated rooftop pool but others have expressed issues with its heating. Locker rooms are nice. The main drawback is their membership. Desiree touted at them being the best location but the membership requirements of committing to a year are laughable. If you're the best, what would stop you from allowing members a month to month to make sure you're delivering on the promises and experience? This membership practice seems snaky to me. Get someone to sign up, they are forced into 3k~/year for an experience that doesn't justify its price tag. I emailed her back letting her know and that I'd be happy to try them out on a month to month in case I just can't work though some of my concerns and it got forwarded to management and then crickets. I've been a member at multiple Equinox locations (Woodland Hills, Encino, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Club SF, Pine Street, San Mateo) and even had an Orangetheory membership, and I can say with total confidence that Maryam is a gem. She's the most caring, attentive rep I've ever had. Let me share a personal moment that shows just how much she stands out. I once left my engagement and wedding rings in the gym shower. Initially, they couldn't be found, and I was panicking. I went straight to Maryam, and she immediately calmed me down, got me water, and assured me we'd figure it out. Another team member, Hailey, had seen my ring, and together they made sure it was found and returned to me. That personal care turned a very emotional moment into a positive one. Maryam also went out of her way to stack every discount when I re-signed after maternity leave (Amex Platinum perks, referral bonuses, holiday promos), and she resolved an old leave issue, never missing a single message from me. She always checks in whenever I'm in the club, asks how I'm doing, and invites me to stop by her office just to say hello. The entire staff is fantastic. Kyle, the general manager, is incredibly kind--he's a first-time dad, and when I signed up, he played with my son and had him giggling the whole time. I was interested in a gym membership for my wife and myself. So I called them to see if they have some kind of show-around type of an appointment etc. A girl picked up. She gave out an overwhelmingly "why the F are you calling me" vibe. Deeply uninterested in any of my questions. Gave rapid, rude and curt one syllable responses and kept putting herself on mute between responses. Look Equinox, I don't know what's going on there, but given the pretty high fees you charge, you can certainly train your reception staff to sound kind and interested in potential customers. This is kinda bare minimum in a high end health and hospitality business. I called at 12:17pm on Jan 17 2026. I think this gym is great! Out of all the locations (just moved back from New York) this is the best one I've been to. Super clean, new and spacious. Classes are great and plenty of variety. Showers are super prestige. Sure it's pricey and parking is at an outdoor shopping thing, those are the only downfalls of any. They just have to work on their ads haha. read more

Sales rep (Jered) told me the contract was 3 months. When I tried cancel after a month, he said I needed to wait for three billable months. After three billable months I tried to cancel and he was no longer employed there. I called the support number and they told me (in a very condescending tone) that I had a 12 month contract. I love Equinox. I used to be a member in San Francisco. This San Ramon location is so much better. It is super clean, all the staff is friendly, and the rooftop pool is so warm and beautiful. I only workout here with my sister(s)-in-law because they make working out fun and we get to reconnect in a fun way. One of my sister-in-laws is a total gym-bunny and works out at Equinox almost daily. We love the workout classes and ampl equipmentfor all of your needs. Layout is kind of wonky, and hard to find locker rooms if you don't know where it's at. Overall pretty nice gym. It also has a lock with your locker so you don't have to bring your own. Oh Equinox, how I like you so. It's the nicest gym in the area, and chicest, too. And, for it's charm and good looks, the priciest. Most gyms are a sweaty mess. Not here. People take care of themself, and generally, clean up after using the machines and equipment. This I like. This location has a small weight and nautilus area, and a few smallish rooms for yoga, cycling, pilates, etc. The pool on the 3rd floor is very nice and clean, but also small and no jacuzzi. Overall I really like the equinox at San Ramon. I was initially working out at 24hrs but it just got too messy over there that the wife and I decided to upgrade. The gym overall is very clean and most things are very well kept. Although they don't have all the machines you expect at a commercial gym, they have plenty and everything you need. I think the main issue with the him is that it closes a little too early and I with they extend it one more hour per day. Happy New Year 2023!!! First of all I'm so happy they opened Equinox here to continue my SF EQ (it's what my friends call it lol) experience. Most of all absolutely the team here is impeccable, kind, welcoming, fun, and chill. TLDR: This is my zen place, love it, especially that pool deck for sunrise and sunset colors. Eucalyptus towels and love yoga. The EQ team is awesome here Love the staff/team here from GMs, Memberships/sales, Front desk, Personal Trainers, to the mindful Yoga instructors bringing those good vibes. Shout out to the whole team. Everyone is super helpful and diligent Now, how about the gym itself? I looooove it, especially wandering to the pool deck rooftop catching that pretty sunrise if I wake up early enough for yoga and sunset when I'm settling down with yoga, lol, it works from AM to PM. The pool itself is heated so rain or shine you can feel comfortable swimming. The architects were smart since they also put the yoga and pilates classes upstairs which gives it that low key relaxed vibe. Ok let's head to the main floor where you'll find your typical gym with a weights room and as you walk back to the room you'll find your cardio (treadmills, ellipticals) machines, a gym class for kickboxing, weight cardio combo, dancing, barre class, and cycling. What differentiates this place is the great cleanliness and floor staff checking all the machines and equipment. Then let's head down to the juice store where you can get your green smoothies and the like. You can also do some work on the main floor or next to the juice area. I should also mention that they have these amazing cooling eucalyptus towels!!! Exactly what you need after an intense or even chill workout. It gets better, let's say you're super hungry after a workout, well all you have to do is step outside walk a minute or two and grab something to eat. I've been a member for about a year now and it has been the best decision I've made and best money I've spent! I have convinced 5 of my friends since to also get a membership and we are loving it. The staff is great and the gym is always clean! I love not having to walk into a stinky sweaty workout room and see teenagers in their pj's lol I can list about 100 reasons why this Equinox is amazing but I'll just name a few 1. Adults only 2. To be honest... at first, I wasn't a big fan of Equinox ONLY because we were bombarded with text messages and emails about signing up, after visiting the San Ramon facility to "check it out". Part of me felt like there was so much pressure to sign up "right away! Because the 'special price' would expire in a few days" (SMH) And then, once we were signed up..... "crickets". I sent a few emails with questions and never received a response back. Eh, oh well. No big deal. So fast forward to 6 months later and I FINALLY went to Equinox to take a Barre class (taught by Jennifer Chung).... and holy tucks and lifts, man! I'm hooked! I'll admit, I had low expectations at my first Barre class here. Reason being, I've taken Barre classes (and more) at other gyms and it's not the same as taking a Barre class from a specialized studio (ie: Purre Barre). I always walked out of the class disappointed. BUT NOT AT EQUINOX! I have now taken several Barre classes (Jennifer Chung & Sallie Kinser) and let me tell you... not one single class was the same. Each class kicked your b@tt and worked out your ENTIRE body. Both Jennifer and Sallie are incredibly positive and motivating. In addition to Barre, I've had the opportunity to try Ropes & Rowers and Vinyasa Yoga. If you want a CrossFit style of a workout, then sign up for Ropes & Rowers with Katie Kinser. You'll work out every muscle in your body... even ones you never knew you had, LOL. At the time of this review, Equinox requires all members (and staff) to wear a mask. Staff also checked our vaccination status. Equinox is a beautiful facility. It's immaculate. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Instructors are upbeat and positive. I can't wait for their Spa and juice bar to open back up, too. Note: finding a parking spot can be kind of a nightmare on Friday evenings and Saturdays mid-morning. So, if you plan on taking a workout class, please give yourself plenty of time :) All in all....I'm a fan. A big fan of Equinox and will return, over and over and over again. read more

Another example is the patch up wall I've been staring at the past month that's not even been painted. I mean this is an hour job for anyone who cares what their gym looks...it's just management doesn't care. As I've left the gym for good on Friday for Lifetime fitness in WC, this patch area hasn't been taken care of. Came to take a tour of Equinox. After giving the front desk my name, address, email and phone number, they insisted on taking a picture of my drivers license! For a guided tour?! They insisted and were very rude about it. I even offered to show them my drivers license, but since I've had issues with identity theft, I didn't want a picture of it in their system unnecessarily. That wasn't good enough. I turned around to leave and they finally relented. But, by then I was so mad, I wasn't interested in joining anymore. Their weight room/cardio room is pretty small (about 1/4 the size of 24 hour fitness). I went at 4:30 pm on a weekday and it was really busy. I was hoping for less crowds considering the hefty price tag of $212/mo per person. Pilates classes are an extra fee. Initiation fee is $300, but sometimes they wave that. read more

I've been a member of equinox the past few years and have worked out at different locations- Hudson Yards, W92nd, Columbus Circle, among others in New York. This location in San Ramon is my favorite! The lobby is spacious, great machines, and there's a beautiful rooftop pool to lounge on. The best thing about this place though, has to be the staff. Everyone I've encountered is so sweet. Huge shoutout to Kyle (one of the managers) who goes above and beyond to make members feel welcome, Jared (membership advisor) who is always quick to respond to questions and help out whenever possible, and Ian who was my trainer. Even now when I come work out he always makes an effort to check in on me. Other trainers I've spoken to are always eager to help and say hi. Seriously the best Equinox team here and it makes the workout experience so enjoyable. Highly recommend this club to anyone in the area. read more

Equinox is a great gym with awesome classes and instructors. They offer many different types of classes from yoga/barre/Pilates to strength and cardio. There's a pool & indie/outdoor yoga studio & they both have great views. Equinox is clean, the equipment is nice, and all of the amenities are available in the locker rooms. Bonus, they have cold eucalyptus towels for after your workout and eucalyptus steam rooms. The staff is overall very friendly and accommodations, and the manager, Marco, is great. I think the negative reviews were probably from people who reviewed in the first few weeks after opening. It was a mad house and really challenging to get classes. They've ironed that out, and it's much more accessible now. The free weights and machines are pretty much always available, and there's a great stretching/rolling area. It would be nice if there were more restrooms. There is only one downstairs in the main gym (that I have seen) and the rest are wayyyy upstairs in the locker room. Update on the group classes/group trainers. Trainers are a vibe!! I haven't met a trainer I wasn't a fan of yet & I've done a variety of classes! I appreciate their enthusiasm, their playlists lol, & that they walk around to check forms. They also ask if there's any prior injuries & give you alternate forms based on your strength levels. This review is solely for personal training - I can get into my elevated taste in bougie gyms in another review... I have been a member of Equniox pre-pandemic and beyond - but took a huge break and rejoined in December of 2022, actively started going in February. One of the perks of when you sign up -- you are offered a complimentary Personal Training session and the PT manager will intro you to a PT for an assessment. Unfortunately, the orignial trainer I was paired with went on personal leave, was looking forward to training with her... sorry Mark haha BUT I did end up doing an assessment with Mark Perry - and now have completed about 5 weeks of personal training. Working with Mark has been a great experience - also this has been the longest I have worked with a trainer (and homegirl has worked with A LOT of trainers). As someone who is very involved in chaotic group fitness environments (Barry's, SoulCycle etc) my form is horrrribllee and is probably why I had so many injuries. Mark has taken the time to do lots of form checks, tailored a program to meet my fitness goals, as well as left me with knowledge on how to confidently weight train on my own, and a BONUS he's taken the time to answer my random questions about lifting that I see on TikTok (hahaha). Thanks, Mark! 110% recommend training with Mark. Each session has been super enjoyable. I leave feeling strong and have been feeling, and seeing great results. Also, any trainer that can last 5+ sessions with my chaotic, slightly whiny, self def deserves a raise haha TLDR: If you're looking for a PT, recommend Mark - not pushy with signing up, will tailor a great program for you, super knowledgeable about everything (except counting, but no one in the fitness industry can), cares about his clients and will hold you accountable (but not in like a scary way) so you can achieve your fitness goals! read more

Canceled subscription, but was never refunded April paid for but not used. Now this month they've deducted from my bank acct. May's dues and I haven't been a member in over a month. !Manager spoke with me, gave me his card and said he would be back in touch with me by the end of the day which never happened and now it's going on a month and here I have another charge. I'm so angry. I'm not made of money so this was earmarked for bills. This is the worst I've ever been treated by business. Too bad I can't leave a zero review. read more

As a recent college grad who moved back home, I was struggling to find a gym that checked all my boxes. My mom and I joined Equinox this past May, and we are never looking back. We used to workout at The Studio in Danville years ago before it closed in 2019. A lot of familiar faces teach and workout at this location, which has made it feel more like home. I love the variety of class options, free weight floor, and the locker room. The space is always so clean, and the staff are welcoming. In addition, I started working with the best personal trainer named Anne who has gotten me in the best shape of my life. I highly recommend this gym as well as their personal trainers (especially Anne) to anyone! read more

I'm a new member here with all access membership. Always had a gym membership all my life. I enjoy the group classes and easy to book my spot via mobile app. The gym equipments are new and clean. The weighs are always racked and sorted. Even during peak hours, it doesn't seem crowded. read more
